Needs Help (titles crowner 3/4/14): Bakers Dozen

A couple of issues:

1) Is this really a trope? Trivia, maybe?

2) The name. It's a preexisting term describing something not remotely like what the term is supposed to be applied to. (Try playing Guess The Trope with it.)

The first question seems like it's better off in the Trivia thread in Long Term Projects. I don't know what Baker's Dozen means beyond what is said here.

A "baker's dozen" is 13 of something. Anything. Supposedly dating back to the Middle Ages, and a particular town or area when there were strict rules about how much bread could be sold for, and a baker that sold short weight could be fined heavily. Allegedly, bakers there got in the habit of giving 13 small loaves for a dozen to make sure that they didn't sell short weight even accidentally. There's some question about the legitimacy of this etymology, but that's what the term means — getting 13 for the cost of a dozen.

So, the only relationship between the name and the subject of the page is that the extra content is in the form of a thirteenth episode.

I agree that it's most often trivia, and that the name is poor.

I think it worth noting that this has only 82 wicks while the redirect Bonus Episode has 21 wicks. I think a rename to some variant of Bonus Episode would be in order. Or even a rename to Bakers Dozen Bonus Episode might clarify the meaning.

I think that renaming this to Bonus Episode is a very good idea — there's nothing specific to 13 episodes in the trope, it's just a common number.

Ah, if there's a simple switch to be done, I can get behind that.

Any objections to also moving this out of "actual trope" territory?

Anyone more people have any thoughts on switching this with the Bonus Episode redirect? Do we need a crowner or can we get enough consensus in the thread discussion?

Perhaps for moving it out of trope territory, since that hasn't been discussed much. I don't see any opposition to switching to the redirect.

No objection here, bonus episode is much more clear about what this is, plus Baker's Dozen could conceivably be a broader trope about receiving extra goods for the price of what you paid for x amount(though I think it would be People Sit On Chairs, but hey, you COULD make the argument!)

About it being trivia...yeah I could see the argument there. I'll whip up a single prop crowner for it

Actually, now that I think about it, switching the name with the redirect also came up. Is that legit to add to the crowner as a non-mutually exclusive option, just to gauge, or is that a separate matter?

A Single Proposition crowner can take only one option. Also, given that Trivia status is not exclusive with what you are proposing, it could go into the next crowner.

I assume that switching with a redirect is considered rename.

Whether or not it is, I concur Bonus Episode is a better name for this in either case.
