People die every day. Some of them are famous, some important, many newsworthy. This thread is for announcements of deaths in the news, discussions of the legacy of those recently deceased people, and memorials of same.
Please observe the usual rules about posting ettiquette and note that this is in On-Topic Conversations.
To start with, the last of the original Von Trapp Singers has died, Maria Von Trapp, 99, in Vermont. (This is the daughter of Captain Von Trapp, not her stepmother who was also named Maria. In the musical, they called her Louisa.) http://news.yahoo.com/maria-von-trapp-99-dies-vermont-005546425.html
2023 mod note:
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.
This doesn't mean that you can't discuss their life or legacy, or express an opinion as to whether they escaped justice for their actions. But if that starts to become a longer conversation, there are other OTC threads that may be more appropriate.

Virtuoso jazz pianist McCoy Tyner has passed at the age of 81.
Please tell me that the label will put out a tribute album. 81 - he was there when a lot today's jazz was being created. I'd love to get a "greatest hits" - if it's possible to narrow it down to the top 10-15....
All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be a case on The First 48Shoot, I remember being surprised that he was still alive when he was announced for The Force Awakens.
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.Once, he was the only man to beat Death in a chess game. Now they'll have a rematch, somewhere.
RIP.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Through the years, his hearty music and cornbread muffins has inspired us.

Rip Kenny Rogers. I only know the man due to his restaurant chains, which while no longer available in the US, are still ongoing and a hit in Asia. Love the food.
The food is definitely hearty, much like the man.

Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)I was initially afraid that he died from Corona, but it thankfully looks like his death was more peaceful.
Maurice Berger, Historian Who Fearlessly Called Out Art-World Racism, Is Dead at 63:
As a curator of incisive photography shows dealing with whiteness and an unforgiving essayist who paid mind to race long before many of his colleagues were willing to do so, Berger has been an influential figure to many. He tore into the mainstream art world’s myopic views, calling out major institutions for not engaging diversity. And in a regular column called “Race Stories” for the New York Times photography blog Lens, he considered how camera-made images can be tied to complex political contexts.
This guy on the other hand, did.
