A general discussion thread for all things DC Comics. Topics may be split off into their own threads if necessary. That said, since there's already a thread
for the D Cn U (aka Nu52), this one would probably stick to pre-Nu52 comics to avoid redundancy.
I've always wondered if there's a justification for Wonder Woman's outfit being designed after a modern-day one-piece swimsuit/leotard instead of something that would fit her Greco-Roman mythological background (e.g. Amazons were more often than not depicted as wearing trousers
◊note ). A few attempted redesigns had her adopt Lady Legionnaire Wear for a skirt, but they never stuck. And then of course, there's her pants-wearing design during J. Michael Straczynski's run (courtesy of artist Jim Lee).

Shrugs
Never heard until now but even modern cartoons still used it, that’s why I found it weird.
Anyhow, I loves the anime look Adam Bryce gave him, it’s a fresh from the usual Christopher Reeves facial structure, after a while it gets tiring to see.

A new master history of the DCU for the Everything Is Canon era, written by WAID!? Fuck. YES.
And they got Scott Koblish, king of giant crowd shots, to do covers
◊, too, yesssssss. This one seems to be all Golden Agers, so I imagine each issue will have one of these for a different era.
I was specifically thinking of Jaime, since he and Victor seem to have a lot in common.
Before Cyborg got integrated with the motherbox, I'd have given it to Beetle, even with the latter becoming Cyberion (where he was integrated with some alien tech of his own). Now I'm pretty sure Victor takes it, because New Gods Tech just kicks everyone's ass.
Though it may be that Young Justice has influenced me on that one, since that series made it clear that Reach Tech just gets rekt by Apokoliptan tech, with every interaction the Scarab had with the latter resulting in NOT COMPATIBLE!
One Strip! One Strip! My hopes aren't too high. I'm not convinced many at DC know the difference between Canon and continuity.
Buldogue's lawyerThe designs previewed for New History of The DC Universe are well drawn. I really like the way the skirt looks. Tennis skirts are cool in general, surprised there aren't more of them. Conceptually the Silver Age style bracelets are a nice middle ground between the Golden Age unlinked shackles and the Post Crisis vambrace-cuff bracelet hybrids that look more like actual armor. Appreciate the eagle too.
But I prefer the perching eagle Justice Society World War II went with. It's closer to what she had in the Golden Age. The choice to go full silver vambrace-cuff bracelet is anachronistic, but it looks better both aesthetically and practically. Also, if you're not drawing culottes, culottes are also cool and underused, the high waist biker shorts are the way to go, as far as I'm concerned. Thematically I only really like the skirt in the tales where Hippolyta is sent back in time, since Diana didn't actually wear one in the Golden Age. More characters in tennis shorts, yes, but Golden Age Diana in culottes or biker shorts.
Still, the designs do look nice, and there's a chance the plot will tie things together satisfyingly. I might mostly like New History of The DC Universe by the time it's finished.

Buldogue's lawyerTrinity by Tom King and Belen Ortega announced for June
The art here looks adorable.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Ok so the actual solicit for the new history of the DCU makes more sense "told by the newest chronicler of time, Barry Allen, the Flash! In our debut issue, Barry takes us from the very birth of the DC Universe to the rise of the Justice Society. The Golden Age of heroes begins here!" So it's from the birth of the universe to the JSA as told by Barry in the first issue not the birth of Barry to the JSA.
Doing a reread of Green Lantern Far Sector cause I recently bought the company edition.
I'm reminded Jo here was given an experimental new ring. It doesn't require a Lantern charge, it can recharge on its own. The caveat is that it takes long to recharge, at least several days if it goes down to 0 and is weaker than a normal ring.
See I don't like this because it feels like just a nerf. It's basically an excuse to have Jo be mindful of her ring usage and leave her stuck powerless due to the demands of the plot.
It's unclear how long the recharge requires so for the latter end of the series for multiple issues she goes in her civies to maintain charge until she gets pissed off enough to use her powers again.
You can see why this was done away with once Jo was integreated into the main setting and she got a normal ring because the logistics of a self-charging ring is too much of a hassle to deal with.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I remember years ago one writer had Hal make his power battery invisible and intangible and program it to follow him around. It would make itself visible when it was time for him to charge his ring.
Seriously, making the need to charge the ring into an issue in a story always struck me as a particularly un-creative complication, like having Spider-Man run out of web-fluid (except in one case, where he was having trouble getting the ingredients for his webbing—in that case, it made sense), or making his webshooters jam.
Also the ring being weaker than a normal power ring I'd say doesn't really get shown in the story.
There is surprisingly little action scenes in the series. Its mostly a lot of investigations and any encounters are largely against the alien inhabitants of the City Enduring like police, criminals, or soldiers. So no supervillains or anyone truly powerful. At one point Jo casually blasts through the cannon of a tank and wrecks it.
There are only 2 significant fights, one against a squad of mini-mechs and a fight in cyberspace, and in both cases Jo performs without difficulty. In the mini-mech fight Jo constructs her own mecha suit to destroy the alien weapons, and in the latter case her ring is able ''jack her into the cyberpsace world of the sentient computer aliens and reconstitute her body into data."
The finale doesn't have her really fight either. Even though an entire armada shows up the climax is just Jo flying through the air to survive long enough on a 20% charge to break into the capital ship and talk down the general. She doesn't hurt anyone.
The ring being weaker is tough concept to sell because its unclear how exactly this ring is inferior to a normal ring. And then there's the Guardian who created it saying "It spikes in lower in terms of absolute power. But once you learn yo harness it fully, worlds will fall before you, and arise transformed." This is probably intended to be metaphorical but the phrasing makes it come across that its going to be way powerful which kinda defeats the point of it being supposedly weaker than a normal ring.

The second one gives a very heavy Soviet Propaganda poster despite it's Art Deco style.

He who controls the present controls the past. He who controls the past, controls the future.Been reading the later arcs of Johns' Green Lantern, since oddly enough, despite being a huge fan of Sinestro Corps War and Blackest Night, I actually hadn't read what comes after them yet. Wow, Johns was not subtle with the Guardians' heel turn. What they do to Guy in particular is downright sadistic - they create a whole new Lantern rank that outranks every other (even higher than Salaak, who is usually depicted as the Guardians' unshakeable right arm) just for him, and put him on an assignment to protect the diplomats headed to an important peace treaty. At the same time, they also grant a pardon to the very first criminal he ever apprehended as a Lantern, a vicious space pirate who has sworn to kill Guy's entire family.
So while Guy's en route to the peace conference, the Guardians call him up to tell him the pirate has "escaped," but Guy is not to go protect his family and instead stay where he is. Guy, naturally, disobeys, and once he's on Earth, the Guardians call the pirate and order him to massacre... the diplomats. As a result, Guy looks like he's cocked up his first mission as an uber-Lantern in the most horrific way imaginable, and he is dishonorably discharged as the whole Corps says good riddance. And for the lack of the diplomats the war they were trying to end presumably goes on, too. All because the Guardians wanted one particular dude out of the way.
Oh, and speaking of Salaak? Shortly after this the Guardians discover he's bugged their meeting chamber and decide the most fitting punishment is to bury him alive. Like I said, not subtle.
Grant Morrison's GL has a really sexy lady Guardian named Saal who honestly looks more like an Asari from Mass Effect. She's fonder of latex bodysuits than the traditional robes of her people, to be sure. Haven't read Far Sector yet so I'm not sure if she's supposed to be the same character as
that one.
Attractive Guardians are just really weird.
I associate them too much with old little people so trying to make them attractive is always an awkward thing.
Feels like it just falls into the cliche where the female members of the species automatically have to be hot and sexy compared to the men.
Probably aren't the same person, especially since Far Sector when it premiered was in a more nebulous canon. Probably just the coincidence of both writers wanting hot Guardians.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."

Depends on the Beetle. If its Jaime, than he solos (Assuming Cyborg isn't experienced in hacking alien tech.) if its Kord or anyone else (with that specific mantle TBC), then its Cyborg. if its the Big Bad Beetleborgs however...
