May the Rain Come

Came upon this via one of those Top Web Comic lists as a result from voting. It's interesting enough to keep me clicking through. Anthropomorphized animals, basically human except for have fur, scales, etc, features William Weasel, a soldier from an unspecified war (probably World War I or II based on the uniform) returning back home to find that his father died in his absence and the town has been suffering a drought for the last five years. The art is kind of odd in that the foreshortening of muzzles frequently makes them disappear, making the main character move between being a weasel or a human depending on which angle you see his face at. The storyline is well done, a bit slow, but a lot of it has to do with William trying to find meaning in his life after the war and sincerely struggling with his faith due to said perceived lack of meaning.

Also features Sonia Stoat, who suffers an unspecified mental disorder that leads to her not really thinking like anything is, in part because the majority of her memories don't stick. She seems to be serving as a potential love interest.

There's also a minor subplot going on in that William hasn't cried in five years, since his brother Willard died in front of him during the war, also the same length as the drought. A neighbor has suggested an old wive's tale that droughts are the result of one person holding back their tears, suggesting that when William is again able to cry, the drought will be broken.

Ah, and the movies out two months or so into the strip include Song Of The South, It's a Wonderful Life, and The Best Years of Our Lives, the setting is 1946, after World War II, assuming their universe runs parallel to ours. Still enjoying it, still kind of freaked out when the characters face the reader and suddenly go human.

Finished it. Very enjoyable. The art stays about the same from start to finish, but it's quite competent, beautiful when it comes to the watercolor backgrounds and slightly stilted when it comes to the characters. The story is nice, although I feel like it kind of glazes over the problem issues of marrying someone with significant mental problems.
