New soundtrack is out for the film. And HOLY COW is it a gorgeous compilation.

One of my favorite renditions by Christophe Beck

[up] It took me a while to recognize that music. When I saw that the title was "Christmas Time is Here", I was like "that song from the beginning of the Charlie Brown Christmas special?" So I found an original version of that song and HOLY COW they're sharing the same rhythm!

Also, I had no clue who Christophe Beck was. One Google search later, I find out he's the composer for the music of such films as Frozen (and its sequel short), Edge of Tomorrow, and Marvel's Ant-Man.

Huh. surprised

Welp, there's that classic-style Peanuts music everyone was waiting for.

Were there any other concerns left about the movie that have yet to be addressed or should we be all good at this point?

I can't really think of any right off the top of my head. All that's left to do is wait anxiously for Friday.

Also, that music up there: [awesome][awesome][awesome]

Yes- how will this film hold up against Spectre?

Also, hoping I get some time Friday to see this film!

Sadly, Spectre will kick its ass.

Then again, it wouldn't be a good Charlie Brown story if it didn't end in heartwarming failure following by shrugging your losses and walking along. A good Charlie Brown tale can't be about success!

I scheduled to see this with a friend. ... the only thing is, the soonest she's available is the 17th! Which means I may have to not follow the tvtropes page of the movie for a while, AND this thread! Nor will I be able to listen to reviews on it!

On the other hand, Peanuts Movie and Spectre are going to be targeting very different audiences, so it's not an entirely done deal.

Plus it may not be all said and done until we've given both movie a few weeks to see how they both play out long term.

[up]That's my thoughts too. I'm wondering if this is going to be another Big Hero 6 - Interstellar contest.

@Kyun Totally hear you- I'm going to most likely be out until the 13th so I won't be able to watch the film when it comes out. At least I read the plot!

... that said, I still think this theme song is the most rockin' tune to ever grace a Peanuts animation.

A thought just occurred to me.

On the scale of "Trendy Approach vs. Timeless Approach", this movie is evidently taking the timeless approach.

Anyone think it's possible that whatever hypothetical success the movie will get, it could convince Sony to reconsider having Genndy Tartakovsky returning as the director for their Popeye movie?

I should say it is. It's written by Charles Schulz's succeeding relatives.

Popeye and Peanuts are so different from each other, I wouldn't even consider that chance.

[up] At first glance, yeah, you might argue they're so different, but think about it:

  • A) They're both age-old series that have been around for ages to the point where everyone and their mom know about them.

  • B) The part of the Popeye test footage (I'm sure you saw it already) that had Genndy talking was basically him saying "I want to take this movie and approach it in a timeless manner. Spark new life into it without eschewing what made people like it in the first place," which is what the attitude of the filmmakers for The Peanuts Movie was, if I'm not mistaken.

  • C) Genndy is/was really gunning for the timeless approach for Popeye. Sony evidently wants to go for the trendy approach.

So my understanding is, if The Peanuts Movie (using the timeless approach) gathers success from its target audience, namely families with young kids, I wouldn't brush off the possibility that it could cause Sony to be like "Hmmm, maybe we were being hasty with Genndy and Popeye..."

There's a difference to how each one was developed though. Peanuts was pushed by the executives of FOX and Chuck's estate and the family members that run it, just like every previous Peanuts adaptations. Popeye was only pushed by the director alone.

Is the Woody Woodpecker movie still being made? I'd say its success would have better luck influencing Popeye's fate than Peanuts' success could, since it's a bit closer to what Popeye stands for.

Seeing Peanuts go trendy approach would seem very off to me.

Though I do kinda wish that they used Lucy's design from the 80s and 90s strips. The one that was a shirt and pants as I kinda prefer that one to the dress. Same with Sally. I don't mind the dresses but I prefer the shirts and pants designs of the 80s and 90s strips.

Could merely be that they're going with the more iconic, 'classic' designs for the characters.

I figure that's why they used those designs for this one.
