So the new emotions are gonna be voiced by Ayo Edebiri, Paul Walter Hauser and the French dub voice for Ember in Elemental.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.Yeah, that is a nice change.
…Okay, how long do we think we got before we start seeing Riley shipped with the new girl?
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.I mean it’s possible, she’s LGBTQ. Her imaginary boyfriend lives in Canada…
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.I remember a big theory before the second movie was even a dream was that Riley was trans.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Huh… I think it’s the first time I see someone do animation dubs for two different languages like like that… But Adèle Exarchopoulos is pretty famous across the pond, so I guess it works.
At least, as noted above, Envy seems to be a rather positive emotion, which makes exactly two in the bunch now.
What's interesting to me is that Riley seems to shift from 13 (birthday cake) to 15-16 (much taller) across the trailer. That indicates either a Time Skip with a prologue shortly after the events of the first film to actually taking place over a much longer period of time. Her mom's emotions saying "welcome to the next ten years" may lead towards the second idea.
Also, the return glimpse of her mom's emotions reiterate the first film had the core five across all characters seen, so these new emotions further indicate to be an anomaly. My guess is they are either transient or there might be a Fusion Dance involved.
Comics are just words and pictures. You can do anything with words and pictures.Like the other emotions get their own command room when they resolve everything?
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.D'aww, Envy and Embarrassment are adorable!
Anxiety seems downright sinister, though. Barking orders at the little blob people (what are they, anyway? Brain cells?) about the "New Riley Project"... seriously, have you ever seen anything named anything like that in fiction that wasn't some kind of nefarious plot?

IIRC wasn't there an early draft where Riley already had multiple emotions living in their own rooms in the back. Like I recall Joy walking down a hallway and Schadenfreude yelling something at her with a thick German-accent.
My guess is that they retool this idea for the Sequel and this will be the final resolution of the conflict: the main five remain in control but have the others on standby when they are needed.
Edit: Ah yes this is the one.

The new emotions messing around with the "core" emotions I guess is an allegory for how puberty messes with you.
So an in-universe explanation for why older people don't have the other emotions at their controls is that they've learned to process them in a healthier manner and not let them control them. They are still there, but strictly on a consulting basis or something.
Though "healthier" is relative — remember that one bus driver whose core emotions are all Anger.
Disgusted, but not surprisedA new emotion was revealed, and like we thought, it corresponds to joy! https://twitter.com/ThePixarPost/status/1772846610516779362
It's Nostalgia.
There's also gonna be an art book
that arrives in May, a full month before the movie is out.
Well from how Inside Out portrays the emotions and their uses, Fear is the emotion about knowing about dangerous possibilities and attempting actions to mitigate them. Sadness is the emotion that is to properly process and displays events that displeases Riley so she can be assisted. Disgust is to prevent being poisoned, both socially and physiologically. And Anger is for her to fight against what Riley considers unjust, unfair, or inequitable.
What the new emotions mean in real life terms, Anxiety is the emotion of being apprehensive or fearful about unperceived or uncertain threats, either real or imagined, and to usually employ threat avoidance as a means of calming. Envy is the emotion of finding it unfair aimed at someone else's success that you don't have. Embarrassment is usually a feeling of shame or self-consciousness, usually caused by a difference in the conception of one's self and how they feel they're being perceived by either themselves or others. Ennui is basically a sense of listlessness, boredom, and displeasure with one's life and a lack of desire to do anything about it. Based on those descriptions, I'd probably link Fear = Anxiety, Anger = Envy, Disgust = Embarrassment, and Sadness = Ennui.
And based on what we believe is the fifth new emotion Nostalgia is sentimental longing for past happy actions or events. So that would link obviously with Joy.
So many fanfic writers are gonna be sobbing now that their works are Outdated by Canon.

Yeah, I didn't mean necessarily malicious, but definitely harmful.
