That was a decent ending. Loved Oswald's coup de'tat there, I've been waiting to get his comeuppance for awhile now.

[up][up][up] They can't really cure him if they can't capture him first and figure out the special version of the gas that Jerome made. Just like how Barnes conveniently broke out of the Arkham transport and escaped off-camera before they created the cure for the Tetch virus.

Also, they could do their own take on the reason why Bruce (Batman) can't kill Jeremiah (Joker): Because he feels guilty over playing a role into what became of him, and wants to cure him.

I'm not sure I like Jeremiah as the Joker. It was a fresh take, but he doesn't really scream "Joker" to me, and it seems DC doesn't want him to be the Joker anyway. He's too methodical and soft-spoken. Not traits we typically see in the Joker.

Creating this connection between Bruce and Jeremiah cheapens the conflict between Batman and Joker later on. I always felt what made them so strongly connected was that neither knew the other's identity: Joker doesn't know, nor does he want to know who Batman is, because he's nowhere near as worthy of a foe if he's reduced to a mere man. He's obsessed with defeating Batman, not Bruce Wayne.

Jeremiah and Jerome being fixated on Bruce parallels that rivalry, but establishes it too early for it to mean anything. If anything it makes it seem impossible for Jeremiah to not figure out Batman's identity since he claims to know Bruce so well, and makes it impossible for him to be obsessed with Batman.

Really, it's like how they made Slade Wilson fantastic on Arrow, but the problem was that he was too focused on ruining Oliver's life. Jerome was better off because while he hunted Bruce a few times, he didn't seem as hooked on him as Jeremiah is, what with calling Bruce his "best friend."

Jeremiah also didn't really have much time to get to know Bruce so I don't even really buy that they're supposed to be close friends or that he even knows that much about Bruce. There was like one moment where Bruce opened up to him to try to get him to help Gordon stop Jerome, and Bruce ended up being wrong on that anyway. And Bruce is totally right that none of what he's done makes sense if he's doing it for their friendship.

To me he ends up looking like some psycho-stalker Annie Wilkes-eque fan after the insanity gas, because the friendship motive doesn't really seem believable. The generator bombs just come off as a mechanism for Rash's vague visions to be real. And I'm not a fan of vague prophecies either. It's kind of lazy writing.

Although it's ironic that what ends up motivating Bruce to become Batman is spoilers about his future through a vision, when the audience wants to see how he becomes Batman because they already know it will happen.

Don't get me wrong the actors still manage to make what happens really entertaining, but it's still not very well written.

I'm not sure what to make of the ending, glad Penguin finally did something, even if it wasn't a complete takeover launch to the top and Sofia Falcone was conspicuously absent despite being "in a coma".

Alright, I just caught up with the ending.

On one hand, I agree that Jeremiah seems to not be a modern Joker, but given that they can't have The Joker actually named on the show I don't blame them. Either way, damn is that some good acting.

(Actually, I feel David and Cameron are amazing actors. Ben Mc Kenzie's final speech about being the light in No Man's Land fell kinda flat for me, though.)

It feels like Ra's and Jeremiah trying to make Bruce into Batman cheapens Bruce becoming Batman. I want him to have that moment of seeing bats flying, seeing them as something feared that also cares, come solely from Bruce. That fierce compassion and drive for justice coalescing into a symbol, not because of a prophecy but because that's who Bruce is.

I honestly wonder where they'll go for Ed and Lee. Though I'm tired of the split personality thing. Come on, Ed can have serious issues without a split personality.

[up][up][up] I think part of my problem with Jeremiah, who I actually think is an interesting character and is well performed, is that the show's clearly trying to set him up to be the Joker. He wears the Joker's outfit and has his skin and hair dyed like the Joker. I get that there's a good chance that something's going to happen to Jeremiah and someone else will become the Joker, but I feel like they've done that too much already.

I can't say I cared for the direction they went with Nygma, but in hindsight, seeing as this is possibly the final season, the speed at which he became the "Riddler" feels more appropriate.

Remember how some speculated Barbara was going to be Harley Quinn or Magpie or something? Apparently, they almost went through with that.

Also, we're not getting the Ventriloquist, despite earlier teases.

First Look At Gotham's Bane

https://www.newsarama.com/42416-first-look-gotham-s-bane.html

Live Action Bane should be the easiest costume you can make. It's just wresting spandex and a luchador mask.

Nolan Bane was whatever because he was trying to insert "realism", but this is really lame of Gotham to do.

It would be somewhat passable if you got rid of the shoulder pads and the hair.

Really, though, I don't get why Bane's design gets tweaked so much, again and again and again. It's simple and sleek, yet EVERY adaptation always adds so much unnecessary stuff to it.

Maybe he's too generic. Like, he's a guy in a tank top, pants, and a mask with tubes occasionally sticking out of it. Nah, that's too boring, he's got to be practical and wear armor, no, he's got to have a mask that delivers pain relievers, nah, he's got to have a giant machine on his back at all times.

What is Bane even doing in Gotham at this point? Isn't the main focus of his character that he sees Batman as a threat and staged things specifically to take him out?

[up]Yeah, he'd been having nightmares about a giant bat since he was a kid and came to associate Batman with the bat of his nightmares. So he figured if he broke The Batman he'd free himself of The Bat of his dreams. Taking over Gotham was a bonus.
