Kind of hard to discuss the game proper at the Manga/Anime section, so I decided to create a thread here instead for game-related stuff.

For discussion on the related media (4koma, manga spinoffs, LN, and the upcoming anime), visit this thread instead.

We also have a page already for Kantai Collection as well by the way. For gameplay questions, well I can answer some stuff, but its best of one goes to the English fan wiki.

So, I'm going to start this thread with an introduction. I started playing during late September, and am an Admiral in the Palau server. I was too late to join the Yamato event, but managed to squeeze through the Fall 2013 event, and managed to earn both I-19 and Noshiro. Level 72 currently, though my highest leveled ships are Kitakami Kai-2 (level 71) and Ooi Kai-2 (Level 69), though I'm gradually leveling up the rest of my fleet in prep for World 5.

Are there any other admirals here?

Huh, I guess not.

Oh well, might as well just keep the thread going just in case.

Anyway, the tweets over the start of the week pretty much confirm a few things:

  • Large Ship Construction: Capability to build Yamato class ships incoming. However, they're going to have 4-digit construction reqs, so... Uhm.
  • Arpeggio Of Blue Steel tie-in for December 2013. Only Takao has been confirmed for the event, but the question here really is... How can you balance someone with a Gravity Cannon?

As for the rest, the usual wish-listing and rumormongering:

  • Implementation of the Marriage system: So yeah, the "confession at level 99" thing still seems to be going on in the background, so people are wondering if we're going to get acceptance lines on top of the rejection lines already programmed in.

Looks like the update tomorrow (12/11) will add a new remodel for a certain Light Cruiser from the 5th fleet. That kind of narrows it down to Kiso, but it also might be Tama or Kuma. In any case, people are hoping that she'd turn into another Torpedo Cruiser, which would be nice, if only to put someone else on Midget sub rotation.

I've been interesting in playing this, but I don't know if (and where) it's available in English.

It's not available in English, and you literally have to jump a LOT of hoops to register, much less play the game.

That's what I was afraid of. sad I'm really interested in the concept, but seems like I'll have to stick with the related works for now.

More news:

More info from an interview! Let's see....

- The new event will require tremendous amount of bauxite.

- Suicide fleet is greatly discouraged, there is a possibility of them monitoring the number of sunken ships for each admiral, but it is a "military secret."

- There are more hidden stats than we players thought, for example, CL's won't be using maximum potential of 20.3 cm cannons, and effectiveness of main/secondary weapon is not absolute.

- They want to try out maps where the boss moves toward you instead of you to them. Also bosses without a morale system(like previous event bosses).

- MARRIAGE SYSTEM, in other words, raising level cap of ships when particular requirements are reached for individual ship.

- Battle of Midway, yes, you heard it right, Battle of Midway, at the end of season one. With the release of new class ship. armored aircraft carrier, 大鳳(Taiho) for players, built in the same way as Yamato will be, and proximity fuze(anti aircraft equipment) for the enemy fleet.

A few comments, post-update.

  • Man, FINALLY we get experience bars tracking the progress of individual ships.
  • Kiso Kai-2 definitely looks badass, but the remodel only comes at level 65. Yes, a third Torpedo Cruiser is tempting, but that grind...
  • Confirmation for large ship construction. Possible recipes with 7k per resource though? Not good for poorer Admirals.

How much 'Pay to Win' is in this game? Can you practically get ahead without spending a cent on it?

@Flowing Cotton: It's actually very "Free to Win" rather than "Pay to Win" to the point you can actually play through it without really paying actual money to do anything. There are many easy ways to collect resources, get instant repairs, and instant construction without having to pay for money. So on the most part, you can maintain your ships easily without paying for new things.

At most, if your a collector of ship girls or need extra space to build or repair ship girls (As in more than two at a time), or pay for special fruniture, at most you'll likely pay for dock expansions, and extra room to collect girls.

But on the most part you have enough room to do everything without having to really paying actual money for it. Just need a little bit of patience.

Just started playing. Pretty fun, although your option quickly thins out as your resources do.

How can I increase the maximum HP of a ship? All destroyers are practically cannon fodder at around 15 HP.

@Flowing Cotton: Train your destoryers up to level 20. You should be able to get be able to upgrade them to Kai (Mk I). Your destoryers will then have at least 30 HP.

But my advice would be this: Try to mix different kind of ships ASAP.

Destroyers are fast, but frail, but are excellent aginst subs. Light Cruisers, while slightly slower, can do more damage and have better defense. Heavy Cruisers are all round average in all stats, while Carriers are good for launching air attacks, can sometimes launch first strikes (if successful reconnaissance occurs) (and are sometimes considered big eaters of your bauxite, especially Akagi), battleships are your big tanks that can take lots of damage and do lots of damage and are capable of allowing the fleet to perform a second shelling) (usually slow too with the exception of the Kongou Class), but will eat your resources up quickly) Subs are more like the agile tanks since they seem to draw fire from most ships while firing torpedos.

You probably won't get battleships, Carriers (exception of Akagi who you can get from an early quest), and subs till later since they're kinda rare and require a lot of resources (And luck) to get, same applies to finding them.

As for resources here's a good tip: Do as many quests as you can! The quests are important for keeping your fleets supplies in check. There are regular quests, daily quests, and weekly quests you can do. They are all good for resource building. Make sure to select some (up to 5) and try to take care of them.

Also Expeditions, these are VERY important to keeping your resources coming in. If you haven't gotten a fleet of six ships yet, do so to unlock it and your second fleet.

Send your second fleet out to perform the expedition missions to collect your resources. Keep in mind it'll take time for them to return. (Most of the early ones take between 20 minutes - 4 hours in real time)

And above all else, be patient and train your fleet gradually, don't push them too hard (I recommend letting them have 15 - 30 minutes brakes if they're stressed) and also resources come in a little bit at a time on thier own (3 fuel, steel and ammo / 3 minutes and 1 baxuite / 3 minutes.)

If you haven't done so, read up on the Wikia, it'll help you out a lot.

Speaking of Akagi,

For the quest that asks you to sink an enemy carrier fleet (CVL included) and gives you Akagi as a reward, make sure you have your own carrier (CV or CVL) in the fleet while doing it. I've seen many people reported that they didn't get the Akagi bonus because they didn't bring along a carrier to complete the quest.

My say is just try out one of those CV construction formula and hope you get one before picking up the quest, because you won't be seeing Akagi again any time soon if you missed this opportunity. And she's one of the best CV you can have too.

[up]

If you're lucky, you can get Houshou as early as World 1-3, and that'll help a lot with getting Akagi.

Oh, and remodeling is usually 20 for Destroyers and Light Cruisers (exceptions are rare cards like say Yuugumo or Agano, who have higher level reqs), 25 for Heavy Cruisers, and 30 for Battleships and Fleet Carriers. Again, it also depends on the individual ship — Ise and Hyuuga can get converted to BB Vs as early as level 12 for example, while Isuzu gets her first remodel at 12.

When you've gotten fleets unlocked, start running Expeditions for resources using your secondary fleet. Its best to unlock everything up to the second page. For Buckets, spam Expeditions 3 and 4, for quick turnaround for Fuel and Ammo, do expedition 5, expedition 6 for Bauxite. While you're doing expeditions and the like, ALWAYS check your quests — daily quests are also good for resources. Usual setup is 1 Light Cruiser and 4-5 Destroyers, but this can vary too.

For your main fleet, a rule of thumb is 2 sorties will usually drop a ship to orange fatigue. That's the time to swap her out for another rested ship. Rinse and repeat as you level. Rest time to return to "normal" levels is around 15-20 minutes. MVP ships with the Sparkle effect can last 3 sorties though.

Just wondering, does stat increases from Modernization carry over when Remodelling?

@Flowing Cotton: Unfortunately not so. When you upgrade a ship girls thier firepower, Anti-Air, Torpedo power, and armor are reset to somewhere around the base of where the new upgraded version's stats are. Even so, I would still suggest modernizing if you want them to have a fighting chance.

Which I will note, you'll likely need to modernize your girls if you want to have the edge in battle. Because enemy fleet (especially later ones) will knock you back to repairs before you know it.

So if you can save up your girls till Kai or later, that's great. Just don't be surprised if you have to modernize before hand. Just remember it'll help you out battle as you go on.

Also once they reach thier kai or kai two, I will usually go all out with modernizing them since it usually helps them out a bunch.

re Modernization: Generally not worth it until the first Modernization, unless the modernization level is awfully far away (like subs or the rarer D Ds like Makigumo).

Oh and by the way, if you haven't already noticed your ships and your equipment share item slots. This means that if you have too many equipment in your depot (from crafting or simply unequipping default items), you'll soon run out of slots for your girls. Conversely, if you have too many ship girls (if you keep clones for some reason, like Isuzu for Radar production), you'll keep on getting warnings whenever you try to craft something that there's nowhere to put the darned things anymore.

So there's a balance to be maintained. I'm a collector, so I prioritize the girls, so many common items (like the 7mm machineguns, which I could never find a use for) get scrapped.

[up][up] & [up][up][up] That means I've been wasting quite a lot of ships for my starter DD. Still, thanks for the info.

Just got Yuubari, as well as two of those recon-plane types. Barely made it to 2-1 and got wrecked bad there. Taking ships to their remodel levels sure takes a long time, since grinding 1-1 doesn't give out that much Exp.

1-1 is generally a lousy place to grind for starter ships, though I have heard of persistent folk getting to level 10 there. If you're struggling, you might want to consider investing in maybe a single heavy cruiser. Hagurou carried my fleet well into 2-2 for example.

Best not to rush to 2-4 though. The place murders level 30s, so take your time building up your resources and fleets.

Just an observation while I was doing the PVP quests the other day, but there are some players who seem to somehow notice that you're targeting them, and change their fleet composition to either compensate or, more commonly, just be jerks. In my experience, I saw a guy with a 4 BB and 2 CV setup (pretty standard for bully fleets), but when I decided to change my lineup to 3 subs, when I clicked on the same player again, he had changed his setup to a single Yukikaze, and a low-leveled one at that.

Another friend, Fencedude, had an opposing fleet change to a set of level 1s in the middle of him refuelling. Sheesh.

Take note, you're supposed to leave your highest leveled ship as a flagship when you go offline for a while, as a matter of courtesy to other players (so they can use your ships to level up theirs). Leaving level 1s while already a lvl 90+ admiral is just dickery.
