People die every day. Some of them are famous, some important, many newsworthy. This thread is for announcements of deaths in the news, discussions of the legacy of those recently deceased people, and memorials of same.
Please observe the usual rules about posting ettiquette and note that this is in On-Topic Conversations.
To start with, the last of the original Von Trapp Singers has died, Maria Von Trapp, 99, in Vermont. (This is the daughter of Captain Von Trapp, not her stepmother who was also named Maria. In the musical, they called her Louisa.)

2023 mod note:
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.
This doesn't mean that you can't discuss their life or legacy, or express an opinion as to whether they escaped justice for their actions. But if that starts to become a longer conversation, there are other OTC threads that may be more appropriate.

Mike Castle, politician and lawyer, died five days ago at age 86
.
I feel like writing it without any context other than "he had a big following" is incredibly disingenous.
He was a vulnerable person who became a streamer and was a victim of repeated physical and mental abuse that might definitely qualify as torture, and died during a ten-days streaming marathon (where he as usual was repeatedly abused). He went into cardiac arrest while on air, and his """friends""" (many more airquotes needed) took about 50 minutes to be worried and call an ambulance while the chat was laughing about him dying. Which he did.
Context is definitely important.
Part of me was wondering what the hell Twitch was doing letting this go on and then I saw Kick and I thought, yeah makes sense in the twisted way.
As per M84's sig, disgusted but not surprised.

Burning love!I read some of the stuff and... man... I did not want to continue, probably we complain a lot about pornography but, it seems that several people are exposed to see physical abuses and start to be insensitive about this... :(

Kick is basically where people who get permanently banned from Twitch go to ply their trade.
Think about what it takes to get yourself perma-banned from Twitch.
Disgusted, but not surprisedThis reminds me of the bsnes emulator developer (byuu I think) who was also bullied into suicide. A brilliant developer to boot. Sickening.

Frank Caprio, America's "nicest judge", succumbed to cancer at age 88

I want to get this on record, and it's obviously in part because of my Mastodon fan bias but: this genuinely breaks my heart. In a way that even the deaths of Brian Wilson or Ozzy Osbourne just didn't.

Oh... I thought of Mastodon the Fediverse platform.
Still, condolences to the other band members and to his family.
