Last night did not go nearly as well xD I managed to beat a Swine Prince but bad luck in later encounters lost me three other people, a Spearwielder, a Houndmaster, and an Abomination. Could have avoided two of the deaths if it weren't for the Spearwielder's camp-battle jumping me with no warning.

Ah, you are starting to play the first Darkest Dungeon?
Okie dokie then:
- Seriously the overconfidence thing is important, the chance of something going wrong will eventually happen when you play enough.
- Kill the dudes that cause stress. The only hitpoint that matters is your heroes' final one, and then after that they can hit death's door, and be at death's door when you end the expedition to get their health fully replenished for whenever they go on their next expedition. Stress, however, stays between expeditions. On a related note, you should be trying to kill or hamper backline enemies the most too.
- Make sure your party has the skills and therefore a plan for handling all ranks of the enemy.
- The speed system generally means faster characters will act first (it's a dice roll added to each character's speed stat) - this can be used to expect to usually set up for certain combos and is a cornerstone for parties that make use of self-moving skills.
- Bring a lot of provisions. You can realize what you'll be able to skimp out on later when you get practice - beforehand, bring and use whatever you can. I suggest buying as much food as possible, as many torches as possible, 2 shovels, 6 antivenom, 6 bandages and a skeleton key.
- You're going to have to get acquainted with the curios you can find. You may do this through trial-and-error like your great-grandparents did when they played video games, or just look it up online
, whichever you want, I won't judge. You can do that for the bosses too!
- Focus on upgrading the Blacksmith and Guild buildings the most to improve your heroes.
- Stuns are great to use against enemies at least once.
- Buffs, debuffs, and damage-over-time effects can stack.
- You can equip and unequip skills outside of battle during expeditions in addition to while in town.
- When your expeditions start getting firewood, try to make sure the heroes involved has someone that can use a skill to prevent nighttime ambush.
- Seriously the overconfidence thing cannot be overstated, if you find yourself thinking "I'll just take a chance right now..." before you do something, you should probably reconsider it.

Also, certain Heroes work better in certain dungeons.
For example, Crusader's pretty good in general, but really shines in the Catacombs since all of his attacks do Holy damage and the Catacombs are full of Undead. By contrast, Bleed focused Heroes aren't so great in the Catacombs since the Undead don't bleed. Because they're skeletons.
Disgusted, but not surprisedBounty Hunter also works pretty well in the Warrens since all of the enemies there are part Human. His ability to mess with enemy positioning is also extremely helpful in the Warrens, especially when dealing with those fucking vomit pigs in the back.
Jester's better on long expeditions due to his Stress management abilities. If you're going on a Long or even Medium run, consider a Jester. If you're doing Crimson Court stuff, definitely bring a Jester.

Disgusted, but not surprisedHonestly, I can't think of any actually bad Heroes, with the exception of the Antiquarian. And at least that one is very clearly a utility character meant to increase your profits.
Back when I played the game I ended up making good use of all of them to eventually reach the final boss.

The Vestal gonna give the enemies the bonk
NOW WHERE THE FUCK IS REYNAULD, CHRIS?! I KNOW YOU HAVE HIM AROUND HERE SOMEWHERE!
Also, there was a Q&A
She looks like she Took a Level in Badass, because shes drawn looking more determined than in the first game. Fitting, since the theme of the sequel is to be more proactive, to take the fight to the Eldritch Abomination.
So, a Darkest Dungeon overhaul mod has a Steam store page.
It, uh, definitely has a different usage of sexuality in the visual design than the original game, but otherwise keeps the same concealed-eyes artstyle.

CC was definitely quite the trial.
Here's a tip: Always bring a Jester and a Flagellant. The Flagellant is practically tailor-made for CC's foes, and the way the CC missions work mean you'll be in the dungeon for a long while — you need Stress management.
Disgusted, but not surprised
