This is 13 to 1 in favour of a rename. Can we call this?
Yes; calling for renaming.
Alt Names crowner. Needs more options, of course.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNow we need suggestions for new names.
The Police Inspector is slight clearer than the old name and has the advantage of simplicity. There is also Lead Police Detective which communicates the idea of someone being a detective and an authority figure. It doesn't make the distinction from Da Chief as clear as I would like, but I can't think of a way of articulating all the details without an excessively cumbersome name.
I've gone ahead and hooked the crowner...although its title is completely jacked up.
<Sigh> Made a better one here.

- The Police Inspector is at 0-1 yea/nay.
Unstarred this thread, since it's not yet in the wrap-up stage and the crowner needs more votes to be call-able.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAdded Senior Detective, because said character is usually not amoung the youngest characters. Seniority connotes authority over junior members.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanTo be really picky, seniority and rank are different things. The "inspector" could be junior to his or her subordinates, and you could have a "senior detective" of inferior rank who could be the de-facto leader of the team.
Which is why I said "usually" instead of "always", and "connotes" instead of "denotes".
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I personally like Head Detective, but I balk at adding an entry this late.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNot when only 5 votes split them.
I tossed it on for you, as well as Lead Detective.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. Please note that the word "Detective" can also mean "Private Eye" instead of "Police Detective". So since this trope is meant to be about police, then those names with just "detective" aren't such a good idea.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Technically true, except that a PI kind of invariably operates on his own. Putting it in the context of any organization makes it clear he's, well, part of an organization.

What would be the best way to fix the page?
In response to crazysamaritan's further revision of the rewrite that I started: Much better. Thanks.
Anyone else have any ideas about descriptions and/or name?
