Third Av P was alright, just a severe step down. This though? This sounds really fucking cool.
nyo ho hoIf they don't fuck this up it will be amazing.
They say they've played it, which is more than can be said for the also promising early builds of Colonial Marines.
Also:
...How?
That's just not fair. I hate when games try to include smell mechanics. It's universally arbitrary, given that we don't have the capacity to smell the gameworld.

This looks awesome. An Alien game that isn't just SPEHSS MEHREENS? Just what I've been waiting for.
Direct all enquiries to Jamie B GoodThere being no scripted things makes me curious about how they'll handle the plot. Because, I mean, the original Alien movies do have story. There's the alien itself wanting to feed and breed. And the company being dicks trying to take it for their own use as a weapon, to turn a profit.
Mother and Ash seemed to have some idea that the Alien or some sort of alien life form or something of value was there beforehand.
Also the Nostromo being a giant mostly automated space Uhaul.

Point.
But anyway, Ash was kinda the secondary antagonist for the first movie. Spoilers.
And I dunno, if there's no scripted things, there should be some sort of way for there to be another character that gets killed off, or for a character to try to trap you with it. Or something.
Also, you can't be completely tense all the time. There has to be a break at some point.
Also, there has to be a learning curve at some point. You have to learn how to do things, how to avoid it, how to hide, how to use the motion tracker and tools. And stuff.

Well the "Tutorial" could be the actual boarding of the ship, or you might need to get situated and briefed on all your stuff before they send you over.
I gotta say, I hope they update the model for the Xenomorph. After 20 years of mookification the basic model isn't as scary as it was when the movie came out.
nyo ho hoIs it me, or is this game going to be Amnesia: The Dark Descent meets Alien? In any case, a refreshing change from the usual colonial marine or AVP shooters we've been getting for the last twenty or so years. Hope that Creative Assembly actually takes their time so this game won't be filled with bugs like the latest Total War game...

Knowing Creative Assembly, they probably won't, as long as they know people will give them good reviews for games that are buggy out of the gate. And since they care more about their Metacritic score than genuinely going out of their way to make a good, content-complete game, it's especially damning.
Then again, they also have a bit more pressure considering the sort of thing that happened with Colonial Marines.
Also, I wonder how they could implement the Nothing Is Scarier thing the first movie went with? I mean, you don't see the thing most of the time, it's in shadow, or near the piping or what have you. I think the design does still hold up mostly, the trouble is making the A.I. learn how to use the shadows and the fact that most of the environment is made of the same piping that made the Alien itself up when it just was a costume.
That was one of the things in the Colonial Marines and AVP games where they fell short which is that the way the Aliens work is that they're based on Giger's "biomechanical" design philosophy, where everything is a machine and human and animal simultaneously. A lot of the creepy moments are when it's a still shot of a wall which suddenly moves.
If they aren't scripting anything, then there might be a part where it gets it wrong and tries to camouflage itself against something bright white, waiting for you to get closer until you never do because you're not that stupid.
...Also, one of the disturbing things about the alien is its life cycle. We just not doing that? They using the thing where it turns people into eggs from the deleted scenes? Will the alien molt and turn into a queen? They bring any other eggs aboard?
Also, older story from October.

embargoes just lifted for the newest Alien game (not Aliens which is important) by Creative Assembly.
