Oblivion's good. Not as good as this, but good.

From a design perspective it's definitely one of the more beautiful recent science-fiction films.

With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars.

Rotten Tomatoes has this at 90% so far, with audience appreciation at 89%.

Not being interested in Oblivion, I sort of missed how that did as far as RT goes. How was it received?

[up][up] Exactly my thoughts on Oblivion.

Thinking about it, I can say (surprisingly!) that I've enjoyed most of what Tom Cruise has been in; MI 3 & MI 4 (MI 2 was... ehhhh...), Minority Report, Tropic Thunder... Oblivion was a very pretty movie, but mostly shallow, and The Last Samurai felt a bit heavy-handed (though far from bad). And who doesn't love Top Gun, really...

Tom Cruise's performance in Rock of Ages was fucking hilarious. tongue

So apparently movie analyst is predicting that this is gonna flop HARD because of Maleficent and The Fault in Our Stars.

What do y'all think? My interest has certainly been piqued after it got an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, so I dunno

Sci-Fi vs a Cancer movie and a fairy tale. Tough call.

Look I dunno, everybody's just been proclaiming Edge of Tomorrow a flop n shit. I'm pretty sure most of this is due to Tom Cruse's Hatedom, though, which does explain a lot to be honest.

Also I wouldn't underestimate The Fault in Our Stars. Realtalk, shits like EVERYWHERE now, like jesus you can't escape the damn thing. Honestly I don't really know anything about it, just that it's literally become one of those "unescapable meme things", kinda like Snakes on a Plane I guess.

I'm seeing Edge of Tomorrow regardless. Cancer movie is not really something that interests me and I think it's romantic garbage.

If you are part of the Maleficent hatedom, then a good way of getting back at the makers is to go see Edge of Tomorrow. tongue

If you on the other hand like good movies with decent plots and awesome acting, your best bet is to go watch Edge of Tomorrow instead of some mawkish Disease of the Week movie.[lol]

If you think about it, if you have an opinion on Tom Cruise one way or the other, there's no reason not to want to go see Edge of Tomorrow.

If you like Tom Cruise, you get to watch him do his good old fashion action movie schtick.

On the other hand, if you hate Tom Cruise, you get to watch him die. A lot.

It's win-win for audiences, really. tongue

I'm adding to the film's UK gross next week by going to see it at my local cinema.

See if the 3D is better on a smaller screen.

Just saw it, and I liked it. I think I liked Oblivion more, but that may be from going in to that film with zero expectations. Though, I too am worried it won't do as well as it could in the box office. Fault in the Stars and Maleficent had a ton more screenings scheduled than Edge of Tomorrow, and there was a decent sized line at both the ticket and food counters that was made up mostly of the other two movies' target demographic.

As for this film, the enemy Mimics seemed somewhat familiar to me for some reason (save the time manipulation). Like there was a video game with very similar enemies that I can't remember.

Perhaps the Edge of Tomorrow video game? (which you can actually play on the movie's website, it's actually pretty good)

But maybe you mean the Ceph, from Crysis?

Just saw it. It was good. To be frank, I think that it can stand on its own without having to rely on the source material to make sense or be enjoyable, which is quite a feat for most film adaptations of literature, let alone an American adaptation of a Japanese light novel starring Tom Cruise. The only real question I have left as a viewer who hasn't read the original novel is whether or not it's a worthwhile adaptation of the original story, or a "reimagining" that hits all of the right notes in both showing respect to the original but being its own thing as well.

So, has anyone read the book?

I think what made this movie son enjoyable was seeing tom cruise die over and over again. Plus the full metal bitch was kinda hot.

So I watched it yesterday and greatly enjoyed it. Its not the 100 Rotten tomatoes has been giving it, but its still pretty good. I would say about 87
