A general discussion thread for all things DC Comics. Topics may be split off into their own threads if necessary. That said, since there's already a thread
for the D Cn U (aka Nu52), this one would probably stick to pre-Nu52 comics to avoid redundancy.
I've always wondered if there's a justification for Wonder Woman's outfit being designed after a modern-day one-piece swimsuit/leotard instead of something that would fit her Greco-Roman mythological background (e.g. Amazons were more often than not depicted as wearing trousers
◊note ). A few attempted redesigns had her adopt Lady Legionnaire Wear for a skirt, but they never stuck. And then of course, there's her pants-wearing design during J. Michael Straczynski's run (courtesy of artist Jim Lee).

The Batman for whom being rich matters the most is probably, of all versions, Adam West's, since that Bruce Wayne was such a public fixture and mainstay of the community.

Please remember that, ultimately, fictional works of entertainment are just that.I just learned of a hilarious-sounding Elseworld called Batman: Hollywood Knight, where an actor playing Batman in film serials gets shot and thinks he's Batman in real life.
Good thing he wasn't playing Aquaman.

The Protomen enhanced my life. With Abs GA if Ollie is a member of the conspiracy alongside Ra's, Joker, and Veronica Cale, that would be a novel take on the character.
He is generally never the guy in the know.
The plot of Jeff Lemire's Green Arrow reveals that everything about Ollie's ascension to Green Arrow was planned by his father including torturing him and forcing him to kill a man on the island to make him tough. All to groom Ollie into becoming leader of the Arrow Clan like his grandfather was before him.
And in the Ben Percy GA run it reveals his mother Moira is involved in the illuminati banking organization the Ninth Circle.
So Ollie being successfully groomed by his parents into whatever shit they are involved with would be an interesting take to go about.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."So according to a panel from SDCC we got a leak for next month's issue of Superman that reveals the fate of a group associated with Bendis' tenure at DC.
The Bendis Legion apparently have suffered a bus crash, being wiped out entirely by the Absolute Legion of Darkseid.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Ouch. Expected some kind of Take That! at some point, but still not cool.
Wake me up at your own risk.Read Jack Kirby's Fourth World.
I enjoyed it, but I do think it's overrated. There are a lot of fun concepts and ideas and some are even profound. There's some strong themes and worldbuilding especially for back then. In terms of plot the books don't always connect, but they're still part of a larger tapestry and such mass criss-crossing was unprecedented.
But they're not perfect. The biggest sin is the clunky dialouge. It's not terrible but a lot of it's bland and bloated even for back then and brings down the characterization. Some of the characters are keepers but others are half-baked. The books are so focused on the plot and it's various concepts that there's not much room for the characters to breathe. Mr.Miracle's an interesting character on paper but I could barely tell you anything about his personality.
The other problem is they ended too soon. It's not Kirby's fault but you can tell this was the first chapter of a bigger story. There's a lot of potential but most of it remains untapped, at least in Kirby's original saga. If he was able to continue it, it could have been something special.
The Bendis Legion died on the way back to their home planet(s).

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonAnyone else remember the first
DC/Looney Tunes crossover from 2000, Superman And Bugs Bunny? I only had the second issue as a kid and was very worried for my favorite cartoon characters and superheroes, since it ended on a cliffhanger where Mxyztplk made Elmer Fudd and Superman swap powers and personalities and Elmer AND a non-powered Bugs were facing down a laser from the Toyman, while Clark tried to fly by jumping out a window and almost died.
I'm surprised Absolute Green Arrow isn't some Nature Hero defending a Hidden Elf Village on the outskirts of known civilization.
Buldogue's lawyerOver in more events setup justice league dark tomorrow a new hero calling herself legend with a suit of armor and a time ship called the waverider is running from the omegademons who are killing time travellers like wave rider no relation to the ship. She crash lands on the watch tower and doesn't reveal who she is but says she wants to assemble a team of other time travellers so they grab up air wave, plastic man, gold beetle, and some of the heroes stuck in the present after the world's finest/justice league crossover, Jonah hex, Helena Wayne huntress, terry Mc Guiness batman, amazing man, and marylin moonlight and go off to try to save time travellers. They find out that the absolute shadow lass is sending out the omega demons from the vanishing point and they blow up the machine that let them mass produce the omega demons. But when they try to get back to the 21st century they are caught by a temporal firewall.
That sounds like there's a 50/50 chance it's a Canon Immigrant version of Sara Lance/White Canary. A female Legend on a timeship called the Waverider? I'd put good money on it. Especially with another Canon Immigrant already appearing in Terry McGinnis.

It's gonna be fun on the bun!Huh. TIL that DC put out a comic this year that actually had Baby Doll from BTAS as the main villain (in the Two-Face comic series) rather than the random cameos or quick one-off appearances she's had previously. It even canonizes the plot from the BTAS episode and her inexplicably badass personal assistant.
Granted she's not actually the villain of the episode, because she turns out to be under mind control, but still. It's a big step for yet another Canon Immigrant.
Edit: Oops! Meant to put this in the Batman thread. I guess it's still on topic, though.

The new Titans annual is out and written/drawn by Phil Jimenez is all about Donna Troy.
Neatly serves as an excellent character piece and archive on her history containing most of the important aspects in her life including the formation of the Titans and her deceased son Robert Long. She has a very nice moment with Batman where after getting mad at Dick for having a get-together at Wayne manor, Donna managed to talk to him and express how much Dick loves him and how she cares about him. Managed to get Batman to lighten up a bit and allow Dick to socialize more with the team.
In terms of origins we are now back to simply her being a regular girl Diana rescued from a fire and adopted as her sister. Though in a new twist she gains her powers through Diana transferring a portion of her godly powers into Donna through the purple ray.
We also learn about Donna's father. Turns out he is gay, and he left Donna and her mother because he couldn't handle it because he was deeply closested at the time. He met his life partner in Mexico, became a firefighter, and followed Donna's career religiously hoping to find some way to make up to her. Unfortunately he died a month prior and it was his husband Carlos who was sending the letters. They also have a daughter meaning Donna has a sister.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Rereading my Superman Doomsday collection which contains the Hunter/Prey and Doomsday Wars stories.
Say what you will about Doomsday, but I find him so much more tolerable than Failsafe.
It helps that ultimately Doomsday actually loses and can be beaten, usually with clever thinking.
Failsafe is just obnoxiously invincible and always wins.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Doomsday looks cool, you know?
Failsafe looks so derivative. Doomsday had an unique design for the standards of DC at the time. In Image or Marvel at that time he'd look like every other Big Guy but in DC he was radical looking and the Big Ugly Brute look is timeless enough. The goofy green shorts give him that sort of Hulkish feel that is a tested win.
Failsafe looks like yet another Elseworlds Batman armor. Yawn. It makes even Jean Paul's armor look good by default! More like Failfail, amirite?
Please remember that, ultimately, fictional works of entertainment are just that. That is a good point. Failsafe came in at a point we're we are just overloaded with evil Batman clones.
The Dark Knights, the Batman Who Laughs, Tom King's Thomas Wayne, the Colony Bat army from Tynion's Detective Comics run, the rogue Batmen experiments from Batman Incorporated, and also Zur from Zdarsky's run.
Failsafe is basically a slim and sleek robotic version of Batman, which whole technically cool on its own merits isn't very unique when we regularly get tons of rogue Batmen copies so its very derivative.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Ahaha oh wow, even deeper cut than Lesla-Lar this week. Jimmy Olsen's most notorious ex-girlfriend, Bruna the Gorilla Queen! She's a famous actress now and dating Grodd.
I need a break from DC. I know everyone says 'don't worry about continuity', but that's just not how I operate. I need things to make some sort of sense, but casually dropping Silver Age lore into Post-Crisis continuity does not make any sense. Marvel isn't perfect but they're still better about this stuff.

Being rich has always imo been more important to Green Arrow's character description than to Batman's anyway.
Like, Batman is stupid rich, but it's more an Excuse Plot thing for how he gets all those wonderful toys and an excuse for having Alfred around than something that really influences him on a personal level. He has a very complex relationship with being the heir to his parents, but that relationship isn't predicated on them being rich - the inheritance is just the thing they left behind that he wants to protect and could theoretically could be anything. But Bruce himself rarely gives two shits about his billionaire empire beyond "can I use this to facilitate the things I actually care about," and as long as you write in an excuse for batarangs or Alfred or so on you arguably don't lose much without it.
Meanwhile, navigating being a rich man specifically - or even in the situations where he's poor, navigating being an Impoverished Patrician - has generally been more of an emotional plot point for Ollie historically.
