Trope Pantheons Discussion

Go To

Welcome to the Trope Pantheons thread! Please read the rules:

    Rules
Rules. The following are not suggestions or tips, but things that have to be followed:
  • When writing a profile, take note of the following:
    • The very first thing any contributor should do before working on an idea or a profile is to propose and nominate the idea on the Trope Pantheons discussion thread. In the forums, you must discuss with other users on adding ideas and seek their approval with sound reasoning, a paragraph of reasoning to justify taking a trope should be sufficient. This is done to see if your proposal is the best representative and so, in case your profile is turned down, you do not waste time writing something that others might not find suitable. You can also get some assistance in the forum thread by either asking for help and those interested asking if they can help. Attempting to work on ideas without a nomination and at least one net thumbs-up will not be accepted regardless of how much you have written already. Submissions that are added without discussion are likely to be deleted and those who violate those rules by adding Pantheon content without discussion will get reported to the mods.
    • If you feel the need to remove a character for some reason (poor quality, outdated titles, etcetera) and replace him/her with another or outright rework, please see what the other tropers think about this in the discussion thread before doing anything hasty. For reworks in particular, nominate the idea as you would with new characters or profiles. Use good reasoning to see if your idea can easily replace the character present without drawing out your statement or giving too ambiguous claims most do not understand.
      • In the same vein, if you adopt a profile from another troper, it is recommended that you make an announcement that you have done so on the discussion thread. More often than not, a trope that was reserved for something was given away to someone else. Check the Related tab on the top of a page to see if a trope or character has been reserved by a user, either in the Pantheon or the Sandbox sections.
    • If, for whatever reason, you are writing about a God who just happens to be a person in real life, just try to be very careful about what you decide to say. Do not try to make the editing seem too meta (self-referential) and use the creativity to create hypothetical scenarios towards fictional characters. Some real-life individuals, including content creators (fictional content created by them is still fair-game, but do not bring up the creators themselves in such cases), may be considered disqualified for profiles due to controversies that would make them concern the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment. To determine where a current creator would be disqualified:
      • Wait for at least a month after the latest significant update for a creator's controversy before any decision can be made. If a confirmation from the questioned creator (or associates) themselves occurs, then wait for a week.
      • Immediate disqualification for either a guilty sentence in a significant court case against the creator, or evidence of consistently repeated, deliberate, and/or intentionally provocative hate speech and advocacy of dehumanizing perspectives, with lesser examples warranting caution instead.
      • For creators with a clear persona of their character disclosed before any scandal, the persona can have a profile with no mentioning of their real-life information. Ambiguous existence of a persona would have to be discussed further hand for anything more decisive.
    • For obvious reasons, gods cannot be followers, high priests, or heralds. The 'gods' have ascended meaning there is no need for said character to be a follower of another if they have ascended.
    • No hype profiles, please. 'Hype Profiles' are profiles that have been made out of ongoing events and have not been around for a long time. This creates 'hype' due to popularity and certain elements either through certain scenes, memes, dramatic acting or considered overly awesome. They are not bad tropes but building a portfolio solely for that is a bad idea, as they do not say a thing about representing the trope best (unless it's those trope concepts that they are trying to embody for a long time)
      • You can see one if the profile is only showing off how awesome they are or suddenly pushing how 'significant' they are thanks to the just very recent events rather than respecting the longstanding good representations of the trope. And usually having... minimum portfolio or flavor texts and being a bit too generalized or self-contained to events from within their home series instead of interacting with other Pantheon members.
  • When posting in the forum, take note of the following:
    • When you suggest a God, please explain why they fit the trope. Not everyone is going to understand just "X should be the God of Y because they exemplify the trope" off the bat, especially if they're unfamiliar with the work.
    • You must use the Trope Pantheons discussion thread in the forums if you wish to add a new deity, story, something else of importance to the Trope Pantheon canon, or reworking an existing deity (be it simply improving their existing profile or changing their title).
      • For new and reworked deities, 3 [tup] means the profile will have a one-week waiting period.
      • For new and reworked deities, 4 [tup] is a 3 day waiting period.
      • 5 [tup] is an automatic ascension for new and reworked deities.
      • Speaking of reworks, for anyone that wants to improve such profiles, they have to review the current trope the character(s) has and see if it still holds up or if there is a better rep for their trope.
    • For adding new Treasures to The Great Treasury or new Dominions to the Dominions Expansion, the following rules apply:
      • For new Treasures or Dominions, 3 [tup] is a 3 day waiting period.
      • 4 [tup] is an automatic addition to the Great Treasury or Dominions.
    • Do not repost a profile in the forums more than twice a day if noticeable changes have not been made in between. If a profile is posted a third time in a row without noticeable alterations, it will be downvoted. This is so spamming of no-effort profiles is less frequent and to prevent tropers from getting aggravated seeing the same profile over and over. The minimum acceptable change has to be one flavor text.
    • The Pantheon is not a mouthpiece for you to voice your opinions on certain characters. You may like certain characters more than others, but do not make the mistake of making profiles for characters you like to look like Character Shilling.
    • Every troper new to the Pantheon is barred from approving or downvoting profiles until they have ascended at least two profiles, this means avoiding the usage of "[tup]" or "[tdown]".
    • Do not include fan reception in any profiles. It has nothing to do with the character themselves and will create unnecessary conflict.
    • Write a detailed explanation on why the character is the best candidate for the deity of that trope. If people disagree with you, do not force it on the people.
    • Keep in mind that if you still want to try to find a trope for a particular character, you are only given three chances to find a particular trope for them. If a suggestion goes past three possible tropes, then it will come off as shoehorning a character into the Pantheon just for the sake of that character to be there.
      • On a related note, even if a character does have a free trope being suggested, there is still a limit of three attempts for suggesting that character for that trope. If no one responds to that certain proposal after being posted three times, then it will get to the point where the idea will be seen as being shoehorned into the Pantheon. In addition, the idea needs to be considered acceptable and approved because they are good, not for the sake of pitying others. After all, no one is responding to their idea.
    • You can also adopt a profile or idea to work on from another contributor by messaging a request to them (preferably through private messages). Even if you get their permission, you still have to announce your adoption to the forum. Note that if the idea wasn't nominated in the first place you still have to properly nominate it.
  • When posting Pantheon related stuff to the wiki, take note of the following:
    • Do not put a link to these Pantheon pages into the main wiki page. The moment you want to note in a trope example that the character is a God of this trope, do not do it. If you see leftovers of this practice, correct the situation by deleting the offending text. This goes for any non-Pantheon page. The only exception to this rule is if a page in the Pantheon could be confused for a page in Main, like Good Colors, Evil Colors and Pantheon.Good And Evil Colors.
    • Do not bring things that would incite fights; hot topics and 'urgent' news are not pertinent to the Pantheon's mission. For example, the political scene and some really bad politicians. We are not here to fight each other, so don't suggest things that go in that direction, this is a fictional Pantheon after all.
    • To add a Pantheon page for a certain work, 4 or more characters coming from the same series/franchise should be ascended before adding the page. For Creator specific pages, 4 deities coming from the same creator and 2 individual work pages coming from the same creator is the minimum to warrant a page.
    • Do not create a trope page for a story until the story is fully completed.
    Instructions and Tips
Here are some tips one should keep in mind when editing:
  • When writing a profile for a character, here are a few things to note:
    • Please refer to Text Formatting Rules when writing a profile, since understanding how to make and edit site pages in general is a necessity for working on profiles or other Pantheon content. Additionally, if you are not experienced with English, refer to this forum page, as proper English spelling and grammar is expected.
    • All deities should be sorted by their divine ranking. Put Overdeities on the top of the page and Quasideities on the bottom. Also, be sure to add them in alphabetical order by their first/given name (can be reversed if it is Eastern ordered). For a group, if there is no official name for them all list down all their names by order of relevance or (if too long to list) title them as Insert Name Here Main Characters or some other identifiable title along the same lines.
    • The maximum number of tropes that a god can have is two, but do not try to abuse that fact. If you need to use a second trope to specify a certain thing about their position, that can be excused either because said character represents their trope choice very well alongside the first trope. It is still generally encouraged to only have one trope.
    • A trope can only belong to one profile at a time. The only time two profiles can share a trope is if there are explicit variations listed in the trope page proper (e.g. Muscle Angst is held by both Biscuit Krueger and Chihiro Fujisaki as the former represents "Too Much Muscle" and the latter represents "Not Enough Muscle")
    • If the character you are about to add to a House already exists in another, make sure to mention that this person has spots in another House as well. Up to 2 places can be made for a deity at most.
    • For a character's theme song, try to avoid calling it "Theme of God X" or "Theme of (Show where God X originates from)". If possible, try to find out if the song has an actual name through research. Most importantly, it has to be part of their series' official soundtracks from the media. Do not list songs that are made by fans or outside sources. If they were not specifically used as music for that specific character, then they do not count. Furthermore, it has to be a general theme specifically made for that characters' appearances, not some generic music that plays for many other instances not related to the character in question.
    • For images, when adding an image for your chosen character, it is highly recommended to use a stylized image that embodies the character or renders that also highlight a character's behavior (such as cool poses). Most images should be from the main adaptations of the character unless the images from the other media are of a higher quality than the adaptation. Unless it is needed, do not use fanart for images. If you are, please attribute it to the original artist. Due to the website's dark mode, removing white backgrounds from an image is paramount. This website is suggested to do the background removal. If an image you have takes up too many bytes, it is suggestible to use this site to reduce the byte size. If the byte is still too big, run the compressed image through other sites (or even the same one) to compress even further. Use wikis to look for better images, as even wikis for the series might not contain good official images.
    • Creativity is your friend. While it is not recommended to get too ditzy at your ideas, it is best that when writing a profile for a certain character, do you think of capable scenarios between X and Y. Tip: do not use shallow examples (X wields a sword and Y wields one too) and try to think of relationships that make sense (i.e those characters that are shout-outs for another).
  • Pantheon Content:
    • Some series or genres will eventually have greater representation in the Pantheon than others. This is unavoidable, but a little diversity helps to make you not look like a shill. Try to ensure that if you add a deity from a popular series, make sure that it is because they are a good representative for the trope in question, and not just because they are connected to another deity in their respective canon.
      • As far as deities from actual mythologies, there is generally an expectation to build the profiles off interactions from fictional portrays rather than basing it entirely from the actual myth. Therefore, a mythological deity should be more of a Composite Character whose main identity is from the actual myth.
    • Occasionally there will be Gods that carry a title without a trope. This is not forbidden, but it is well-advised not to abuse them. The only house where trope-less profiles are wholly allowed is the House of Food. Mainly due to most food items lacking tropes, and adding tropes about said foodstuffs is slightly unnecessary. However, the character being ascended for their choice of food, or food-related thing must be a decently good representative of said item. (i.e their Trademark Favorite Food, or something that they are closely associated with In-Universe, or both).
    • For Dominions and Treasures profiles, always consider what made those places/objects popular in the first place. Were they plot-important, identifiable imagery or have a unique aspect of it? Do not just bring regular objects under the basis of following a certain canon.
    • Do not write in self-promotion or blatant advertising. Minor references to something are fine but writing that clearly intends to advertise something will not be given toleration.
  • For Profile Standards:
    • Flavor text is used to describe certain things about a character, place, or object. To avoid short ones, it is recommended to write flavor text with 4-7 sentences that can fill around 2 lines each. Be warned that adding too many sentences does not equal good flavor text as it is not an essay of sorts (unless words are substantial and do add to the overall line).
    • Character Profiles of a certain person should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 7 (at the minimum) tropes describing their character.
      • Flavor text count for a deity profile should have by minimum, 10 (depending on if the character in question has enough relationships/characterization) to 15 with a maximum of 20-25 for an individual profile.
      • On the other hand, group profiles (profiles of a group that has 4 or more members) have their maximum flavor text count to 15 minimum, giving individual lines for the other members of the group (unless the members are not as characterized) up to 30 at max.
    • Dominion profiles of a certain place should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 5 (at the minimum) tropes describing the context of the place.
      • Flavor text count should range at least 10 to 15.
    • Treasure profiles (inanimate objects without a trope) should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 6 (at the minimum) tropes that describes the object itself.
      • Flavor text count should be at least 7 flavor text up to 12 to constitute a treasure profile.
    Divine Ranking System
  • Overdeity: Omnipotent-level Reality Warper deities capable of manipulating the entire universe (or at least the world) at will. Within their own universe they are believed to be omnipotent, or at least impossible-to-completely-destroy embodiments or concepts.
  • Greater Gods: High-level Reality Warper deities that are extremely powerful (capable of destroying or changing anywhere from a large city to a planet at will) and very strong non-reality warpers capable of doing the same thing.
  • Intermediate Gods: Deities at this level are capable of strong but specialized powers such as hydrokinesis, pyrokinesis, etc. without major drawbacks and low-level Reality Warper beings capable of affecting their immediate area at will.
  • Lesser Gods: Capable of highly specific or little power on their own, or suffer from Power at a Price. However, they may be able to ruthlessly exploit their power or combine it with just being badass enough to make up for it.
  • Demigods: Badass Normal citizens of the pantheon, making up for their lower status with strength, strategy, and/or planning.
  • Quasideities: Any otherwise normal human, human equivalent, or below without any special powers or training will fall here.
    Templates
Template for adding a new deity: God X, God/Goddess/Deity of (Insert Trope Here) (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)
  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Rank: This can range from Quasideity, Demigod, Lesser God, Intermediate God, Greater God, to Overdeity, based on the representation of power mentioned above.
  • Symbol: An image or icon used to represent the deity.
  • Theme Song: Official song (in other words, no fan music, regardless of quality) that usually is used in affiliation with the character. If the deity is a musician this will most likely be their Signature Song. If possible, give a link for reference, preferably on either a website like Soundcloud or YouTube.
  • Alignment: Good, evil, neutral, etc. Forget about The Great Character Alignment Debate here; the Pantheon is one of the few places where you can assign Dungeons & Dragons alignments to characters that don't have an alignment system. After all, the Pantheon is based on D&D and is made for fun.
  • For Pokémon deities only:
    • Gender: Defines the gender of the Pokémon; if genderless, it instead defines what gender they identify as.
    • Ability: Provides the Pokémon's ability. If they can Mega Evolve, the new ability is listed as well.
    • Moves: Defines the four moves used by a Pokémon. A Z-Move may also be listed.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the character.
  • Domains: Things that the character has influence over.
  • Herald: Non-ascended loyal character that is from the same series as the ascended character.
  • High Priest: Non-ascended like heralds, but not from the same series, and can serve as a worthy replacement in case the deity would be unavailable, incapacitated, dead, or otherwise incapable of carrying out their duties. They can be served as part-time workers in case the originals are busy with some jobs. Co-Godhood is accepted depending on the approval of the originals, usually if the co-deity is from the same series.
  • Followers: Non-ascended characters that are not part of the Pantheon, but would probably worship this character by the fact that they share the ascended character's trope.
  • Relationships between ascended characters go here with your chosen character, it goes something like this:
    • Allies: Members of the Pantheon that are allies, those that share the same values as them and would theoretically be friends with them.

    • Rivals: Members of the Pantheon that are rivals, people who may look at your character with suspicion or a challenge.
    • Enemies: Members of the Pantheon that are foes, those who would see your chosen character as a threat, either from their perspective or yours.
    • Additional Character Relationships: Members of the Pantheon that do not fit in various relationships (examples include Enemy Mine, Vitriolic Best Buds, Teeth-Clenched Teamwork, Headbutting Heroes, Friendly Enemy, Friendly Rival, Just Friends, etc.), allies, rivals, or enemies.
    • Partner: Defines a partnership with an ascended deity and Mon-type. (if any)
    • Feared by/Fears: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon notably fear or are feared by.
    • Respected by/Respects: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon respect or are respected by.
    • Opposed by/Opposes: Not necessarily the same as "Enemies", but this is used for any deity whom the members of the Pantheon directly oppose or are opposed by (basically the opposite of "Respects", "On Good Terms With", and/or "Commonality Connection") in terms of certain viewpoints, regardless of alignment.
    • Pitied by/Pities: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon feel pity for or are found pitiable by.
    • Conflicting Opinion: Sometimes, the Deities argue over specific themes and philosophies.
      • OPTIONAL NOTE FOR CHARACTER RELATIONSHIPS: Should the list for Character relationships (IE. Allies, Enemies, etc.) become too big, categorize a certain number of characters to a specific group putting them on a sublist (One example: Luigi is from the same world as his brother Mario, hence Luigi should be fall under the Super Mario Bros sublist.)
  • Add the Intro. The intro is made up of two trivia, the Ascension Text (or just the Ascension) and The Bio. Both are necessary, but which order you use for them may vary depending on the profile in question. It may be better for one profile to have The Bio first and the Ascension second or vice-versa, although for the most part, the order is irrelevant:
    • The Ascension Text: This is the story of how the character got into the Pantheon and/or was ascended. There are many ways for this to happen. They may be tricked into it or have simply wandered into the Pantheon, they may have had an already ascended character bring them in, they may already be in the Pantheon (via being another deity's Herald or sharing a trope) and got "promoted", or some combination of the above. Anything is possible in the Pantheon, so use your imagination, but try to incorporate their trope into the story, if possible.
    • The Bio: A brief synopsis of the character's backstory. No need for the character's entire life/production history, but just give enough that those who don't know the character can get an idea of how the character works.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Deities/Characters is 10-15 (15-20 for group profiles) at minimum to 20-25 (30 for group profiles) at maximum.
Template for Dominions profiles: Place X, Place of (Insert Trope Here) (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)
  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Theme Song (Optional): Not important as compared to Deity and Dominion profiles but a notable mention if there is an accompanying song in use with the object.
  • Alignment: Refers to the dominion's role in their story, be it those used by villains or used by the Player Character.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the dominion.
  • Domains: Things that the place has links to.
  • Relationships (Optional): Unless the location has a connection with a specific deity, relationships are optional and may not be required. However, if there are deities linked to the same series as to where the dominion is linked to, note them using the relationships, this includes deities that theoretically have interest with said dominion, good or evil otherwise.
  • Add the Intro. Here the introduction of the Dominion is added with some tidbits regarding the origins of its' creation and usage in the story. You can also add what made it popular/iconic/important here.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Dominions is 10 at minimum to 15 at maximum.
Template for Treasure profiles: The name of the item in here (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)
  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Appearance: A shortened description of the item's looks with some notable features also mentioned.
  • Class: Refer to the Treasure Classification System in the Great Treasury.
  • Alignment: Refers to the objects' role in their story, be it those used by villains or used by the Player Character.
  • Theme Song (Optional): Not important as compared to Deity and Dominion profiles but a notable mention if there is an accompanying song in use with the object.
  • Museum Check: A note that says whether the item is viewable by the public.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the item.
  • Domains: Things that the item has links to.
  • Relationships (Optional): Unless the item has a connection with a specific deity, relationships are optional and may not be required. However, if there are deities linked to the same series as to where the item is linked to (especially the original owner of the item), note them using the relationships, this includes deities that theoretically have interest with said object, good or evil otherwise.
  • Add the Intro. Here the introduction of the Treasure is added with some tidbits regarding the origins of its' creation and usage in the story. You can also add what made it popular/iconic/important here.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Treasures is 7 at minimum to 12 at maximum.

Thanks. Max Cady and Sam Bowden are up

Who would go "man, I KNOW this kind of asshole" with Burke? As for Morty, are there other supernatural beings who have given out incredible power to mortals, usually leading to some sort of aesop?

Carter J Burke, God of Ignoring Imminent Dangers To Protect One's Investment

  • Domains: Greed, Selfishness, Corporate Suits, Ambition, Cowardice, Foolishness, Manipulation
  • Varying opinion on: The Xenomorph Drone and Facehuggers (interested in and fears)
  • Interested in: The dinosaurs of Jurassic Park
  • Potential employers: Vought-American, the Umbrella Corporation, The Corpus
  • Allies: Ash, Dick Hardly
  • On good terms with: Shou Tucker
  • Enemies: Ellen Ripley, Private Jeanne Vasquez, Corporal Dwayne Hicks, Lance Bishop, Samus Aran, The Metroid Hatchling, Flint Lockwood, Dr John Hammond, Dr Alan Grant, Dr Ian Malcolm, The Crew of the Rociante
  • Fears: Ridley, the Harvesters, the Tyranids, the Headcrabs
  • Disregarded by: Lex Luthor
  • Carter Burke is the Special Projects Director for Weyland-Yutani's Special Services Division, with a clear interest in the Xenomorph colony on LV-426. Comforting Ripley after coming out of 57 years of hyper-sleep and believing her story about an alien entity killing the other members of the Nostromo, he gets involved with the marines in their mission to kill the Xenomorphs responsible for the desolation of the human colony on that planet. Despite working for the company, he's an okay guy. Except, he is putting on the front of a sympathetic individual. That lost colony? That was him; he got the colonists near a Xenomorph egg nest with no adequate warning. And now he's using them to achieve what he had tried at beforehand and smuggle a Xenomorph embryo so he can use it to up his rank in the company. And anyone who can contradict his story? He'll just jettison them while in cryo-sleep. His true personality is a slimy opportunist, acting on no-one's apparent orders asides from his own and the belief he'll go up the corporate ladder. However, Ripley is right that the Xenomorphs aren't something you can exploit, and he was last seen running for his life before a Xenomorph found him.
  • What happens afterwards is an undoubtedly grim death. If he wasn't killed outright, it's possible he would've been captured. A deleted scene has him captive and victim to a Facehugger, with the only mercy Ripley would give him being a grenade for a less painful death as she went off to find Newt. A What If? showed that even if he survived, his deal with Yutani ultimately places him in a dead-end job on a backworld planet, with his reputation being in tatters and his daughter hating him. And he deserved all of it. Carter Burke serves as a human antagonist and someone so unlikable that out-of-universe, the actor's own parents cheered for the character's death. He doesn't even have the excuse of being a sociopath, as his body language show he can feel guilt but is able to ignore it. Ellen Ripley and the marines hate that he managed to slime his way to ascending, though it doesn't change the fact he is a deeply unpopular deity for his actions. The kicker? He genuinely doesn't grasp he's in the wrong searching for profit. Much like Shou Tucker, this adds to his loathsome nature instead of excusing it.
  • Carter J Burke ascended under Suit with Vested Interests; he's a mid-level employee who has the galaxy-brain idea of making money with the disaster. He is also, essentially, a Yuppie in space, a young junior executive with shameless avarice and a smarmy charm. Though he's not the insecure Narcissist type Patrick Bateman is, nor is he mentally unstable, just supremely selfish. The two yuppies are ambivalent towards each other, though privately Burke remarks that he's remarkably boring and vain, while Bateman remarks he is an idiot. However while he may not be a psychopath like Patrick, he is undoubtedly wholly evil like him...well, unless one considers the relationship he has with his daughter in the What If? to be canon to the main timeline. Still a Hate Sink either way.
  • One could argue he's worse than the Xenomorphs since as Ridley put it, " You don't see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage". The core of Burke's motivations are naked Greed, and he has no issue writing off the people who will die for his greed as statistics. That kind of avarice has him and Dick Hardly get along, the latter having a used car salesman charm. Both of them have come Back from the Dead, at least in the sense of rebirth the Trope Pantheon provides. The two wanting to make money and being The Unfettered in that regard is most of the reason why they're allies. However, someone else showed up to be a stronger ally; Ash. The robot had plans to get the original Xenomorph Drone to the company and he believes that with Carter Burke's help, Weyland-Yutani has more potential fingers in the pantheon pie. Getting back at Ellen Ripley is one aspect of their alliance, however there's a deeper part to play; Ash is making sure to report to the company and keep Burke in check.
  • He is one of few people who is on good terms with Shou Tucker, though that's probably because of how similar they are. Tucker has a Mad Scientist bent to it, but both are seemingly average and approachable men who are actually incredibly morally bankrupt, with a worryingly blase attitude to their evil deeds and inability to see they're in the wrong. More to that, they're small men who want to promote themselves. Their goals are different if similarly venal, and Burke had to do a double take after what he did to his daughter. That said, even that's generous because it's unclear if his daughter could fit in the movie continuity. Deities from the Jurassic Park franchise comment he would make fast friends with Dennis Nedry. It went over Burke's head that this was meant to be an insult, and his mix of greed, Lack of Empathy and short-sightedness means he's probably even worse. He is curious about the various dinosaurs there for aforementioned venal reasons.
  • Burke is terrified of anything Xenomorph related as even without the deleted scene, it's unlikely his death was pleasant or that at least something horrible didn't happen to him before the comparitively merciful nuking of the hive. He doesn't have the perverse fascination Ash has, and as a robot Ash doesn't need to worry about anything Facehugger related. That said, because of what he'd get out of it, he is interested in them in a morbid fashion. Admittedly, it's down to dollar signs and its history, so fear shows up more often than "how can I make bank with this". Anything that reminds them frightens him, like the Headcrabs, the Tyranids and the Harvesters. And in fairness, he has every reason to be. Carter Burke is justifiably scared of the notorious Space Pirate Ridley, however he notes it's a bit funny in an ironic sense that "Ridley" is a letter away from "Ripley". Fortunately for him, he has not been hired to deal with anything of that nature.
  • While some beings he'll admit there's no way for him to make money from, his overall mindset of "I can find some way of using this dangerous thing and We Have Reserves" hasn't gone away. As Samus Aran noticed, he was never going to learn a lesson. She's hoping that Carter Burke gets a higher bounty on him now that the severity of his crimes are known, and she will take relish into bringing him into the House of Law and Justice. Flint Lockwood has wanted to give him a piece of his mind, a real scathing piece of his mind, as he's reminded of Mayor Shelbourne, who overtaxed the FLDSMDFR all to fill his gluttony and desire to get big in the metaphorical sense, which almost caused the food-pocalypse. Carter Burke is incapable of honesty, but he was able to show a skill with misleading and omission mixed with actual lies. Though rather than trying to get closer to his invention, he just wanted to avoid more aggression.
  • Sly, corrupt and throwing away lives for the bottom line, he is the kind of person who would fit right in with Vought. Vought-American is notorious for its recklessness and only being concerned with money. They had the stupid idea of having superpowered individuals become part of celebrity culture with all the negatives that'd imply, and who rose Homelander essentially by committee...then expect that they can keep a leash on the bundle of neuroses they fostered. Or how their contingency for him was "that, but stronger"...isn't that right, Black Noir? Essentially, they are the type of company that would consider employing him. Given what Burke was after, Umbrella Corporation sees the vision. Nobody in the right mind wants the T-Virus or G-Virus to get anywhere near anything Xenomorph related. The higher-ups at Umbrella are not in the right mind, and Burke is simply amoral enough to go along with it if he thinks he'll have a good opportunity to have a great retirement.
  • When he heard about Burke, Lex Luthor mused that of course Vought-American and the Umbrella Corporation would consider him employable. Obviously he's not known for his ethics, so his derision of Burke is down to just how stupid his plan for getting a Xenomorph embryo was. Burke still applied for LexCorp, only to get a Darwin award from the company. When it comes to actual moral outrage, the crew of the Rocinante went on a scathing "Reason You Suck" Speech against him. They spent a majority of their journey trying to stop the distribution of a sentient phlebotinum known as the Protomolecule, especially as one scientist did try to weaponize it with unethical results. And the Xenomorph turned out to be bioweapons. Again, he really did deserve that Darwin Award, and the crew's contempt.
  • Though hardly a genius, the Corpus think he has the credentials to be part of their employment as they've been discussing using the Xenomorph specimen to reverse-engineer bioweapons. If he's willing to get his hands dirty, then he can be considered potentially employable. Burker speculates that they want to try and buy out Weyland-Yutani, and as of now he is currently weighing his options if they're the best opportunity. Granted, his fear of the deadly aliens also acts as a reason he is hasn't taken the plunge yet. General chatter from forces aligned to the Space Pirates have been made on forcing Burke to work for them, but they're not yet convinced he wouldn't just be dead weight. If he weren't such a coward, he might be somewhat offended by the implication they're calling him inept.

Morty, God of "Mort" Names Being Associated With Death (The Angel of Death)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/morty.webp
  • Hall: Naming Theme (House of Naming and Epithets)
  • Greater God (masquerades as a Quasideity; has access to Overdeity-level technology)
  • Symbol: The "Way Beyond" sign at Bed, Bath and Beyond
  • Theme Song: Loony Old Morty, An Angel
  • Alignment: True Neutral
  • Portfolio: The Angel Of Death Named Morty, Trickster Mentor, The Stoic, Kind Of Off-Putting But Tries To Put Michael On The Right Track, Admires Michael's Wife Donna, The Little Shop That Wasn't There Yesterday, Don't Fear the Reaper, His Actor Has Played An Undercover Angel Before, His Way Beyond Is Much Bigger Than The Store It's In, Dark Is Not Evil, provides a Paranormal Mundane Item
  • Domains: Stores, Mentors, Death, Angels, Time
  • Inventor of: The Universal Remote
  • Special relationship with: Michael Newman
  • Allies
  • On good terms with: Bruce Nolan, George Bailey, Ebeneezer Scrooge, Puss in Boots, non-evil angels like Archangel Michael
  • Vitriolic Best Buds with: Grim
  • Enemies
  • Dismissive of: Death (Final Destination), The Look-See
  • Morty appears to be an odd man who works at the nearby Bed, Bath and Beyond Workaholic architect Michael Newman goes to. Michael finds him in the Way Beyond section, where he offers him a universal remote to help him. It doesn't take long for Michael to see what the "universal" means, allowing him to stop time, speed it up, look into his past and other reality-bending activities. Morty warned him that the product can't be returned and will program itself based on its usage, which Michael found himself learning the hard way when it began fast-forwarding through important events. Morty is well-aware of the consequence, acting as a sort of Trickster Mentor for him. And he's no mere backdoor worker; he reveals after Michael's father passed away that he took him because it was his time; he's the angel of death itself. When Michael himself was facing death, Death decided that he had learned an important moral about valuing his time, even the boring bits, so reset things to when he first went to Bed, Bath and Beyond. This time, Michael made the right call in not taking the remote.
  • Morty is the developer of the Universal Remote in The Great Treasury, and he manifested in the Trope Pantheon upon noticing it was missing. He pretended to be an engineer innocently looking for a missing appliance, though it didn't take long for Michael Newman to notice a very familiar Bed, Bath and Beyond employee was reported talking to customs in the Great Treasury. His suspicions confirmed, he met up and had an awkward conversation with Morty. Morty admitted that he's been keeping somewhat of an eye on him after he heard he ascended to the Trope Pantheon, and he has to say, he's glad that Michael has taken his lesson to heart. He then admitted that while his main reason for ascending was to make sure the Universal Remote wouldn't be stolen by nefarious hands, he also had an invite from other version of the big D. He's aware Michael Newman might have some hard feelings, and he will eventually take his father as he does everyone, but he's rooting for Michael to make the years he'll have with him worthwhile.
  • Even if the twist of his identity isn't all that much of a mystery anymore, he prefers to play on his apparent mundane identity of an eccentric inventor and store clerk. He figures it helps because be less scared about him when they're eventually bound to meet him anyway. And in the case of those who piss him off, surprise them. Paul and Peter found this out the hard way when, after a violent altercation at a retail store where they used their own universal remote to escape out of a jam, he showed up wondering what was the problem. They told him to bug off, only for him to snatch their remote from them and disable it. Morty then told them that while he's an impartial party, he finds them insufferable and undeserving of such power. When they asked who the hell they were, he knocked the two on their feet and revealed his true identity. And he made it clear if they attempt to take his remote, he'll take the sand out of their hourglass. Realizing they were out of their depths, the duo booked it.
  • He's the one who gave Michael advice regarding the Universal Remote. It's a powerful bit of technology and if misused can be a miserable experience for the user. Professionally he claims he's working out the kinks, but it seems more likely he wants to keep it that way to enforce an aesop. He is naturally immune to the effects of the Universal Remote, and as its creator the Elite Time Enforcers appreciate his word that he will help preserve the consistency of the timeline. If they're expecting him to bring the Reverse-Flash to task, though...well, they should probably call the Black Flash; he's nowhere near as fast. Morty wants to make sure that nobody tries to abuse the remote, noting that Vicky is one of many people who've proven themselves unable to be trusted with it. Also, a number of people seemed to have ignored the memo that the Universal Remote is not a toy.
  • Morty, or Mort if you will, is seen as an apt name for the angel of death. It's how he was able to officially get into the Trope Pantheon, actually; he took the opportunity to ascend under "Post-Mortem Morton", as the name is associated with death and, well, he is Death. Or at least, the angel that embodies it. Narrative-wise he has a role not too distinct from the Ghosts of Christmas, though he is more passive-aggressive when it comes to giving someone a lesson. Also, he didn't have to give Michael Newman a second chance, but he thought he deserved one. Naturally he gets along with the Ghost of Christmas Future the most, though he likes to invite all three for Christmas. Morty's actual name is probably Azrael, but like the Wolf he prefers a more unique moniker to distinguish himself from his fellow thanatosi. That Death is the hot-blooded scary reaper to Morty's stoic one, and they have differing views on how to approach their job. But the Wolf does like how he's able to teach someone the value of life; he may embody its opposite, but he respects those that value their life.
  • Seeing as he is a take on capital-D Death, if using a comparitively mundane form, he's part of the general clique of others like him. Though as mentioned, he's more partial to certain Deaths. Some he doesn't care for, like the one from Final Destination. Yes, Morty has a manipulative edge when it came to teaching Michael a lesson, however he preferred it if he did and he didn't mind giving him a do-over. That Death is more interested in punishing those who defied fate, which Morty gets but considers it needlessly sadistic. He appreciates other Deaths more professional in their conduct, or with the Death of the Endless, her pleasant attitude. Also, privately he thinks she's a hot goth. He has an interesting relationship with Grim in that he tends to roast the guy for a number of reasons, but he likes his cooking and ability to be casual with him.
  • Much like most versions of The Grim Reaper, Nekron is way too much for him. Technically Nekron is more the absence of life and an avatar of the darkness preceding it, but he's definitely death-adjacent. Their beef is merely due to Nekron's status as an Omnicidal Maniac, which would at bare minimum put Morty out of a job. Morty is straight up scared of Sutekh the Destroyer, and Ah Puch? His sadism towards the dead is way too much. The GUAD are naturally going to be an enemy of his, though since by default they're enemies with everyone who doesn't share their agenda he supposes that would go without saying. While Morty isn't an enemy of the Look-see, he doesn't agree with the way it carries out its message. He can see moving beyond bereavement as important, and Morty was trying to teach Michael his own lesson in valuing time. He just doesn't see the lethality in "taking a piece" as doing anything for him.
  • If he's the angel of death, then Michael Newman wonders if that means he knows the angel he shares a name with. Morty is on good terms with him at least, though it's ambiguous whether this is to take as recognizing some sort of authority. He's generally civil with the non-evil angels in the pantheon, and he's friends outright with the guardian angel Dudley. Morty has come to be fond of those who've had their own encounter with otherworldly agents that ended up changing them for the better. He doesn't feel disrespected by how Puss in Boots acted previously, however he is glad he's gotten his ego checked and now values the life he has left.

  • Being the son of Yasopp of the Red Hair Pirates, like his father, Usopp is a natural as a sniper. With a trusty slingshot, Usopp keeps his eyes out for his Straw Hats crew when they get into trouble. Usually, to give himself a head start before going off to the distance, as he is not built to take on what Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji fight with. Regardless, Usopp is quite a valued crewmate, not just because of his slingshot skills but because he basically maintained the Going Merry until her inevitable funeral. Usopp tumbled with his confidence as the crew trekked deadlier waters, culminating in his legendary duel against his own captain when they were going to replace the Going Merry and presumably, him one day. He came back with a renewed sense after and developed his slingshotting skills further, especially after losing weight. Now he even has Haki that helps him foresee and aim, which makes... Usopp is still one of the weaker Straw Hats, but he's still pivotal to the crew's successes.
Usopp: NEVER FEAR, the Great Captain Usopp is… is… Oh. You guys did pretty well in here.
  • If anybody asks, yes, that nose is real. And it really hurts when Usopp scrounges it by accident. This gave a clear connection from Usopp to Pinocchio, who shares getting a longer than normal nose upon every lie. This made Pinocchio assume that Usopp must be lying 24/7, which Usopp had to contest, saying that he was born this way. But since he's been screaming around Syrup Village that pirates were coming until pirates actually came, it would be harder to say he was the most honest person out there. Usopp showed Pinocchio how honest he was by identifying scams, such as the clearly scamming fox at the corner. When Pinochio asked why he was so intimate with scams, Usopp said at least what he sold in Wano worked.
  • Usopp works well with kids, especially those who have slingshots of their own. Dennis Mitchel, Bart Simpson, and Leslie Clarke are just some kids he showed off slingshotting to. Usopp said that maybe they too could burn the World Government's flag one day. Then there are four certain South Park kids Usopp had a challenge with. First off, they ran their mouths off severely more than his iconic Usopp Pirates. Second, they only want to learn slingshots to go pelt the cars of assholes. Usopp still liked their energy... except for Cartman, who already knew how to use slingshots and just wanted to hit someone in the balls again. Usopp taught Cartman a lesson by pouring some Tabasco all over his food, leading to Cartman being on the toilet for two hours straight.
  • Due to some well-placed lies, Usopp's World Government threat assessment is exaggerated at best. This is showcased by Usopp inheriting Luffy's bounties whenever they change, seemingly following his captain's strength. However, there is a noticeable trend that Usopp's lies eventually stop being lies. A nation of dwarves? They look up to Usopp. Having hardened killers behind him? Former Dressrosa slaves made Usopp their GOD. Even a giant goldfish? The Straw Hats found it. If it continues, then Usopp will likely become as dangerous as his boasts suggest. Who recognized Usopp of all people as an eventual threat is Doctor Doom, who recalled his most severe underestimation and how that humiliated him since. He captured Usopp and imprisoned him in Latveria, attempting to convince Usopp to join his side. Only for the Straw Hat to be broken out by a squirrel who was sent by that underestimation Doom recalled. Usopp ended up stumbling across Doom to his misfortune. He managed to get away by throwing something at Doom with such precision that it caught the king by surprise, therefore proving his belief in Usopp.
    Usopp: Rubber band of doom!
Doctor Doom: Argh! That got my eye!
  • Perhaps the most notorious aspect of Usopp is being the Sniper King Sogeking, a man from Sniper Island whose theme makes people dance like Lu lu lala lu〜♪. While the other Straw Hats and, relatively recently, the World Government realized who Sogeking is, the Pantheon goes around believing that it must be a coincidence that Usopp disappears whenever Sogeking is around. Usopp does not truly need the Sogeking identity since he wore it to avoid facing Luffy after their falling out, though it is too iconic to completely abandon. He wore it again when he was in a city, hearing how some Straw Hat Grand Fleet cews got mugged by a clown's goons there. Usopp was clearly scared, though a giant bat-shaped man gave him the advantage to give the goons and their ringleader concussions with his slingshot. Batman managed to arrest the Joker again, this time, letting Sogeking go for his help after acknowledging him after getting his crew's money back. It should be amoral to let a pirate be the Caped Crusader, though he can certainly say he trusts the World Government less than the Straw Hats.
    Batman: Thank you, Uso-
Joker: You mean the Sogeking, the man from Sniper Island? Come on, Bats, you should know this is basic courtesy!
Batman: How did you even know about this?
  • When it came to snipers, Usopp came as a shock to people when fighting alongside or against snipers. The Sniper and Lt. Fairburne didn't expect the pirate cowering behind barriers to suddenly map out the area, then tactically take out the enemy in one shot. When the chips are down, Usopp will fight, but it takes some desperation for him to go this far. A notable sniper battle that Usopp won was against Widowmaker, with Usopp's Haki going into overdrive, dodging every one of her shots. Before Widowmaker knew it, Usopp vanished, and she thought the coward had vanished. Then she found the hard way how dangerous Usopp's panted Usopp Tactics could be when a 5-Ton Hammer struck her head. Some of the few direct victories Usopp can claim were without any help. He would have used the fake balloon hammer, but he was not giving such a dangerous enemy any chances.
  • When it comes to plants, Usopp is not only a decent gardener but also weaponizes plants. H brought seeds called Pop Greens from the island where he stayed for two years. Each seed gives a unique plant that instantaneously grows, making it his most useful tool. They are also quite precious as ammo, so Usopp had to go buy some alternative seeds from a guy named Crazy Dave. Then the Zombies started knocking, freaking Usopp out that he brought a cross and talismans. Then Crazy Dave had him defend the house for a good few nights to his dismay, with Usopp managing to defeat Dr. Zombot at the end, not with the plants he procured for a few days, but with a gun. Usopp sometimes forgot he bought more than one for the crew.
  • Usopp and Hot Rod parallel a dilemma of self-worth and sense of place. Hot Rod had to be Rodimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots, after causing the death of his predecessor. Hot Rod was thrust into a role that he was a replacement for a beloved figure, making it a persistent struggle to uphold the Prime legacy. Then the leader returned, with Hot Rod returning the leadership role back to him. The more he dwells on how he left the Autobot leadership, the more Hot Rod struggles with low self-esteem of essentially being removed from an entrusted duty. Usopp feels for Hot Rod, seeing his struggles with abandonment in Hot Rod. He said they should have fun slagging some Decepticons with Abnormal Ammo that Ironhide left behind as slingshot ammo. Hot Rod knows that he would have done this before he took on the Rodimus Prime mantle... But it doesn't mean at the moment that Decepticon pranks off the table.
    Megatron: My equilibrium! Destabilized!
Starscream: Megatron has fa- SWEET PRIMUS! I can't see! My equilibrium! DESTABILIZED!
  • It comes as no surprise that Courage and Usopp get along swimmingly. Already, Usopp is seen as a big brother by Chopper, but Chopper has more metaphorical balls than Courage. Usopp and Courage could be seen screaming across Nowhere when something with a semblance of spookiness happens. Luckily for Usopp, he is somewhat decent at solutions, so his first solution for problems is to go to Courage's Computer and type in answers. However, it became clear that the Computer has a distinct distaste for Usopp because it knows that if he grew a pair, a lot of problems could be solved. It just keeps calling Usopp a twit, making the sniper wonder why he still consults it. It still has to answer in its own pessimistic way; otherwise, Usopp might pull the plug.
  • Captain Quark has been keen on taking in Usopp for his bounty. Mainly because Quark correctly assesses that Usopp is likely the weakest in his crew despite his Haki. As one egotistical exaggerator to another, Quark sees how Usopp's uplifted image can easily backfire against himself. But whenever he comes to apprehend Usopp, some more pressing threat like another pirate crew gets in the way. Quark is honestly getting a bit sick of fighting alongside the long-nosed twerp. Usopp doesn't carry any love for Quark either, with Usopp at least not gloating about himself every other minute like Quark does. Regardless, the egoists are surprisingly a decent team together when it comes to fighting since they are on a similar wavelength. Does not make butting heads less often than not.
  • There is a clear distaste for Jonah that comes from Usopp, mainly for his tendency to send boats to the lonely seabed. No matter how prepared he was, Usopp wept when the Going Merry finally fell. He was essentially intertwined with the ship from Kaya, seeing how much she struggled on the Grand Line yet pushed on until the very end. If one did not understand, it parallels Usopp's journey, except he outlived her. Seeing Jonah sink ships, he gets on pressed Usopp's buttons, being reminded of how Merry's fate. When seeing Jonah on a raft towards the Thousand Sunny, Usopp grabbed as many cannonballs as he could and fired at him. He told the other Straw Hats that it was a Marine sent to sink their ship. Not that Usopp was wrong, since Jonah actually was sent by the World Government to bring bad luck that'll sink his crew.
  • As Usopp dreams of being a brave warrior of the sea, the number one place he wants to go to on the Grand Line is Elbaf, where the giants have a warrior culture. He was initially excited to see a giant after learning it dwelled in a cave... Usopp quickly learned the giant cyclops was more interested in eating him than sharing a love for warriorship. He tried running and hiding from the colossus, almost being caught, but a well-shot slingshot pellet gave Usopp time to run far. Usopp really hopes the rest of Elbaf is not so terrifying because it would make his journey wasted if, at the end, he were being prepped as a French fry.
  • Dinobot is reminded of Rattrap with Usopp, with the arrogance and cowardice that comes from the man. The former Predacon is miffed by such similarities and subsequently challenged Usopp to a battle in the jungle. Of course, Usopp was not having any of that and fled the best he could, but Dinobot's instincts overwhelmed his own. Granted, Usopp did lay some clever traps and escape plans, but rats will eventually get caught if their predator is too persistent. When Dinobot disarmed Usopp and had his sword at his throat, Dinobot demanded what Usopp would do next to see if he would worm his way out of it like Rattrap would have done. That was when Dinobot was caught by surprise by both Usopp's answer, as well as the Impact Dial that Usopp kept on his person, blowing him away. Dinobot was too stunned yet satisfied by the outcome, so the Maximal lay there as Usopp got away.
Dinobot: You lost your weapon, supposed brave warrior of the sea! What are you now?
Usopp: A w-warrior still! Impact Dial!
  • Sokka and Usopp share a similarity of being relatively normal person compared to their peers. It made them feel too lowly about themselves at times, despite their wits and smarts carrying them significantly on their respective journeys. They even share wanting to live up to their famous fathers, who are great fighters. They lent each other's iconic weapons, with Sokka getting relatively decent at a slingshot for picking it up for the first time. Usopp was not so lucky. He already knows how to use a boomerang, but when he threw Sokka's, he was too busy gloating at how far he threw it to notice it came back to him. One direct blow to the nose, and now Usopp is trying to straighten it out.
  • Usopp is decent with tools, though certainly never became too brilliant at it, especially on a ship with limited resources. His most impressive invention was Nami's Clima-Tact, and that was supposed to be for parties. He doesn't like that he has to rope outsiders into this, but what Phineas and Ferb make truly does help him. Unfortunately for Usopp, the moment he tries showing said inventions, they vanish from sight. He actually started to wonder if the two boys put a self-destruct button on those things because of how he can't even use an invention for one thing. To the point that Usopp gave up on making them work, and started to break them down into pieces as scrap for other things. A waste of effort to make them, but it is even more of a waste if they just disappear too.
  • Daenerys Targaryen knows the name of GOD Usopp, a man who liberated pirates from slavery and was subsequently deified. Reminds her of herself in a rather appealing manner, to the point that Euron avoids where the Straw Hats are for fear of GOD Usopp destroying his slavery income. But make no mistake, Daenerys has no love for Usopp, as the pirates he liberated have been at odds with her own fleet. The Straw Hat Grand Fleet may not be at war with Daenerys yet, though it remains a tense standoff. She lamented that instead of Usopp, it should have been her who saved them from Doflamingo to prevent this entire situation from happening, even if she was unaware of Doflamingo's entire existence at the time.
  • If there is anybody who shares Usopp's taste for tall tales, it would be Paul Bunyan, who is at the center of many. Usopp mistook Paul Bunyan for a giant of Elbaf, when the figure just so happens to be only a giant lumberjack. As he chops a tree, Usopp goes on about his achievements, which are legitimately impressive. Except he makes them all about himself, making it seem he did all the heavy work. Not that the Straw Hats really care about him underplaying them, since they find his stories amusing. Especially Luffy and Chopper, who are enamored with how Usopp tells stories, even though they were pretty central to most of them. Paul Bunyan's attitude to Usopp can be called an understated, similar excitement.
Luffy: Three cheers for Captain Usopp! We couldn't have done it without him! WOOOOOOO!
  • When it comes to Aveline de Grandpré and Adéwalé, slave liberty is what they are most famous for as Assassins. They kidnapped Usopp once with the intention of liberating a plantation. While Usopp certainly is known for how he got the GOD title, he pointed out that freeing slaves isn't really a regular occurrence for him. Still, they more or less pushed Usopp to help since he is a useful person. To their surprise, for as much fear and clumsiness Usopp displayed, he worked well coordinating with their efforts. If he took things more seriously, they could honestly see Usopp be valued as dangerous Assassin sharpshooter. They let Usopp take credit for breaking them out, as Assassins naturally dwell in the darkness rather than in the spotlight of infamy. Not that Usopp would refuse the attention, of course.
  • King David may have mastered the sling, though he never mastered the slingshot. He got Usopp to teach him how, expecting him to be some common, if skilled, criminal. However, King David was surprised by Usopp's tenacity with weaponry, going so far as to aim for a rock across a mountain from the bottom. Yet King David cannot help notice Usopp has qualities of a king with his determination to reach for the top and unwillingness to be truly intimidated, despite it seeming that he could. If Usopp is already a brave warrior of the sea, then his ambitions would naturally be higher than he might even reveal. When King David finally got the hang of the slingshot, he aimed at Usopp, trying to see if he was afraid. Usopp certainly was taken aback and filled with terror, but King David could tell that fear was only at an instinctive surface. He could tell Usopp had already calculated different ways to disarm him, a dead ringer for a brave warrior if not a conqueror.
  • When it comes to being a sharpshooter, Usopp has a rivalry with Hol Horse. Considering the Stand user uses a gun that homes in on people, a good chunk would say Usopp wins because it comes from his skill. Sure, Usopp missed on a rare occasion, but that is against foes who are legitimately more superpowered than he is. Hol Horse has never seen Usopp miss because he fired at Usopp's shots, negating them. What he didn't expect from one fight was Usopp to take a different approach and start chasing down Hol Horse with a claw. Not a normal weapon of Usopp's arsenal, yet the Crocodile claw instilled fear in more than a few pirates. Usopp laughed evilly the entire time as Hol Horse fired at Usopp, who blocked every bullet with the claw.

Man or child, strong or weak, none of those matter once you are out at sea!

Guys, it's Condoriano's fellow crewmate

So have a new idea and a new rework. New franchise for me to palette cleanse.

Optimus Primal, God of Distant Sequels (the leader of the Maximals is the face of the Beast Wars era of Transformers, the distance taking place eons from the first Transformers show where the Maximals are descendants of the Autobots with smaller organic transformations. This trope goes double fold for its sequel distance because the sequel takes place in the past where Optimus and the Maximals time travel millions of years before the first Transformer show started. The trope goes forward again because direct sequel Beast Machines has Optimus and pals jump millions of years distance back to the proper period.)

Megatron (Beast Wars), God of Character Refinement (Yes, a rework. Megatron from Beast Wars is interesting to see his characterization progression. He goes from petty powerhungry warmonger doing anything technosupremicist genocidal overlord who wants to become God in the sequel show. Two really distinct eras that are a stark difference even if the core personality is the same. Interesting thing about this Megatron is that it forced the original Megatron namesake to have his own characterization march on. The original Megatron was a screechy maniac who became more serious and calculating to match this Megatron.)

Could both deities also work as a shared profile as both are in Beast Wars and Beast Machines as adversaries for the most of the series? -

Optimus Primal and Megatron, Divine Rivalry of Distant Sequels

Edit: For the record, I'm just an idea guy. If you or someone else wishes to work them, I would support them.

Would it be fine if I suggest Baron Ashura and Count Brocken to replace Crush and Gulp for representing Co-Dragons? I think given that in the show, Ashura and Brocken are iconic right hands of the big bad Dr. Hell who actually gives command to Dr. Hell’s army and both of them will have fun dynamic, mainly trying to compete with each other and their unique personalities, they fit Co-Dragons better than Crush and Gulp, who seems to more like muslces to Ripto

I think Iike Gundam and Dragon Quest too much

@M1gami: I'll give a [tup] to merging Beastwars!Optimus and Megatron under Distant Sequel if you're willing to do that. Transformers is at risk of Overrep to me and I'd like to conserve where we can.

And speaking of Transformers, I'd like to propose a trope change for one of the currently ascended. Right now, Waspinator is ascended under Wicked Wasps. I really don't think this is a good fit for multiple reasons (A: he's not a wasp, just a robot themed after one with some wasp DNA apparently, and B: he's usually portrayed as a sympathetic Butt-Monkey which makes the "wicked" part of the trope very weak, at least for his most well-known Beast Wars appearance). While I'm not sure of an alternative to Wicked Wasps at the moment, Nights Da Jester suggested to me a potential alternative trope for Waspinator to take:

Waspinator is one of the few flying Predacons of the team, and in their in-universe bios he has a noticeably lower endurance than most of the other teammates (A 4, to be specific. For comparison, Rattrap, the smallest and weakest character on the show, has an endurance score of 5). This low amount of endurance is likely one of the many factors which make his plans nearly always end in failure.

I don't know if I'm insane or just cashews.

I see that everyone is doing Transformers now, and I am glad to see someone is going to do the Maximals and Predacons. I should add mines as well:
  • The Thirteen Primes, Cybertronian Pantheon of New Member in Adaptations: Their membership often shifts with other integrants: the Covenant had Prima, Vector, Alpha Trion, Solus, Micronus, Alchemist, Nexus, Onyx, Amalgamous, Quintus, Liege, Megatronus and the Thirteen, but in Multiversal Thirteen, they have Autonomous, Logos, Solomus and Epitesmius replacing some of them. Other members consists of Adaptus, Mortilus and sometimes the Thirteenth Prime are either Sentinel, Nova or Zeta. Each continuity often add a new member by replacing one of the originals.
  • Prowl, God of Mecha Expansion Packs: His Animated incarnation gets this treatment through Yoketron's armor that he passes on to him
  • Blackarachnia, Goddess of Sultry Spiders: Blackarachnia can turn into a spider and is often the Femme Fatale for the Decepticons and the Predacons. Her Beast Wars version manages to earn the love of Silverbolt this way and her Animated form is also very sexy as well.

Don't really know much Transformers, and I am somewhat ambivalent to Blackarachnia as a choice. That said I would not be against her even if she's not a biological spider

Sorry if I come off as dismissive, to be honest I feel like my post has been ignored

[down]OK thanks, I have Burke at the minimum

Misfortune once again befalls Waspinator as he's booted out of his temple in spectacular fashion, but thankfully someone arranged for him to move to a new temple...albeit one that isn't quite as nice as before. Wicked Wasps is now free to use.

As for the other Transformers ideas above, I'm giving Blackarachnia a [tdown]. I don't like the idea of cheating an actual spider (or otherwise a spider-like or spider-adjacent creature) out of Seductive Spider to give to a robot that's just themed after one, similar to how I felt Waspinator having Wicked Wasps was cheating out an actual evil wasp out of the Pantheon. I'll abstain on the other two.

I don't know if I'm insane or just cashews.

I have another idea from a Ghibli film I would like some evaluation on. I am considering Mahito Maki and The Grey Heron for The Noun and the Noun (Hall of Work Titles). It is a Studio Ghibli film which it main characters are Mahito, and a tengu known as the Grey Heron. So the work is about a boy and a heron. How would I word this. Or would you suggest a different trope for Mahito?

If characters from Transformers are being suggested, I was considering adopting these characters from Muundeis if possible, to save for later.

  • Professor Issac Sumdac, God of Technological Pacifism
    • Professor Issac Sumdac is the CEO of Sumdac Systems, a robotics company whose robots are designed from Professor Sumdac reverse-engineering Megatron's Cybertronian body. Issac Sumdac refuses to have his company make any military weapons and forbids his employees from building any military-related projects, to the point that he fires Henry Masterson partially because he tried to make a weapon of mass destruction for his company. When Porter C. Powell takes over during Sumdac's absence, he hires Masterson and starts making weapons.
  • Sari Sumdac, Bearer of the Amulet of Concentrated Awesome
    • Sari's access key card was bestowed a sliver of the AllSpark's power, transforming it into a key that can heal Cybertronians, manipulate machines, detect Cybertronian energy signatures or fragments of the AllSpark. Sari would either put the Key to good use or use it for Mundane Utility purposes. After Sari is revealed to be a technorganic being that's half human, Sari would use the Key to upgrade herself, leading to her Plot-Relevant Age-Up and becoming more capable as an ally of the Autobots at the cost of the Key's power being completely drained into her body.
