Man, back in the day, I was the shiz at this game. I was Jinto Fellwind, a Dunmer Spellsword who clawed his way to the top of the Mages' Guild. I found a Daedric Katana, and then sold all the expensive light armor I wasn't going to use so that I could enchant my blade with a lightning spell. That thing killed every non-boss character in like, 4 hits, max.
But before I got that, I basically just abused the Amulet of Shadows and its Chameleon protection to go into caves full of higher-level outlaws, chase them around while invisible, kill them, and steal their loot.
The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]I'm a Hoodlum, level 2, and I didn't . . . I have that amulet.
I can steal with it! Yay, because I've been stealing everything not bolted down, and bartering as much as possible. And I've been Admiring everyone I meet, so that helps.
And I'm only in Balmora. So, I could use the amulet, swap to Tower Key, and get in my one a day 50 point lockpicking.
Ah, Morrowind. I've been meaning to crank this up again for a while now. I stopped playing my last character years ago, when I reached around level 80 or so. I was the master of everything, but the skills I had were not skills that any faction beyond House Redoran valued. I had spear for crying out loud. Spear! Who uses a spear? Spear and medium armour.
I spent my time looting tombs and shrines looking for relics to sell to that museum in Mournhold. I found a book, Treasures of Tamriel it's called or something like that, and I tracked down most of the items in there, sold them and used the money to train every skill to 100.
And no matter how long I played it, there was always new stuff to find. New caves with sidequests involving naked people, a crashed boat of pillows heading for that woman in Balmora. Fargoth saying something weird.
WWWWWWOW // With Which Witticism Would Wilde Wither One's Wellbeing? The only problem that I have with the game, at least early on, is how insanely easy it gets to go places you shouldn't be. Take the shops, for instance . . .
Most two story shops have either a guard or a second civilian watching over them. Great! Except they don't block the stairs, and they don't routinely patrol them. And there's no locked door, either. So it's a cakewalk to march up the stairs, take a turn to leave sight, and steal most of the stuff in the shopkeep's personal quarters. Without using magic or a high sneak skill. Then you just walk right back out. As long as you don't offer the shopkeep their stuff back, you just made out with a bunch of stuff.
And when there's diamonds hidden in there, without a guard to stop you . . .

Muahahaha! Tonight got . . . bloody. First I was slinking through some Dwemer ruins, looking for a puzzle box. Then I left and sold off some wears before hitting Hla Olad for a couple quests. I went to the tradepost and asked about some artifacts, but the guy I was told to ask wouldn't budge. So I pickpocketed him. He noticed and started attacking me. My crime was reported. Fine by me, I killed him. That was reported by the store owner. I didn't care. I saved a new file called Hoodwinked, so I wouldn't besmirch the old file, and killed him too. THAT was a tricky fight, because he was a spell slinger.
I won, and explored, looking for those artifacts. I found them in a chest, and picked the lock. I grabbed those artifacts then paid the 1,025 fine so I wouldn't have anything to worry about. Then I hightailed up the trail and ran into a rogue Nord I was told to take out of action.
Part of the fine was my curaisse, so I swiped the Nord's fur armor as a stand-in. Then I used an Amulet of Divine Intervention, got to Fort Moonmoth, and hiked to Balmora, after a long hike into the wilderness trying to get to Balmora on foot. I gave up the artifacts and sold some stuff to buy a new Bonemold Curaisse. After getting an extortion mission from the Thieves guild, I hiked back to fort moonmoth, and now have the mission to . . . incite a bloodbath that will wash away the Cammona Tong members in Balmora.
This is going to be fucking FUN!
Heh, I remember that quest. You know, I understand that, as "the guy who gets shit done", you gain a lot of trust with whatever guild you happen to be part of. You'd still think, though, that when they send you to clear out a tavern filled with dangerous murderers, they'd at least provide you with a little backup.
He made it perfectly clear he wasn't sending me anywhere. He was informing me of a situation and telling me a bedtime story. That I happened to choose to do it was of my own volition.
Plausible Deniability that no one believes.
In the meantime, I need to go to Ebonheart and see about lifting a hit on my head.
Oh, right, I forgot about that. I thought it was a thieves guild quest for a second there. Did you also take care of the guy with the mohawk on the top floor? He's supposed to die for a different quest, involving some murder in Balmora. If you can find the questgiver in the victim's house, you can claim the reward just like that.
I kind of resent the Dark Brotherhood hits that force you to go to Ebonheart. Tribunal is a pretty cool expansion, but it's completely disconnected from the main quest. I'd appreciate it if they'd just let me finish the plot I'm dealing with in peace while the Tribunal waits for their turn.

One of them's worth 60,000 drakes, so yeah . . .
