Trope Pantheons Discussion

Go To

Welcome to the Trope Pantheons thread! Please read the rules:

    Rules
Rules. The following are not suggestions or tips, but things that have to be followed:
  • When writing a profile, take note of the following:
    • The very first thing any contributor should do before working on an idea or a profile is to propose and nominate the idea on the Trope Pantheons discussion thread. In the forums, you must discuss with other users on adding ideas and seek their approval with sound reasoning, a paragraph of reasoning to justify taking a trope should be sufficient. This is done to see if your proposal is the best representative and so, in case your profile is turned down, you do not waste time writing something that others might not find suitable. You can also get some assistance in the forum thread by either asking for help and those interested asking if they can help. Attempting to work on ideas without a nomination and at least one net thumbs-up will not be accepted regardless of how much you have written already. Submissions that are added without discussion are likely to be deleted and those who violate those rules by adding Pantheon content without discussion will get reported to the mods.
    • If you feel the need to remove a character for some reason (poor quality, outdated titles, etcetera) and replace him/her with another or outright rework, please see what the other tropers think about this in the discussion thread before doing anything hasty. For reworks in particular, nominate the idea as you would with new characters or profiles. Use good reasoning to see if your idea can easily replace the character present without drawing out your statement or giving too ambiguous claims most do not understand.
      • In the same vein, if you adopt a profile from another troper, it is recommended that you make an announcement that you have done so on the discussion thread. More often than not, a trope that was reserved for something was given away to someone else. Check the Related tab on the top of a page to see if a trope or character has been reserved by a user, either in the Pantheon or the Sandbox sections.
    • If, for whatever reason, you are writing about a God who just happens to be a person in real life, just try to be very careful about what you decide to say. Do not try to make the editing seem too meta (self-referential) and use the creativity to create hypothetical scenarios towards fictional characters. Some real-life individuals, including content creators (fictional content created by them is still fair-game, but do not bring up the creators themselves in such cases), may be considered disqualified for profiles due to controversies that would make them concern the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment. To determine where a current creator would be disqualified:
      • Wait for at least a month after the latest significant update for a creator's controversy before any decision can be made. If a confirmation from the questioned creator (or associates) themselves occurs, then wait for a week.
      • Immediate disqualification for either a guilty sentence in a significant court case against the creator, or evidence of consistently repeated, deliberate, and/or intentionally provocative hate speech and advocacy of dehumanizing perspectives, with lesser examples warranting caution instead.
      • For creators with a clear persona of their character disclosed before any scandal, the persona can have a profile with no mentioning of their real-life information. Ambiguous existence of a persona would have to be discussed further hand for anything more decisive.
    • For obvious reasons, gods cannot be followers, high priests, or heralds. The 'gods' have ascended meaning there is no need for said character to be a follower of another if they have ascended.
    • No hype profiles, please. 'Hype Profiles' are profiles that have been made out of ongoing events and have not been around for a long time. This creates 'hype' due to popularity and certain elements either through certain scenes, memes, dramatic acting or considered overly awesome. They are not bad tropes but building a portfolio solely for that is a bad idea, as they do not say a thing about representing the trope best (unless it's those trope concepts that they are trying to embody for a long time)
      • You can see one if the profile is only showing off how awesome they are or suddenly pushing how 'significant' they are thanks to the just very recent events rather than respecting the longstanding good representations of the trope. And usually having... minimum portfolio or flavor texts and being a bit too generalized or self-contained to events from within their home series instead of interacting with other Pantheon members.
  • When posting in the forum, take note of the following:
    • When you suggest a God, please explain why they fit the trope. Not everyone is going to understand just "X should be the God of Y because they exemplify the trope" off the bat, especially if they're unfamiliar with the work.
    • You must use the Trope Pantheons discussion thread in the forums if you wish to add a new deity, story, something else of importance to the Trope Pantheon canon, or reworking an existing deity (be it simply improving their existing profile or changing their title).
      • For new and reworked deities, 3 [tup] means the profile will have a one-week waiting period.
      • For new and reworked deities, 4 [tup] is a 3 day waiting period.
      • 5 [tup] is an automatic ascension for new and reworked deities.
      • Speaking of reworks, for anyone that wants to improve such profiles, they have to review the current trope the character(s) has and see if it still holds up or if there is a better rep for their trope.
    • For adding new Treasures to The Great Treasury or new Dominions to the Dominions Expansion, the following rules apply:
      • For new Treasures or Dominions, 3 [tup] is a 3 day waiting period.
      • 4 [tup] is an automatic addition to the Great Treasury or Dominions.
    • Do not repost a profile in the forums more than twice a day if noticeable changes have not been made in between. If a profile is posted a third time in a row without noticeable alterations, it will be downvoted. This is so spamming of no-effort profiles is less frequent and to prevent tropers from getting aggravated seeing the same profile over and over. The minimum acceptable change has to be one flavor text.
    • The Pantheon is not a mouthpiece for you to voice your opinions on certain characters. You may like certain characters more than others, but do not make the mistake of making profiles for characters you like to look like Character Shilling.
    • Every troper new to the Pantheon is barred from approving or downvoting profiles until they have ascended at least two profiles, this means avoiding the usage of "[tup]" or "[tdown]".
    • Do not include fan reception in any profiles. It has nothing to do with the character themselves and will create unnecessary conflict.
    • Write a detailed explanation on why the character is the best candidate for the deity of that trope. If people disagree with you, do not force it on the people.
    • Keep in mind that if you still want to try to find a trope for a particular character, you are only given three chances to find a particular trope for them. If a suggestion goes past three possible tropes, then it will come off as shoehorning a character into the Pantheon just for the sake of that character to be there.
      • On a related note, even if a character does have a free trope being suggested, there is still a limit of three attempts for suggesting that character for that trope. If no one responds to that certain proposal after being posted three times, then it will get to the point where the idea will be seen as being shoehorned into the Pantheon. In addition, the idea needs to be considered acceptable and approved because they are good, not for the sake of pitying others. After all, no one is responding to their idea.
    • You can also adopt a profile or idea to work on from another contributor by messaging a request to them (preferably through private messages). Even if you get their permission, you still have to announce your adoption to the forum. Note that if the idea wasn't nominated in the first place you still have to properly nominate it.
  • When posting Pantheon related stuff to the wiki, take note of the following:
    • Do not put a link to these Pantheon pages into the main wiki page. The moment you want to note in a trope example that the character is a God of this trope, do not do it. If you see leftovers of this practice, correct the situation by deleting the offending text. This goes for any non-Pantheon page. The only exception to this rule is if a page in the Pantheon could be confused for a page in Main, like Good Colors, Evil Colors and Pantheon.Good And Evil Colors.
    • Do not bring things that would incite fights; hot topics and 'urgent' news are not pertinent to the Pantheon's mission. For example, the political scene and some really bad politicians. We are not here to fight each other, so don't suggest things that go in that direction, this is a fictional Pantheon after all.
    • To add a Pantheon page for a certain work, 4 or more characters coming from the same series/franchise should be ascended before adding the page. For Creator specific pages, 4 deities coming from the same creator and 2 individual work pages coming from the same creator is the minimum to warrant a page.
    • Do not create a trope page for a story until the story is fully completed.
    Instructions and Tips
Here are some tips one should keep in mind when editing:
  • When writing a profile for a character, here are a few things to note:
    • Please refer to Text Formatting Rules when writing a profile, since understanding how to make and edit site pages in general is a necessity for working on profiles or other Pantheon content. Additionally, if you are not experienced with English, refer to this forum page, as proper English spelling and grammar is expected.
    • All deities should be sorted by their divine ranking. Put Overdeities on the top of the page and Quasideities on the bottom. Also, be sure to add them in alphabetical order by their first/given name (can be reversed if it is Eastern ordered). For a group, if there is no official name for them all list down all their names by order of relevance or (if too long to list) title them as Insert Name Here Main Characters or some other identifiable title along the same lines.
    • The maximum number of tropes that a god can have is two, but do not try to abuse that fact. If you need to use a second trope to specify a certain thing about their position, that can be excused either because said character represents their trope choice very well alongside the first trope. It is still generally encouraged to only have one trope.
    • A trope can only belong to one profile at a time. The only time two profiles can share a trope is if there are explicit variations listed in the trope page proper (e.g. Muscle Angst is held by both Biscuit Krueger and Chihiro Fujisaki as the former represents "Too Much Muscle" and the latter represents "Not Enough Muscle")
    • If the character you are about to add to a House already exists in another, make sure to mention that this person has spots in another House as well. Up to 2 places can be made for a deity at most.
    • For a character's theme song, try to avoid calling it "Theme of God X" or "Theme of (Show where God X originates from)". If possible, try to find out if the song has an actual name through research. Most importantly, it has to be part of their series' official soundtracks from the media. Do not list songs that are made by fans or outside sources. If they were not specifically used as music for that specific character, then they do not count. Furthermore, it has to be a general theme specifically made for that characters' appearances, not some generic music that plays for many other instances not related to the character in question.
    • For images, when adding an image for your chosen character, it is highly recommended to use a stylized image that embodies the character or renders that also highlight a character's behavior (such as cool poses). Most images should be from the main adaptations of the character unless the images from the other media are of a higher quality than the adaptation. Unless it is needed, do not use fanart for images. If you are, please attribute it to the original artist. Due to the website's dark mode, removing white backgrounds from an image is paramount. This website is suggested to do the background removal. If an image you have takes up too many bytes, it is suggestible to use this site to reduce the byte size. If the byte is still too big, run the compressed image through other sites (or even the same one) to compress even further. Use wikis to look for better images, as even wikis for the series might not contain good official images.
    • Creativity is your friend. While it is not recommended to get too ditzy at your ideas, it is best that when writing a profile for a certain character, do you think of capable scenarios between X and Y. Tip: do not use shallow examples (X wields a sword and Y wields one too) and try to think of relationships that make sense (i.e those characters that are shout-outs for another).
  • Pantheon Content:
    • Some series or genres will eventually have greater representation in the Pantheon than others. This is unavoidable, but a little diversity helps to make you not look like a shill. Try to ensure that if you add a deity from a popular series, make sure that it is because they are a good representative for the trope in question, and not just because they are connected to another deity in their respective canon.
      • As far as deities from actual mythologies, there is generally an expectation to build the profiles off interactions from fictional portrays rather than basing it entirely from the actual myth. Therefore, a mythological deity should be more of a Composite Character whose main identity is from the actual myth.
    • Occasionally there will be Gods that carry a title without a trope. This is not forbidden, but it is well-advised not to abuse them. The only house where trope-less profiles are wholly allowed is the House of Food. Mainly due to most food items lacking tropes, and adding tropes about said foodstuffs is slightly unnecessary. However, the character being ascended for their choice of food, or food-related thing must be a decently good representative of said item. (i.e their Trademark Favorite Food, or something that they are closely associated with In-Universe, or both).
    • For Dominions and Treasures profiles, always consider what made those places/objects popular in the first place. Were they plot-important, identifiable imagery or have a unique aspect of it? Do not just bring regular objects under the basis of following a certain canon.
    • Do not write in self-promotion or blatant advertising. Minor references to something are fine but writing that clearly intends to advertise something will not be given toleration.
  • For Profile Standards:
    • Flavor text is used to describe certain things about a character, place, or object. To avoid short ones, it is recommended to write flavor text with 4-7 sentences that can fill around 2 lines each. Be warned that adding too many sentences does not equal good flavor text as it is not an essay of sorts (unless words are substantial and do add to the overall line).
    • Character Profiles of a certain person should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 7 (at the minimum) tropes describing their character.
      • Flavor text count for a deity profile should have by minimum, 10 (depending on if the character in question has enough relationships/characterization) to 15 with a maximum of 20-25 for an individual profile.
      • On the other hand, group profiles (profiles of a group that has 4 or more members) have their maximum flavor text count to 15 minimum, giving individual lines for the other members of the group (unless the members are not as characterized) up to 30 at max.
    • Dominion profiles of a certain place should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 5 (at the minimum) tropes describing the context of the place.
      • Flavor text count should range at least 10 to 15.
    • Treasure profiles (inanimate objects without a trope) should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 6 (at the minimum) tropes that describes the object itself.
      • Flavor text count should be at least 7 flavor text up to 12 to constitute a treasure profile.
    Divine Ranking System
  • Overdeity: Omnipotent-level Reality Warper deities capable of manipulating the entire universe (or at least the world) at will. Within their own universe they are believed to be omnipotent, or at least impossible-to-completely-destroy embodiments or concepts.
  • Greater Gods: High-level Reality Warper deities that are extremely powerful (capable of destroying or changing anywhere from a large city to a planet at will) and very strong non-reality warpers capable of doing the same thing.
  • Intermediate Gods: Deities at this level are capable of strong but specialized powers such as hydrokinesis, pyrokinesis, etc. without major drawbacks and low-level Reality Warper beings capable of affecting their immediate area at will.
  • Lesser Gods: Capable of highly specific or little power on their own, or suffer from Power at a Price. However, they may be able to ruthlessly exploit their power or combine it with just being badass enough to make up for it.
  • Demigods: Badass Normal citizens of the pantheon, making up for their lower status with strength, strategy, and/or planning.
  • Quasideities: Any otherwise normal human, human equivalent, or below without any special powers or training will fall here.
    Templates
Template for adding a new deity: God X, God/Goddess/Deity of (Insert Trope Here) (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)
  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Rank: This can range from Quasideity, Demigod, Lesser God, Intermediate God, Greater God, to Overdeity, based on the representation of power mentioned above.
  • Symbol: An image or icon used to represent the deity.
  • Theme Song: Official song (in other words, no fan music, regardless of quality) that usually is used in affiliation with the character. If the deity is a musician this will most likely be their Signature Song. If possible, give a link for reference, preferably on either a website like Soundcloud or YouTube.
  • Alignment: Good, evil, neutral, etc. Forget about The Great Character Alignment Debate here; the Pantheon is one of the few places where you can assign Dungeons & Dragons alignments to characters that don't have an alignment system. After all, the Pantheon is based on D&D and is made for fun.
  • For Pokémon deities only:
    • Gender: Defines the gender of the Pokémon; if genderless, it instead defines what gender they identify as.
    • Ability: Provides the Pokémon's ability. If they can Mega Evolve, the new ability is listed as well.
    • Moves: Defines the four moves used by a Pokémon. A Z-Move may also be listed.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the character.
  • Domains: Things that the character has influence over.
  • Herald: Non-ascended loyal character that is from the same series as the ascended character.
  • High Priest: Non-ascended like heralds, but not from the same series, and can serve as a worthy replacement in case the deity would be unavailable, incapacitated, dead, or otherwise incapable of carrying out their duties. They can be served as part-time workers in case the originals are busy with some jobs. Co-Godhood is accepted depending on the approval of the originals, usually if the co-deity is from the same series.
  • Followers: Non-ascended characters that are not part of the Pantheon, but would probably worship this character by the fact that they share the ascended character's trope.
  • Relationships between ascended characters go here with your chosen character, it goes something like this:
    • Allies: Members of the Pantheon that are allies, those that share the same values as them and would theoretically be friends with them.

    • Rivals: Members of the Pantheon that are rivals, people who may look at your character with suspicion or a challenge.
    • Enemies: Members of the Pantheon that are foes, those who would see your chosen character as a threat, either from their perspective or yours.
    • Additional Character Relationships: Members of the Pantheon that do not fit in various relationships (examples include Enemy Mine, Vitriolic Best Buds, Teeth-Clenched Teamwork, Headbutting Heroes, Friendly Enemy, Friendly Rival, Just Friends, etc.), allies, rivals, or enemies.
    • Partner: Defines a partnership with an ascended deity and Mon-type. (if any)
    • Feared by/Fears: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon notably fear or are feared by.
    • Respected by/Respects: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon respect or are respected by.
    • Opposed by/Opposes: Not necessarily the same as "Enemies", but this is used for any deity whom the members of the Pantheon directly oppose or are opposed by (basically the opposite of "Respects", "On Good Terms With", and/or "Commonality Connection") in terms of certain viewpoints, regardless of alignment.
    • Pitied by/Pities: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon feel pity for or are found pitiable by.
    • Conflicting Opinion: Sometimes, the Deities argue over specific themes and philosophies.
      • OPTIONAL NOTE FOR CHARACTER RELATIONSHIPS: Should the list for Character relationships (IE. Allies, Enemies, etc.) become too big, categorize a certain number of characters to a specific group putting them on a sublist (One example: Luigi is from the same world as his brother Mario, hence Luigi should be fall under the Super Mario Bros sublist.)
  • Add the Intro. The intro is made up of two trivia, the Ascension Text (or just the Ascension) and The Bio. Both are necessary, but which order you use for them may vary depending on the profile in question. It may be better for one profile to have The Bio first and the Ascension second or vice-versa, although for the most part, the order is irrelevant:
    • The Ascension Text: This is the story of how the character got into the Pantheon and/or was ascended. There are many ways for this to happen. They may be tricked into it or have simply wandered into the Pantheon, they may have had an already ascended character bring them in, they may already be in the Pantheon (via being another deity's Herald or sharing a trope) and got "promoted", or some combination of the above. Anything is possible in the Pantheon, so use your imagination, but try to incorporate their trope into the story, if possible.
    • The Bio: A brief synopsis of the character's backstory. No need for the character's entire life/production history, but just give enough that those who don't know the character can get an idea of how the character works.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Deities/Characters is 10-15 (15-20 for group profiles) at minimum to 20-25 (30 for group profiles) at maximum.
Template for Dominions profiles: Place X, Place of (Insert Trope Here) (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)
  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Theme Song (Optional): Not important as compared to Deity and Dominion profiles but a notable mention if there is an accompanying song in use with the object.
  • Alignment: Refers to the dominion's role in their story, be it those used by villains or used by the Player Character.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the dominion.
  • Domains: Things that the place has links to.
  • Relationships (Optional): Unless the location has a connection with a specific deity, relationships are optional and may not be required. However, if there are deities linked to the same series as to where the dominion is linked to, note them using the relationships, this includes deities that theoretically have interest with said dominion, good or evil otherwise.
  • Add the Intro. Here the introduction of the Dominion is added with some tidbits regarding the origins of its' creation and usage in the story. You can also add what made it popular/iconic/important here.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Dominions is 10 at minimum to 15 at maximum.
Template for Treasure profiles: The name of the item in here (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)
  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Appearance: A shortened description of the item's looks with some notable features also mentioned.
  • Class: Refer to the Treasure Classification System in the Great Treasury.
  • Alignment: Refers to the objects' role in their story, be it those used by villains or used by the Player Character.
  • Theme Song (Optional): Not important as compared to Deity and Dominion profiles but a notable mention if there is an accompanying song in use with the object.
  • Museum Check: A note that says whether the item is viewable by the public.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the item.
  • Domains: Things that the item has links to.
  • Relationships (Optional): Unless the item has a connection with a specific deity, relationships are optional and may not be required. However, if there are deities linked to the same series as to where the item is linked to (especially the original owner of the item), note them using the relationships, this includes deities that theoretically have interest with said object, good or evil otherwise.
  • Add the Intro. Here the introduction of the Treasure is added with some tidbits regarding the origins of its' creation and usage in the story. You can also add what made it popular/iconic/important here.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Treasures is 7 at minimum to 12 at maximum.

[up] It was originally 300k bytes, though I was the one who suggested it be changed to 350k, though now in hindsight I think that the latter is too limiting of a restriction.

Are these profiles ready to ascend?

  • Avoids: The Houses of Magic and Sorcery, Mythical Creatures and Beings and Otherness, Metallia
  • Conflicting opinion towards: Hazel Levesque, Wildstar, Crystal and Medley Brook
  • The Dothraki people are a culture of nomadic warriors in Essos who range across the vast grasslands. Notorious invaders and plunderers, they are largely seen as barbaric for their general disdain of civilization, brutal pillaging and raidings of cities, and seeing buying and selling unmanly. That said they do partake in trade, often involving slaves that they send to Slavers Bay. Even after 400 years of interaction with the settled peoples they steadfastly refuse to give up their Barbarian Tribe ways, but that doesn't mean they lack cultural values and standards; they indulge in Runt Infanticide but take care of their sick and elderly, and they take their very horse-centric religious practices seriously. Their only city is Vaes Dothrak and their culture has a strong association with horses. A Dothraki marriage without a fatality is considered a dull affair.
  • Early on Daenerys Targaryen was married to Khal Drogo, a powerful Dothraki warlord as part of a scheme by her and Viserys' backers to lead an invasion force to retake the Iron Throne. Viserys "the Beggar King" made the mistake of pissing off Khal Drogo however before he could launch an invasion he died of an infected wound. Dany would end up with the Dothraki as her first step towards her plan to claim the Iron Throne and her journey across Essos, and they were her most ruthless faction. Needless to say, Robert was apprehensive and concerned about this, though he never had to deal with them because his wife, wine and a boar had other plans. While in the TV show some were able to integrate to Westerosi society following her crash-out , Westeros still understandably considers them a menace nobody wants to deal with. They didn't so much as ascend more so as invade, ready to join their Khaleesi. Appropriately they have claimed the Hordes from the East mantle, being a far-eastern nomadic group of invaders.
    • There is one Westerosi that was escatic to see the Dothraki...Gregor Clegane. The Mountain That Rides would never join them for a number of reasonsnote  but he does look up to them for their ruthlessness and brutality. Of course, with how bad of a person Gregor is and how unstable he is some Dothraki think he might be a bit too brutal. They would definitely be interested in testing his strength.
  • Their culture is heavily influenced by the Mongols. Asides from being eastern raiders, they are nomads and expert horse riders. However Genghis Khan himself is not too fond of this comparison. Yes, pretty much everyone agrees he was a brutal and fearsome conqueror, and the Mongols left a lot of bodies in their wake, but they were also remarkably egalitarian for the time. The Mongols were tolerant of other religions and women could have a significantly higher status than in Europe, which contrasts the incredibly misogynistic Dothraki. As such, he is not as impressed, though as this is still Genghis Khan we're talking about this is more the view of them being the Theme Park Version of the Mongols. While the Dothraki consider him, and by extension his Mongol hordes as rivals, they do respect him given the similarities. Another group they consider friendly rivals due to cultural similarities? The Spartans, of course! There's a mutual respect between their Khals and Leonidas, though the latter is able to be more reasonable with more civilized deities and feels they could treat their women better.
  • Despite Daenerys' position in the Dothraki it doesn't change the fact Dothraki culture is highly misogynistic. Yes, they can be affectionate with women like Khal Drogo with Dany, but they have a harsh Stay in the Kitchen mentality and women and girls in the warlike Dothraki society are expected to only serve as wives and mothers. They can be beaten, raped and taken as slaves with impunity, and Dany had to work to eventually convince Khal Drogo to be more equal in the bedroom to avoid Marital Rape License. Of course Drogo was still a rapist in war and Dany was underaged so it's more "comparably" affectionate. Rape, Pillage, and Burn is entrenched enough in their culture they see it as part of everyday life, though that's no comfort to their victims. Boudica hates the Dothraki due to her lands being invaded and daughters raped, and in her ruthlessness the Dothraki think she's quite impressive for a woman.
  • They aren't completely against women holding some position given Daenerys' status the Khaleesi, however they are otherwise unrepentant in their aforementioned misogyny. Due to her experience in a rather misogynistic culture Parvana Alizai has nothing good to say about them, though she's in no real position to do something about it. The Dothraki's practice of slavery has been mitigated somewhat by Daenerys Targaryen however she can't stifle that completely, and the horse lords have been seen by her supporters as more of a Token Evil Teammate faction. At the least, any attempt to do commerce with the Slavers and Immortan Joe has had the kibosh put on it. Immortan Joe and Gul'dan are interested in the Dothraki hordes, with the former noting their love of horses. He has a strong war horse motif, though he is Lawful Evil ultimately and if he can't hire Dothraki as soldiers he would rather just pay them to leave the Citadel be. It's more he likes their aesthetic than anything.
  • Rule of thumb is if someone was raped, regardless of their gender or who the perpetrator was, they're not going to have something good to say about the Dothraki. Because of how ingrained their Rape, Pillage, and Burn tactics are in their society, they legitimately don't get why most would believe that Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil. While they are not as vile as the goblins that the Goblin Slayer by virtue of still having some culture and lines they wouldn't cross and lack the overt sadism, he doesn't think they're marginally any better and is throwing hands with them if they come near him and his teammates. While they would never reciprocate anything from a Daedric Prince as vile, Molag Bal likes what they're going with their distressingly common usage of war rape, dominating other cultures and social darwinism. Shan Yu doesn't have any problems with female fighters and is marketdly not sexist, however he is also a brutal horse-riding nomadic conqueror and barbarian. He doesn't feel any obligation to work with the Dothraki but he does respect them. The feeling seems to be mutual.
  • Saying "they're horse lords" is kind of an understatement. It's more accurate to say they are obsessed with them and their Born in the Saddle culture. They worship horse-gods, their primary source of meat is horse, talk about practically everything in terms of equine metaphors, being able to ride a horse is a basic marker of social status, refer to what we call "doggy-style" as "horse-fashion", and most will have sex in no other way. Honestly the only way they could come more obssessed is if snide remarks on them being "horsefuckers" was literal...though they would consider such an act perverted in reality. They have a heavy interest in the Hall of Ungulates. Individual Dothraki have been seen trying to raid Spirit, so far to no success. Despite being repulsed by many of their practices Hazel Levesque totally gets the interest in equines, and while they look down on her for being female some Dothraki begrudgingly admit her talent in horse riding.
  • One major deterrent Westeros has against Dothraki invasion is their lack of ships and distrust of the sea, as their horses cannot drink it. The "Cannot Cross Running Water" rule is more of a suggestion, and not something they're forced to abide to compared to the Nuckelavee. Even without knowing just what it is and what it wants the Orcadian horseman terrifies them as a supernatural entity that looks like a man and horse fused together without any skin. For how overly macho the Dothraki are and how they are The Social Darwinist, they greatly fear magic, especially Blood Magic. They regard the Asshai'i (who are infamous for practicing dark magic) as "spawn of shadows." Because of this you rarely find them interacting with the most supernatural houses in the pantheon and possess a deep mistrust of them. They have a fear of the forces of Chaos and the Beastmen, which the latter find deeply ironic since the Dothraki hordes are similarly barbaric, if not as extreme. Their aforementioned concern about running water is why they avoid Metallia and her swamps.
  • Despite their nervousness around magic they aren't as apprehensive when it comes to the House of Religion and Faith despite many supernatural and otherly residents. This is because they are a rather spiritual people. For example, they worship the earth as a goddess and their mother, and believe it is sinful to cut into her by tilling her with hoes or erecting permanent buildings on her. Gaea, an actual earth goddess, thinks that's silly but hey, it's their belief system. They also believe the sun and moon are a married pair. Helios and Selene note "well no, we're siblings though with how our family is it's not an out of pocket belief to have". Despite their ruthlessness the Dothraki do practice funeral rites including burning the body on a pyre and sacrificing the deceased person's horse so that they may ride with their ancestors in the Night Lands. One of their cultural practices is that a warrior cuts his braid off if he's defeated in battle. The Hall of Hair Styles simply replied "no comment" to this practice.
  • With their love of horses, but fear of the supernatural, fantastic equines are something they are still interested in, but also conflicted over that fact. They are not as sure how to feel about unicorns, kelpies or centaurs, compared to the Nuckelavee who is just way too freaky and disturbing for them to acknowledge the horse part. The My Little Pony franchise is absolutely befuddling but fascinating to the Dothraki since they're mostly magical talking female horses...horses that primarily express disdain for them. The Dothraki are particularly interested in the archer Chiron, a half-man, half-horse who happens to have divine parentage; he's the illegitimate demigod of Cronus. Chiron is not a fan of the Dothraki due to their barbarism and savagery; most centaurs in mythology were similarly if not more barbaric and it's something he rises above. The Houyhnhnms look shamefully at the Dothraki culture for its rapaciousness and lustful behavior, believing they support their outlook on humanity. Some Dothraki that tried to invade their island ended up being made slaves of the equines, to their severe confusion.

Renly Baratheon and Loras Tyrell, Co-Gods of Personal Secrets Being Less So In The Adaptation (Renly: The King in Highgarden, the King in the South. Loras: The Knight of Flowers, Knight o Pansies, Ser Daisy, Renly's little rose)

  • Interested in: Cervine deities like Xerneas, and to a lesser extent Bambi (Renly), the Hall of Trees and Flowers, particularly Shaymin (Loras)
  • Allies

  • On speaking terms with: House Stark and their forces (both)
  • Unknown Rival: Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom (Renly; on his side)

  • Dismissive of: Zapp Brannigan (both)
  • Pities: Nico di Angelo (both)
  • One of the factions of the War of the Five Kings was led by Renly Baratheon. Stannis and Renly knew that Cersei's children were not actually their brother's and that they were next in line. However Renly at least thought he could sell the idea of being the better ruler. A handsome, flashy and charismatic young man with the largest army in Westeros thanks to his alliance with the Tyrells, he lacks malicious intent and finds the idea of a "rightful king" rather silly...this does not detract from his ruthlessness or naked ambition. His squire is the Knight of Flowers, Ser Loras Tyrell. With exceptional skill at swordsmanship and jousting he's a celebrity in Westeros and a Chick Magnet, however he bats for the other team. Renly and Loras have a secret relationship, guessed by the nobles but kept under the wraps due to the homophobic attitudes of most Westerosi. Loras' sister Margaery acts as The Beard in the relationship. While Stannis would rather his brother stand down and accept him as the rightful king, Renly had no intention. As such, he was eventually forced to have Renly assassinated via one of Melisandre's shadow monsters, a fact he is still upset about.
    • The death of Renly hit Loras hard. His family had made the pragmatic decision to marry Margaery to Joffrey while still very much playing the game of thrones with House Lannister, and Loras would end up as part of the Kingsguard. Of course Oleanna would never allow Joffrey to live past his wedding, but after her involvement with Littlefinger in the Purple Wedding House Tyrell avoided being implicated with Tyrion as the accused and Margaery was married to Tommen. Loras would still carry a torch for Renly, though in the TV adaptation he would find some solace in a man called Olyvar. However in the TV adaptation he ended up being a victim of the High Sparrow's schemes, being worn out and beaten down by the Faith Militant and forced to confess to his relationship with Renly and other men, and being co-erced into joining them. When Cersei's own trial was about to begin Margaery immediately knew they were in danger with her not showing up and tried to get them out of there. Unfortunately it was too late and they were at ground zero of Cersei's "burn the sept with Wildfire" Hail Mary.
  • Applies to both
    • Renly Baratheon had tried to make an attempt at the Trope Pantheon under the trope of The Usurper, only to eventually be kicked out. In some netherrealm or pantheonic limbo the spirit of Renly met up with the man he loved, eager to see him again; Loras Tyrell. They denied being a couple when pushing through to return to the Trope Pantheon, only to realize that, since the Trope Pantheon is primarily based off modern 21st century morality and not Westerosi morality, no-one minds that they're gay and in a relationship. They pointed out that in the TV show, it's even less of a secret and pretty much everyone knows. Renly cited this as an excuse for him to return, but with his partner Knight of Flowers; ascending under the trope of Adaptational Secrecy Downgrade. Despite Renly's villainous traits, his dynamic with Loras is seen as sweet and sincere, and the two are welcome to the pantheon's Pride parade.
    • Stannis was at first livid and distraught to see his brother again. While Stannis is a lot less approachable than his younger brother, many would argue he's proven himself the better leader even outside of being the rightful heir. However others have argued that Renly would be better, which is helped by Game of Thrones where Stannis was considerably more ruthless and Renly more heroic. Renly planned to get even for his assassination, only for them to hear the bellowing of their older brother; Robert Baratheon. He was very pissed at Renly and called him an idiot for not siding with Stanns in the War of the Five Kings. However he also made it clear he does not want to see his brothers try and kill each other, and if the Baratheons are fighting each other their enemies will descend on them like a flock of wolves...not to mention they have a lot more mutual foes. For all his faults, Robert has managed to act as the peacemaker, filling in the various dynamics in their setting Renly and Loras will have to deal with.
      • As a whole they're enemies of House Lannister, since while Renly Baratheon isn't the rightful heir to his brother he's at least related to Robert unlike Cersei's kids. That said Renly is more an opportunist and aware of the fact, and thinks he's the better choice by way of talent and skill. Whether he has that over his brother is debatable, but against Joffrey? Yeah, no contest. After getting some more information about his assassination he and Cersei are livid at the whole House Tyrell, even more so with the latter, and as far as Loras is concerned any attempt to make peace was incinerated with Cersei's whole "burn them all with wildfire" plot. That said, Jaime and Tyrion Lannister are more mixed-neutral with the two. Gregor Clegane is still mad at Loras for humiliating him in a joust and now his handlers are enemies with Renly and Loras he plans to make him pay. Given how awful a person he is, he's clearly not a fan of the Mountain anyway.
      • There's a bone to pick between House Targaryen and House Baratheon due to the actions of the Mad King, though it's mainly a spill-over of Robert Baratheon's wrath. Aerys II was a deranged king and Robert was one of many he wronged, however Renly was a kid at the time so it's not as personal. Similarly, he considers Daenerys Targaryen more of a rival claimant, citing that both Robert and Aegon the Conqueror weren't so much the rightful heir but became rulers via right of conquestnote . The escalation to enemies is because of her crash out in the TV adaptation. Personally Renly wants to get back at Melisandre after being informed that she was personally behind his assassination and Loras wants to get back at the High Sparrow for his homophobic abuse of him and causing all sorts of trouble for his sister. Of course one could argue Renly had it coming, since while Affably Evil he did plan to usurp and kill his brother without any remorse because he was power-hungry, though following Robert pressuring his brothers to make an armisitice and focus on the bigger issues he's decided to comment.
      • Like pretty much everyone in Westeros, they're united against the Night King, someone they would've laughed off if it weren't for hearing the later stories from the North and House Stark. During the War of the Five Kings Renly was fine with Robb being the King in the North so long as he'd recognize his planned kingship as the greater authority in Westeros. The couple are relatively neutral on them. Despite all the things that have happened Brienne of Tarth still has a positive relationship with both, as while there was some smack talk in private, Renly does appreciate and respect her instead of demean her for her gender. She had a crush on him, though he doesn't swing that way. Loras had some more issues with Brienne as he had accused her of assassinating Renly due to being there in the rather supernatural way he was killed, however Renly convinced him to hear her out and show she wasn't remotely involved.
      • Renly is comparable in some ways to his many times great-uncle, Daemon Blackfyre. They're ambitious and popular rivals who fought their brother for what most would consider their rightful position as king only to be taken out by a sneaky and underhanded means. Both justify and are believed by some to be the better man. However Daemon tries to legally justify by claiming his half-brother Daeron II was actually his cousin due to Aegon IV's brother sleeping with their sister, though this largely believed to be naught but rumors by Aegon the Unworthy out of petty jealousy towards his brother and son. Renly doesn't pretend he's not a usurper, instead believing he should succeed over Stannis due to being better at the job. With these similar circumstances the two are on relatively good terms, though they do acknowledge a degree of irony as Renly is the direct descendant of Daeron the Good.
    • Jaime, Stannis and honestly anyone who knew them personally knew they were a couple. They of course couldn't be totally open about it, though, so Renly and Loras are naturally going to be sympathetic to those that had to hide in the closet. The couple look fondly on Jack and Ennis as these star-crossed lovers who had to deal with a time that discouraged their homosexuality. Renly Baratheon and Loras Tyrell have their own ambitions so they're not so much allies as supporters, but they act cordially to the gay cowboys. As previously mentioned they are involved in the pantheon's pride parades and are generally supportive of LGBTQ+ groups. Despite Renly being a Corrupt Politician he is hardly depraved like Buck, who Loras muses "is one creepy motherfucker". They respect Luz and Amity along with Julio and Shatterstar for their positive representation of homosexual relationships. The two feel bad that Nico got forced out of the closet.
    • Unsurprisingly, neither are fond of homophobes. For the most part, they will leave them alone and vice versa as it's not worth the beef, though given the abuse of the High Sparrow to Loras Renly feels he needs to get personally involved in giving him a peace of his mind. While his main bigotry is focused on the gypsies Judge Claude Frollo is about as tolerant to gay relationships as you'd expect, and is flippant that the upper echelons of Westeros and those close chose to not care too much of it being an Open Secret, especially in the TV series. Renly can't help but be reminded of Aerys' "burn them all" plan with Frollo's own scorching of Paris and while a shameless opportunist and attempted kinslayer, he finds Frollo unsettling. Queen Maeve (more specifically her TV incarnation) and Loras ended up talking during the latter's boyfriend's beef, with Loras sympathizing with her frustration at being tokenized by Vought and suffering from bi erasure. Despite her cynical edge Maggie Shaw still wants to do good, which Loras admires and she came to like his personality, leading to him being an ally.
    • The two make an attractive and charismatic couple. In battle they wear expensive and stylized armor; pretty to look at an aesthetically great, though prone to being Awesome, but Impractical. The two like to show their fashion sense off at the House of Costumes. The couple have become quite impressed by the various medals and accolades that General Zhukov have gotten, along with the tactical brilliance of Admiral Thrawn. It's more of a general appreciation, mind you, and neither figures find Renly and Loras all that noteworth. On the flip side, Renly and Loras think it's ridiculous that Zapp Brannigan has as high of a rank that he does since he is way too incompetent for their tastes.
  • Applies to Renly Baratheon
    • The youngest of the Baratheon siblings, he's only a couple years older than Robert's eldest bastard. He lacks Robert's hedonistic love of food, drink and drugs and avoids the straight-laced stick in the mud ways of Stannis. Much like Robert, he passions for tournaments and hunts. Despite the armistice with Stannis, Renly still seeks to have some level of increased legitimacy; he's intrigued by the magnificent cervine Xerneas, due to the stag being his family's sigil. He is also interested a little bit in Bambi, due to the iconic status of the deer, though Bambi would rather avoid him as despite the Baratheon sigil it doesn't detract from them seeing deers and other cervines as something to hunt. At some point an arrow Renly used ended up hitting the Nowhere King...and he and his personell immediately ran. Booking it is pretty much the only thing he could do at the sight of that thing and both he and Loras are freaked out by the entity.
    • Renly Baratheon's greatest skill lies in charming and befriending allies. He sees himself as a Prince Charming, and Prince Eric admits that he definitely has the chops for it. Of course he could never be seen siding with Renly, however they do like to communicate with one another. It's an interesting dynamic where they don't agree with each other but they enjoy each other's company. He still thinks it's kind of funny that he would call himself a rival of Victor von Doom since Doctor Doom is a lot more dangerous even if we're ignoring his access to various magic, superpowers ect. Otherwise he is not all that popular in the House of Royalty, as while far from the most heinous with ties he is still seen as a usurper of the rightful heir. Those who fought for the claim or won people over by being the rightful king like Aragon and King Arthur see past his amiable demeanor for the Corrupt Politician he really is. Morgan Le Fey, one of Arthur's main enemies, is considered someone Renly Bratheon distrusts since the sorceress reminds him a bit too much of Melisandre for his tastes.
    • Initially he considered an alliance with Scar, as they're usurping brothers, however he considers that decision an Old Shame. Renly's shameless in his ambitions and his goals are seen by most as rooted in selfishness, but he lacks the cruelty of Scar and is usually quite personal. Having once been his follower is also something he sees as a mistake, and he doesn't intent to interfere with Pride Rock. He was excited to learn of the man Scar was based off-Claudius. Claudius is arguably a better ruler than the brother he successfully killed and overthrown, and is similarly Affably Evil. Renly admires his cunning and Claudius applauds his charisma, though he believes he should've been more cautious (ie; wait until after the war to stab him in the back). Hamlet is appalled by this turn of events, and doesn't buy Renly's excuse of being the better ruler since even if true he regards his plan to off Stannis as no less evil than Claudius' murder of his brother...heck, at least Claudius had the decency to feel some remorse over it, even if he refused to actually take responsibility for it. On another note, Julius Caesar doesn't like him, as he was betrayed and assassinated by someone he saw like a sonnote  and Renly betrayed his own brother.
    • If Stannis Baratheon is one of George RR Martin's takes on Richard the Third, and Robert Baratheon is a take on Edward the Fourth, it makes Renly Baratheon his stab at George, Duke of Clarence. Overshadowed and resentful of the prestige and reputation of his brothers, he rose in rebellion against the family by marrying into an enemy house, and was killed by his brother for his treachery. It's a comparison the Richard III saw a mile away, commenting "historians were kind to not accuse you of plagiarism, Martin". Richard thinks he is too close to his traitorous brother for his comfort...and yes, he is aware of the irony given his own reputation. Critiques of him would have you to believe that emnity is deflection, though as far as Renly is concerned if he's going to have beef with him he should Bring It. As a little bit of "friendly warning", he has told him to "beware of shadows". In that he is referring to Dark Link and the Vashta Narada, the former he finds particularly concerning while the latter he more fears because of the swarm's ability to hide in any shadow. Fortunately, they will not try and go after him unless hungry or their habitat is deforested. That doesn't mean Renly and Loras aren't understandably perturbed by the Vashta Narada, mind you.
    • Distrusts the House of Magic and Sorcery as it was magical means which Stannis used to assassinate him, in a situation where conventional means were probably not going to cut it. That being said, he is oddly amicable to the trickster and illusionist Loki despite his impressive use of magic. This is because he sees they have some things in common. They're the ambitious and charismatic younger brother (though Loki is somewhat more morally grey nowadays) that have a penchant for the color green, and great conversationalists. Of course, it probably helps that the god of mischief doesn't have ambitions that get in the way of his. Another friend of Renly's is Orm Marinus, another sibling rival who believes that they would make the better rule, though his relationship with his brother is more complicated and probably closer than Renly's is to Stannis or Robert.
  • Applies to Loras Tyrell
    • Third son of Mace and Alerie, Loras Tyrell is already a celebrity in Westeros due to his good looks and exceptional skill at swordsmanship and jousting. While he is courteous and honorable, he is also a hotheaded Glory Hound. He has the reputation of being a Knight in Shining Armor though his attempt to Dragonstone shows he has much to learn. While his fate in the TV show is sealed, his fate in the books is more in question; he is reported suffering boiling oil burns along with injuries from quarrels and maces and is reported dying, so even if he manages to survive he will probably say goodbye to his famous beauty. The wildfire that incinerated him in the TV show was green, which is one aspect of why he is afraid of the Outer God Tulzscha. The irony, of course, is that that green fire generates a clammy cold noxiousness...still no less deadly than wildfire, of course.
    • Like the rest of House Tyrell, he is associated with flowers. He has a cape adorned with flowers and is known as the Knight of Flowers. Loras ended up getting along with Kurama, as they are friendly flower-themed pretty boys, though roses are far from just a motif for Kurama. Loras Tyrell is quite fond of Angelo's aesthetic and heroic personality, and the two have a bit of a friendly rivalry going one where Loras tries to prove he's more of a Pretty Boy and capable of being a Chick Magnet. Granted he's not attracted to women as Angelo points out, so it's more of a light-hearted act of pride than anything. He is particularly interested in the Hall of Trees and Flowers, though he was taken aback by Flowey and Cagney Carnation even after picking up neither are truly evil, at least not anymore. The Knight of Flowers is particularly interested in the Mythical Pokemon Shaymin, as legend has they can instantly transform ruined land into a lush field of flowers, hence Floraoma Town.
    • Did not think he would take a lover after Renly's death. In the show at least he did find a casual lover in Olyvar, however the heartbreak from losing Renly was still there; getting to share a profile in the Trope Pantheon with his beloved was a dream come true. A knight pining for the loss of the one they loved...Pearl understood how he must have felt. Of course, Pearl's love for Rose Quartz was more of an unrequieted thing. With her skill as a guardian Loras ended up being fond of her, opening up to eventually just talk and discuss things with one another. Pearl thinks it's good for Loras that he and Renly are a cute couple, though she muses it must've been a bit awkward for him known his sister was supposed to be The Beard for Renly. Loras admits it's a bit weird out of context however he and Margaery have a good relationship.
    • Despite his arrogance and flamboyance Loras Tyrell aspires to be a good knight, and he has looked up to the famous Lancelot. Lancelot muses he had his own secret relationship, though this was more a straight up affair compared to Margaery being a consenting party in a "lavender marriage" as a consequence of Westerosi societal standards. Loras has a large dislike of another Agent Peacock, Griffith. Griffith has the ambition of Renly and then some, the beauty of Loras and is skilled political schemer, however his ruthless pursuit of reaching the top and making his kingdom lead him to do things Renly would find unconsciousable. Namely, Transhuman Treachery and rape, ascending to the godlike Femto and his series' Lucifer equivalent. The couple oppose him, though Loras especially as he sees him as a perversion of what it means to be a knight.

Done with Ulala.

Ulala, Goddess of Having Backup Dancers

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ulalakfnf.png
  • Lesser Goddess
  • Symbol: The Space Channel 5 logo
  • Theme Music: Different versions of Mexican Flyer; The Reporter from Space Channel 5
  • Alignment: Neutral Good
  • Portfolio: Action Girl, Going for the Big Scoop, Dancing Is Serious Business, Musical Assassin, Ms. Fanservice
  • Domains: Space, Music, Reports
  • Heralds: Fuse, Jaguar, Pudding, Pine, Noize, Roo & Kie
  • Allies: Sonic the Hedgehog, Amigo, Elite Beat Agents, Frank West, Lois Lane, Jade, Reiji Arisu & Xiaomu, The Jetsons, Emu Hojo
  • Enemies: Diana Christensen, Saya (Namco x Capcom), The Music Meister, Louis Bloom, Ember McLain, The Dazzlings
  • Ulala is a reporter for Space Channel 5, having been inspired to take up the job after being saved by a reporter from that station following a spaceship accident that left her as the sole survivor of such. Her determination in covering important stories and confidence in the face of danger has led to her uncovering plenty of space conspiracies throughout her career. The Morolian invasion and the brainwashing related to it was carried out by the Chief Blank, the CEO of Space Channel 5 and Ulala would later take on Purge, leader of the Rhythm Rogues who wanted to hypnotize the entire galaxy into dancing with him. No matter what’s being thrown her way, Ulala has been able to bring out the dance moves to save civilians under the control of her foes and investigative skills to thwart these devious plots to become Space Channel 5’s star reporter.
  • What was originally another day at Space Channel 5 in finding a strong news story to tell ended up bringing Ulala to a planet that she hadn’t discovered before. Said planet ended up being where a distress signal was coming from as it was under attack by some aliens that were threatening to drain it of all of its dance energy. It didn’t take long for Ulala to step in and bring her moves to defeat that threat and get that story set in stone. Given how she had never been to that planet before, Ulala was given a tour of it once the dust had settled and after being told that the planet was part of a Pantheon project that was being carried out by several prominent figures, Ulala was given an opportunity to have her line of work be a part of it. She was more than willing to accept that offer as not only did the Pantheon offer plenty of stories for Space Channel 5 to cover, but she had been used to dealing with dangerous adversaries while covering the news and there were plenty more enemies out there that Ulala knew had to be stopped.
  • In her spare time outside of journalism and news, Ulala has been a regular participant for some of Sonic’s racing contests with his friends and other Sega characters. Besides getting along with the Blue Blur, she has also found a similarly musically-inclined friend in Amigo, a monkey whose tastes in music leans more to the exotic end (though with some mainstream variety) compared to Ulala’s more pop-based inclinations. That hasn’t stopped them from getting along and Ulala taking part in some of Amigo’s dance sessions during some songs. Given how much dance played an important role in powering things in Ulala’s world and how objects such as buildings come to life whenever Amigo gets his groove on, she has been sometimes wondering to herself just how much dance energy Amigo has, but it’s not something she’s too worried about.
  • On the topic of dancing being a powerful tool to solve problems, the Elite Beat Agents ended up being of interest to Ulala for plenty of reasons. They were able to strike up a friendly rapport with each other and found some of the problems they dealt with to be striking in a number of ways. The EBA found it disingenuous that someone like Purge would try to use dance and make others uncontrollably groovy to accomplish a dastardly goal while Ulala pondered to herself if there really was something going on in the EBA’s world that required enough musical willpower to get through multiple problems. She would learn that the EBA were acquainted with others that had a similar function as them and both parties are willing to work together, whether it’s just Ulala and the EBA as a team or with the EBA’s other contacts, and dance their way to solve a problem that others are facing.
  • As someone who is willing to put themselves in the line of fire for both a good story and to save innocent lives, Ulala has managed to find great friends through other journalists who have done similar actions. While she was already familiar with Frank West thanks to working with him as a result of a dimensional rift that had several other people involved (which was also how she was able to be part of a lengthy group of friends that Reiji Arisu and Xiaomu can rely on in case someone like Saya, arch-enemy of the Agents of Shinra is causing trouble), she managed to find additional help through the likes of Lois Lane and Jade. Lois Lane getting caught up in big adventures as a result of hanging out with someone as influential as Superman was one thing, but Jade had a story that struck a chord with Ulala just as well. While Jade apparently hasn’t traveled across space as much as Ulala has when it came to finding a story, fighting a horde of aliens that was willing to drain the life force of others is no small feat, especially given how much more deadlier it is than simply going for dance-related schemes.
  • Chief Blank being responsible for the initial Morolian invasion for the sake of ratings made Ulala aware of how far some are willing to go to be more famous. As over-the-top as that plot was, there were plenty of news figures in the Pantheon who were far more unscrupulous in their actions despite being more closer-to-earth in what they do. Diana Christensen was someone who Ulala saw as worse than Chief Blank given how she is willing to control the news at UBS for the sake of ratings and bringing stories that are often meaningless drivel on the air. Louis Bloom’s murderous tendencies and how much he is willing to manipulate things to get his story, combined with his partnership with Diana, made Ulala see him as someone who gives journalism a bad name and didn’t deserve to be working in such in her opinion.
  • Music can be a powerful tool under the right circumstances and given how Ulala took on Purge to stop his groove-inducing plans for the galaxy, it was only a matter of time before she found other foes that were musically-inclined. That many of these adversaries such as The Music Meister were capable of controlling others through music only made Ulala more determined to stop them, but the motivations of some of them didn’t sit well with her. The Dazzlings all thrive on chaos and disharmony to strengthen themselves and Ulala’s journalistic instincts have led to her finding out that this devious trio of singers were responsible for some incidents she came across while touring the Pantheon. Ember Mclain was someone who relied on being popular to become stronger and given how Ulala is a well-known dancer and journalist, this caused the ghost to attack her and made Ulala upset at how someone is willing to take advantage of popularity to pull off nasty plots.
  • It’s one thing to force others to dance against their will, but it didn’t take long for Ulala to learn about far worse brainwashing plans that other nefarious evildoers have carried out. Whether it’s designing a mind-control trinket like what Jervis Tetch has done or people capable of using hypnosis to force others to commit heinous acts against their will, it didn’t take a whole lot for Ulala to see just how much worse brainwashing can be in multiple ways. While she did find out that a few have altered the minds of others for noble reasons and the notion of such is an interesting topic for a story, Ulala isn’t sure how to feel about it. Ulala has gone after the villainous deities focused on brainwashing during her line of work to prevent another mind control-induced calamity from striking.
  • The funky neon-colored dance-filled world Ulala came from was just one of several different kinds of intergalactic settings and she would end up finding more while traversing the Pantheon. While some had plenty of strife and complex matters going on, others shared a similar colorful vibe even if dancing isn’t the norm in these locales. The Jetsons come from a future where just about everything is automated and while they seem content going on with their day-to-day lives, they have sometimes been pulled into bigger adventures where the fate of the galaxy is at stake. Ulala heard about Judy from the EBA and how she had a hand in helping a music superstar stop a baddie from getting rid of music entirely. Elroy was curious about the inner workings of having everything in Ulala’s world powered by dance, but it ended up being something not to think too much about according to Ulala. In any case, the Jetsons don’t mind her and Judy has tagged along with Ulala and the EBA as a backup dancer for some of their missions.
  • Ulala decided to be a reporter for Space Channel 5 after being saved by a reporter from that station. Only a handful of people have based their career paths on being saved from someone and Emu Hojo was another person who fit that criteria. While Emu is a doctor instead of a reporter and saving lives was much more of a requirement for a doctor rather than a reporter, Ulala was taken in by Emu’s kind heart and focus on saving the lives of his patients as much as she was drawn to the reason why he wanted to be a doctor. That both have fought against unusual, yet deadly enemies while doing their job only added to their friendship.

[down] Since Crowd Song is about a crowd singing, she could move into Singers and Performers.

[down][down] and [down][down][down] Is that an approval for Ulala or moving Giselle?

It looks like Ulala will be replacing Giselle, but one of her tropes is "Crowd Song".

Which hall would that trope belong under?

@ Phantom Fire: Sorry, I meant Prince Charming. Fixed it in my profiles, now that they're up

Speaking of ASOIAF, in the vein of my plan to merge Cersei and Joffrey's profiles I am contemplating combining Roose and Ramsay's profile under Flaying Alive. "A naked man has few secrets; a flayed man none." says Roose. The tradition of House Bolton, both as an intimidation tactic but also because a lot of them are sadists, is skinning prisoners and other victims. Their house sigil is a flayed man. Ramsay does it largely for fun and Roose is implied to still skin people behind closed doors. House Bolton also keeps the preserved skin of their enemies as trophies. They're one of the least morally ambiguous factions

[up] Probably Heirs.

Think I'm done with Mariko (unless anyone has any further suggestions). Accepting [tup]s.

"She is splendid. Conceals herself against the sun. Conserving energy, waiting for her moment."
Lord Yoshii Toranaga

Toda Mariko, Goddess of Spiteful Suicide (Lady Maria, Lady of Steel)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shogunmariko.png
  • Potential Hall: Suicide and Sacrifice
  • Rank: Demigoddess
  • Symbol: Her Rosary
  • Alignment: Neutral Good
  • Portfolio: Abusive, Misogynistic Husband, Death Seeker, Not Going Gently in Spiteful Suicide, Kirishitan, Onna-Musha Wielding a Naginata, Lady of Steel, Modeled on Hosokawa Gracia, Falls in Love with Blackburn, Steely Nerves, Tactful Translator, Formerly Close with Ochiba
  • Domains: Duty, Faith, Naginatas, Suicide, Translation
  • Herald: John Blackthorne
  • High Priest: Vholran Igniseri
  • Allies: Amakusa Shirou Tokisada, Momiji, William Adams, Hanshiro Tsugumo, Friar Tuck
  • Enemies: Ishida Mitsunari, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Judge Claude Frollo, Aegon the Unworthy
  • Complicated Relationship: Akechi Mitsuhide
  • A graceful, composed noblewoman who is wife of one of Toranaga's highest-ranked vassals. Very loyal to her lord, Mariko serves as his translator, determined in her service to Toranaga and in freeing herself from her sentence to live. Raised as a daughter and samurai woman of the Akechi clan, Mariko married into the Toda family when she came of age. After her family was massacred, Mariko turned to Catholicism and became educated in Portuguese and Latin. When the English pilot John Blackthorne washes ashore Japan, Mariko is thrust into a political maelstrom and finds the opportunity to fulfill her goal.
  • In her final moments Mariko stood in front of the heavy door as Ishido's men blasted their way through, calmly accepting her death through which she put Ishido into a lose-lose situation while warmly thanking Blackthorne for everything. Mariko woke from what seemed like a peaceful sleep to find herself at the gates of the Pantheon. Here she was informed that part of her soul was ascended for the act in which she chose to die in front of Ishido's men's explosive, protesting Ishido's treachery with her last words. The fulfillment of her long desire to die through which she called out her lord's enemy and became a martyr contributing to his defeat earned her the title of Goddess of Spiteful Suicide. Upon learning this Mariko couldn't help but slightly smirk, a break in her usually composed demeanor, finding further fulfillment in her moment of death.
  • Mariko is a devout Catholic, finding comfort in the faith of the Portuguese after her family was massacred as punishment for her father's assassination of the warlord Kuroda Nobuhisa, taking the baptismal name of Maria. Deeply faithful despite the growing wariness of foreign countries in Japan, Mariko was able to willingly die while adhering to her Catholic values that consider suicide a mortal sin by taking a last stand and shaming her lord's enemy. Maintaining her faith in God even in ascension, Mariko often arrives at the temple of Amakusa Shirou Tokisada. She was surprised to learn that in his era in Japan, only decades after hers, there was heavy persecution and taxation of Japanese Catholics by the shogunate which led Tokisada to lead the Shimabara Rebellion. Learning of his loyalty to his faith, Mariko did not doubt why he was called "Heaven's messenger" and considered a saint in their home country. Tokisada welcomes Mariko to his domain as a fellow Kirishitan, often holding sermons together.
  • Like many samurai women of her era, Mariko trained in fighting with the naginata spear, her skill winning her many competitions in her home of Azuchi Castle. Her training served her well before her ascension, using the spear's length to keep katana-wielding soldiers out of reach and slice at their vulnerable points with great finesse. Upon ascension, Mariko continues to hone her wielding of the naginata as an onna-musha of her time with Momiji, Goddess of Naginata-Wielding Maidens. Mariko was surprised to learn when first meeting Momiji that she is a Miko, with women of her Japan not fighting let alone serving as kunoichi. Nevertheless, both women get along due to their shared polite natures, honing their weapon mastery together should their inner steel be needed.
  • Meeting Akechi Mitsuhide was very perplexing for Mariko. Mariko herself reminded Mitsuhide of his daughter Gracia, one of the most famous Catholic noblewomen in Japan's history who refused to commit suicide because of her faith, breaking the code of conduct imposed on samurai women, and was killed when attempted to be taken hostage, and Mitsuhide of her father who betrayed his liege, leading to the establishment of a new rulership of Japan. Mariko was able to have a civil, pleasant conversation with him until the evil Mitsuhide surfaced and gleefully boasted about his sadistic murder and betrayal. Even then, Mariko the Lady of Steel wasn't perturbed, for in death she had finally made peace with her father's betrayal of his lord, and a reminder of that act no longer kept her bound.
  • Taking a walk through the Hall of Samurai and Rōnin, Mariko had the pleasure of meeting William Adams, an English sailor part of an expedition from the Dutch East India Company who arrived on the shores of Japan, becoming a key advisor to the shōgun Tokugawa Ieyasu and the first Western Samurai. Given the Japanese name "Anjin" by Kanbei, his background and role within his version of Japan reminded Mariko all too much of John Blackthorne, the English pilot she fell in love with before her death. Adams however was much more stern and quiet compared to the crasser Blackthorne who often spew out insults against Portugese Catholics on top of being a yokai slayer and divine user of onmyōdō magic. Regardless Mariko was grateful for the encounter with Adams as a reminder of Blackthorne, happy to have fallen in love with an honorable man after years of being in an abusive marriage, shortly before her death.
  • Mariko was all too familiar with the act of harakiri as a highborn woman of feudal Japan, with her nephew-in-law committing it after disgracing his lord, taking the life of himself and his lineage in his baby son. Within her Hall there was a man of a time shortly following hers, the ronin Hanshiro Tsugumo, God of Seppuku. After achieving revenge against the li clan for the death of his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson he committed harakiri in defiance in contrast to the chosen kaishakunin he had defeated who refused to commit harakiri to atone for their failures, fighting off samurai and turning his blade against himself when they were forced to bring out guns to kill him. Mariko understood Hanshiro's sentiment as the last of her family herself and wanted to die if not for her controlling, abusive husband. As people of the same cultural era, they could understand that as members of the samurai class within a country that faces the constant threat of death in earthquakes, tsunamis, war, etc., the idea of a "meaningful" death is important and there is significance in choosing to die with honor and contribution to a cause, an idea that can seem hard to understand to many deities within the Pantheon from countries outside of Japan.
  • Through her ascension was Mariko able to gain a broader perspective of Catholic followers beyond what she knew from the Portuguese missionaries who came to Japan. Like many more pleasant Catholics within the Pantheon, Mariko was similarly disgusted by Judge Claude Frollo, whose rigid adherence to Catholicism ties into his hypocrisy and fanaticism, blaming his lust for Esmeralda on God for letting the Devil make him tempted and wanting to commit genocide against the Romani in Paris for blaming them for the city's corruption, seeing himself enacting God's will. Instead of being willing to be humble and repent, he continued on his religiously hypocritical path until his death. Through Frollo Mariko can see why some Japanese of her era could be wary of men of religious power in these countries trying to spread their influence in Japan, Mariko still held on strongly to her faith, whose tenets of charity and justice helped her through her family's death.
  • In contrast to Frollo, Mariko did encounter an altruistic devout Catholic in the Pantheon – Friar Tuck, God of Catholic-Based Christianity, a kind and devout soul who cares for the poor and stays true to the Catholic Church's teachings and ways. In ascension Mariko continues her devotedness to her faith, attending Friar Tuck's sermon in his Temple. Mariko was surprised to learn about Friar Tuck's church in Nottingham, having thought that the English were enemies of the Catholic Church from the Portuguese missionaries who converted her and other Japanese. Further conversation revealed Tuck comes from 15th-century England, years before Mariko's time in the 16th century after the Protestant Reformation in England. Mariko was interested in learning more about how the conflict between the British and Portuguese came to be, better understanding the squabble between Blackthorne and the Portuguese in religion. Regardless, as a religious follower Mariko was happy to have found a fellow devout upon ascension, with the kind Friar Tuck happy to welcome her into his community.
  • Mariko suffered long under her marriage to Buntaro due to his coldness, misogyny, physical abuse, and demand for respect from her despite his vile behavior. It is for this reason she's appalled by displays of misogyny, with one of the worst of ascended deities in mortal life having been Aegon IV, who forced his wife Naerys to sleep with him just to hurt her out of spite and practiced a motto of "Wash Her and Bring Her to My Bed" with many women. Finding out more about the infamous misogyny had Mariko appreciate even the Japan of her era, which allowed women of the samurai class to train in combat as part of their duties, unlike Westeros where noble women are treated like chattel and expected to only be mothers. Mariko once said, "I will give my husband nothing, because that is what he merits." Mariko's words have garnered agreement among many other women in the Pantheon for they could all agree an unworthy man would deserve nothing – none of a woman's emotion, time, and energy without any respect.
  • "Accepting death isn't surrender. Flowers are only flowers because they fall."
