Trope Pantheons Discussion

Go To

Welcome to the Trope Pantheons thread! Please read the rules:

    Rules
Rules. The following are not suggestions or tips, but things that have to be followed:
  • When writing a profile, take note of the following:
    • The very first thing any contributor should do before working on an idea or a profile is to propose and nominate the idea on the Trope Pantheons discussion thread. In the forums, you must discuss with other users on adding ideas and seek their approval with sound reasoning, a paragraph of reasoning to justify taking a trope should be sufficient. This is done to see if your proposal is the best representative and so, in case your profile is turned down, you do not waste time writing something that others might not find suitable. You can also get some assistance in the forum thread by either asking for help and those interested asking if they can help. Attempting to work on ideas without a nomination and at least one net thumbs-up will not be accepted regardless of how much you have written already. Submissions that are added without discussion are likely to be deleted and those who violate those rules by adding Pantheon content without discussion will get reported to the mods.
    • If you feel the need to remove a character for some reason (poor quality, outdated titles, etcetera) and replace him/her with another or outright rework, please see what the other tropers think about this in the discussion thread before doing anything hasty. For reworks in particular, nominate the idea as you would with new characters or profiles. Use good reasoning to see if your idea can easily replace the character present without drawing out your statement or giving too ambiguous claims most do not understand.
      • In the same vein, if you adopt a profile from another troper, it is recommended that you make an announcement that you have done so on the discussion thread. More often than not, a trope that was reserved for something was given away to someone else. Check the Related tab on the top of a page to see if a trope or character has been reserved by a user, either in the Pantheon or the Sandbox sections.
    • If, for whatever reason, you are writing about a God who just happens to be a person in real life, just try to be very careful about what you decide to say. Do not try to make the editing seem too meta (self-referential) and use the creativity to create hypothetical scenarios towards fictional characters. Some real-life individuals, including content creators (fictional content created by them is still fair-game, but do not bring up the creators themselves in such cases), may be considered disqualified for profiles due to controversies that would make them concern the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment. To determine where a current creator would be disqualified:
      • Wait for at least a month after the latest significant update for a creator's controversy before any decision can be made. If a confirmation from the questioned creator (or associates) themselves occurs, then wait for a week.
      • Immediate disqualification for either a guilty sentence in a significant court case against the creator, or evidence of consistently repeated, deliberate, and/or intentionally provocative hate speech and advocacy of dehumanizing perspectives, with lesser examples warranting caution instead.
      • For creators with a clear persona of their character disclosed before any scandal, the persona can have a profile with no mentioning of their real-life information. Ambiguous existence of a persona would have to be discussed further hand for anything more decisive.
    • For obvious reasons, gods cannot be followers, high priests, or heralds. The 'gods' have ascended meaning there is no need for said character to be a follower of another if they have ascended.
    • No hype profiles, please. 'Hype Profiles' are profiles that have been made out of ongoing events and have not been around for a long time. This creates 'hype' due to popularity and certain elements either through certain scenes, memes, dramatic acting or considered overly awesome. They are not bad tropes but building a portfolio solely for that is a bad idea, as they do not say a thing about representing the trope best (unless it's those trope concepts that they are trying to embody for a long time)
      • You can see one if the profile is only showing off how awesome they are or suddenly pushing how 'significant' they are thanks to the just very recent events rather than respecting the longstanding good representations of the trope. And usually having... minimum portfolio or flavor texts and being a bit too generalized or self-contained to events from within their home series instead of interacting with other Pantheon members.
  • When posting in the forum, take note of the following:
    • When you suggest a God, please explain why they fit the trope. Not everyone is going to understand just "X should be the God of Y because they exemplify the trope" off the bat, especially if they're unfamiliar with the work.
    • You must use the Trope Pantheons discussion thread in the forums if you wish to add a new deity, story, something else of importance to the Trope Pantheon canon, or reworking an existing deity (be it simply improving their existing profile or changing their title).
      • For new and reworked deities, 3 [tup] means the profile will have a one-week waiting period.
      • For new and reworked deities, 4 [tup] is a 3 day waiting period.
      • 5 [tup] is an automatic ascension for new and reworked deities.
      • Speaking of reworks, for anyone that wants to improve such profiles, they have to review the current trope the character(s) has and see if it still holds up or if there is a better rep for their trope.
    • For adding new Treasures to The Great Treasury or new Dominions to the Dominions Expansion, the following rules apply:
      • For new Treasures or Dominions, 3 [tup] is a 3 day waiting period.
      • 4 [tup] is an automatic addition to the Great Treasury or Dominions.
    • Do not repost a profile in the forums more than twice a day if noticeable changes have not been made in between. If a profile is posted a third time in a row without noticeable alterations, it will be downvoted. This is so spamming of no-effort profiles is less frequent and to prevent tropers from getting aggravated seeing the same profile over and over. The minimum acceptable change has to be one flavor text.
    • The Pantheon is not a mouthpiece for you to voice your opinions on certain characters. You may like certain characters more than others, but do not make the mistake of making profiles for characters you like to look like Character Shilling.
    • Every troper new to the Pantheon is barred from approving or downvoting profiles until they have ascended at least two profiles, this means avoiding the usage of "[tup]" or "[tdown]".
    • Do not include fan reception in any profiles. It has nothing to do with the character themselves and will create unnecessary conflict.
    • Write a detailed explanation on why the character is the best candidate for the deity of that trope. If people disagree with you, do not force it on the people.
    • Keep in mind that if you still want to try to find a trope for a particular character, you are only given three chances to find a particular trope for them. If a suggestion goes past three possible tropes, then it will come off as shoehorning a character into the Pantheon just for the sake of that character to be there.
      • On a related note, even if a character does have a free trope being suggested, there is still a limit of three attempts for suggesting that character for that trope. If no one responds to that certain proposal after being posted three times, then it will get to the point where the idea will be seen as being shoehorned into the Pantheon. In addition, the idea needs to be considered acceptable and approved because they are good, not for the sake of pitying others. After all, no one is responding to their idea.
    • You can also adopt a profile or idea to work on from another contributor by messaging a request to them (preferably through private messages). Even if you get their permission, you still have to announce your adoption to the forum. Note that if the idea wasn't nominated in the first place you still have to properly nominate it.
  • When posting Pantheon related stuff to the wiki, take note of the following:
    • Do not put a link to these Pantheon pages into the main wiki page. The moment you want to note in a trope example that the character is a God of this trope, do not do it. If you see leftovers of this practice, correct the situation by deleting the offending text. This goes for any non-Pantheon page. The only exception to this rule is if a page in the Pantheon could be confused for a page in Main, like Good Colors, Evil Colors and Pantheon.Good And Evil Colors.
    • Do not bring things that would incite fights; hot topics and 'urgent' news are not pertinent to the Pantheon's mission. For example, the political scene and some really bad politicians. We are not here to fight each other, so don't suggest things that go in that direction, this is a fictional Pantheon after all.
    • To add a Pantheon page for a certain work, 4 or more characters coming from the same series/franchise should be ascended before adding the page. For Creator specific pages, 4 deities coming from the same creator and 2 individual work pages coming from the same creator is the minimum to warrant a page.
    • Do not create a trope page for a story until the story is fully completed.
    Instructions and Tips
Here are some tips one should keep in mind when editing:
  • When writing a profile for a character, here are a few things to note:
    • Please refer to Text Formatting Rules when writing a profile, since understanding how to make and edit site pages in general is a necessity for working on profiles or other Pantheon content. Additionally, if you are not experienced with English, refer to this forum page, as proper English spelling and grammar is expected.
    • All deities should be sorted by their divine ranking. Put Overdeities on the top of the page and Quasideities on the bottom. Also, be sure to add them in alphabetical order by their first/given name (can be reversed if it is Eastern ordered). For a group, if there is no official name for them all list down all their names by order of relevance or (if too long to list) title them as Insert Name Here Main Characters or some other identifiable title along the same lines.
    • The maximum number of tropes that a god can have is two, but do not try to abuse that fact. If you need to use a second trope to specify a certain thing about their position, that can be excused either because said character represents their trope choice very well alongside the first trope. It is still generally encouraged to only have one trope.
    • A trope can only belong to one profile at a time. The only time two profiles can share a trope is if there are explicit variations listed in the trope page proper (e.g. Muscle Angst is held by both Biscuit Krueger and Chihiro Fujisaki as the former represents "Too Much Muscle" and the latter represents "Not Enough Muscle")
    • If the character you are about to add to a House already exists in another, make sure to mention that this person has spots in another House as well. Up to 2 places can be made for a deity at most.
    • For a character's theme song, try to avoid calling it "Theme of God X" or "Theme of (Show where God X originates from)". If possible, try to find out if the song has an actual name through research. Most importantly, it has to be part of their series' official soundtracks from the media. Do not list songs that are made by fans or outside sources. If they were not specifically used as music for that specific character, then they do not count. Furthermore, it has to be a general theme specifically made for that characters' appearances, not some generic music that plays for many other instances not related to the character in question.
    • For images, when adding an image for your chosen character, it is highly recommended to use a stylized image that embodies the character or renders that also highlight a character's behavior (such as cool poses). Most images should be from the main adaptations of the character unless the images from the other media are of a higher quality than the adaptation. Unless it is needed, do not use fanart for images. If you are, please attribute it to the original artist. Due to the website's dark mode, removing white backgrounds from an image is paramount. This website is suggested to do the background removal. If an image you have takes up too many bytes, it is suggestible to use this site to reduce the byte size. If the byte is still too big, run the compressed image through other sites (or even the same one) to compress even further. Use wikis to look for better images, as even wikis for the series might not contain good official images.
    • Creativity is your friend. While it is not recommended to get too ditzy at your ideas, it is best that when writing a profile for a certain character, do you think of capable scenarios between X and Y. Tip: do not use shallow examples (X wields a sword and Y wields one too) and try to think of relationships that make sense (i.e those characters that are shout-outs for another).
  • Pantheon Content:
    • Some series or genres will eventually have greater representation in the Pantheon than others. This is unavoidable, but a little diversity helps to make you not look like a shill. Try to ensure that if you add a deity from a popular series, make sure that it is because they are a good representative for the trope in question, and not just because they are connected to another deity in their respective canon.
      • As far as deities from actual mythologies, there is generally an expectation to build the profiles off interactions from fictional portrays rather than basing it entirely from the actual myth. Therefore, a mythological deity should be more of a Composite Character whose main identity is from the actual myth.
    • Occasionally there will be Gods that carry a title without a trope. This is not forbidden, but it is well-advised not to abuse them. The only house where trope-less profiles are wholly allowed is the House of Food. Mainly due to most food items lacking tropes, and adding tropes about said foodstuffs is slightly unnecessary. However, the character being ascended for their choice of food, or food-related thing must be a decently good representative of said item. (i.e their Trademark Favorite Food, or something that they are closely associated with In-Universe, or both).
    • For Dominions and Treasures profiles, always consider what made those places/objects popular in the first place. Were they plot-important, identifiable imagery or have a unique aspect of it? Do not just bring regular objects under the basis of following a certain canon.
    • Do not write in self-promotion or blatant advertising. Minor references to something are fine but writing that clearly intends to advertise something will not be given toleration.
  • For Profile Standards:
    • Flavor text is used to describe certain things about a character, place, or object. To avoid short ones, it is recommended to write flavor text with 4-7 sentences that can fill around 2 lines each. Be warned that adding too many sentences does not equal good flavor text as it is not an essay of sorts (unless words are substantial and do add to the overall line).
    • Character Profiles of a certain person should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 7 (at the minimum) tropes describing their character.
      • Flavor text count for a deity profile should have by minimum, 10 (depending on if the character in question has enough relationships/characterization) to 15 with a maximum of 20-25 for an individual profile.
      • On the other hand, group profiles (profiles of a group that has 4 or more members) have their maximum flavor text count to 15 minimum, giving individual lines for the other members of the group (unless the members are not as characterized) up to 30 at max.
    • Dominion profiles of a certain place should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 5 (at the minimum) tropes describing the context of the place.
      • Flavor text count should range at least 10 to 15.
    • Treasure profiles (inanimate objects without a trope) should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 6 (at the minimum) tropes that describes the object itself.
      • Flavor text count should be at least 7 flavor text up to 12 to constitute a treasure profile.
    Divine Ranking System
  • Overdeity: Omnipotent-level Reality Warper deities capable of manipulating the entire universe (or at least the world) at will. Within their own universe they are believed to be omnipotent, or at least impossible-to-completely-destroy embodiments or concepts.
  • Greater Gods: High-level Reality Warper deities that are extremely powerful (capable of destroying or changing anywhere from a large city to a planet at will) and very strong non-reality warpers capable of doing the same thing.
  • Intermediate Gods: Deities at this level are capable of strong but specialized powers such as hydrokinesis, pyrokinesis, etc. without major drawbacks and low-level Reality Warper beings capable of affecting their immediate area at will.
  • Lesser Gods: Capable of highly specific or little power on their own, or suffer from Power at a Price. However, they may be able to ruthlessly exploit their power or combine it with just being badass enough to make up for it.
  • Demigods: Badass Normal citizens of the pantheon, making up for their lower status with strength, strategy, and/or planning.
  • Quasideities: Any otherwise normal human, human equivalent, or below without any special powers or training will fall here.
    Templates
Template for adding a new deity: God X, God/Goddess/Deity of (Insert Trope Here) (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)
  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Rank: This can range from Quasideity, Demigod, Lesser God, Intermediate God, Greater God, to Overdeity, based on the representation of power mentioned above.
  • Symbol: An image or icon used to represent the deity.
  • Theme Song: Official song (in other words, no fan music, regardless of quality) that usually is used in affiliation with the character. If the deity is a musician this will most likely be their Signature Song. If possible, give a link for reference, preferably on either a website like Soundcloud or YouTube.
  • Alignment: Good, evil, neutral, etc. Forget about The Great Character Alignment Debate here; the Pantheon is one of the few places where you can assign Dungeons & Dragons alignments to characters that don't have an alignment system. After all, the Pantheon is based on D&D and is made for fun.
  • For Pokémon deities only:
    • Gender: Defines the gender of the Pokémon; if genderless, it instead defines what gender they identify as.
    • Ability: Provides the Pokémon's ability. If they can Mega Evolve, the new ability is listed as well.
    • Moves: Defines the four moves used by a Pokémon. A Z-Move may also be listed.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the character.
  • Domains: Things that the character has influence over.
  • Herald: Non-ascended loyal character that is from the same series as the ascended character.
  • High Priest: Non-ascended like heralds, but not from the same series, and can serve as a worthy replacement in case the deity would be unavailable, incapacitated, dead, or otherwise incapable of carrying out their duties. They can be served as part-time workers in case the originals are busy with some jobs. Co-Godhood is accepted depending on the approval of the originals, usually if the co-deity is from the same series.
  • Followers: Non-ascended characters that are not part of the Pantheon, but would probably worship this character by the fact that they share the ascended character's trope.
  • Relationships between ascended characters go here with your chosen character, it goes something like this:
    • Allies: Members of the Pantheon that are allies, those that share the same values as them and would theoretically be friends with them.

    • Rivals: Members of the Pantheon that are rivals, people who may look at your character with suspicion or a challenge.
    • Enemies: Members of the Pantheon that are foes, those who would see your chosen character as a threat, either from their perspective or yours.
    • Additional Character Relationships: Members of the Pantheon that do not fit in various relationships (examples include Enemy Mine, Vitriolic Best Buds, Teeth-Clenched Teamwork, Headbutting Heroes, Friendly Enemy, Friendly Rival, Just Friends, etc.), allies, rivals, or enemies.
    • Partner: Defines a partnership with an ascended deity and Mon-type. (if any)
    • Feared by/Fears: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon notably fear or are feared by.
    • Respected by/Respects: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon respect or are respected by.
    • Opposed by/Opposes: Not necessarily the same as "Enemies", but this is used for any deity whom the members of the Pantheon directly oppose or are opposed by (basically the opposite of "Respects", "On Good Terms With", and/or "Commonality Connection") in terms of certain viewpoints, regardless of alignment.
    • Pitied by/Pities: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon feel pity for or are found pitiable by.
    • Conflicting Opinion: Sometimes, the Deities argue over specific themes and philosophies.
      • OPTIONAL NOTE FOR CHARACTER RELATIONSHIPS: Should the list for Character relationships (IE. Allies, Enemies, etc.) become too big, categorize a certain number of characters to a specific group putting them on a sublist (One example: Luigi is from the same world as his brother Mario, hence Luigi should be fall under the Super Mario Bros sublist.)
  • Add the Intro. The intro is made up of two trivia, the Ascension Text (or just the Ascension) and The Bio. Both are necessary, but which order you use for them may vary depending on the profile in question. It may be better for one profile to have The Bio first and the Ascension second or vice-versa, although for the most part, the order is irrelevant:
    • The Ascension Text: This is the story of how the character got into the Pantheon and/or was ascended. There are many ways for this to happen. They may be tricked into it or have simply wandered into the Pantheon, they may have had an already ascended character bring them in, they may already be in the Pantheon (via being another deity's Herald or sharing a trope) and got "promoted", or some combination of the above. Anything is possible in the Pantheon, so use your imagination, but try to incorporate their trope into the story, if possible.
    • The Bio: A brief synopsis of the character's backstory. No need for the character's entire life/production history, but just give enough that those who don't know the character can get an idea of how the character works.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Deities/Characters is 10-15 (15-20 for group profiles) at minimum to 20-25 (30 for group profiles) at maximum.
Template for Dominions profiles: Place X, Place of (Insert Trope Here) (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)
  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Theme Song (Optional): Not important as compared to Deity and Dominion profiles but a notable mention if there is an accompanying song in use with the object.
  • Alignment: Refers to the dominion's role in their story, be it those used by villains or used by the Player Character.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the dominion.
  • Domains: Things that the place has links to.
  • Relationships (Optional): Unless the location has a connection with a specific deity, relationships are optional and may not be required. However, if there are deities linked to the same series as to where the dominion is linked to, note them using the relationships, this includes deities that theoretically have interest with said dominion, good or evil otherwise.
  • Add the Intro. Here the introduction of the Dominion is added with some tidbits regarding the origins of its' creation and usage in the story. You can also add what made it popular/iconic/important here.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Dominions is 10 at minimum to 15 at maximum.
Template for Treasure profiles: The name of the item in here (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)
  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Appearance: A shortened description of the item's looks with some notable features also mentioned.
  • Class: Refer to the Treasure Classification System in the Great Treasury.
  • Alignment: Refers to the objects' role in their story, be it those used by villains or used by the Player Character.
  • Theme Song (Optional): Not important as compared to Deity and Dominion profiles but a notable mention if there is an accompanying song in use with the object.
  • Museum Check: A note that says whether the item is viewable by the public.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the item.
  • Domains: Things that the item has links to.
  • Relationships (Optional): Unless the item has a connection with a specific deity, relationships are optional and may not be required. However, if there are deities linked to the same series as to where the item is linked to (especially the original owner of the item), note them using the relationships, this includes deities that theoretically have interest with said object, good or evil otherwise.
  • Add the Intro. Here the introduction of the Treasure is added with some tidbits regarding the origins of its' creation and usage in the story. You can also add what made it popular/iconic/important here.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Treasures is 7 at minimum to 12 at maximum.

  • Conflicting Opinion: Morgan le Fay, Grace Monroe

  • Cedric was the son of two prominent sorcerers but an incident when he was younger when he botched a spell in front of the royal court caused a chain of events that stunted his abilities in magic and his confidence, and he slowly decided that he would do anything in his power to be noticed. Being the Court Mage to the royal family of Enchancia didn't help, especially since King Roland couldn't help but rub it in his face over his failures. His life changed when he met Sofia Balthazar and how she was given the Amulet of Avalon. If only he had it, then Enchancia would be his! There was just one teeny problem: Sofia's unwavering kindness towards him. From the get-go, her compassion made his heart waver at every single turn, and he always tried to excuse his failures that he has another chance. That and his numerous plans to get the amulet kept backfiring in his face, whether due to his incompetence, the amulet refusing to do what he pleases, or how he refuses to hurt Sofia. Slowly but surely, he would eventually come to realize that power and recognition was nothing compared to seeing Sofia hurt from his betrayal when he got his hand on a Medusa Stone. It was her words stating that he was so much better than he gave himself credit for that gave him the strength to change, which was cemented when he helped defend Enchancia from the likes of Vor through the use of the Amulet of Avalon and finally given the name "Cedric the Great". But that was nothing compared to him returning that amulet to Sofia, as he fully treasured their friendship more than power.
    • Cedric was working on some spells when he was suddenly given an invitation by Clover. Going through the contents, he could only cry "Merlin's Mushrooms!" in shock at what he was given: an invitation to the Pantheon! He immediately flew on the first pegasus-drawn chariot to the gates, where he was met with Princess Sofia, who was glad he got the invitation to become a deity. Cedric was unsure if it was okay, but upon understanding that means he gets more time to be with his close friend, he graciously accepted the offer. Of course, this did mean that the original holder of his seat had to step down, but Cedric suggested that Inugami can still be his High Priest. As for heralds, he immediately invited his family to his ascension party, to which his parents wrapped him in a hug, his sister smirked, and his niece was so proud of her Uncle Ceddy.
  • The first deity Cedric went to visit was none other than his inspiration, Merlin. Merlin just had a knowing smile on his face upon seeing Cedric, proud that the sorcerer helped defeat Vor using the power of love from all of Enchancia to save Sofia. Merlin has now asked Cedric to help him train his apprentices when he's too busy with other projects. Cedric immediately agreed and then fainted in happiness.
    • The first apprentices were Jack and Annie of Frog Creek, two kids who could travel through time/other worlds through books or an invitation to other lands via their treehouse. Cedric asked question over question as to how this was possible...but became confused when he learned that the creator of the treehouse was Morgan le Fay. Then things got more confusing when he learned that Morgan le Fay's alignment is ever shifting: neutral some days, evil next, good comes later. Jack and Annie some of the few gods Morgan le Fay shows a kind spot towards and she reassured him that she will protect her apprentices if need be. Cedric nodded but decided to stay away from her for the time being.
    • The second apprentice was Merlin's grand-daughter, Merlina, who he had learned wanted to keep Camelot frozen in time so it didn't wither away. Cedric could understand that she had good intentions under her actions and worries that one day, he and Sofia will no longer be friends. Sofia just told him that they will take it a day at a time, and no matter what, she always will see Cedric as her closest friend.
  • One of his jobs is to teach magic in the House of School and many deities find him to be an amazing teacher. His secret is that he tells his students to never give up until they get it right, something that his teacher taught him as a child. This made him bond with Atsuko "Akko" Kagari, a young girl who never gave up on her dream of being a witch even with the knowledge that her mentor accidentally drained her of her magic because she realized that taking the easy way out would rob her of her growth. He also bonded with Palom and Porom for their use of spells despite being kids, but he gets along the most with Porom given how he ended up becoming a magic teacher. He was on frosty terms with Chariot du Nord for a while when he learned she's the reason that Atsuko was unable to perform as a mage but he could tell that it was never intentional and he helps out with her classes when Chariot has a busy schedule. He also notes how Diana Cavendish reminds him a lot of Princess Amber — they do have cold fronts but actually have kind hearts and a desire to truly help people and sees her as a model student.
  • Naturally, as his Heel–Face Turn formed by being friends Sophia, he was welcomed in the Friendship and Camaraderie House. He was given a warm welcome by Gentaro Kisaragi, to which they performed their signature handshake. Cedric was quite amused that Gentaro was powered by friendship, but what shocked him the most was how Gentaro died at the hands of Ryusei Sakuta in order for Ryusei to obtain a cure for his close friend, who had been sent into a coma. Cedric was horrified. Yes he wants to take over Enchancia. Yes, he would concoct schemes to let him take the Amulet of Avalon. But in no way, shape, or form would he go as far as to murder Sofia for it! Gentaro said that Ryusei earned the error of his ways and Ryusei atoned for his sins. Sofia has even encouraged Cedric to start befriending Ryusei, to which Cedric agreed...albeit quite nervously. Cedric then learned that there were Kamen Riders who used magic, which lead him to Haruto Sohma and Kosuke Nitoh, who use magic through magic rings and being contracted to a Phantom. Cedric then asked how one became a Kamen Rider in that sense, to which they replied that one has to hit the Despair Event Horizon but then resist it or else the host dies and the phantom takes over. Cedric wisely decided that he should stop his pursuit there.
  • Was fascinated how many species could harness magic, particular the likes of the My Little Pony deities. Unicorns, and Alicorns by extension, are capable of casting numerous spells with levitation being their most basic form. This is how Cedric bonded with Twilight Sparkle, as they have many things in common: a love for the color purple and learning how they become stronger through the magic that was friendship. Other MLP deities he bonded with were Rarity, for how she has spent time designing his new robes, and Fluttershy, for how her kindness was able to reform Discord not unlike Sofia's kindness changing him for the better. He and Sofia have tea parties at Fluttershy's cottage once a week. He does find Angel Bunny to be more of a handful than Sofia's rabbit, Clover, though. He also became wary of both Queen Chrysalis and Tirek, who shun friendship and would be quick to use him before throwing him away. He especially hates Queen Chrysalis as she's a reminder of Vor, brainwashing others only to feed off of their love. Queen Chrysalis tried to impersonate Sofia in order to feed off of the friendship they had, but she made the mistake of stating he should use the Amulet of Avalon to see if it will boost his strength. Cedric immediately knew something was off; he was no longer the man who wished for power. One quick spell later and Queen Chrysalis was thrown out of his temple.
  • His friendship with Sofia was reminiscent of two pairs of deities with Intergenerational Friendship. The first one being the deities of this trope, Jade Chan and Tohru. The second being Wreck-it Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz. It was through the kindness and interactions of the younger girls did Tohru and Ralph learn to open up (especially in Tohru's case; he's not happy to remember how he tried gutting Jade like a fish) and realized that they didn't have to be the "bad guy". Cedric is grateful to have tea with Tohru as he's become interested in the magic spells Tohru has learned as a Chi Wizard, which lead him to the doorstep of Uncle Chan to learn how to improve his repertoire. Uncle agreed to take Cedric as an apprentice, seeing as the sorcerer had a lot of potential in him. Ralph also learned that he doesn't have to play the "bad guy" thanks to Vanellope's faith in him. Cedric is amused that he and Ralph ended up befriending a princess.
  • Through the Disney Princesses, he learned of Master Xehanhort wanting to obtain the Princesses of Heart, remarking that Princess Sofia's victory over Vor would mean she qualifies for that role. Naturally, Cedric will not let anyone hurt his dear friend, and he's willing to throw himself into battle to protect her. This also lead him to getting magic practice through Donald Duck and learning how Donald is considered The Archmage of the Disney gods...to his utter disbelief. How was Donald Duck a competent sorcerer? Donald cleared his throat and proceeded to squawk one word, ZETTAFLARE!!!! Cedric watched in horror at the destruction Donald left in his wake, only uttering a weak "Merlin's Mushrooms" before fainting.
  • Cedric's story of redemption was similar to that of Zuko's, the key difference is that Cedric didn't fully betray Sofia's trust when given the chance to petrify her with a Medusa Stone (nor did he try to attack her like Ozai did to Zuko). Zuko admits that what he did was not worth the praise and recognition of his father, and that Iroh was his true father-figure this entire time. The same can't be said for Zuko's sister, Azula — if she had one friend, would she have been a better person? Turns out Azula did have friends — Mai and Ty Lee — and even they couldn't do anything to make Azula change her ways. There are those, as he's learned bitterly, who refuse to become good no matter how many times you try to reach out to them...such is the case of Simon Laurent, who was traumatized when a cat he bonded with ran away while they were chased by Ghoms and he latched onto someone else's words to save him. But he refused to move on from the trauma and went as far as to killing others which is where Cedric drew the line. Simon doesn't care as Cedric became too "soft" by believing in the love and friendship of Sofia. And then there was the fact that he, and his old friend Grace Monroe, brainwashed children to following their ways in hurting others and murdering those non-human onto the wheels of the Infinity Train. Cedric never manipulated Sofia or any of the children he interacted with and he certainly would not teach anyone to kill another. Grace admitted that she's no longer that haughty "I know how to survive the Train" expert she boasted and just wants to work on herself to become something better. Cedric did offer her to have tea with him when she's ready.
  • Loathes Emperor Belos with every fiber of his being. An entitled witch hunter who fashioned himself as a "hero" but didn't care about murdering his kin and then creating loyal clones before slaughtering them just because they started rebeling made him nauseous. It'd be like him killing his own sister for the traumatic incident that caused him to be ridiculed as a child. Emperor Belos once tried to tempt Cedric with a seat at the table, to which Cedric shut him up with this speech.
Cedric: Oh, so you want me to be someone who hurts, kills, my loved ones for a taste of power? You want me to turn my back on my family, on Sofia, to be respected? I'm already respected as a great sorcerer and a loyal friend. My family loves me for who I am, my friends put their strength in me. What do you have in the end, Emperor? If your brother could see you right now, he would be ashamed at how far you have fallen. Take your offers and shove them down that gob you call a mouth. And if I find you within a foot of Sofia, I will end you.
  • Was a bit sad that he wasn't given a seat for Court Mage, but he decided to become friends with Kamek who they share many simlarities — notably never getting respect from their respective kings, but King Roland eventually realized how insensitive he was while Bowser continues to mistreat Kamek and the Koopa King rarely listens to his advice. Kamek admits that Cedric showing kindness to him is pretty rare and appreciates his company, with both of them having a truce that they don't interfere with each others' enemies.
    • Is considered the Good Counterpart of Jafar: both of them had lofty positions in the court — Cedric as Court Mage and Jafar was Royal Vizir — but wanted to rule the kingdoms for not getting any respect, even having a snarky bird as a partner. However, Cedric changed thanks to Sofia's kindness, whereas Jafar became a being with phenomenal cosmic powers and itty bitty living space. Even more amusing is that Cedric's crow, Wormwood, would stay evil, while Iago decided that he would end up with Cassim. In Iago's words, Cassim is "a good guy, but not too good". Cedric is glad he never found a genie's lamp; he'd rather not be someone else's slave, thank you very much.
  • While he's not fond of the villainous Disney deities, he does sympathize with Bowler Hat Guy as they also were traumatized from an incident when they were younger (Cedric and his botched spell and Bowler Hat Guy not catching a baseball in an important game) except Bowler Hat Guy had no family to support him whereas Cedric still had a family of his own along with Sofia's kindness. He knows what holding a grudge can do to a person, and Bowler Hat Guy allowed his bitterness to nearly let bowler hats take over the world. While Bowler Hat Guy is redeemed, he's still not sure what he wants to do with his future. Cedric has decided to be a partner in that regard, as he himself has so much to do in the vastness of the Pantheon.
  • Cedric should consider himself lucky that he wasn't really "evil" as some of the more depraved sorcerers in the Pantheon. Top of his list is Shinji Matou. He would sympathize with the boy for how he is unable to be a mage...if it wasn't for the fact that he's an abusive jerk whose actions would make Cedric wish for an amnesia potion stat. He's made sure to have extra protection for himself and especially Sofia. The only reason Shinji wouldn't go after Sofia is because she's too "young" for his tastes and because her allies would beat him to a pulp if he even tries. He also dislikes Ultimecia for her end-game; while he sympathizes a little that witches in her world were persecuted, he does like to point out she kinda brought this on herself in trying to avert her fate. Ultimecia does not want the words of a pathetic sorcerer to tell her what she did wrong.
  • Sofia decided to have Cedric meet up with a friend of hers: a princess who wore red and fought with a sword. Cedric was surprised to learn Princess Elena made it to the Pantheon, before Sofia shook her head and introduced Cedric to Adora, to which he sheepisly apologized. Adora doesn't mind; she honestly does like learning about the princess who was trapped incide the Amulet of Avalon for decades. Cedric was awed to learn of the sword that lets Adora transform into She-Ra and how she bravely defected from the life she once knew through force of will and opening her eyes to the truth. Cedric also loathes how Hordak treats his underlings, making him no different than the likes of Vor. Hordak is just more amused as to whether or not he can chip Cedric to becoming one of his minions.

[up][up]Hop Pop has quite a few similarities with Cedric, as he also became less abrasive and secretive as the series went on, and he also has similarities to Cedric's vitriolic best bud Stan Pines, so that could cause further interaction, especially with Hop Pop's "eat the rich" mentality.

The Millennium Items

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sennenitems.png
  • Votes: 3 (Excessive-Menace, Rmpdc, neoman)
  • Date of ascension: 22 May (repost 16 and 19 May)
  • Hall: Artifacts Library
  • Appearance: Different golden items, almost all identified with an eye symbol
  • Class Level: 4
  • Museum Check: Cleared
  • Alignment: Neutral Good and Chaotic Evil (the Millennium Puzzle and Ring respectively). The other items are True Neutral with potential for evil
  • Portfolio: Artifact of Doom, The Result Of Sacrificing a Village, Shadow Games, Ancient Egypt
  • Domains: Magic, Sacrifices, Souls, Darkness, Gaming, Mystery, Curses
  • Soul Jar for: The Other Yugi/the Nameless Pharaoh (the Millennium Puzzle), Dark Bakura/the Spirit of the Millennium Ring (and by extension, Zorc Necrophades) (the Millennium Ring)
  • Deities that have wielded the item: Yugi Muto (the Millennium Puzzle), Ryou Bakura (the Millennium Ring), Pegasus J Crawford (the Millennium Eye), Marik Ishtar and Dark Marik (the Millennium Rod)
  • Source of interest: Edward and Alphonse Elric, Van Hohenheim, Father and the Homunculi, Lord Voldemort, the D'arby brothers (in general), Bender "Bending" Rodriguez (the Millennium Eye), Isis (the Millennium Necklace), the Phantom Thieves, Razputin Aquato (the Millennium Key), Ammit, Osiris, Anubis (the Millennium Scale)
  • The Millennium Items date back over 3000 years, commissioned by the pharaoh Akhenamekhanen to protect Anceint Egypt from an invading army. Made by his brother Akhenaden, these seven items had various powers, all sharing the ability to perform the dangerous Shadow Games. Their creation was soaked in blood, however; the 99 residents of the thief town Kul Elna were sacrificed to make them. This was the Start of Darkness for the Thief King, and it's what allowed the monster Zorc Necrophades to begin his scheme to cover the world in darkness. The Nameless Pharaoh sealed the darkness away, and eventually the items would be dug up in the modern day.
  • Applies to the artifacts as a whole
    • Following the passing the Nameless Pharaoh true name Atem, the items were buried deep underground...at least until Kaiba dug them up as part of his scheme to have one last, definitive duel with his rival. He refuses to go into detail as to how that went, instead having Kaiba Corp make a delivery of the Millennium Items to the Great Treasury. Interviewers attempted to get an answer for why but he wasn't available for an answer. The only thing known is that before the overhaul of the treasury they used to be artifacts in the pantheon, but were removed in the overhaul for some beauacratic reasons. The current display is supposed to have all seven, but the Millennium Ring is almost always missing from it because it is taken/linked to Yami Bakura. The Millennium Puzzle is normally on loan with Yugi, due to its ties to the Nameless Pharaoh. While the other Millennium Items can be loaned to other deities, permission is required and they are items not to be trifled with.
    • Created from blood sacrifice following instructions of the Millennium Spellbook, together the seven items have the ability to summon Zorc Necrophades to the mortal world. Their ability to initiate Shadow Games and dark magic associated with them gives the items great potential for evil, though except for the Millennium Ring none of the items are evil persay. A comparison could be made with the Fullmetal Alchemist with how the Philosopher's Stone is made, except the Items don't contain still-screaming souls. The Elric brothers and their father are trying to make sure Father and his homunculi don't try to pilfer the items, and make sure if the Spellbook is ever ascended it's kept lock and key to make sure nobody tries to make more Millennium Items. There is a rule against using the Millennium Items in the House of Gaming to prevent any Shadow Games, and even outside of that their abilities would allow someone to cheat at the games. The D'arby brothers think it's a silly rule given their own abilities are similar to the Shadow Games, and despite everything they've done their position in their house is secured.
    • According to Shadi three items (the Key, Scale and Necklace) represent justice, three items (the Ring, Rod and Eye) are weak to evil and the Puzzle represents both evil and justice. Because of their dark background and potential for evil they're of interest to the GUAE and the GUAG. Also, their dark history has been yet more fodder for Linkara's jokes about how Ancient Egypt is evilnote . They're of more interest to the House of Magic and Sorcery, mainly because the various members of the house are seeking to use their powers for good, ill or just because they're useful. The House of Death and Postmortem, namely its Psychopomp leaders, feel they should keep an eye as all together the seven Millennium Items are a necessary part in allowing the other Yugi to move on to the next life.
    • Before being put in the Great Treasury Jack Spicer tried to take them to have a leg up on his and the Xaolin Dragons' rivalry to obtain other mystical artifacts; in their case the Shen Gong Wu. Both parties are wondering what kind of stuff they could do by combining their power with Millennium Items; for example, wearing the Millennium Necklace and the Crystal Eyeglasses could give the wielder near perfect prescience. The Symphogear wielders have been comparing them to Relics, ancient weapons and objects created through the lost art of heretical technology that inspired many myths and folklore, and their own gear is sourced from fragments of those relics.
    • The items do not respond well to the unworthy, usually killing them (sometimes worse). Indiana Jones was pretty Genre Savvy in treating the Millennium Items gingerly, emphasizing that they belong in the pantheon's museum and should be kept in the Great Treasury. Any discussion with him that they should have their power combined with another artifact just frustrates him. Some D-Class schmuck was given a test to bring the Key near the Ark of the Convenant, which ended with him and the foolish researches who ordered it becoming pillars of salt...who'd have thought the Abrahamic God wouldn't like these blood sacrifice Egyptian relics near the Ark? Ahkmenrah has stated that he wants them to be kept separate from his Tablet as he's wary of how they might affect another Egyptian magical artifact.
  • Applies to the artifacts individually
    • The Millennium Puzzle and Ring are unique since, as already mentioned, they contain the spirits of people. The Puzzle is notoriously hard to solve in large part due to Yami Yugi's influence and has a more general purpose of enhancing skill, accessing and protecting from magic. There are brilliant minds in the Houses of Knowledge and Science who can solve it faster than Yugi did, however the Nameless Pharaoh will only aid them if he wants to. The Ring can find what the wielder is looking for like a compass, but benefits are outweighed by the malignant evil in the item. Even without Zorc or the Thief King, it's still corruptive. Voldemort was fascinated by these items since they work as a sort of Horcrux variant, though the abilities and how they function as "horcruxes" is somewhat different. He doesn't intend to steal them because he can't make a horcrux over something already "occupied" like they are, but it has inspired him to try and steal the other Millennium Items and make them horcruxes. Zorc is intrigued by this since it could allow him to influence Voldemort, but he and by extension Yami Bakura refuse to let him co-opt the artifacts.
    • The Millennium Eye lets you read people's minds. Admittedly useless for telepaths like the Martian Manhunter unless you want to play a Shadow Game, but pretty useful for anyone wanting telepathy. It's only got two downsides. One, if someone can pull a Memory Gambit like flipping between different personalities they can cheat the system. Two, it requires an empty eye socket. This wasn't a problem for Bender that time he managed to steal the Eye, calling Pegasus "a lightweight meatbag" as he could just unscrew one of his eyes and plug the artifact in. He freaked out a bit when he saw the spirit of the Countess de la Roca, much as how Pegasus saw a vision of his lost love, but got over it. Bender almost won a big poker game until he went up against Fry, who's mind still couldn't be read even with a magic artifact. The Eye was later recovered from a nearby trash can, vigorously cleaned, and returned to the museum.
    • The Millennium Rod has perhaps the most potential for evil since not only is it used for mind control, but it also has a sharp end to stab people with. Marik set up a rumor that it can only control people named Steve and can be used as a lightsaber, but no-one really bought it and he admitted he made it up for a lark. However, strong enough Heroic Willpower can allow one to break out of control. The Hall of Mind Control wonders if their own techniques could somehow enhance the item. Death Phantom muses that compared to his own power of Mind Manipulation, it might as well be glorified metal, but Jervis Tetch thinks it's a neat secondary means of control and looks fashionable. There was a test to see if it could entrance someone already entranced by the Hypnotoad; it succeeded, but the Hypnotoad simply stared and mind controlled
    • The Millennium Necklace's role was formerly used by Ishizu Ishatar, and way back in the day her previous life Isis. No, not the goddess, she just happened to share the name. The actual goddess is interested in it, but more as a glorified piece of jewelry as her own divine powers overshadow the Necklace. It's main ability is to see the future, and also the past. However it still has its limits, and its abilities are obscured by other millennium items. Though Ishizu never had any intent to use it for Shadow Games, if she ascends she still cannot be expected to use it in the House of Gaming as it could be seen as a form of cheating. How effective the Necklace is can fluctuate wildly; tests from the House of Prophecy shows it's highly effective in deterministic settings but useless in ones that break fate. Anyone wearing it within the House of Time and Temporality will suffer a migraine due to the conflicting laws of time inevitably present there.
    • The Millennium Key stands as the only Item to lack the eye symbol on it. It allows you to unlock and enter somebody's mind. It's comparable to what the Phantom Thieves and Razputin Aquato are capable of, however Yami Yugi's amnesia caused his mind to come off as some labyrinth. Some poor Arkham guard tried to use the Key to enter the Joker's mind in order to figure out what was wrong with him, only to be lost in a maddening MC Escher-esque carnival. Perhaps he should've been found as unworthy by the Key.
    • The Millennium Scale is perhaps the least explored of the Items, and like the Key was primarily in possession of the enigmatic Shadi. can weigh a person's sin against the Feather of Ma'at. While extremely evil hearts like Yami Bakura and probably the Joker too overwhelm it, most wicked souls can expect to face the wrath of Ammit eating them. Anubis has dryly mused that the Millennium Scale is basically a knock-off of the Scales of Justice he and Osiris use to judge the dead, jokingly wondering if they should sue for plagiarism. Judgement Bird muses it is fairer than the scale he possesses. Well, his used to be fair, but when someone pointed out the possibility of it never leaning toward one way the scale was rigged so it could always yield a clear verdict: guilty, and the execution method was lynching. The Millennium Scale tends to twitch whenever the Judgement Bird is near.
      • Upon further research the Scale might not be a knock-off; about a decade later the goddess Ma'at showed up with all of them in her possession. Anubis has re-evaluated his comment and concluded the Millennium Scale is more like an officially recognized tribute to the original Scales of Justice than anything.
    • The Pyramid of Light and Quantum Cube are considered by some unofficial Millennium Items, but aren't listed in the canon seven so they aren't officially listed in the Great Treasury. The former is basically an in-universe knock-off of the Puzzle that got co-opted by the sorcerer Anubis for his own purposes, also acting as a Soul Jar. The actual Anubis is embarrassed by the whole thing since he doesn't like some Generic Doomsday Villain giving him a bad name. The latter is "semi-official", and can send others to another dimension where they're doomed to disintegrate. Some SCP Foundation agents argued it should somehow join the canon seven, only to sheepishly admit it's yet another scheme to terminate SCP-682.

  • Suguroku Muto (or Solomon Moto if you're watching the English dub) is the grandfather of famed duelist Yugi Muto and owner of the Kame Game shop. In his youth he was an archeologist who visited the Valley of the Kings in hopes of finding the tomb of the Nameless Pharaoh aka Pharaoh Atem, being the one to find the Millennium Puzzle, though he was never able to solve it. Interestingly, in a past life he was that pharaoh's Grand Vizier, Shimon Muran, and wielded Exodia. Suguroku is a skilled player of games and a gambler who rarely lost, though one of the few times he did it led to him wearing overalls and retiring. Now he's content running his game shop, and serving as a mentor for his grandson Yugi. Occasionally he has gone out to play Duel Monsters like dueling with Jonouchi in KaibaCorps Grand Prix. He's a close friend of Rebecca Hopkin's grandfather Arthur, and she initially tried to challenge him for a duel to get back his Blue Eyes card. However the two eventually patched things out and befriended him and Yugi.
  • Yugi's grandfather was minded his own business, taking care of his shop on a quiet day where there weren't many customers. Everything seemed normal until he opened his mailbox and discovered an invitation to something called the Trope Pantheon. After the VHS tape Pegasus sent led to his soul getting stolen he was suspicious and asked Yugi if he knew if a trick was afoot, only to be informed that it was the same thing he and many of both his allies and enemies had joined. As a character defined by their familial relationship to another character, he was under consideration for the trope of Satellite Family Member. Suguroku may be in his seventies but he's not technologically blind and quickly adapted to using TV Tropes. His temple is Kame House, technically part of the House of Family and Relatives but functionally part of the House of Gaming as that's where his revenue comes from. For deities wanting to play Duel Monsters he's usually the one to check if they're looking for a more humble and friendly game shop. At his age he isn't ready to go on big adventures, though he is penpals with the retired adventurer Old Buran. You can find him in the Monster Sanctuary training new adventurers, which is what piqued Suguroku's interest.
  • He had met Judai/Jaden and friends "the long way round" at his card shop where even in his eighties he still was as chipper maintaining his shop. He helped guide them through the city in return, but unfortunately he got kidnapped by Thunder and Frost. Jaden and his friends managed to find and rescue him, and he gave them some hamburgers for their trouble. Overall, Sugoroku is generally friendly and doesn't hold a grudge, though he's still somewhat sore around Seto Kaiba and Pegasus; the former beat him and destroyed his Blue Eyes card, leading to him going to the hospital, and the latter stole his soul as part of his scheme. He's on speaking terms with them because they ultimately turned a new leaf, but they're otherwise neutral. Ultimately he only really opposes the unrepentant villains who threatened his grandson (and the world, given the scope of their plans). Yugi's grandfather is on really good terms with Exodia, interestingly enough. As mentioned, his previous life in Ancient Egypt had Exodia as his ka, and he used to have Exodia in his playset.
  • He's been trying to catch up with the protagonists of Yu-Gi-Oh series 5Ds and beyond, studying their adventures so he can better understand the later Duel Monsters meta. Yes their series are either far enough in the future he's probably passed of old age, and/or a different timeline altogether, but since he owns a Duel Monsters game shop he wants to be informed. He got some help with the updates and suggestions on how to boost sales from Aldo and Arnold. They were raised by their grandparents and are generally kind-hearted individuals, so they were happy to help. The two like swapping stories with the old man whenever they visit the shop for gaming accessories. Sometimes he can be seen visiting the Cabbage Merchant to pick up cabbages, musing that he sounds like his friend Uncle Chan.
  • While he's retired from the archeology business, he still knows his stuff about Egypt and has stories to share with other archeologists. Him and Indiana Jones have become good friends discussing their past adventures, though Suguroku readily admits Indy has seen a lot more than he was able to. Him and Simon Petrikov are also friends, the latter having been an antiquarian who had studied some magical artifacts...sadly he spent the better part of a millennium driven crazy by one of them. With all the things he's seen of the Millennium Items and Shadow Games, he wasn't exactly surprised to learn the Egyptian gods were all too real in the Trope Pantheon. He's become quite interested in learning more about them, alongside the many pharaohs present asides from the Nameless Pharaoh. He's especially interested in Ahkmenrah, a Chummy Mummy who was brought to the land of the living thanks to a magical Egyptian artifact...he reminds the old man of Yami Yugi.
  • Suguroku's shop being called "Kame Game", basically translating to "Turtle Game", reminds a good amount of people of Muten Roshi. There's more than a few similarities between them; both are old, wise mentors of the protagonist, though Roshi has more of a role as the mentor, and they're both perverts. This isn't as obvious with Yugi's grandpa as his lechery was more an early characterization, but his interest in Vivian Wong and Otogi's cheerleaders wasn't exactly innocent. He still thinks Roshi is pervy, though to the older man's credit he's become better at controlling his lust. While they sometimes chat about beautiful women, most of the time they talk about their life experiences and how to give advice to those they care about. Roshi has decided to learn from him how to play Duel Monsters as a hobby.
  • He has somewhat of a rivalry with Comic Book Guy, come their mutual roles in the House of Commerce. He owns a major comic book shop of the Trope Pantheon, and Suguroku owns a major game shop. Comic Book Guy keeps trying to push advertisement for his shop over the old man, trying to get more customers. He was a bit annoyed to see a regular like Bart Simpson start to spend more pocket change at the Kame Game shop, causing the old man to quip "didn't you ban him?" Jeff simply responded with "we worked that out". While Yugi's grandpa is a bit exasperated by how much of a jerk Comic Book Guy can be, their rivalry is a harmless one and they'll sometimes show up at each other's shop to buy stuff from one another. Occasionally they meet up and chat, and/or snark, at the Kwik-e-Mart. Him and Apu seem to get along as small businessmen.
  • Brand X attempted to exploit the old man in hopes of pushing their awful, awful food products. Why him? Simply put, they wanted to look more appealing and "human". They propositioned him with an idea of becoming a promoter for Brand X food, by tying them with the games he sold. Suspecting them from the start, he asked the representative "could you taste test your food first?" That representative was nervous since he knew what their food taste like, so instead he decided to gamble and say "OK, let's decide it over poker. You win, I'll taste test it and we'll leave you alone forever. I win, you sell your game shop to us and we turn it into a market". Unfortunately for that representative Suguroku was a very lucky gambler and took some pride in seeing the representative prove how bad that proposal would've been for him. He got a high five from another shopkeeper, Uncle Chan, for pulling that off as it seems to have prevented them going after his business next. He's been interested in learning about Egyptian magic recently, and seeing another small business do well in the Trope Pantheon has made him smile.
  • As he's a friendly old man with a humble job, it's hard to really piss him off. Make jokes about him lusting over Black Luster Soldier and he'll just go "ah, I see you're a fan of that abridged series". Some people do piss him off, though. Though a bit of a pervert, he's far from the creep that Nobuyuki Sugou is. His abuse of the virtual world's gaming system and general sleaze-baggery made him permanently blacklisted from Kame Game. No, the fact he has no interest in Duel Monsters or the other games at his shop doesn't change that. He's definitely not a fan of Yoshihiro Kira either. For one, he's worried his Stand ability might cause some chaos if he gets access to Duel Monster cards, despite Yoshihiro saying "that's not how my Stand works you old fool!" More seriously, Yoshihiro is aiding and enabling his Serial Killer of a son and making Morioh a less safe place. The ghostly Stand user tried to defend his actions by saying he's making up for his wife's abusenote , only for Sugoroku to say that's a BS excuse.
  • While an expert gambler, Sugoroku Muto knows that eventually, your luck will run out. This is but one of many reasons why he has absolutely no interest in playing any game with the D'arby brothers, who he's naturally horrified by them gambling with human lives. Daniel at least finds his refusal to duel unfortunate, since he respect for his skill, but Telence is just an ass so he doesn't care. Yugi is glad they aren't trying to antagonize his grandpa outright since the way their Stands work is highly reminiscent of a Shadow Game. However Sugoroku is fine gambling for smaller wagers like a chocolate milkshake. Him and Tsunade decided to gamble over who pays for a month's worth of bento boxes with a game of Duel Monsters...Sugoroku won, though she insists that this was unfair because it was her first time playing Duel Monsters. They'll still make friendly wagers, just with more fair games. Recently he has been doing some bets with Uncle Chan over who can sell the most from their stores on a weekend.
  • Has a bit of a complicated opinion on Grunkle Stan. Sugoroku sees him as a troublemaker, a swindler a washout...but also a good friend, who reminds him of some of the stuff he got up to back in the day. Stan wishes that he did more higher stake gambling with him and thinks he's a bit of a washout, but this comes off more as friendly ribbing. While Yugi's grandfather is annoyed by Bubs and his swindling ways, he sees in Stan Pines a more devious version of himself but really fun company, who'll prove his worth when he needs to. The two like to swap stories, though the elder Muto admits he's got a lot stranger to say. One story both of them got caught off guard was Big Bird's, who dressed down Osiris when he refused to let a boy into the afterlife.

  • I think you should rework the title to God of Kindness-Induced Loyalty, because the trope is about characters who became loyal/friendly/disloyal to their own beliefs due to other characters showing them kindness. Changing their alignments to the person they are loyal to is a side effect of that but that's not the whole meaning of the trope. The potential hall should be Obedience Mindsets.
  • He also reminds me of Dr. Doofenshmirtz, another Disney TV villain with a desire to take over his town. He recently had a change of heart after his daughter Vanessa pointed out he's only acting evil out of an obligation to his miserable childhood, not because he was happy or good at being evil. Eventually, he turned a new leaf for the sake and love for his daughter.

I have another proposal idea. Major spoilers of The Beginner's Guide below.

  • Davey Wreden, God of Faux Symbolism - The whole game is narrated by the fictionalized version of the creator of The Stanley Parable. In it, he presents the player with a collection of short games made in 2008-2011 that were created by his friend Coda. He shows these games in the hopes of figuring out why Coda stopped making games and hopes to encourage them back into game creation again. Through the games, he speculates that his friend has some form of mental illness or mental burden. For example, he thinks the reason why Coda likes to make prison levels is because they feel trapped and is suffering from a form of depression. In reality, it's most likely that Davey's interpretation of Coda's games is just Davey projecting his own faults and not what Coda intended to begin with (which they even call him out on it on text messages that appear on their games). Davey's need to overanalyze Coda's games and presenting the games to other people without Coda's knowledge out of a need for validation and attention for Davey's beliefs, drove their friendship apart. With the implication that Coda got demotivated from making these games due to this and cutting Davey off from Coda's life entirely.
  • Also, I understand that this game can be interpreted in a lot of ways that it may be a challenge to write a profile about it (as it would lean to one interpretation for the sake of simplicity). I'm just gauging is this idea is Pantheon worthy or if he fits this trope or not and I need to look for another trope for him.

  • Once the best harpooner working on Bilgewater’s slaughter docks, Pyke’s life was full of constantly hunting monsters in search of more and more pay. On one fateful expedition, he and the crew of the ship he was working encountered the legendary jaull-fish, renowned for its rarity and high price. After jumping into the creature’s jaws in an attempt to kill it, the fish’s pod mates began to crash against the ship, causing the captain to panic and cut Pyke’s lifeline, sending him to the depths. Instead of dying, Pyke woke up in the beast’s mouth, surrounded by ancient voices that crushed his mind with visions of the people who took advantage of him. Now with a newfound sense of revenge and controlled by mysterious beings, he goes on a spree, murdering captains, then first mates, then practically everyone related to the slaughter docks. Striking fear into the very heart of the monster-hunting city, he carves through his list with no intent on stopping.
  • The Hall of Piracy was in an uproar. Captains began turning up dead, their corpses strung up by morning, with the few witnesses speaking of a masked man who asked if they were a captain and brutally cutting them down when they confirmed it. Soon, more people began dying; cooks, repairmen, and even the occasional fencer of stolen goods were being murdered in gruesome ways. Shortly after, authorities began looking into the killings, and found out the identity of the murderer: a mysterious revenant named Pyke. Arresting him, they soon found out that he had been ascended as Godly Sufferer of Nautical Insanity by the mysterious beings that control him. Reluctantly let go, Pyke is now eager to cross out any new names on his list.
  • Being controlled by sea monsters, Pyke has found many allies in the Pantheon’s many aquatic creatures:
    • The Salmonoids are one of Pyke’s closest allies, as they both share an Ax-Crazy nature and a desire to destroy. He’s quite amused by the irony in their usage of cookware and being mutated salmon and is impressed with their being undeterred in the face of death, and he sometimes joins them in their many raids andinvasion of cities. The Salmonoids in turn enjoy Pyke’s ruthlessness, and enjoy having in extra hand in their attacks. This partnership has led to the benevolent Splatoon deities hating Pyke, and they oppose his destructive nature.
    • Pyke often spends time with The Kraken and Rahab, due to The Kraken being a Sea Monster that is prone to attacking and sinking ships and Rahab being a creator of sea monsters, a species which he greatly admires. He often sinks ships with the Kraken and loves being around it, and Rahab is quite interested in Pyke and the beings who control him, that being the Swimming City, and often describes the monsters he’s made to Pyke in great detail.
    • Pyke finds Bruce The Shark to be a fierce creature, given Pyke’s association with sharks and Bruce having a penchant for killing and eating humans. Pyke is awed by his ferocity and often helps Bruce get the drop on unsuspecting swimmers, and Bruce doesn’t mind the assistance. The two have caused quite the uproar, and authorities patrol Pantheonic waters at all times now.
    • He has a lot of respect for Lagiacrus and Ceadeus because of their colossal size and aggressiveness and will sometimes head down to where they reside to see them. He also likes the fact that their respective Abyssal and Goldbeard forms reside deep in the depths away from other sea creatures, something that Pyke himself often does. Lagiacrus and Ceadeus don’t mind his company for the most part, and they just let him admire them.
    • Monstro The Whale’s swallowing of its victims was something that amused Pyke to no end, as being swallowed by a monster was what granted him his powers in the first place. Like most giant sea monsters, he respects Monstro’s hunger and immense size, reminding him of the Jaull Fish that devoured him years ago. Monstro’s seems to have a neutral opinion on Pyke, and they certainly don’t mind how Pyke occasionally brings him victims to consume.
    • He has quite the beneficial partnership with The Kraeken, as The Kraeken being an entire race of monstrous sea creatures reminds Pyke of the creatures that control him. He strongly supports their incredibly violent practices, has often offered if they need any help in killing anybody. The Kraeken themselves like having another ally around and sometimes give him a target or two to eliminate.
    • Because Octogeddon is known to destroy monuments and has a hatred for humanity, Pyke finds a sense of solidarity with the creature, and finds his anger and immense strength to be extremely amusing. While Octogeddon is a bit put off by Pyke being a human, he appreciates Pyke’s hatred of the world, and admires the power he hold, so he’s a bit of an exception.
  • Luthor Harkon and Pyke have a very unsettling Villainous Friendship, as they are both really unhinged monstrous pirates who enjoy killing people. Pyke is also interested in the fact that Luthor is a vampire pirate, mostly because vampires aren’t really a thing in Bilgewater. Luthor’s general ruthlessness and appearance is something that Pyke enjoys. Luthor, for his part likes Pyke as well, and has offered the Bloodharbor Ripper a spot on his crew on different occasions.
  • As for the other League of Legends deities, Pyke is on speaking terms with most of them; he sees them as useless for his own goals. However, he was quite happy to see that Ahri, Illaoi, and Yasuo had ascended before him, due to the fact they all met before. They were all happy to reunite with each other, and still get together on occasion.
  • Because the majority of them are pirates and some of them are captains, The Benevolent One Piece Deities hate Pyke with a passion, believing him to be an enemy insane monster who should be stopped at all costs, and Pyke himself is quite pleased that some of them ended up as names on his list, saying that he’ll make them pay for cutting his line. For now, he just waits until the time is right to strike them off the list.
  • Percy Jackson encountered Pyke while swimming around his hall and tried to kill him, thinking that Pyke was an odd type of monster. He soon found out that Pyke was no ordinary monster, and found him to be quite the fierce fighter, but Percy managed to pull through and get Pyke off him so he could make an escape. After this, Percy became one of Pyke’s enemies, as Percy sees him as a truly messed up person who needs to be put to rest. Pyke, on the other hand, views Percy as annoying little brat and would very much enjoy sticking a harpoon in his face. The two tend to avoid each other, as their interactions are less than friendly.
  • The Wolf despises Pyke, as being a revenant who was resurrected from the dead pissed him off, seeing it as an unfair way to cheat death and bring death to other people whose time hasn’t come, and The Wolf has confronted him on various occasions to make it clear that he would really like to put him down for good. Pyke couldn’t care less, telling him that more death couldn’t hurt since he’s already died before. He somewhat enjoys the effect he has on The Wolf’s temper, but The Wolf just bides his time until he can kill Pyke for good.
  • Pirates themselves, both Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann and Jack Sparrow really don’t like Pyke, due to Pyke reminding them of Davy Jones and his minions as well as Jack fearing him on principle because of his position as a captain. The feeling is mutual, as Will and Elizabeth annoy him and Jack’s chaotic ways make him all the more eager to kill Jack, one way or the other.
  • Pyke hates Risky Boots on the sole grounds of being a pirate captain, writing her off as being as corrupt and greedy as the captain that left him to die, and has made it really clear that he’d like to kill her. This obviously shocked her and made her quite scared of Pyke, but she’s sure that her and her friend Shantae could stop him for good.
  • The Ghostbusters were called to deal with a disturbance around some docks, and quickly found out that the cause of said disturbance was Pyke himself, and that he was quite different from the other ghosts that they had dealt with. Despite the fact that he couldn’t be trapped by the team’s usual means, they managed to get away from him safely. Since then, the team has marked Pyke to be a major threat, and have begun testing new ways to contain him.
  • While Hody Jones has a fierce hatred for all humans, Pyke is a bit of an exception, given the fact that he’s both undead and being controlled by eldritch fish. He’s quite intrigued by his hatred of the entire world and has been thinking of ways to use Pyke for his own ends. Similarly, Cthulu is very interested in Pyke and his superiors, and is currently looking for ways to contact the Swimming City so he can subjugate it and Pyke by extension.
  • The King of Armello feels a bit of sympathy towards Pyke, as the King sees his consumption by the Rot as quite similar to Pyke being under the control of the Swimming City, and hopes that Pyke can free himself from their control and have some peace at last. Yan Vismok also views some similarities with Pyke, given the fact that both were reduced to monsters controlled by eldritch beings. Pyke doesn’t care about their pity though, and doesn’t talk to them much.
  • Sissel, who has had experiences with Ghost Amnesia and wanting to find out about their past, feels sorry for Pyke having his memories warped by the Swimming City so he can further their mysterious goals, and has tried reaching out to Pyke in hopes that maybe they can find out what really led to his death. Pyke, of course, refused Sissel’s offer and is quite prickly whenever he’s around him.
  • Pyke had consulted his list to see if he had anyone else to kill and came across the name of Popeye the Sailor Man. Immediately struck with the memory of Popeye cutting his line, Pyke set out to kill the sailor. What Pyke didn’t expect, though, was that as soon as he tried to get the drop on Popeye, he whipped out and ate a can of spinach and sent Pyke flying with a single punch. Despite what one would think, Pyke just laughed it off, saying he loves it when they put up a fight, and respects the Sailor Man.
  • He’s found that he has a lot in common with The Spy, as both are unique SupportPartyMembers who are more focused on roaming alone to set up and get kills than actively helping the team, are assassins with mysterious pasts, and both have invisibility and ways to one-shot enemies. While they aren’t the best of friends, they share a mutual respect for their talents and are known to help each other take down marks.

    Hedonismbot
Hedonismbot, Godly Representative of Grapes As A Sign Of Wealth
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hedonism_bot.jpg
  • Demigod
  • House: Meals (A to M)
  • Symbol: A Bunch Of Purple Grapes
  • Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
  • Portfolio: Frequently Eats Grapes As A Sign Of His Wealth, Constantly Indulges In Sexual Escapades And Parties, Is Actually A Pretty Nice Person, Doesn’t Care Who He Has Sex With, Uses Taxpayers’ Money To Fund His Activities, A Large Robot Who Loves To Party, Built Entirely Out Of Gold
  • Heralds: His servant (and possible lover) Djambi
  • Allies: Barbarella, Bender, Homer Simpson, Barney Gumble, Louie, Ronnie “Z-Man” Barzell
  • Enemies: Sigma, Slaanesh, Dr. Frank-N-Furter
  • Opposed By: The Phantom Thieves Of Hearts
  • Complicated Relationship With: Emperor Calus
  • Annoyed By: Zenyatta
  • A hard-partying robot who loves to engage in all kinds of sexual activities, Hedonismbot has the idea of hedonism in his very programming. As such, he constantly indulges in everything from drinking to eating to orgies, always ready to have as much fun as possible. Using the funds he obtains as a senator to pay for all his decadent pursuits, he is built to do nothing but engage in hedonism, eat grapes, and party.
  • Hedonismbot was at yet another party, having the time of his life as usual, when a strange man walked up to him, struck up a conversation, and informed him that a place called the Trope Pantheon was planning to ascend him as the Godly Representative of Grapes As A Sign Of Wealth. Humorously, Hedonismbot thought that this was all the setup to some kinky role play session, and responded in kind by making some less-than-subtle sexual remarks towards the man. Obviously shocked, the messenger had to explain what the Pantheon was to Hedonismbot, who found himself quite intrigued by all the things he heard, and was quite pleased to hear that there were other people there who shared his “interests.” He enthusiastically accepted the messenger’s offer, eager to reach this place and party like there’s no tomorrow.
  • Hedonismbot was quite pleased to find out that Bender had ascended before him, as the two both have similar hard-partying personalities, though Bender sometimes thinks that Hedonismbot goes too far. Regardless, they still enjoy each other’s company, and often get together to have fun and drink a whole lot.
  • Barbarella considers Hedonismbot to be quite the kindred spirit, as both are known to be quite sexually active and don’t care much about their partners. They both like to “have fun” together, and enjoy the time they spend together. Barbarella has occasionally been invited to the many orgies that Hedonismbot hosts and enjoys them very much. The two are now on very good terms.
  • Homer Simpson and Barney Gumble often join in on Hedonismbot’s non-sexual parties, as though they are a bit put off by his promiscuity, they enjoy drinking and eating their hearts out with him and are sometimes his guests of honor. Barney and Homer are pleased to have found another drinking buddy. On the subject of eating, Louie also likes attending his many banquets and enjoys eating as much as he can with him.
  • As both are known to hold extremely grandiose parties and orgies, Ronnie “Z-Man” Barzell is one of Hedonismbot’s closest allies, and both of them like to get together and throw large parties that inevitably descend into orgies. The pair greatly enjoy each other’s personality and interests, and enjoy indulging in their hedonistic desires together.
  • Hedonismbot’s very existence has drawn the embarrassment and ire of Sigma, who sees Hedonismbot and everything he does and enjoys as a disgrace to robotkind. Sigma has tried to “reason” with him in hopes that Hedonismbot will stop doing what he does, but Hedonismbot doesn’t really care and tends to ignore him in favor of partying.
  • Despite being a known hedonist, he is really uncomfortable around Slaanesh because Hedonismbot believes that Slaanesh’s brand of hedonism is way too extreme for his tastes, and tries to avoid associating with her even if she is the goddess of hedonism. Slaanesh is actually quite amused by his whole shtick of being a hedonistic robot and has tried to get him to become on of their followers. It’s not happening any time soon, though.
  • Hedonismbot was at one of his usual orgies when he encountered Dr. Frank-N-Furter, who had naturally attended. What happened next was something that left the entire venue a mess and the authorities baffled, and is something that neither party wants to talk about. What is clear, though, is that Hedonismbot is quite disgusted by Frank-N-Furter, considering him to be too far even for his standards, and avoids speaking to him as much as possible.
  • Hedonismbot is actually a senator, and uses taxpayers’ money to fund all his little escapades. This corrupt practice earned him the ire of The Phantom Thieves of Hearts, who oppose this practice and his way of life. They do admit, however, that Hedonismbot is a genuinely nice person to be around, but have still made it known that they’ll be there to stop him if he goes too far.
  • When Hedonismbot first met Emperor Calus, he was quite happy to meet a fellow hedonist, but soon found out that their reasons for hedonism are quite different; Hedonismbot is quite literally built to party, and for Calus, his brand of hedonism is a reminder that he is alive. He is also a bit put off by his ruthlessness and cutthroat practices, which is something that makes him uncomfortable. As such, he tends to avoid Calus, but the man doesn’t mind Hedonismbot much, so long as he doesn’t get on his bad side.
  • He really finds Zenyatta to be incredibly annoying; Hedonismbot doesn’t really agree with his teachings or nature, seeing life as being much more well spent in complete and absolute decadence. Personally, Zenyatta doesn’t hold any personal grudge towards Hedonismbot himself, but does hope that he’ll change his ways soon.

It builds character.

I am back. After a long busy time, I'll be posting the reworks of Crossbreed Priscilla and Nito in a few hours. I caught something that I noticed in regards to character shilling on King Allant's profile.

  • Allant has recently received a fierce rival in the form of Philip Wittlebane, better known as Emperor Belos. When Belos first heard about the Old King, he thought he would make an excellent ally against his arch-enemies Luz and Amity, due to his dedication to his world's version of God and his great power and opposition to demons. He was furious when he later learned that Allant was actually the person who summoned the demons in the first place, and sold out his humanity just for the sake of his own power and greed. When he confronted the false version of Allant, the Old King commented on how Belos did nearly the same thing in his crusade against Witches and Demons. What followed was a very long, intense battle between the King and the Emperor that stretched across the entire House of Royalty and Otherness. Neither of the two were able to best the other at the end of it, although Belos' frustration at Allant grew further when he learned that the Allant he was fighting actually wasn't the real Allant, and the real one was a weak demon who was hiding away the entire battle. Belos now considers Allant his primary threat to himself outside of Luz and Amity, and is determined to hunt down the true Allant and put him down. On the other side, Allant considers the Witch Hunter to also be one of the biggest thorns on his side apart from Gwyn and the Slayer of Demons, and secretly shudders at the thought of Belos finding his true horn, since if that happens, it will be a Curb-Stomp Battle unlike any other.

I would like to suggest Meloetta as divine Magical Idols as she is a magic, mythical Pokemon, and has a whole music motif. she also transforms into her pirouette form (in the anime) by what is basically a magical girl transformation. she has the ability to fight by using song. she would be an intermediate deity in either the hall of magic archetypes or the hall of singers and performers. her partner would be Suzu Naito as both have a strong connection with song and beauty. her move set would be: Relic song, Psychic, Close Combat, and teeter dance. she has a Z-Move which is Shattered Psyche. i thank you for reading this suggestion.

[up] I'm just going to be honest; this is a [tdown] from me. Meloetta doesn't intrigue me as a good idea for Magic Idol Singer and it's not going to be especially known for representing that archetype either. That, and I'm going to be blunt about it; I'm not really in favour of most ascension ideas regarding Pokémon because I find defaulting to that series as the cheapest and safest choice and barely any of them turn out to be interesting anyway.

[up][up][up] I can see a potential interaction between Allant and Belos, but in case you see it as shilling, you can try to reword the paragraph into something that treats both characters more fairly and without having to resort to giant fighting or something.

[up]I have tried looking at Belos and Allant and I don't see it. What does a fanatic witch hunter have to do with a nihilistic king? I don't see the connection and I have already looked at both their wiki pages and double checked their motivations. It simply does not fit and just fits the headcanon of the user who edited it.

Since Spy X Family is out of the hype prevention sandbox, I'll take the profile from Shonen Trash 98 given that they no longer seem to be active in the Pantheon.

I wasn't sure what to vote on Meloetta, since I think Magic Idol Singer would be better-suited for an actual magical girl. Also, you don't need to put interactions in a proposal.

@Grandpa Muto: I wonder how he'd think of 『 』, who are excellent in games such that they've never lost yet except to each other? And where luck is NEVER a factor to them.

[up] This isn't a suggestion and more an idea that got mentioned, so I don't think that approval counts.

@Hamana

I think it would be better to PM Shonen and ask him if it would be okay to adopt the profile, since he might come back and be wondering why you have custody of the profile should you take it without asking him first. Better to check if he's truly gone than just assume he won't be coming back, even if it takes some waiting.

@ catcreep: Yeah, I am a fan of Pokemon and all but I don't see Meloetta as being the best choice for that trope

Okay, my proposal last post was completely ignored with no feedback. So, I edited my proposal to remove the hidden spoilers and reedited some text for clarity. I would appreciate any feedback, even a written abstain at this point, so that I know people would have read and at least shown a non-interest to my proposal.

[down] Nah, you are fine. I was referring to my proposal which is on the bottom of the post. My bad. Also, it's just better to get his main personality and quirks than listing all his obscure trivia or hobbies as that might bloat the profile. It's also just better to add his most used nicknames and aliases and just put ect. or "and many others" after the list.

[up]I did see it and I made the chances to Cedric in my post. Just annoyed myself in not getting other thumbs to get Cedric up early; at least I got the 3 needed so that he will be ascended in the future.

Is there anyone else who knows Geronimo Stilton books cause I highly doubt I have time to read 100+ books to get his nicknames or any small details I might be missing on this mouse. More specifically if there's any factoid that would give Geronimo more allies/enemies.

[up] I don't think you need to get all of Geronimo's nicknames right now, they can be added later.

@Lawliet

Abstaining on the proposal.
