I'm personally not one to break games or farm resources (at least to an unreasonable extent - in Minecraft, I'll engage in some animal husbandry or grow myself a field of wheat, but I won't create a machine that abuses the game's spawn mechanics and slaughters (in-universe) sentient creatures to get a few experience points). It ruins the fun and magic of the game and the accomplishment of successes. If you want to have all the supplies you need without putting in the effort to get them in the way the designers intended, pop into Creative mode or download a debug tool. If you're interested in "optimization", go play Factorio or a mod that focuses on that, instead of breaking the game or abusing game mechanics in a way that the creators of the game have denounced and said was a bad way to play and acting smug about the fact you do so.

[[/rant]]

Anyway, seeing videos and stuff about Rodina have gotten me excited about this game, whenever it does come out. Any word on a release date?

No official one but I'm going to guess that it'll release sometime in 2015. It should be fine so long as it doesn't release around the same time as Star Citizen. note

[up][up] that was rather rude. If other people playing differently then you makes you so angry perhaps you shouldn't play with other people.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

[up]Meh. I know the feeling of where he's coming from and at the same time that's probably why I like games that don't care if you completely and utterly break their rules so much. Cause if you want go around all god-mode like doing as you please (Terraria and Starbound) the devs don't even mind. But if you play by the rules they still offer plenty of challenge in the form of Hardmode and the Moon events.

[up][up] I don't, though that's more to do with me simply not liking Minecraft multiplayer. (I'm just not a fan of the inherent lag.)

And I don't have an issue with people using infinite resources to make whatever they want in Minecraft. But I don't like how some people act like making a machine that, for instance, takes advantage of zombie spawn mechanics to slaughter them by the truckload for XP isn't any different than using a debug tool to spawn yourself all the XP you need. What I like even less is that the only reason that the bug hasn't been patched out is because the devs don't want to deal with the resulting whinestorm.

[up] Eh, I prefer not to use grinders so it doesn't really matter to me.

But back on topic, the devteam has said that the game will be completely multiplayer, but it'll do the opposite of what most MMOs do—rather than group all of the players into one small area, they'll be scattered all around the edge of the universe and will very rarely interact with each other directly, though players will be able to see who discovered a world or a resource seam or trading route on their HUD (something we've already seen in the trailers). They've also said that the series logo (shown here) is something called "The Atlas" In-Universe, though they haven't revealed much else about it. I'm also wondering if the game'll feature any sort of construction element in it; since it would allow you to simply settle down on a planet and use it as a staging point for your excursions into the universe. Care to speculate?

EDIT: I've also done some serious description and entry-pimping to the tropes page and added the game's logo and Tag Line.

Does that mean that it'll require constant internet access?

That won't really be an issue for me, but I know some people would like to play offline.

Like me! Some of the time anyway...

Perhaps it will work like similar games?

I'm not sure, honestly; the devteam hasn't revealed much about how that'll work beyond what they already have revealed. Though I can imagine that if you're playing offline you'll be able to update the in-game database to the latest version if you so desire or just turn it off and discover everything for yourself.

They've also said that they're planning on revealing something big pretty soon, so keep an eye out.

So I'm only just now getting excited for this and I like what I'm hearing so far.

Don't wanna get too hyped though, it's awfully ambitious and I have a sinking feeling it won't turn out great.

Don't worry, even if you don't like it there will be others that do. (Unless it turns out to be So Bad, It's Horrible.) I'll bet that it will be a great game even if it doesn't live up to my expectations.

And assuming it stays on PS 4, I won't be able to play it for an age anyway.

Is it not coming to any other platform? Bit of a shame.

I wonder how they'll handle travel. If you can have a "hub" area with all of your gear then that disincentives exploring far from home unless there's some mechanic to quickly get back home and to the front.

I heard it's on PS 4 for a while and then on PC.

I'll probably be getting it for PS 4 if at all

[up] It'll be a timed exclusive, hitting PC and the X Bone later.

That's basically what "exclusive" means now - look at Ryse and Dead Rising 3.

[up][up]I'll get the PC Port when it comes out. Hopefully it'll be a Polished Port and not a Porting Disaster, but we'll only be certain once that port comes out.

[up] That depends on who's publishing it, which is something I don't know.

But as long as Ubisoft doesn't have anything to do with it, it should be fine.

[up]Ah, Ubisoft; maligned maker of a thousand Porting Disasters. I'm hoping the port will be made in-house at Hello Games (though that may be a big thing to ask a devteam of four people).

In the meantime, I've made some inbounds for the tropes page and did some more entry pimping on the page itself.

Not interested in pure exploration. Wake me when there's a game where you can explore, then use the resources you've found to build and develop an entire species. You know, Spore done RIGHT.

Sounds pretty much like what we already know. Though I'm interested in the whole "no story" idea. The thought that players make their own is interesting.

I for one can't wait to explore this universe they've created

Is not impressed.
