Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectInteresting- so they went with Ryan Potter for Hiro and now they're going with an even younger child for this.
@Swanpride Ignoring classic mythology, isn't Megara kinda sorta considered a princess? At least that's what everyone on Tumblr says.

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.I don't know if this applies everywhere, but for the New Zealand call at least, the word is that they're being pretty specific about casting a Maori/Pasifika girl.
Well, the form mentions it's a Maori/Polynesian role at least.
The other article may be extrapolating from there.
But hey, I like this new trend. Big Hero 6 did it too.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectWell, a movie like Planet 51 isn't going to push anyone to do well. I assume Disney gives more of a damn.

Well, there is the official line-up, there are characters which are not really part of it but sometimes turn up in context with them, for example in Disney Princess magazines, (Alice, because of her role in Kingdom hearts, Tinkerbell before she got her own franchise, Esmeralda, most likely to add some diversity), and there are characters which fans just like to call princesses because for some reason a female lead can't be awesome and interesting on her own, she has to be a princess.
Megara...if she turned up in publications, it wasn't many and a long time ago. But many consider her a princess because she (apparently) married the Son of Zeus. And because she was a princess in the original mythology.
Not sure. I think it's been delayed at this point.

"Disney’s first Polynesian princess movie is a musical in the tradition of “The Little Mermaid” or “Pocahontas.” It opens with a song number with Moana’s birth that brings to mind “The Circle of Life” from “The Lion King.” The story is set 2,000 in the past, where 16-year-old Moana wants to set sail to explore nearby islands. After her grandmother’s death, she sneaks away in a boat (despite her father’s instructions not to do so), along with sidekicks in the form of a pig (Pua) and a rooster (Hei). When she gets stranded on an island, she meets mythical hero Maui (Dwayne Johnson), who wears tattoos that come to life and owns a magical sea hook."
I always said that Disney has a lot of different body types in their movies. It kind of makes sense that if they create a heroine from a culture in which curves are considered beautiful would be curvy.
I really like this design, though. Reminds me a little of "The Croods", but more realistic without being too realistic.
I was thinking she reminded me of Eep. I wonder if that is just the lingering influence of Chris Sanders designs from Lilo & Stitch bleeding through (Since that was the last time we had Polynesian leads in a Disney movie).

I'm having to learn to pay the pricei thought Lilo and Stitch was set in Hawaii.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

I think she's The Chief's Daughter, which is good enough for Disney. Also, what is it with animated heroines having pet pigs as of late? Is that a trend now?
