It's not being shat out by Dreamworks or Sony; this can only be a good thing.
...truthfully, I don't remember a single episode of Chip N' Dale — just that Gadget is considered the Marilyn Monroe of furries.
I'm a skeptical squirrelHey, Disney, while you're at it, a Darkwing Duck movie would be very much appreciated. It's pretty much the perfect time for it, too.
Not sure how I feel about this being a live-action film, though. I haven't seen much Rescue Rangers since I was a kid. Did they interact with humans a whole lot, or at least enough that the movie is better served by being live-action rather than 2D animation or CGI?
I don't see any reason for them to be CG-characters in a live action movie. I believe they had a human enemy. I don't recall any human allies or supporting cast.
"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984That's right, there was that mad scientist guy voiced by Jim Cummings. I couldn't remember if they did things like rescue kids or whatnot (as opposed to other animals).
^^^ To be fair, this is something that could actually work in Live Action, since a major aspect of the show was that they were little animals living in a human world. Putting this in live action wouldn't have the same effect of forcing us to separate the characters from the world they're in (which too many live action adaptations thrive on), since the premise is actually doing that anyway for once.
Most live action adaptations like this are adapted from series that don't bother explaining why there are four foot chipmunks walking around amongst humans or there's a kung fu fighting dog working as a janitor in the police station (since that's either not the point or part of the joke), yet when adapted writers almost always try to make a point out of it and ground the world in reality somehow. This barely ever works, but it shouldn't be a problem for Rescue Rangers.
At least, not as much of a problem as it was for - say - the (thankfully) failed Hong Kong Phooey movie.
As long as they don't make the Underdog mistake and waste a crapload of time by centering the movie around explaining why they're a bunch of mice living in a human world - or do the Alvin and the Chipmunk mistake and full the time with needless real-life rodent jokes - it should be fine.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. This is how I imagine it.
Rescuers meet Rescue Rangers.
Okay, I now see how stupid that sounds, but hear me out. Remember how the second Rescuers movie was supposed to be a pilot for a Rescuers television series, but then it got retooled into Rescue Rangers?
Exactly.

Disney seems to hate the Disney Afternoon to a point just short of chasing all evidence it ever existed and burning it in a pyre, so I'm shocked this even got this far.
Okay, I really dunno if I should revive this corpse of a thread, but news regarding the movie were mentioned a month ago, and, well...
...I don't know about you, but for me it isn't looking good.

I am the most suitable partner for Gaia. I have some bad news. You will not make it to Eden. This is the end of your journey.Unsure of how reputable this site is, but it's claiming the Rescue Rangers film will stream exclusively on Disney+ and feature most of the original voice cast reprising their roles.
Apparently Roger Rabbit will be making an appearance in this movie.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireWhat's your source?
Anyway, as mentioned earlier in this thread, the whole premise sounds much closer to a Bonkers movie than a Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers movie, with the whole "toons and humans fighting crime together" angle - and Bonkers, in turn, was retooled from a Roger Rabbit series.
And yes, this movie has two threads, this one and one under Western Animation.

I heard about Roger Rabbit too. The possibility of a Roger cameo (or better yet, an actual plot-relevant role for him) is the only thing keeping me interested in this movie.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Embedded version:
And the Roger Rabbit rumour was correct
Yeah it's looking like this is less a Chip & Dale movie and more a Spiritual Successor to Who Framed Roger Rabbit using heaps of licensed characters to cash in on the "success" of Space Jam 2. I saw the cast of Friendship is Magic in one shot.
That being said I do like the idea there conceptually; the whole "animated characters are real" thing is ripe for new jokes and plot devices now that animation has become largely 3D and computer-based, which they're doing a good job with. The joke comparing the 2D-to-3D transition to plastic surgery was clever.
Just seems like kind of a spit in the face to do it as an "adaptation" of a beloved cult classic kid's show whose fans were really hoping for it to come back properly.

Oh, this movie was in development long before Space Jam 2.
Oh I'm aware, I just get the feeling that it might have shifted focus at some point semi-recently. I mean the first post in this thread is from 8 years ago, that's Development Hell if I've ever seen it.
I still remember when the movie was first announced.
"A Lady does not start fights but they can finish them"Please decide whether to keep this thread or the one in Western Animation.
Wow I hate it.
I think the thread in Western Animation is longer, so I vote for keeping that one.
EDIT: I thought that thread was older too, but both were started on the 1st of February 2014 (which means this movie was in development for eight years).
