Flash's 750th issue will be 80 pages and will feature stories from many classic Flash creators like Marv Wolfman, Geoff Johns, Bryan Hitch, Francis Manapul, David Marquez, Riley Rossmo and More. The issue also kicks off Willaimson's next arc "The Flash Age" which reveals former big bad Godspeed is now a herald to an even bigger bad called Paradox.

[up]Okay. I now have an excuse to buy the Flash again.

"All new stories from across the generations"? Jay AND Barry AND Wally?

And I realized that February is the month when the final issue of Flash Forward drops. I'm hoping "The Flash Age" is supposed to be the big event featuring Wally that we were told about and not whatever huge event is supposed to lead to 5G.

Williamson shines when he is writing the Flash family. More of that. Please.

In this issue both Jay and Bart will accidentally murder a bunch of C-listers because of spontaneous PTSD.

Barry is of course innocent and chaste.

Yeah, I found "Flash War" pretty great and was hopeful that he would write more Wally and Bart when he brought him back. Unfortunately, both of them disappeared from the book, so I dropped it.

The Barry only stories are just kind of...repetitive. Barry tries to fix something, it goes wrong, things are bad for Barry, his powers don't work, it ends up fixed, talks with Iris, repeat over and over. His powers didn't work because of the Negative Speed Force and then his powers didn't work because the Speed Force was dying and then there were all of the other Forces which...just didn't really work? I liked it better when he was having to deal with Godspeed and then Black Hole. And his Rogues just...aren't as good as Geoff Johns' or Mark Waid's were.

Yeah I dropped out a bit after Flash War, I think during the strength force arc which I just found bland. I don’t think I would’ve minded it as much if there was at least one other speedster around for Barry to work with it would’ve been really interesting to see Barry and Bart work together for a while before YJ started up.

Is Flash War the current run?

It’s PART of the current run by Joshua Williamson, whose been writing Flash since Rebirth.

It's interesting, because Williamson has probably been the longest Flash writer since Geoff Johns and his run started out really strong. I loved "Lightning Strikes Twice" and all of the new speedsters...but none of them are in the book now.

Yeah I liked Wallace (BTW has Wallace ever met Bart?) and his uneasy relationship with Barry was a nice dynamic. Avery was cool to have just because there weren’t enough female speedsters and she worked well with Wallace. Aren’t they supposed to come back soon now that Flash Year One is over?

Maybe it's because other books impact Williamson's run? Perhaps he can't use Wallace because of Teen Titans and he couldn't use Wally because of Heroes in Crisis? Which definitely sucks, because I did hear that he had plans for Wally and the brief meeting between Wally and Wallace was pretty great.

But then I'm reminded of Al Ewing, whose books always ended up impacted by crossovers at Marvel and he made them all work great.

[up]I don't understand why they didn't do a Flash Forward-type event right after Flash War. It would have been more logical (and well-received) than Hiccups was. What was the purpose of that thing anyway? It seems like an attempt to do Identity Crisis Redux, nothing more. And it was a waste because now DC is ignoring or fixing what happened.

If I had to guess Tom King was a popular writer, he had an interesting idea of exploring mental illness via Super Heroes, because of editorial interference or King’s own poor writing choices it ended up the way it did. Why they decided to ruin Wally was anyone’s guess.

[up]The general consensus seems to be that it explored mental illness in the same way The Shining explored the ups and downs of the hospitality business.

I remember rumors of Wally being in Suicide Squad once Hiccups ended, with Brian Azzarello writing. That didn't happen, but if it were ever in the works, it would explain a lot of things. And now, like I said, it seems DC wants to pretend Hiccups never happened.

Also, King was a writer with a lot of clout. He even had an editor removed from Batman. So who knows if editorial mandates were at work here? Either way, they screwed the pooch.

I recall he had no intention of doing a murder mystery so that was all on the execs.

[up][up] They appeared in Justice League and it looks like Doomsday Clock may herald their return.

If they do bring back JSA as a book, I really hope they use a good writer. Someone like Gail Simone would work well.

God, I would have hated that. I'm really glad Tom Taylor is doing Suicide Squad instead.

IIRC Tom King had Wally, Booster and Harley foisted onto him to be the leads of Heroes in Crisis on top of his original vision of "Sanctuary", a story about a mental health retreat for superheroes, being turned into a murder mystery.

Yeah, I believe he stated that he told the editors what he wanted to write and they told him which characters he could use.

[up]But he also chose to use them the way he did and give them the roles he did. Sounds like a combination of factors here.

Yeah, Tom King's writing doesn't tend to lend itself well to lighter characters. Wally West, I believe, needs to be a lighter hero — a hero full of optimism and hope, even if bad things happen to him. King's writing is about despair and depression — which works really well if it's a character like the Vision or Mister Miracle, but not so much with Wally.

Then again, King can write lighter stories — his two part "Super Friends" story in Batman was probably the best issues of his run and they were just about Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne being friends and going to a carnival.
