So, this VN popped up on Steam some weeks ago (apparently, it's been around for a couple of years). And from what I've seen, it's..."interesting." Apparently, it's a story about some gaijin that wants to go to Japan because Japan's awesome that way, and when he's there, he goes sightseeing through a whole bunch of places, all while trying to romance one of a pair of local teenaged girls. Throughout it all, he seems to act like a stereotypical weaboo, talking about how much America sucks in every way and how Japan is so much better because so and so. It's about as good as one could expect (ie, pretty crappy).

However, the subject matter of the game and the rest of its badness do make for some entertaining videos. People like STAR_, Game Grumps, and OMFG Cata have videos on them that seem hell-bent on pointing out every stupid (in a bad way) thing that the game seems to promote.

Here's a video, if you're curious:

Ah, not so long ago I was imagining what a series about a "gaijin discovering Japan" would be like… not so good apparently. [lol] It's a damn shame because that would have potential I think. Japan is a fascinating country in many good, and also bad ways, and it would be interesting to see a Japanese author exploring their own country though foreign eyes.

Going from the video that VN looks pretty cheap though X) I laughed.

I played this game not too long ago and didn't find it nearly as bad as it sounds.

Yes, the player character is quite the japan lover (but that's also why he goes there). I am not sure what nationality he is from, you pick your home currency so paying everything in the euro equivalent made it seem he was from a rural European town and not that surprising that he seemed to be more clueless then my country sucks. At least in the version i played he never stated his country sucks, although he was always so bewildered about how busy and big japan is, i think it was much more of an appreciation of the differences in culture. he did always keep on talking about how he would show his country.

and they all three agreed that you fail to notice the touristic spots near your home until you have to show foreigners around. Having led foreigners around some of my country it really felt realistic on that regard.

a bit short though, but it was a trip worth making.

I know this is old, but I didn't find the game nearly as bad as portrayed. In fact, I thought it was pretty cool.

The main character isn't supposed to be American but whatever nationality you want (you can even choose his name and local coin in the expansion). Some of the things he gets surprised at come out as silly if you live in a big city, but is the kind of things most people would find weird (convenience stores open 24 hours, coffee vending machines in the street, ridiculously big and busy train stations, etc).

It never really states that anything is bad. The game is of course oriented at someone who's a japan lover and would like to go there. In fact, is pretty much a lesson in Japan old history, culture, traditions and places (quite a lot of history) with some cute VN girls butting in. If anything, the whole romantic/personal plot falls short to the actual knowledge of japan they bomb you with. This gets "fixed" in the original, where you get a lot of more conventional VN story alongside the Japan Info.

Whatever, people will be entitled to his opinion. But saying this game is a stupid weeaboo simulator is like saying Katawa Shoujo is a cripple sex simulator. It's not the point at all.
