So it just so happens when we're on Doremy that she happens to be revealed as a new character for Antinomy of Common Flowers.
Ain't that something?
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.Makes me wish she and Kotohime would've swapped positions in the queue, that would have been something to see, an exceedingly random PC-98 character returning for a fighting game.
Wonder how easily Doremy will fit in? On the one hand, she apparently knows Gensokyo well enough to sell her pillows there, and has probably learned a lot about the place just from interacting with its dreamers. On the other hand, she's been interacting with dreamers, so that might skew her data somewhat. She might keep watching the sky nervously for that giant catfish that menaced Meiling.
I also wonder what she thinks about Sumireko and her current method of visiting Gensokyo. And whether Doremy sensed something odd about a certain Maribel girl who's popped in from time to time.
Bah, would you believe there's only a single piece of fanart adding Doremy to LLS?
Other observations after diving through the 'booru - Doremy's primary shipping target is overwhelmingly Sagume, which is pretty impressive given that their only interaction took place off-camera in their game's background information. And while some characters get stuck in the same poses, Doremy's commonly depicted with a certain facial expression I'm not sure how to describe, something sort of like a Cat Smile but with more going on with the lower lip? Not sure where that came from.
At any rate, picdump:
Yeah, that's sort of it, an almost diamond-shaped mouth
Maybe it's a catfish smile?
Sweet, Terajin

Where do baku go when they sleep?

Welp, I'm sure we'll have more to say when AoCF comes out and we see why a baku's getting involved in an Incident involving "Perfect Possession." Maybe she's there on behalf of the Lunar Kingdom, cleaning up their Urban Legend mess? Sagume roped her into another mission?
But since it's been a while, so any final thoughts before we move on to Marisa? Mine's that Doremy should be able to settle the question of whether or not Gensokyo is Yukari's dream or not, once and for all.
I feel... something.
What is that book that Doremy carries supposed to be anyway? A dream journal?
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.Dream Journal: A special diary that documents the sweetness and bitterness of all dreams. Accuracy +50%.
Well, she can try. But like the void, Yukari's mind cannot be grasped that easily. Even the dream master will have grand difficulties ascertaining this possibility.
If Gensokyo was Reimu's dream, it'd be a half-assed one where all the buildings in the village are false fronts propped up by two-by-fours, and the terrain repeats itself every thirty seconds as you fly over it.
We'll see more of Doremy soon enough, but for now let's move on. Coming up will be the household of Eientei, Hatate, and a traitor. But first, hide your spellbooks, it's

Write-up:
Just your perfectly ordinary magician, zipping through the air on her broomstick, blasting at obstacles with an arcane laser. Marisa Kirisame was encountered in the early days of Reimu Hakurei's incident-resolving career as the minion of an antagonistic spirit, but quickly struck out on her own, and was soon investigating the same disturbances as her rival - which occasionally leads to the two clashing over who will be the one to resolve them. Nowadays it's hard to imagine one without the other, and Marisa can often be found hanging out at the Hakurei Shrine when she and Reimu aren't teaming up to deal with the latest threat to Gensokyo.
Unlike her rival, Marisa is a hard worker, and spends a good chunk of her time off researching new spells to stay competitive. On the other hand, she's also a brazen thief willing to steal spellbooks from other magicians in order to reverse-engineer their magic, though Marisa insists she's only "borrowing" the goods and the youkai can have them back when she dies of old age. She's also a shameless liar bold enough to prevaricate right in front of the judge of the dead. But despite (or maybe because of) these flaws, Marisa has become one of Gensokyo's most popular residents, and is a good person at heart.
Relationships:
- Reimu Hakurei (bestie)
- Mima (Lady Mima)
- Alice Margatroid (vitriolic ally)
- Patchouli Knowledge (unwilling book lender)
- Nitori Kawashiro (partner in crime)
- Rinnosuke Morichika (good ol' Kourin)
- The Three Fairies of Light (neighbors)
- Tsuchinoko (pet)
- Kirisame family (estranged)

Maybe it's a way of venting all that frustration about Reimu inheriting her place on Gensokyo's scoreboard instead of having to work for it, all those yin-yang orbs to the face over the years, general jerkass-ness, etc. If they had a copy of Mario Kart or something, Marisa might be able to work off that aggression in a less destructive manner.
I guess it's possible that Mima's been quietly paying visits, or even mentoring, Marisa all these years off-screen, but the fanon seems to be that Mima's just gone, abandoned her. You know, like all of Marisa's other paternal figures.
Marisa Kirisame:
A human magician who resides in the Forest of Magic. Reimu's best frenemy. Very hardworking and oddly reliable.
Marisa sure has come a long way. Despite being a constant liar and stealing form her peers, she pours a lot of effort into improving herself physically, mentally and magically. Marisa's also quite knowledgeable about a ton of things. She's also peerless when it comes to striking up conversations with a good amount of people and youkai.
Hm. Marisa has characteristics that Reimu don't and vice-versa. They compliment each other. Like the Yin-Yang symbol.
Though it's taken her a while to become that, a foil I mean. Her dialogue and behavior aren't much different from Reimu's in the PC-98 games, and since there was so little supplementary material available, there wasn't much to distinguish the two. But little by little she's become the yin to Reimu's yang, or yang to yin, however it works.
So I wonder when ZUN made a conscious decision to develop Marisa in that way? When did he realize this character he'd come up with as a henchwoman to a more important villainess worked so well when played off his main character? Did he plan it all along, or did Marisa sort of steal the precious spotlight?
I'm also curious where Marisa got the idea for her look. I didn't think Western-style, pointy-hat-and-broomstick witches were popular in late nineteenth century Japan, but maybe some books circulated before the Boundary went up. Or Rinnosuke found one while looking for inventory and loaned it to a young Marisa, inadvertently changing the course of history.
Some authors make her half-Japanese, perhaps related to traders coming through Nagasaki, or connected in some other way to travelers who visited before the barrier went up.
Also, given that the Touhou universe has metaphysical underpinnings that we don't, Marisa might have a lot of other ways to come into contact with the idea of being a black-capped witch that we don't.
Hmm. Mima's casual trolling and tendency towards bald-faced lies. Ellen's (or Yuki's) fashion sense. Chiyuri's speech patterns. Yuuka's magic. What's the Thin White Duke quote?
So how deep would we have to dig to get to the original Marisa Kirisame? That perky minion from SoEW? Or was even that a construct? And how much of Marisa's past life did she cast off to become Mima's follower? Just how different was she when she still lived with her family?
Or I guess we could cheat and consult a satori to learn who Marisa is deep down, and be reassured that for all her rough edges, she doesn't like innocents coming to ham. Though this does beg the question of how, if she is at her core a good person, Marisa still started off working for someone like Mima.

I'm taking the simple approach, and just think all of those as different realms altogether.
Doremy's Dream World is the Dream World. The world people visit in their dreams.
Yuuka and the Getsu's Worlds are simply their own pocket dimensions they created. It's not like it's impossible. Hermits can create them. Shinki has a full-blown "pocket" dimension, complete with sentient inhabitants.
The simplest approach, is PC-98 doesn't exist and Doremy's world is the only dream world
