Laconic: Kind of a mild-mannered parody of Super Smash- ow! I, I mean-
It's a thread that was on Newgrounds before it jumped ship and made itself a new home on Proboards, Super Paint Brawl. At first, a childish indulgence. Then, we saw some real artistic talent come onto the scene. It had some connection with a site called Facepunch, but I wasn't really around for that.
Super Paint Brawl was originally called "MS Paint Brawl", due to the fact that everyone mostly used Microsoft Paint. Fortunately, several people got a lot better at drawing and started using more advanced programs. New talent is always welcome, however, none of our adventures are exclusive to god-tier artwork. Rule of thumb is to try not to mess up continuity with stick figures. We've moved past that since the days of Microsoft Paint and Newgrounds.
That said, the goal of Super Paint Brawl: nothing really. Draw, draw, and then draw some more. We have/have had battles, wars, red vs blue capture the flag fights, parties, social events, fighting tournaments, profanity, violence, fan fics, music contests, races, "one vs all" threads, etc. We've had threads where characters got to go the future, where we made up medieval versions of them, and threads where they all contracted a zombie virus and had to search for the cure.
There's a lick of storyline: a world called 'The Void' where numerous beings with supernatural powers, Brawlers, exist for two purposes: partying, and messing up each others' business. There are two main villains, Illidon, a sort of Cthulian menace who inherits the abilities of all currently active characters, and Abrigor, the universe's resident version of Satan.
Think of SPB as one big webcomic that's been dissected into "free-for-all battles/one-on-one-battles/side stories/silliness", and things get easier from there.
Some examples of thread content are:
Scriptless Fighting - This is where you pretty much have fun with your drawing program. Pick your fighter, and raise hell in 'The City', the generic, nameless city inside of the Void.
Red vs Blue: Battle for the Flag - Pretty self-explanatory. Brawl with the intent of capturing the enemy flag.
Medieval Times - Use the medieval ancestor of your characters and participate in an adventure in a world of superstition, fear, and Gargoyles.
1 Week Battle: One of my personal favorites. In an effort to challenge Brawlers, your characters are pitted against other character, and you have 1 week to draw the next panel/s. If you don't upload your picture within a week, your characters will be killed most heinously. Sort of like the Battle Race from the new Twisted Metal.
Grudge Matches - These are the mano-a-mano, the duels at dawn, the title matches for the Brawl Belt. You can challenge another player in a grudge match and keep going until your character can't feasibly keep going anymore, until someone taps out, or until you get bored.
There is also a more general FAQ for additional questions.
Quoted from the actual FAQ: What kind of art style is preferred?
"Cartoony, realistic, anime-inspired, it doesn't matter. Most people here started out with sticks and moved onto "fullbodies" (real people), so no one should feel bad about their pictures. It should be noted that proportion and detail are generally held high on this site, so try to pay attention to it. Also some people like to be funny, but others like to fight brutally and use awesome attacks. This is all a matter of preference. Do what you want.
In the end, there's a plethora of finished adventures (and incomplete ones, and some still in-progress) in the Main Arena you can read. Warning, there is a fair amount of Early-Installment Weirdness. But if you want to start out, try Scriptless Fighting, or review some earlier threads until you get the flow of things.
We invite artistic liberty (so don't get angsty and try to copy somebody else's style if you'r drawing their character, just try to be anatomically precise) and creativity. Violence should be expected, profanity isn't far away (though, don't expect one giant swearing match, we're somewhat civilized), and the occasional amount of nudity comes into it.
If you're interested and accept the terms, then give it a try.
''What is "Super Paint Brawl"?''

You can see that "fighting" is kind of a theme here. Canon isn't very strict, there is a lot of nonsensical adventuring and the sort. You draw and create your own characters, make backstories for them, and upload them to the '''Fighting Roster'''
and then you're set to initiate or participate in whatever storyline matches your fantasy. Be sure to check the '''Main Arena'''
. That's where the action happens.
