The premier was on last night, and I have to say . . . it's fun to watch.

The first challenge between the two teams was a duel with shock rods on a platform suspended ten feet above the ground. Other than one person badly injuring another, that was awesome to watch. One of the battles even devolved into a wrestling match and had to be broken up.

I think the Future team did the world switch wrong. They should have switched worlds so they could see how bad bad can get and actually KNOW what they were trying to avoid.

Okay, this sounds intriguing, explain more and where it's being aired.

I was interested from the first preview when I thought it was some kind of special. Then like two commercials later they announce "new reality show" and it completely lost me.

It's basically just Survivor where the winning team gets to sleep on a bed and play with their cell phones, and the losers sleep on the floor by a firepit, right?

But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you.

Okay, sit back for a fun block of text.

It's Survivor meets Big Brother meets American Idol. It sounds strange, right?

There's a house with a glass wall down the middle. One half gets super-modern convenience. Tablets and a Smart House atmosphere that takes care of them. The other half gets to light fires with flint, sleep on fur on the floor, and work for every convenience they want. Both teams can watch each other all they want, and even talk somewhat.

Now, the challenges. The show airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10/9 central on Sy Fy. Tuesdays are Worldly Challenges where the teams face off, and the winner chooses to swap worlds or stay where they are. After that, each team chooses one person to be immune from elimination. Then we, the viewers, get a day to go on Twitter and choose which of those Protected People gets to decide the two people who will face each other in the elimination round.

We also vote for most and least popular players. The most popular gets a reward, which we also vote on, and the least popular gets a punishment, which we also vote on. tongue It also looks like this coming week they're going to drop a couple new people into the game, from a pool of candidates which we vote from.

So it's basically a Survivor game where the viewers get involved in deciding certain things and the teams are kept close enough together that they can constantly see one another. I don't think there's any privacy at all, so Team Chronos, the future team, can see the seething jealousy of Team Epoch, and Team Epoch gets the feeling that they're a TV show for the Future team.

That's what I was thought it was, three reality shows combined with a vaguely Sci Fi gimmick. Like I said, I had interest when I thought it was a special of some sort. Like a dozen people experience living in that smart house and then living in a "cave". That may have been interesting. This is just yet another reality show of artificial drama.

Sounds entertaining as long as you don't take the "reality" part too seriously.

Considering the first episode had a shock rod duel ten feet in the air as the challenge, and someone predictably badly injured someone else . . . yeah. Don't think too hard about it.

Why would somebody on the future team choose to switch? Is it pretty much just elimination game stuff?

Now, this could get interesting if team past's decisions affect team future somehow.

Team Past won the first Decider vote, so they did affect Team Future by choosing who would face the Elimination Challenge. Team Future lost a member, so the odds are evened.

Team Future has everything handed to them, and it's killing the actual team. Team Past is all about each other and sticking together, and they managed to work a hole in Team Future's defenses. Supposedly, anyway. We might not be privy to everything relevant, and Team Future might be dicking around with Team Past's head. But I doubt it.

ETA: And Team Future would choose to switch sides to just get it over with and work on team building.

I wonder if this show was inspired by the immortal question, "Who would win in a fight between astronauts and cavemen?"

Just started watching but am firmly on Epoch's side, maybe because I tend to root for underdogs.
