I want to get back into KH fanfics after a decade but it's hard when you haven't played anything since 2.
Oof, I can imagine. How much do you know about what happens afterwards?
Oh God! Natural light!- There's a guy with Roxas' face, some black haired guy, and his friend Aqua. They're in stasis or something.
- Riku cut his hair.
- Kairi cut her hair.
- ...I know Cinderella's sisters died.
I've seen videos summarizing the series but nothing clicks. It's one of those works where you should play it firsthand.
I'm thinking of reading old 2003-2008 fics, but it's hard finding good fics.
I’d recommend getting the compilation rereleases on the PS3 and/or PS4. I think they’re also on Xbox One now, too. That way you can either play or watch summaries of the games you missed. Also read wiki articles or something for the phone game, because that comes up.
If you’re not up for getting back into the actual games, I’d recommend watching cutscenes or other people’s playthroughs. It’s the next best thing. There are also at least two recap podcasts, although one of them still has several games to go through.

I personally just watched the cut-scene compilation for COM since I wasn't feeling the gameplay and wanted to play KH 2.
I planned to do so for a couple of the others, but I took a break and never got around to it.

"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobI'm up to date on most things, but I've been avoiding KH 3 spoilers in hopes that it will eventually come to PC or Switch.
Looking at the top faved fics on FFN, I'm fairly convinced half of KH fics barely relate to the games. Those Lacking Spines is pretty cracky.
(x3) I've been trying to get into the series again for a few years, but I don't own any consoles to play the rereleases on and can't watch 20+ hour long playthroughs. I'll probably just skip to straight KH 4 if it ever gets a Switch port, as much as fans say not to.

You could also try reading stuff on the wiki, probably. Maybe start with plot summaries and go to character pages and other stuff for the parts you need more information on.
Honestly, jumping into more recent fanfics might help with getting the stuff from the summary videos to stick, even if it’d still be confusing at first. As long as you note which fics are AUs and stuff and keep in mind that not everything people write about is going to match up perfectly with the games, you could probably get the gist of what happened after reading enough.

Damn, KH fandom feels frickin' dead lately. Oh well. I'm still planning to write a fic for it so here I go.
Planning to write the Kairi Goes To Make Sora Not Dead fic while it's still relevant. I was thinking of having Namine and Xion join her so we get a nice girl trio. And so that Namine finally gets a Keyblade, of course—at least Kairi can technically fight, smh. I'm playing with a lot of ideas right now, so if anyone has suggestions for this, I'd love to hear them.
I'm also bouncing a Xion/Namine role reversal fic in my head. Keyblade Namaine, surviving Xion, it's everything I could ever want. Could also work with a Roxas/Namine role reversal, but I feel like that might be more work to implement? I'm not sure.
please call me "XionKuriyama" or some variation, thanks! | What is the good deed that you can do right now?Been thinking of a Massive Multiplayer Crossover AU fic that uses Kingdom Hearts as a starting point for a wider Shared Universe with Sora, Riku, and Kairi as the main characters.
Lover of anime, video games, old-school Rock & Roll music, yaoi, horror, motorcycles, classic cars, trains, and historical fictionKingdom Hearts is definitely well suited for that. What sort of things would be included?
Oh God! Natural light!Still trying to work that out
Sort of torn between a fic mainly running on 1990's and early 2000's nostalgia (right down to including Dub Name Change for certain characters for that old school feel) OR doing more of a Dark Fic with various works in the horror genre
Lover of anime, video games, old-school Rock & Roll music, yaoi, horror, motorcycles, classic cars, trains, and historical fictionEhh, Dark fics are overrated tbh.
I mean, from most of the stuff I've seen it's really... uh, uneven when it comes to quality?
You gotta start somewhere.True, but I kinda like dark fics. So I'm kind of torn on the issue.

Lover of anime, video games, old-school Rock & Roll music, yaoi, horror, motorcycles, classic cars, trains, and historical fictionDark fics aren't inherently better or worse than... uh, undark ones. It's all a matter of taste.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. That is true
Lover of anime, video games, old-school Rock & Roll music, yaoi, horror, motorcycles, classic cars, trains, and historical fictionI've been playing shoot 'em ups like Super Galaxy Squadron Turbo EX and I'm definitely reconsidering making Valkyries and/or Gundams in my story mainly because it would totally boring because the way that I think it would go is for the same reasons that how the Zaku I and II dominated for most of the One Year War of Mobile Suit Gundam for three reasons:
1. The dominating new technology of mobile suits (and I'm going to shorten it to MS for my convenience).
This happened for two reasons:
MS were, at that point in time a new concept and no one really knew how to fight them because they were surprisingly maneuverable in space and the Earth Federation underestimating Zeon as a whole.
The other point is because of a particle: The Minovsky particle, or in this story, GN particles. Minovsky particles (and any non-UC technology because it's usually a copy and paste transition from the original) can interfere with long range communications and radio waves so most enemies would be going in there, blind.
Except in this instance, it would be happening to the villains.
Makes them look weak and pathetic, IMO.
I mean, if I do use them or just giant robots would probably go for something ranged based like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJsF49uL7ow
I need to think about this.
You gotta start somewhere.I've recently been working on a KH fic that's a Gothic Horror AU. I've written and posted four chapters so far, with more on the way.
Lover of anime, video games, old-school Rock & Roll music, yaoi, horror, motorcycles, classic cars, trains, and historical fictionBeen considering an idea where the Princesses of Heart are the Keyblade masters instead.
Mostly was born from a joke idea of Belle and Cinderella fighting each-other with Lightsabers, which I then decided to change into Keyblades on a lark, and then it grew from there.
One Strip! One Strip!I vote yes to that idea.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.I've gotten thirteen chapters of my KH fic written, with more on the way. Last updated the fic around Halloween and would've updated it sooner but real life got in the way. Going to try and use the weekend to work on it more.
The fic is on Archive Of Our Own and it has its own TV Tropes page, Dark Hearts

Lover of anime, video games, old-school Rock & Roll music, yaoi, horror, motorcycles, classic cars, trains, and historical fictionx 3: I did have worldbuilding that amounted to the Princesses of Heart being natural magical powerhouses.
Then again, like Cosmos, them fighting would be seen as a Godzilla Threshold and something that they wouldn't like to do.
Seeing them as support. Now that's better.
You gotta start somewhere.x4: What are their fighting styles like? What are their specialties?
I can see Belle as the group`s tech expert. She probably helped Maurice with his inventions or at least paid attention to his lectures. Not to mention her refusal to be intimidated by anyone, never mind strange machinery.
Can someone please tell me how to edit my title and location?
Not sure to be honest, but Belle as the tech expert makes sense. Outside of maybe Cinderella (who was nobility, then poverty, then royalty), she's probably the most well educated considering she was reading well before she gained access to any kind of royal library.
And the point you made about helping with Maurice's inventions makes sense as well.
This idea is pretty bare bones right now.
One Strip! One Strip!
Day 40 something. A Directly after Chapter 9 of Chains of Waves.
I've been missing writing Xemnas, and I'm not sure if I got too weird with him or not.
Part of me feels bad for Larxene.
All he's actually doing is healing her full-body 4th degree electrical burns, (in an invasive and painful way, by remaking her on an atomic level) and she can't read his mind to know what a creep he is, but.
But wow is he a creep.
