Trope Pantheons Discussion

Go To

Welcome to the Trope Pantheons thread! Please read the rules:

    Rules
Rules. The following are not suggestions or tips, but things that have to be followed:
  • When writing a profile, take note of the following:
    • The very first thing any contributor should do before working on an idea or a profile is to propose and nominate the idea on the Trope Pantheons discussion thread. In the forums, you must discuss with other users on adding ideas and seek their approval with sound reasoning, a paragraph of reasoning to justify taking a trope should be sufficient. This is done to see if your proposal is the best representative and so, in case your profile is turned down, you do not waste time writing something that others might not find suitable. You can also get some assistance in the forum thread by either asking for help and those interested asking if they can help. Attempting to work on ideas without a nomination and at least one net thumbs-up will not be accepted regardless of how much you have written already. Submissions that are added without discussion are likely to be deleted and those who violate those rules by adding Pantheon content without discussion will get reported to the mods.
    • If you feel the need to remove a character for some reason (poor quality, outdated titles, etcetera) and replace him/her with another or outright rework, please see what the other tropers think about this in the discussion thread before doing anything hasty. For reworks in particular, nominate the idea as you would with new characters or profiles. Use good reasoning to see if your idea can easily replace the character present without drawing out your statement or giving too ambiguous claims most do not understand.
      • In the same vein, if you adopt a profile from another troper, it is recommended that you make an announcement that you have done so on the discussion thread. More often than not, a trope that was reserved for something was given away to someone else. Check the Related tab on the top of a page to see if a trope or character has been reserved by a user, either in the Pantheon or the Sandbox sections.
    • If, for whatever reason, you are writing about a God who just happens to be a person in real life, just try to be very careful about what you decide to say. Do not try to make the editing seem too meta (self-referential) and use the creativity to create hypothetical scenarios towards fictional characters. Some real-life individuals, including content creators (fictional content created by them is still fair-game, but do not bring up the creators themselves in such cases), may be considered disqualified for profiles due to controversies that would make them concern the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment. To determine where a current creator would be disqualified:
      • Wait for at least a month after the latest significant update for a creator's controversy before any decision can be made. If a confirmation from the questioned creator (or associates) themselves occurs, then wait for a week.
      • Immediate disqualification for either a guilty sentence in a significant court case against the creator, or evidence of consistently repeated, deliberate, and/or intentionally provocative hate speech and advocacy of dehumanizing perspectives, with lesser examples warranting caution instead.
      • For creators with a clear persona of their character disclosed before any scandal, the persona can have a profile with no mentioning of their real-life information. Ambiguous existence of a persona would have to be discussed further hand for anything more decisive.
    • For obvious reasons, gods cannot be followers, high priests, or heralds. The 'gods' have ascended meaning there is no need for said character to be a follower of another if they have ascended.
    • No hype profiles, please. 'Hype Profiles' are profiles that have been made out of ongoing events and have not been around for a long time. This creates 'hype' due to popularity and certain elements either through certain scenes, memes, dramatic acting or considered overly awesome. They are not bad tropes but building a portfolio solely for that is a bad idea, as they do not say a thing about representing the trope best (unless it's those trope concepts that they are trying to embody for a long time)
      • You can see one if the profile is only showing off how awesome they are or suddenly pushing how 'significant' they are thanks to the just very recent events rather than respecting the longstanding good representations of the trope. And usually having... minimum portfolio or flavor texts and being a bit too generalized or self-contained to events from within their home series instead of interacting with other Pantheon members.
  • When posting in the forum, take note of the following:
    • When you suggest a God, please explain why they fit the trope. Not everyone is going to understand just "X should be the God of Y because they exemplify the trope" off the bat, especially if they're unfamiliar with the work.
    • You must use the Trope Pantheons discussion thread in the forums if you wish to add a new deity, story, something else of importance to the Trope Pantheon canon, or reworking an existing deity (be it simply improving their existing profile or changing their title).
      • For new and reworked deities, 3 [tup] means the profile will have a one-week waiting period.
      • For new and reworked deities, 4 [tup] is a 3 day waiting period.
      • 5 [tup] is an automatic ascension for new and reworked deities.
      • Speaking of reworks, for anyone that wants to improve such profiles, they have to review the current trope the character(s) has and see if it still holds up or if there is a better rep for their trope.
    • For adding new Treasures to The Great Treasury or new Dominions to the Dominions Expansion, the following rules apply:
      • For new Treasures or Dominions, 3 [tup] is a 3 day waiting period.
      • 4 [tup] is an automatic addition to the Great Treasury or Dominions.
    • Do not repost a profile in the forums more than twice a day if noticeable changes have not been made in between. If a profile is posted a third time in a row without noticeable alterations, it will be downvoted. This is so spamming of no-effort profiles is less frequent and to prevent tropers from getting aggravated seeing the same profile over and over. The minimum acceptable change has to be one flavor text.
    • The Pantheon is not a mouthpiece for you to voice your opinions on certain characters. You may like certain characters more than others, but do not make the mistake of making profiles for characters you like to look like Character Shilling.
    • Every troper new to the Pantheon is barred from approving or downvoting profiles until they have ascended at least two profiles, this means avoiding the usage of "[tup]" or "[tdown]".
    • Do not include fan reception in any profiles. It has nothing to do with the character themselves and will create unnecessary conflict.
    • Write a detailed explanation on why the character is the best candidate for the deity of that trope. If people disagree with you, do not force it on the people.
    • Keep in mind that if you still want to try to find a trope for a particular character, you are only given three chances to find a particular trope for them. If a suggestion goes past three possible tropes, then it will come off as shoehorning a character into the Pantheon just for the sake of that character to be there.
      • On a related note, even if a character does have a free trope being suggested, there is still a limit of three attempts for suggesting that character for that trope. If no one responds to that certain proposal after being posted three times, then it will get to the point where the idea will be seen as being shoehorned into the Pantheon. In addition, the idea needs to be considered acceptable and approved because they are good, not for the sake of pitying others. After all, no one is responding to their idea.
    • You can also adopt a profile or idea to work on from another contributor by messaging a request to them (preferably through private messages). Even if you get their permission, you still have to announce your adoption to the forum. Note that if the idea wasn't nominated in the first place you still have to properly nominate it.
  • When posting Pantheon related stuff to the wiki, take note of the following:
    • Do not put a link to these Pantheon pages into the main wiki page. The moment you want to note in a trope example that the character is a God of this trope, do not do it. If you see leftovers of this practice, correct the situation by deleting the offending text. This goes for any non-Pantheon page. The only exception to this rule is if a page in the Pantheon could be confused for a page in Main, like Good Colors, Evil Colors and Pantheon.Good And Evil Colors.
    • Do not bring things that would incite fights; hot topics and 'urgent' news are not pertinent to the Pantheon's mission. For example, the political scene and some really bad politicians. We are not here to fight each other, so don't suggest things that go in that direction, this is a fictional Pantheon after all.
    • To add a Pantheon page for a certain work, 4 or more characters coming from the same series/franchise should be ascended before adding the page. For Creator specific pages, 4 deities coming from the same creator and 2 individual work pages coming from the same creator is the minimum to warrant a page.
    • Do not create a trope page for a story until the story is fully completed.
    Instructions and Tips
Here are some tips one should keep in mind when editing:
  • When writing a profile for a character, here are a few things to note:
    • Please refer to Text Formatting Rules when writing a profile, since understanding how to make and edit site pages in general is a necessity for working on profiles or other Pantheon content. Additionally, if you are not experienced with English, refer to this forum page, as proper English spelling and grammar is expected.
    • All deities should be sorted by their divine ranking. Put Overdeities on the top of the page and Quasideities on the bottom. Also, be sure to add them in alphabetical order by their first/given name (can be reversed if it is Eastern ordered). For a group, if there is no official name for them all list down all their names by order of relevance or (if too long to list) title them as Insert Name Here Main Characters or some other identifiable title along the same lines.
    • The maximum number of tropes that a god can have is two, but do not try to abuse that fact. If you need to use a second trope to specify a certain thing about their position, that can be excused either because said character represents their trope choice very well alongside the first trope. It is still generally encouraged to only have one trope.
    • A trope can only belong to one profile at a time. The only time two profiles can share a trope is if there are explicit variations listed in the trope page proper (e.g. Muscle Angst is held by both Biscuit Krueger and Chihiro Fujisaki as the former represents "Too Much Muscle" and the latter represents "Not Enough Muscle")
    • If the character you are about to add to a House already exists in another, make sure to mention that this person has spots in another House as well. Up to 2 places can be made for a deity at most.
    • For a character's theme song, try to avoid calling it "Theme of God X" or "Theme of (Show where God X originates from)". If possible, try to find out if the song has an actual name through research. Most importantly, it has to be part of their series' official soundtracks from the media. Do not list songs that are made by fans or outside sources. If they were not specifically used as music for that specific character, then they do not count. Furthermore, it has to be a general theme specifically made for that characters' appearances, not some generic music that plays for many other instances not related to the character in question.
    • For images, when adding an image for your chosen character, it is highly recommended to use a stylized image that embodies the character or renders that also highlight a character's behavior (such as cool poses). Most images should be from the main adaptations of the character unless the images from the other media are of a higher quality than the adaptation. Unless it is needed, do not use fanart for images. If you are, please attribute it to the original artist. Due to the website's dark mode, removing white backgrounds from an image is paramount. This website is suggested to do the background removal. If an image you have takes up too many bytes, it is suggestible to use this site to reduce the byte size. If the byte is still too big, run the compressed image through other sites (or even the same one) to compress even further. Use wikis to look for better images, as even wikis for the series might not contain good official images.
    • Creativity is your friend. While it is not recommended to get too ditzy at your ideas, it is best that when writing a profile for a certain character, do you think of capable scenarios between X and Y. Tip: do not use shallow examples (X wields a sword and Y wields one too) and try to think of relationships that make sense (i.e those characters that are shout-outs for another).
  • Pantheon Content:
    • Some series or genres will eventually have greater representation in the Pantheon than others. This is unavoidable, but a little diversity helps to make you not look like a shill. Try to ensure that if you add a deity from a popular series, make sure that it is because they are a good representative for the trope in question, and not just because they are connected to another deity in their respective canon.
      • As far as deities from actual mythologies, there is generally an expectation to build the profiles off interactions from fictional portrays rather than basing it entirely from the actual myth. Therefore, a mythological deity should be more of a Composite Character whose main identity is from the actual myth.
    • Occasionally there will be Gods that carry a title without a trope. This is not forbidden, but it is well-advised not to abuse them. The only house where trope-less profiles are wholly allowed is the House of Food. Mainly due to most food items lacking tropes, and adding tropes about said foodstuffs is slightly unnecessary. However, the character being ascended for their choice of food, or food-related thing must be a decently good representative of said item. (i.e their Trademark Favorite Food, or something that they are closely associated with In-Universe, or both).
    • For Dominions and Treasures profiles, always consider what made those places/objects popular in the first place. Were they plot-important, identifiable imagery or have a unique aspect of it? Do not just bring regular objects under the basis of following a certain canon.
    • Do not write in self-promotion or blatant advertising. Minor references to something are fine but writing that clearly intends to advertise something will not be given toleration.
  • For Profile Standards:
    • Flavor text is used to describe certain things about a character, place, or object. To avoid short ones, it is recommended to write flavor text with 4-7 sentences that can fill around 2 lines each. Be warned that adding too many sentences does not equal good flavor text as it is not an essay of sorts (unless words are substantial and do add to the overall line).
    • Character Profiles of a certain person should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 7 (at the minimum) tropes describing their character.
      • Flavor text count for a deity profile should have by minimum, 10 (depending on if the character in question has enough relationships/characterization) to 15 with a maximum of 20-25 for an individual profile.
      • On the other hand, group profiles (profiles of a group that has 4 or more members) have their maximum flavor text count to 15 minimum, giving individual lines for the other members of the group (unless the members are not as characterized) up to 30 at max.
    • Dominion profiles of a certain place should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 5 (at the minimum) tropes describing the context of the place.
      • Flavor text count should range at least 10 to 15.
    • Treasure profiles (inanimate objects without a trope) should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 6 (at the minimum) tropes that describes the object itself.
      • Flavor text count should be at least 7 flavor text up to 12 to constitute a treasure profile.
    Divine Ranking System
  • Overdeity: Omnipotent-level Reality Warper deities capable of manipulating the entire universe (or at least the world) at will. Within their own universe they are believed to be omnipotent, or at least impossible-to-completely-destroy embodiments or concepts.
  • Greater Gods: High-level Reality Warper deities that are extremely powerful (capable of destroying or changing anywhere from a large city to a planet at will) and very strong non-reality warpers capable of doing the same thing.
  • Intermediate Gods: Deities at this level are capable of strong but specialized powers such as hydrokinesis, pyrokinesis, etc. without major drawbacks and low-level Reality Warper beings capable of affecting their immediate area at will.
  • Lesser Gods: Capable of highly specific or little power on their own, or suffer from Power at a Price. However, they may be able to ruthlessly exploit their power or combine it with just being badass enough to make up for it.
  • Demigods: Badass Normal citizens of the pantheon, making up for their lower status with strength, strategy, and/or planning.
  • Quasideities: Any otherwise normal human, human equivalent, or below without any special powers or training will fall here.
    Templates
Template for adding a new deity: God X, God/Goddess/Deity of (Insert Trope Here) (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)
  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Rank: This can range from Quasideity, Demigod, Lesser God, Intermediate God, Greater God, to Overdeity, based on the representation of power mentioned above.
  • Symbol: An image or icon used to represent the deity.
  • Theme Song: Official song (in other words, no fan music, regardless of quality) that usually is used in affiliation with the character. If the deity is a musician this will most likely be their Signature Song. If possible, give a link for reference, preferably on either a website like Soundcloud or YouTube.
  • Alignment: Good, evil, neutral, etc. Forget about The Great Character Alignment Debate here; the Pantheon is one of the few places where you can assign Dungeons & Dragons alignments to characters that don't have an alignment system. After all, the Pantheon is based on D&D and is made for fun.
  • For Pokémon deities only:
    • Gender: Defines the gender of the Pokémon; if genderless, it instead defines what gender they identify as.
    • Ability: Provides the Pokémon's ability. If they can Mega Evolve, the new ability is listed as well.
    • Moves: Defines the four moves used by a Pokémon. A Z-Move may also be listed.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the character.
  • Domains: Things that the character has influence over.
  • Herald: Non-ascended loyal character that is from the same series as the ascended character.
  • High Priest: Non-ascended like heralds, but not from the same series, and can serve as a worthy replacement in case the deity would be unavailable, incapacitated, dead, or otherwise incapable of carrying out their duties. They can be served as part-time workers in case the originals are busy with some jobs. Co-Godhood is accepted depending on the approval of the originals, usually if the co-deity is from the same series.
  • Followers: Non-ascended characters that are not part of the Pantheon, but would probably worship this character by the fact that they share the ascended character's trope.
  • Relationships between ascended characters go here with your chosen character, it goes something like this:
    • Allies: Members of the Pantheon that are allies, those that share the same values as them and would theoretically be friends with them.

    • Rivals: Members of the Pantheon that are rivals, people who may look at your character with suspicion or a challenge.
    • Enemies: Members of the Pantheon that are foes, those who would see your chosen character as a threat, either from their perspective or yours.
    • Additional Character Relationships: Members of the Pantheon that do not fit in various relationships (examples include Enemy Mine, Vitriolic Best Buds, Teeth-Clenched Teamwork, Headbutting Heroes, Friendly Enemy, Friendly Rival, Just Friends, etc.), allies, rivals, or enemies.
    • Partner: Defines a partnership with an ascended deity and Mon-type. (if any)
    • Feared by/Fears: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon notably fear or are feared by.
    • Respected by/Respects: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon respect or are respected by.
    • Opposed by/Opposes: Not necessarily the same as "Enemies", but this is used for any deity whom the members of the Pantheon directly oppose or are opposed by (basically the opposite of "Respects", "On Good Terms With", and/or "Commonality Connection") in terms of certain viewpoints, regardless of alignment.
    • Pitied by/Pities: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon feel pity for or are found pitiable by.
    • Conflicting Opinion: Sometimes, the Deities argue over specific themes and philosophies.
      • OPTIONAL NOTE FOR CHARACTER RELATIONSHIPS: Should the list for Character relationships (IE. Allies, Enemies, etc.) become too big, categorize a certain number of characters to a specific group putting them on a sublist (One example: Luigi is from the same world as his brother Mario, hence Luigi should be fall under the Super Mario Bros sublist.)
  • Add the Intro. The intro is made up of two trivia, the Ascension Text (or just the Ascension) and The Bio. Both are necessary, but which order you use for them may vary depending on the profile in question. It may be better for one profile to have The Bio first and the Ascension second or vice-versa, although for the most part, the order is irrelevant:
    • The Ascension Text: This is the story of how the character got into the Pantheon and/or was ascended. There are many ways for this to happen. They may be tricked into it or have simply wandered into the Pantheon, they may have had an already ascended character bring them in, they may already be in the Pantheon (via being another deity's Herald or sharing a trope) and got "promoted", or some combination of the above. Anything is possible in the Pantheon, so use your imagination, but try to incorporate their trope into the story, if possible.
    • The Bio: A brief synopsis of the character's backstory. No need for the character's entire life/production history, but just give enough that those who don't know the character can get an idea of how the character works.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Deities/Characters is 10-15 (15-20 for group profiles) at minimum to 20-25 (30 for group profiles) at maximum.
Template for Dominions profiles: Place X, Place of (Insert Trope Here) (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)
  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Theme Song (Optional): Not important as compared to Deity and Dominion profiles but a notable mention if there is an accompanying song in use with the object.
  • Alignment: Refers to the dominion's role in their story, be it those used by villains or used by the Player Character.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the dominion.
  • Domains: Things that the place has links to.
  • Relationships (Optional): Unless the location has a connection with a specific deity, relationships are optional and may not be required. However, if there are deities linked to the same series as to where the dominion is linked to, note them using the relationships, this includes deities that theoretically have interest with said dominion, good or evil otherwise.
  • Add the Intro. Here the introduction of the Dominion is added with some tidbits regarding the origins of its' creation and usage in the story. You can also add what made it popular/iconic/important here.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Dominions is 10 at minimum to 15 at maximum.
Template for Treasure profiles: The name of the item in here (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)
  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Appearance: A shortened description of the item's looks with some notable features also mentioned.
  • Class: Refer to the Treasure Classification System in the Great Treasury.
  • Alignment: Refers to the objects' role in their story, be it those used by villains or used by the Player Character.
  • Theme Song (Optional): Not important as compared to Deity and Dominion profiles but a notable mention if there is an accompanying song in use with the object.
  • Museum Check: A note that says whether the item is viewable by the public.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the item.
  • Domains: Things that the item has links to.
  • Relationships (Optional): Unless the item has a connection with a specific deity, relationships are optional and may not be required. However, if there are deities linked to the same series as to where the item is linked to (especially the original owner of the item), note them using the relationships, this includes deities that theoretically have interest with said object, good or evil otherwise.
  • Add the Intro. Here the introduction of the Treasure is added with some tidbits regarding the origins of its' creation and usage in the story. You can also add what made it popular/iconic/important here.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Treasures is 7 at minimum to 12 at maximum.

OK. So a long time ago I had tried to work on Adam and Eve for Original Man as I had success with Cain and Abel, and I assumed like them it could work as a Composite Character of their various appearances in different media. However there were disagreements and I think it was said they needed to be the Shuumatsu no Walküre: Record of Ragnarok versions specifically. I don't think I can work with that. Is it alright if I discard my idea and let people take Original Man for their own? To stop clogging up my sandboxes

[up] I'll volunteer to take it, mostly because I have Mary, Joseph and Saint Peter in my idea box already (but not approved yet).

Also, whoever mentioned that the ascended incarnation that should only be from Shuumatsu no Walküre: Record of Ragnarok is absurd imo as they are only part of the many depictions of the characters and I don't see a proper reason to be the main focus of the profile. But I'll try my best to include that version as well.

[up][up] It was an agreement among us, various contributors in this chat that only the Shuumatsu no Walküre: Record of Ragnarok be used. Remember that the subject of origin is literally sacred to others. You may consider it absurd, and don't see a proper reason for it to be the main focus of the profile, but that is the only version that was agreed upon. So sorry to say, and even more so if this comes off as rude, it's a take it or leave it situation.

Also please note that if you want to rework the profile, you'll have to make a proposal of it as well.

[down] I, and everyone else here, are very well aware that they are of Public Domain. But again, that was what was decided on.

[up] I'll leave it for now. I took it under the impression that making Adam and Eve a composite character profile would be negotiable. The fact that that decision is apparently non-negotiable just made me lose interest in starting any work on it at for the time being. While I also understand that they are sacred figures to others, I also want to point out that they are also public domain characters as well like most people from The Bible.

For now, I'm keeping the profile for save keeping but I'm not gonna work on it unless someone more familiar with Record of Ragnarok wants to take it or I eventually watch/read the source material myself (since I admit of not having read the manga as of this writing).

Also, I'm aware I need to propose it first before I start working on it.

Death Phantom: There’s actuallt quite a few planet killers around the pantheon, or people who have access to such. Potential Fears list.

Most Z Fighters.

Any Overlord class entity from Disgaea (Laharl, Etna, Flonne, Mao, Valvatorez, Rozalin, Killia, Usalia, etc) except Adell who traded mass destruction for truly horrific precision damage capability. Of those, Killia is the biggest threat because his ultimate move can render evil incorporeal beings Deader than Dead. Usalia would hate him the most for being an evil undead.

The Imperium of Man (Emperor, etc) has access to Exterminatus.

Shadow the Hedgehog is the heir to The ARK and current user of the Eclipse Cannon (which becomes a full fledged Death Star with enough Chaos Emeralds). Worse, Shadow is practically immune to manipulation thanks to his experience with Black Doom and is pragmatic/ruthless enough to enact genocide against wholly evil races. Like when he used the Eclipse Cannon to genocide Black Doom’s entire race.

Add Gabriel Belmont to Phantom’s enemies list.

Vampire Killer alone makes him someone Phantom does NOT want to piss off.

To elaborate, Vampire Killer is a cross whip that has a secondary stake function. That stake destroys the soul of anyone stabbed by it. Even those who are incorporeal or using Demonic Possession….and Gabriel’s supernatural reflexes can catch his intended target leaving a possessed host and stab them instead of the possessed victim. As Gabriel’s arch enemy found out the hard way.

Yet another Deader than Dead user.

Additionally, the Ur-Quan Kzer-Za would be strong enemies with Death Phantom due to their extreme trauma and hatred towards mind control, and Death Phantom desiring the decimation of all life just like the Ur-Quan Kohr-Ah. While they're very uncooperative and uncompromising overall, Death Phantom would be an exception that would make them even reluctantly cooperate with usual enemies to eliminate the threat he poses.

  • Blackagar Boltagon is the ruler of the Inhumans, a race of isolated superhumans separated from human society. Exposed to the Terrigen Mists as an embryo, King Blackagar Boltagon was born with the ability to harness electrons that he could manipulate. The speech aspect of his brain is used to expel the energy generated inside of himself, so what ends up happening is a lot of Stuff Blowing Up if Black Bolt has a single noise produced by his vocal cords. Even two words are enough to completely atomize a person and if going on for long enough, can rupture reality itself. How Black Bolt gets around this exceedingly destructive power is with the tuning fork on his head, allowing him to channel his particles through physical enhancements, blasts, and even flight. To not risk everyone around himself, Black Bolt has learned the art of silence and only speaks when it is for the greater good. He cannot even Spam Attack his own voice as his power damages his vocal cords. With their ruler's power, it comes as no wonder that fighting against the Inhumans is seen as a death wish by many.
  • Black Bolt has one of the most strained public images in the broader Marvel Universe due to the nature of the Inhumans themselves. They are a secluded caste society that wants to close themselves from the greater universe around themselves, which some would argue for a good reason considering their power-granting technologies that creates their meta-humans use are dangerous in any hands. Being their current ruler, Black Bolt's first duty is to his people and he would do anything to protect them, going as far as to fight other hero teams. Black Bolt and his Royal Family have tossed hands with so many other heroes, he stopped counting. That said, he will stand with them when it comes to something that blatantly risks the entire universe. This is especially true if Inhumans would inevitably be caught in the crossfire, whether they are from Earth or not. Black Bolt came to blows with apocalyptic beings like Thanos and Galactus, which frankly did not leave him in the best condition afterward (he got better though). That is not to say that Inhuman society is just simply existing as everything happens around them. Black Bolt has to deal with his brother always trying to usurp the throne constantly, sometimes succeeding but it usually returns to his elder brother's hands. Inhuman society has reached a melting point several times, enough to force Black Bolt to reform its caste nature. There is also the considerable amount of invasions the Inhumans receive, such as that time when the Kree Empire and the Inhumans were deeply locked into war. People usually question this king as so morally gray, but considering what he has seen, it is warranted.
  • Family is one of Black Bolt's more blatant weaknesses despite his seemingly impenetrable exterior. His family is at the same level as his duties, enough for him to not consider killing Maximus despite the constant treason. At the same time though, it could be a strength as those times like when Magneto kidnapped his son or when his brother kidnapped his son, or when Kang the Conqueror kidnapped his son. Only when thinking about it, Black Bolt realized how frequently his children get kidnapped. His wife (who also so happens to be a distant cousin), Medusalith Amaquelin-Boltagon, is someone he is eternally devoted towards. Black Bolt is actually married to more than one spouse though those political marriages are nothing compared to what he calls his true wife. There are also his other cousins who are close with Black Bolt in both personal and government. Overall, messing with his family is a sure way to have Black Bolt come after you harder than a speeding missile.
  • The Fantastic Four is probably the closest ally of the Inhumans on Earth, enough for Black Bolt to have his wife and sister-in-law have been members once. Their first interactions (where they first interacted with the superheroes of Earth) with the Fantastic Four were not the greatest, though the Fantastic Four warmed up to the Inhuman Royal Family eventually. Black Bolt and Reed Richards have been allies as Illuminati members, fighting off against those pesky incursions that threatened The Multiverse itself. The Inhuman King went to defeat the final members of the Interdimensional Council of Reeds with the help of the Universal Inhumans (which he got extra wives out of). However, what Black Bolt does not appreciate is that Johnny Storm had an affair with his wife at one point which strained their marriage. Black Bolt eventually got back at Johnny Storm for this is perhaps the most fitting way possible.
Johnny Storm: OH GOD, BLACKAGAR MAKE IT STOP! YOU KNOW I CAN'T SPIT FIRE.
  • The Inhumans get compared with the mutants a lot, even though they are far different when one puts it to scrutiny. Mutants are people whose genetics gave them unique powers that alter their bodies, while Inhumans are a genetically modified race who deliberately gain powers through Terrigenesis, the exposure to the Terrigen Mists. Black Bolt has worked with Professor Charles Xavier beforehand as Illuminati members and Inhumans never were in conflict with the X-Men until a certain event caused an all-out war between the Inhumans and mutants. After the Terrigen Cloud was unleashed by Black Bolt after Secret Wars (2015), it turns out the Terrigen Mists are fatal to mutants and along with the fatalities Black Bolt brought was Scott Summers (Cyclops) and a grieving Emma Frost wanted vengeance against the Inhumans for his death. Even though she could have just informed the Inhumans of this matter and they could have worked together to prevent more deaths, Emma Frost created a projection of Cyclops to gather a mutant army against the Inhumans with Magneto, leading to an entire war with them that ended with the Inhumans getting some deservedly bad impressions from Earth and the Terrigen Clouds being annihilated. The Inhumans acted like dicks at this time, so this aftermath was not unwarranted. Emma Frost had her plot exposed and the Inhumans and X-Men united to defeat her but she escaped as most villains do. Black Bolt himself is justifying not being liked much by the X-Men for this reason. Dazzler was an ally beforehand, though any goodwill was torn when she was personally employed by Emma Frost to subdue Black Bolt. Cyclops, even though he was not the one who instigated a war against the Inhumans had very few kind things to say to Black Bolt due to perceived selfish actions.
    • What selfish actions that Black Bolt has done was use the Terrigen Bomb to create Inhumans across Earth. The Terrigen Bomb was created to ensure peace by spreading the Terrigen Mists across the universe to ensure peace by making everyone the same species. Because surely discrimination would just end because everybody has superpowers. Black Bolt used the Terrigen Bomb as an explosive against Shi'ar Imperial Fleet, without the Terrigen Mists spreading around. He had another Terrigen Bomb prepared for Thanos who was searching for his lost son, Thane, and activated it, which spread across Earth. This resulted in heroes like Kamala Khan and Thane emerging, though many onlookers who say Black Bolt doing this caused a lot of problems he never considered, including the Terrigen Clouds wiping out mutants. [[Reality Subtext People can go as far as to say that it was as if the Inhumans were trying to supplant the mutants so hard, that it only ended up making everyone hate the Inhumans. The Inhumans may be incredibly racist to every other species but after spending time on Earth, Black Bolt naturally does not want his people to be enemies of any Earth-dwelling species.
  • Hulk and Black Bolt really hate each other as the Hulk tried to take his rage out on Black Bolt for the Illuminati exiling him. He fought Black Bolt, savagely beat him then subsequently enslaved him to be a gladiator. Then it turned out the "Black Bolt" that the Hulk defeated was a Skrull imposter meant to infiltrate the Illuminati while the real Black Bolt was kidnapped by the Skrulls. Black Bolt took care of the Skrulls with a vengeance afterward, though is absolutely terrified if it was him that got beaten by the Hulk instead.
  • He actually sees Wanda Maximoff as an ally, going as far as to aid her (and Doctor Doom apparently)) with notable other heroes Peter Parker, Eric Brook, Tony Stark, and Janet Van Dyne to form the Darkhold Defenders to fight against the Elder God Chthon. However, the Darkhold that served as their portal to the Outer Realms corrupted the heroes meant to fight against Chthon, resulting in the evil team of the Darkhold Defiled being created. As all big shakes in the status quo go, the heroes eventually came back to their normal senses, albeit with traumatic memories that Black Bolt specifically asked Wanda to give. He does not hate Wanda Maximoff but he does hate the Scarlet Witch since he believes that Chthon is working his evil ways through the corrupting Darkhold. He knows the results of a conflict between him and the Scarlet Witch would be mind-blowing though rightfully believes that the Darkhold must be stopped at all costs.
  • A person who can completely negate Black Bolt's powers is Donquixote Rocinante whose Devil Fruit powers of making a complete area of silence around himself. Due to Black Bolt's powers being transferred from sound, it is logical to assume that if Rocinante has his Devil Fruit activated, then that would instantly stop whatever sounds Black Bolt can hurl at him. The first time they met, Rocinante went to pick up his brother who was stopped by Black Bolt after Doflamingo tried to take over Attilan to instantly himself as the new king. His power was useless in that situation, but Black Bolt went to Rocinante's doorstep basically begging to see if these silencing powers work on him. It seamlessly does work, both in regards to Black Bolt doing his best to shout on the inside and shouting at him from the outside. Obviously, Black Bolt still cannot talk in this space, though found it refreshing to try using his lungs. If there is a situation where Rocinante had to make an immediate area around himself and Black Bolt needed to shout, the king at least knows who to call.
  • Clark Kent related to Black Bolt to some degree. Not with being raised as royalty aspect, but needing to restrain his powers to protect those around him. Plus, Black Bolt knows his secret by pure accident. The king may be mute, but he is not blind. Clark Kent was doing a cover story on Inhuman society until Apocalypse showed up on a whim. Black Bolt was going to fight the ancient mutant but Superman showed up to completely decimate Apocalypse in front of everyone. Black Bolt concluded Clark Kent was Superman because Superman flew from the direction of his home and the guy never bothered to change his hairdo. It only took Black Bolt to gently take the glasses off of Clark to essentially confirm what he knows. It also took one finger to the mouth to also tell Clark that his secret was safe with himself. Clark Kent as grateful as he was, wanted to pound his head in for allowing his secret identity to be so spelled out in that situation.
  • Black Bolt went to get a therapy session from Black Canary when his own brother told him that this family still had some trauma that needed to be arranged. Yes, he knows the irony given that it came from his brother. Regardless, he did have a point and if there is anyone who could relate to his struggles, it is another person who has the power to shout at people. Black Canary felt sorry that she had to break it to him and that she had WAY more control of her voice than the Midnight King had. Luckily for the therapist, Black Bolt was surprisingly able to open up to her with writing and sign language. Canary even taught herself the sign language that Black Bolt communicates with just to have a better connection with her client. Some of the stuff that Black Bolt spells out to her is fascinating.
  • Cain despises Black Bolt for being similar to his brother. A sibling who has found much more success while leaving the younger sibling in the metaphorical dust. Cain went as far as to try to form an entire group centered around siblings who were screwed over and is trying his best to ascend Maximus to do this. At the same time, Cain is hoping some unforeseen incident arrives that does not allow Maximus in the Pantheon as he does not want to deal with Black Bolt, but he is too deep now to get out of his own promises.
  • Eneru tried to conquer Attilan with the hopes to claim it for himself as like Skypeia, he wants to lord over the people of a floating island as God with the expectation that everyone would follow him. He did not even call it a conquest and said that he was "uniting" all of those from the sky islands as they are all culturally the same. Then he would blow it up because everyone who lives on floating islands is the least natural thing he could find. Of course, Black Bolt came to defend his home and his particle powers actually caught up with Eneru's speed. This forced Eneru to retreat but pronounce that he was a success in his conquest. Black Bolt wondered why American rapper Eminem tried to take over his home.
  • Madara Uchiha went to Attilan to challenge the Midnight King specifically. Well, not actually fight Black Bolt but to see if he could resist the full brunt of his mighty voice. Madara was busy in the afternoon because he was behind on filing his taxes. After tearing through nearly the entirety of Attilan military including most of Black Bolt's own family, Madara went to confront the man himself who was so angered by what happened, that he shouted at Madara with a simple, "Get Out!." Unsurprisingly, Madara took the brunt of that sentence and ended up with a light scratch of himself, only asking for Black Bolt to not hold back. Black Bolt grabbed Madara, flew him to the highest point of space, and shouted at Madara with his highest voice, which still reached below the surface past Attilan and started tearing literal holes in reality. Madara somehow survived that plus with him falling down to the ground from space, his body utterly torn though he was completely happy at what transpired. He would jokingly say he got aroused after though his lower half did not confirm that to him.
  • The Dovahkiin and Black Bolt have a rivalry in terms of who is better at shouting. Being the Dragonborn, the Dovahkiin obviously has it better in terms of the variety of powers the Thu’um but Black Bolt does not need that variety. A single thing he says would outright destroy the Dovahkiin if caught off guard. It was then the Dovahkiin texted Black Bolt by throwing himself in front of Black Bolt’s vocal range directly, telling Black Bolt to say anything. The Black Bolt calling the Dovahkiin a moron sent the Dovahkiin flying far enough to span an entire country. The Dovahkiin was sure that the distance was akin to walking from Winterhold to Cyrodil’s gates. Good thing that Become Ethereal existed as a Shout to use.
  • Melkor tried to steal the Terrigen Mists for himself as he would have put it to great use for his own armies. Imagining dragons and Balrogs having easy access to superpowers would be something worth drinking a keg for, so in his great unholy wisdom, he tried to invade Attilan himself without any idea where the Terrigen Mists actually were. To his credit, Melkor certainly caught Attilans by surprise but his forces were eventually driven back by their superpowers. Melkor even went into the battle himself though when trying to squish their king out of contempt, he found himself being toppled over the moment that Black Bolt uttered a single word. He thought this would be as easy as stealing the Silmarils, to which Melkor soon realized that his trigger-happy plan was perhaps a really bad strategy. At least he knows how to cut his losses, unlike some people. Melkor could be seen scurrying off into the mountains carrying the remainder of his forces, while Black Bolt repeatedly shouted random lines at him.
Black Bolt: Get out of my city.
Melkor: STOP SHOUTING AT ME! WE ARE LITERALLY NOT ON YOUR STUPID ISLAND ANYMORE!
Black Bolt: I know. I just felt like running you down.
Melkor: YOU'RE STILL HURTING ME THE MORE YOU TALK!
  • Chin Chin assaulted Black Bolt on one unsuspecting day with the hopes to absorb the endlessly producing particles from him as an alternative source to his chromosomes. Filthy Frank went to fight Chin Chin but in the struggle, a confused Black Bolt was sent to an Alternate Universe of the Pantheon where things are run very differently. Most importantly, Black Bolt found himself easily apprehended and sent to face the TV Tropes Pantheon Illuminati. Lord President of Gallifrey, d³∑x₂ (played by Richard E. Grant). Reigning Empress of Shinobi, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki. Founder of the Neo Legion of Superheroes, Superman-Prime. Maintainer of the Matrix, the Oracle. Finally, the Bright Herald of Eru, Melkor. Black Bolt honestly felt like he should be in one of those chairs. Melkor replied that their Black Bolt WAS an Illuminati member in this universe, but fractured off to be part of a "Pantheonic Rebellion" if you will where the Pantheon leadership required all facets of the omniverse connected to be tied politically and economically to the Pantheon like vassal states. This Pantheon's iteration of Black Bolt is currently missing and being one of the faces of the Pantheonic Rebellion, they want to throw him into the jail called the Disgraces in order to break the Rebellion's morale. It was unanimously decided by the Rebellion that the best course of action for themselves was to have the Black Bolt standing before them in their Black Bolt's place as a prisoner that needed to be paraded around. They could have faked a Black Bolt arrest much earlier, though spies potentially being everywhere proved that plan could have blown in their faces quickly. Plus, it is not as if Black Bolt can just tell people of his true nature.
    • Of course, once they finished the details of their plans to him, Black Bolt verbally replied to them by saying, "Absolutely not, you bureaucratic fools." What was supposed to at least stuff them was negated by forcefields created by the Time Lords. Superman-Prime then dashed to Black Bolt and proceeded to beat him within an inch of his life. Before the final blow that would have knocked him unconscious, Filthy Frank came back to fix the mess that he brought on by transporting both of themselves back to their dimension... then back into the same dimension that they just escaped from. Filthy Frank explained to Black Bolt that he is actually one of the leaders of the Pantheonic Rebellion itself, not an alternate version but his actual self. The Black Bolt from this universe had tried to attain power outside of the Pantheon but was killed for it, which resulted in Frank baiting Chin Chin to attack Black Bolt so their subsequent battle can be used as a cover to transport him across universes. Considering that the Pantheonic Rebellion saw Black Bolt highly, it would be more than reasonable from Frank's perspective. For why Filthy Frank—a mongrel of a creature—is going this far to help stop an imperialist union that extends across the omniverse, Frank told his benevolent reasons why.
Filthy Frank: That motherfucking asshat of a Time Lord took the last Sonic the Hedgehog popsicle from that ice cream truck! Bitch, I waited in the blazing heat for five minutes just to get one and that cunt snatched it from under me! I'm going to fucking tear his life apart if I have to!
    • Black Bolt decided to join the Pantheonic Rebellion due to "being trapped" by Frank. Filthy Frank already spread the fake word around that their fake Black Bolt came back which gave a significant morale boost for the Inhumans taking part in the rebellion. He knows that he could not simply abandon those Inhumans despite being from another dimension. So he basically told his family (and not his asshole of a brother) to hold down the throne until he can in good conscious return. Like many certain rulers, Black Bolt underestimated how long this war would take and expressed dismay at how long it is taking him. He trusts his wife with the throne, though he cannot trust his brother to not keep his grimy hands off for an extended period.

Okay, I'm going to give this one more try. I am NOT trying to derail the thread again, but I have a few questions that have been bothering my mind for quite a while, and I felt like they weren't properly addressed:

1. Does crucial character development directly affects a character's placement as a "deity"? I mean for example, if there is a long-running supervillain or whatnot, who has done a canonical Heel-Face Turn, does that automatically disqualify them from being a particular evil trope? If not, why? I would genuinely like to know. The same applies to morally-ambiguous characters.

2. I get that the alignment chart is not meant to be taken fully seriously here...But when calling a particular character/"deity" something like "Lawful Evil Personified", I mean....We do at least have to explain in full detail on what makes them embody that alignment right...? I mean, I'm perfectly fine with a character having multiple alignment places I guess, but I believe that we should at least explain their alignment placements logically no?

3. Kind of similar to question one...But if a paragon of virtue has canonically committed a heinous act (Moral Event Horizon), does that affect their relationship with the trope?

That's all I would like to know. Also, just to be clear, I have read the rules in the thread but I'm not fully sure how to get a character placed here...I would appreciate it if someone could explain to me in a bit more detail. Thank you. [tup]

  1. Not necessarily, there are some known exceptions with reformed character. For example, Yuno Gasai, The Godress of Yandere, still has the title despite being now a canonically more stable girl ever since she merged with the memories of her crazy yandere alternative self that preceded her, she still holds the title due to her 2nd self, the main supporting character, being a yandere for the majority of the show's run and one of the most fitting and iconic examples of that. I think it is a case by case basis and you should always ask the thread of you are not sure about title-placement post character development.
  2. You can briefly explain it in the flavor text why their alignment is that way when you describe the character. I don't think it requires a full detailed explanation, just the basics or your text would go on for way too long.
  3. I think heroes turning evil does affect title if their title is related to their alignment. Say their title is Amnesiacs Are Innocent but it was later found out that are not an Amnesiac or they take advantage of this trope to appear innocent and do crime, then they most likely in need of a title change (with premission in this thread on why they should get a title change) If their title does not relate to their alignment (say something related to their hair color, clothes or something), they can still keep the title but they need an additional flavor text to explain their current Face–Heel Turn
  4. You can also check each alignment on the Character Alignment Index and see their actions or their profession fits an alignment. If you are still a bit stump on where to place a character, I usually just do research by searching on Google on what most fans think of their D&D alignments are if their alignment is not immediately clear.

[up][up]

1. The morality of someone is only as meaningful to their status as deity as morality is to whether they genuinely fit the trope as they are. Ghaleon for example is a former villain who has a canonical Heel–Face Turn in a sequel, but still fits his Stealth Mentor trope since he still "prepared" the heroes for what was to come later on, while posing as an enemy. If the trope is about an evil action, it doesn't matter what morality becomes of the character later on as long as the action they did is still a very good example of the trope after such. If the trope is about being some sort of evil and the character decisively stops being evil, then that would nullify their worthiness of the trope (since that trope relied on character being evil). Now for characters with multiple counterparts, adaptations, or continuities, then all of the counterparts that still fit the trope are applicable for deity, with the alternate versions of the characters not being able to be a deity by not fitting the trope. But sometimes, the situations of characters may be too complicated for a general set of guidelines, and it's fine to ask if they'd still fit.

2. Sometimes alignments are up for debate, with people having their own reasons for giving a deity a certain alignment. Some people do it because contributors think the character fits the alignment much better than about all the other characters in the alignment. No need to be worried about it.

3. As stated above, it only matters with the trope if the trope relies on the character not doing such a thing on their own (or other way around) at all, otherwise it's irrelevant.

As for "nominating" a character, it is admittedly not very simple as it seems, but assuming that no one has taken the trope (I check the Related pages for the Pantheon + Sandbox section), it is basically stating the character and the trope they can take, and a paragraph listing why they fit the trope. note

The main decisive factors for a character to be considered worthy for a trope are:

  • Fitting the trope - This is what your reasons for nominating a character should focus on, above all else. Any attribute of the character is only as relevant for nomination as it is for the trope itself. Helps if the trope is a big part of the character's story or defines the character very well.

  • Having a lot to talk about in comparison to other potential competitors - Fairly obvious one, it just means that some one-note character that appears in a single scene isn't really considerable for nomination.

  • Not being based on fan hype or controversy - Just don't bring up characters from an in-progress series or for reasons based on controversies and fan reactions, as rules state. (Also, try avoiding using a fan fic character for tropes that aren't about Fan Fiction, unless they literally fit the trope best, and even then people will hesitate)

What AREN'T decisive factors for nomination (not necessarily meaningless, but they don't guarantee approvals at all):

  • Character strength, power, or badassery: If Character A is some Overdeity that could eat galaxies for breakfast, but is some background character with only like a few scenes of focus, and did the trope a few times, and Character B is some Quasideity with no special abilities but they have a non-generic personality and engage with the trope a few times, we are certainly picking B. Exceptions are when having such power or intellect IS part of the trope, if the trope is about farting and destroying the universe as an example.

  • Character or series popularity: Even the character is from some obscure work, if they revolve around the trope or engage it in a more meaningful way, they have priority over someone of a more popular work. Obviously tropes about popularity are exceptions, but whether you think a character should be in the Pantheon isn't worth much on its own.

I have an idea which may or may not work.

The Bloody Battlers, Divine Warriors of Unexpectedly Serious Violence Shown to the Young

Or

The Bloody Battlers, Divine Representatives of Unexpected Serious Violence Shown to the Young

The reason that I'm considering these guys is because of the obvious: They're from Roblox and it is very well known for how childish it is, but Bloody Battle is surprisingly gory for a Roblox game.

The main problem I'm dealing with is the Theme Song. The game has no original OST, but the thing it's a part of, does have some very fitting of it. Roblox has numerous battle themes which could fit the Bloody Battlers, but it's not made by the dev of Bloody Battle himself along with the fact that the themes are general purpose themes, which can be used by all Roblox games containing battle.

So in a nutshell: Source work of profile I want to make has no original OST but source source work does have original OST meant for the kind of work the source work is but not specifically for the source work. Can they still be used as theme songs?

I'm interested if anyone has trope ideas from more obscure mythologies like Altaic Mythology or characters from any African folklore and religions. Just a thought

[up][up] I noticed that you have a lot people in the friends/enemies lists who don't have interactions in flavor text. I assume you'll add them later? I just wanted to clarify.

Just want to say some things so that we can proceed to the next page so I can post a profile draft.

Nominations!

  • Grit and Flame, Co-Deities of On-Ride/On-Foot Combat
    • Reasoning: Panzer Paladin is a retro platformer, where you play as the last Paladin Unit Grit, with the android Flame as his pilot. At certain points throughout the level, you're required to eject and move Flame on her own and either clear the way, or find a station where Grit can be teleported over. While not as strong, Flame is capable enough to navigate on her own or deal with bosses (either as a Self-Imposed Challenge or when Grit is too damaged to continue).
  • The Warlord of Aurora/The Ransei Region, Deity/Holy Seat of Demographic-Dissonant Crossovers
    • Reasoning: Pokémon Conquest is a crossover between 1) the lighthearted, all-ages Pokémon franchise and 2) the more serious Nobunaga's Ambition series, which is based on historic Japanese warfare and is aimed at teenagers. Also, unlike all other examples on the trope page, it's a blend rather than a traditional crossover where characters meet, since those cannot fit unless there's a prominent Original Generation character as the real star.
    • I hope it's the Warlord who gets the pick, but I can try the Region if need be.

[up] Okay, so the thing with the Warlords of Aurora is that almost all of them are Historical Domain Characters of Japan's Sengoku period characters. And not like new takes of them, they are basically transplanted from Samurai Warriors, with just some of the traits glossed over to take account the demographic. Hell, the game itself has been referenced in the Pantheon as if the said warlords are the historical figures. So the question is, is this the best way to represent them in the Pantheon?
