...not sure how I feel about that, in all honesty.

I'm using Kayaba as the main villain who is also a Archdruid because FE tradition. As a reference to Nergal and his manipulation of the Black Fang, Kayaba is manipulating both the Knights of the Blood Oath and Laughing Coffin.

In a more meta sense, I need more characters as it is a Fire Emblem fic.

The SAO arc didn't give you enough to play with?

<looks at the main party as shown in the second season's post-GGO Alfheim arc>

...actually, I suppose see your point.

And even then I still need to use OC Stand Ins and actual OC's.

You gotta start somewhere.

...I had a highly unusual idea today. Dunno if anyone ever wrote this, I'm not active in this fandom because every fanfic I saw so far either rehashed canon or starred an all-OC cast.

Anyway. It's an alternate take on the SAO arc. By a freak accident, Kirito stumbles upon an exploit that allows one to log in and out without Cardinal noticing and logging it. Now, Kirito knows it would be extremely immoral of him to keep it to himself - but he also knows that if he makes it public, sooner or later Kayaba will hear of it and patch it (and knowing him, possibly booby trap it with instant death to discourage further attempts at cheating), thus nobody will be able to leave.

So what Kirito and co. do is to wage a Matrix-esque shadow war against Kayaba by seeking out SAO players in hospitals, uploading the exploit into the player's Nerve Gear, then logging back in, seeking out the same player inside the game and having that player run the exploit to be silently evacuated. But of course, if they get too many players out this way, Kayaba is bound to notice that there's suddenly much less players running around than there should be - so their secondary objective is to track down the man in the real world and remove him from the equation. Problem is, for all they know, Cardinal might be scripted to kill everybody in the event the GM is forcibly disconnected.

That's an interesting idea. Don't forget though that no one knows Kayaba is connected to the system. That's easily fixed by having Kirito's "there's nothing more boring that watching someone else play an RPG" revelation earlier, but still, it's something to keep in mind.

All the better. If he's not in the system, that means he can be turned over to the authorities in the real world so that a mass liberation can be carried out without interference.

Random thought: You know the 'It was all just a dream!' trope?

Kirito was just a OK player who DIED IN THE FIRST BOSS BATTLE. Everything else is a near death fantasy he has as his life runs out in the boss room. Would explain why he's so rediculously bad ass and Mary-Sue like in later arcs. He just made it up!

Now I just have to figure out how to make the idea work as a fic....

Despite this area seemingly being dead-ish, I come bearing fic. Would REALLY appreciate any notes on if I made factual errors and if it makes sense so far.

Constructive comment: y'don't need to link the same fic twice.

What's the premise?

Crosspost from something I put up on another forum:

Take the basic advertised premise of SAO (hyper-immersive virtual reality MMO that traps its players in a death game on the day of its launch) and change the setting/premise of the game world from "feudal fantasy" (Aincrad) to "professional wrestling" (Aincrad Federation Wrestling). The term "deathmatch" suddenly becomes very, very literal. Want to escape the game? Either make it into the AFW Hall of Fame, or otherwise beat Akihiko Kayaba in a no-disqualification match at the super-elite once-a-year Wrestle Galaxy event. In the meantime? You'd better lace up your boots and make sure your latex fits, because it's going to be one long, hellacious career if you intend to survive.

Of course, I would be putting my own spin on canonical elements, particularly canon characters when they would have occasion to show up. Romance would probably still be a thing that happens here and there, but I wouldn't let it become a defining thread of the overall narrative like canon SAO did.

I still don't know if I want to run this project as a fanfic, an RP, or a quest of some kind, but dammit, I'd like to make it some kind of a thing.

Wanna bet that the Sword Art Online American TV show is going to end up like some mutant CW version of VR Troopers?

It's American, so of course it's live action. What silly person would use animation for such a serious storyline? Silly person, don't you know cartoons are for kids and have no merit whatsoever?

Had an idea for a new fic: instead of drifting apart because Suguha realized her incestous love for her brother and Kazuto learned they were just cousins, Sugu and Kazu become closer when she realizes she's a lesbian and he's the only one she can confide in. This leads to him teaching her how to flirt with girls online, since there she can pretend to be a guy and get some practice in, and then it progresses to them playing mmo's together and her hitting on female avatar players, with Kazuto as her wingman. This also gets her hooked on games the way he is, but she's in it for he social interaction. The release date of SAO comes out one day early, and Kazuto suprises her with her own NERVgear and copy of the game. Since her Kendo camp isn't until the next day, they both log on together, she decides to crossplay, and she enjoys her first time hitting on girls 'face-to-face' while her brother plays support.

Then it turns out they can't log out.

Cue the Kirigaya siblings teaming up as the Harem Aura duo. If Kirito can't nail them, Leafa will!

Oh, poor Kuro . That's gonna be SO fun to see develop. Can't wait until Asuna tracks her down thinking it's Kirito.

Latest scene for Living Outside The Database (and it would be very nice if someone made that blue):

Another Heroic Interlude

Lizbeth had never had to camp in the hostile, mob-infested woods during her whole say in Aincrad. Sure, there had been that thing with the ice dragon and the dragon shit materials for Kirito's sword, but that didn't count since there hadn't been any trees around when it had happened. When it had become obvious they wouldn't be getting to Shibuya on the first day, she had assumed they'd be turning around and going back to Akiba to think of plan B.

In hindsight, she should have realized Kirito had bought a tent for a reason.

“Are you fucking insane?-!” Sinon demanded after Kirito told them of his brilliant plan to camp out in the woods. “Everything out here is our level or higher! There could be field bosses out there! Random wandering super boss encounters! It could rain! What if it rains?-!”

Leafa and Lizbeth had both nodded emphatically, satisfied with having Sinon be the one hurling abuse.

“So… you're cool with marching on the rest of the night?” Kirito said, sounding bizarrely hopeful.

“NO!-!-!-!-!” the three other girls chorused.

“Papa,” Yui called from the bush she'd taken refuge in, “how do you use toilet paper again?”

Yelling at Kirito was briefly interrupted as he logged in his necessary fatherhood hours. Thankfully, Yui had ask before and not after usage had been necessary.

“Kirito, how are we supposed to sleep out here?” Lizbeth asked more reasonably after Yui had gotten rid of her latest unbalanced, overpowered debuff. “If we draw aggro in our sleep we're mob bait!”

"We sleep in shifts, of course," Kirito said as if they were hardened soldiers who hadn't been marching all day. "I'll even take the first watch so you girls can get some sleep first."

The girls paused, and had this been a manga, they'd have all shared a thought bubble. A chibi-Kirito sat next to a chibi campfire and a sleeping chibi-Yui. They already knew that Yui would NOT be on any watch shifts. That meant the three of them would be doing shifts. The girls all divided the number of shifts with the number of non-Yui people who will be keeping watch and came to the same predictable conclusion.

"I'LL TAKE FIRST WATCH WITH YOU!" all three girls said.

Nice! You probably should mention where the canon Log Horizon cast are tho. Crestent Moon and West Wind Brigade should at least show up... and we can assume the future Log Horizon are off on their quest to save Serera.

I really want to show the Serara quest, but on reflection, having them rescue Philia along with Serara isn't really going to change things much, not even the fight against Brigandia.

I also mentioned DDD and the West Wind Brigade in another section. I'm trying to get the situation developed enough that the SAO cast will FINALLY be interacting with Log Horizon people we know. Should be soon.

So I'm writing a Zelda SAO crossover. here's a preview since the actua cross doesn't start until chapter 3 or so

Link couldn't believe his eyes. “Y-you're Hylian!”

“I know!”

“How?!”

“I don't know!” She felt around her back and grumbled. “It sucks not having wings, but hey it beats not dying and having those...other feelings..”

“Yeah..” Link looked away in shame, the air in the room prompting Sinon to exit to give them some space “Tatl..”

“I don't want to talk about it.” Tatl said. “We were both in a bad place. Besides, we have more important things to worry about.”

“Yeah I know. I don't know what happened but it seems that Termina restored itself.”

“Uhh, Link-”

“And now we need to figure out how it happened.” He got up out of bed, shocked for a second that there was no pain despite the amount of wrappings he just had removed. “Odd. Anyway, it's pretty much safe to assume that taking the mask out of Termina and going back to the first day was the reason that Termina disappeared like that. We can assume two things: that either the world was restored because the mask was returned to it-”

“-Uhh, Link?”

“Or the world restored itself on it's own. Now how it did that-”

“LINK!”

“Yes? You don't have to yell, it hurts my ears.”

“Whatever. Look, I've been trying to tell you for the past minute that this isn't Termina!” Well he was taking it well so far. She wasn't feeling any of his anger. “That weird slanty eyed chick told me so! She thought I was something called a 'program' and when she moved her hand across the air, some weird rectangle thing with words appeared in front of her!”

Link stared at her, processing what she said. Curious, he swiped his hand in front of him and sure enough, a transparent white rectangle with words appeared in front of him. “What in the world..” His name was written at the top, next to the word 'Handle', with no other information to be found. “I get the feeling there should be more information here.”

“That's what the slanty eyed lady said too. She kept talking about these things called 'Hit Points' and 'MP' or some stuff.”

Link's brain lit up with recognition. “Those terms sound familiar...” He mumbled. “Excuse me, miss Sinon? Could you come in here?”

2 hours later..

'Well he has quite the active imagination.' Sinon thought as Link finished his story. These MMO's always bred people like this kid, who took their roleplaying very seriously, to the point of annoying and enraging other players. She had just spent two hours listening to this European looking boy and his Fairy partner tell a story that could have been a game in of itself. He finished summarizing his basic experience in 20 minutes but her curiosity got the better of her over and over again. 'There was no way that was all', she thought, he spoke with the same conviction that many a roleplayer did in this game and even in GGO. The intricate way he described areas like the Great Bay or Ikana Canyon, to the people of Clock Town, he must have spent days or even weeks making this backstory up for his character! And the way he was panting after it, he must have been wanting to share his ideas with someone for a very long time.

“Thank you..” Link said, exhausted. “I really needed to get that off my chest.”

“....Did you seriously have to insult me so much when you were talking about the first few days?”

“You did not make acclimating to Termina easy.”

“True.”

A loud beeping noise caught everyone's attention. “Shoot.” Sinon muttered. “I have to leave for now, it's lunchtime.”

“Wait what?” Was all Link got out before Sinon disappeared in a flurry of light, a floating arrow icon in place of where she used to be. “So my suspicions were right.”

“What are you talking about?”

“About where we are. That strange screen I summoned...it's similar to the one the Ikana Great Fairy made so that I can use the Song of Time to it's fullest potential. You said miss Sinon could summon these screens. Did she look like she was straining to do it?”

“I guess not? I was more concerned by the fact I grew and have a body this big, but she wasn't panting like you do after you use the ocarina.”

“I see. That hole in the world we fell into must have-”

“-Man, did she look good in those shorts. An ass that won't quit!” Link narrowed his eyes at her, his cheeks red. “Connected, remember? I had the same reaction when that hot hick hugged you to her boobs, I just buried it deep down, especially when you did it again for the last loop. Not my fault you have an active libido for a kid.”

“...A-anyway.” Link continued, now regretting giving in to Ruto's advancements. “As I was saying, that hole we fell into must have transported us into this realm, a realm filled with powerful sorcerers. The fact that she just teleported out to get lunch must mean this area is a safe zone of sorts. It must be if she could leave what she must have assumed is an injured child alone.”

“Actually she just logged out. Teleportation's a whole other thing. She's probably out in the real world.” Link just stared at her, his glare telling her to continue. “Yeah, I know all about this world.” She said, uncaring about Link's growing anger. “I learned all about it ever since you opened that menu.”

“Excuse me?! Then why didn't you say anything?!”

“Sorry, but I like seeing you talk. You think that line about me falling for you was just from me being depressed? I meant every word of it. You sound so hot talking all big that I just indulged myself.”

“Holding things back from me for your own amusement..” Link sighed. “I wish you left that part back in your fairy body. So spill it..where are we?”

“In a video game.”
