When plot is basically how the Moon princesses basically stomp your waifus, there may not be a lot of fanart of them.
"Thanos is a happy guy! Just look at the smile in his face!"Or doujins, or remixes, or appearances in fangames unless they are the type that add literally everyone.
Stella ~Part 3 (Atelier Shallie)The Silent Sinner in Blue manga was just not very good.
Lunatic Runagate starring Nic Cage was better.
Perhaps if CILR had been fully available from the get go, things may have been different because SSIB is just not good. The art is lazy and the plot moves at a snail's pace throughout most of its run.
And because of the relative ease of translation manga compared to the amazing walls of text, thats what people got as their first and only exposure to the Moonahimes.
Well, that and their sublime appearance in Inaba of the Inaba's Inaba: Inaba. Now that was a modern day classic in the making.
Of course, since most doujins and fanart comes from the Japanese market I have to just assume that most people didn't read any bit of Moon Patrol Alpha and just went on how other people reacted.
The doujin community is a bit incestuous - building memes on top of memes because a portion of the people involved don't play the games and rely on other fan depictions on guidance on how to portray characters.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersTouhou doujins are also like 50% EoSD because no one cares about anything that happened after that.
Well terrible things like Aya happened after EOSD. You can't be too careful.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersBut the Satori sisters, Kappa Klub, Myouren Group, Taoist Group, Sanae, Mokou and Sukuna's friendship adventures, Kokoro, Lost Emotion, and Tenshi came after Eo SD too so there's always another side to the coin.
Stella ~Part 3 (Atelier Shallie)Those are all still less popular than the cast of EoSD though. And when you consider the fact that even if they were equally popular, there's still the huge backlog of EoSD stuff, it's clearly an insurmountable obstacle.

We all love our beloved vampire ojou sama however it seems that most doujins 'forget' about the characters. The Watatsukis could had been introduced better as they seem to be God mode Sues who cannot defeat any member of the cast barring Eirin and Kaguya. CILR seems to be more Lunarians are just awesome and everyone is well....not as awesome as the fans are concerned.

"Thanos is a happy guy! Just look at the smile in his face!"Here's the thing in addition to them having a not great introduction that was not designed to endear them to fans:
they are isolated. They have no reason to interact with anyone besides the Eientei people.
Even the sorta exiled underground people are more social with the rest of the cast.
And having them interact with the Eientei interferes with Kaguya on Eirin or Bunny on Eirin or Bunny on Bunny or Kaguya on Murderhobo or Eirin on Maid on Bunny on the Kitchen Counter.
Because what drives most fanworks is shippery.
Realistically (which often doesn't matter but sorta does) the Watatsukis would not willingly interact with pretty much most everyone else in the setting and there are already preferred humppiles set up for the people they would deign to interact with.
They have their own little social group on the moon I guess but that would involve caring about Raysen who is the worst, at least 1.7 times worse than Aya.
So it really all adds up to nobody really wanting anything to do with them. You could have them go to Rumia's birthday party but that would be out of character for them even beyond the flagrant OOC in most fanworks.
And the only gift they'd bring is smug superiority and a gift certificate to Circuit City.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHey, Rumia's trying to upgrade her rig. That'd be perfect!
-Rumia standing in front of a closed store, a single tear stubbornly refusing to track down her cheek-

Wow, we got a good couple of pages out of the Mooninites. Guess we'll have to wait and see if we discover more about them in time for the next review period.
So next will be Kagerou, followed by the evil tree and it looks like Sakuya Izayoi! But first, look, up in the sky! It's a bird.
Stage: The Path Where Humans Vanish
Beasts and youkai are what stroll at midnight, even on the humans' roads. There shouldn't be a human form in sight, at the least.
BGM: "Song of the Night Sparrow ~ Night Bird"
Theme: "Deaf to All But the Song"
Spellcard Motif: Birds, Birdsong, and... Poison?
Notable spellcards: IN, GoM, PoFV
Vocal Sign "Howl of the Horned Owl," Deadly Toxin "Poisonous Moth's Dance in the Dark," Hawk Sign "Ill-Starred Dive," Night-Blindness "Song of the Night Sparrow," "Blind Nightbird," Bird Sign "Human Cage," Bird Sign "Mysterious Song"
Write-up:
A night sparrow youkai who can drive people insane with her singing, and not just in the "won't that bird shut up?" sort of way. Her songs can also cause night blindness, and it would seem that Mystia has command over other birds and certain insects. She also has a great deal of confidence, and uniquely challenges the heroines immediately after fighting them as a mid-boss. This doesn't end well for her.
But birdbrain or not, Mystia's also savvy enough to run a food stand, and exploits her ability by selling lamprey to late night wanderers that "cures" them of their night blindness. She also has a wilder side, and has recently been holding punk rock "guerrilla concerts" with a certain yamabiko. It just goes to show that in Gensokyo, even a relatively minor youkai is more than just a beastly critter that menaces people on roads at night.

Current earworm: "Awe of the Unknown"Mystia is an entrepreneur, taught by the best, probably Tewi.
Everything is relative.Mystia is probably one of my favorite characters in Touhou, and quite honestly she's also one of the more diverse ones.
Mystia has a few talents on her, from singing, cooking, and quite possibly the ability to knit gothic clothing cause lets face it, I doubt Rinnosuke would've had some of those in his shop. But then again, Mystia is apparently terrible at reading kanji, so you'd have to wonder how she would've been able to read a book on how to knit...
Of course, Mystia has a friend in the form of our resident yamabiko Kyouko. You have to kind of wonder how those two met each other. Did Mystia bring her food stand to the Myouren Temple? Did Kyouko meet Mystia before Kyouko became a part of the temple? There's a lot of information to fill out there, but the guaranteed info is that those two are pretty close friends.
Their band Choujuu Gigaku is a punk-rock group of two, and from the sounds of things they are very popular amongst the Youkai and a couple humans from the village like Akyuu. Of course, there are detractors of the group, but that doesn't seem to have stopped them from doing what they want.
Mystia and Wriggle was a popular pairing for a while there, and while there isn't anything suggesting they are friends in canon there isn't anything saying to the contrary either, even once Kyouko came into the picture. Perhaps Wriggle acts as a supplier for Mystia's gothic clothing knitting? Like, Wriggle gathers up some silkworms or whatever? I don't know, it's an interesting thought.
So yeah, generally speaking, Mystia is a pretty active Youkai, and probably one who doesn't eat humans, especially since that'd be bad for business. She's a birdbrain in many ways, but she seems to have a knack for business, surprisingly...
Oh, and one last thing of note, she's one of three characters who can have the honor of having "in-character" vocal remixes within the music remixing community. As in, it's not hard to imagine her singing the lyrics of the vocal remixes for her themes. Same goes for Kyouko and Raiko.
Stella ~Part 3 (Atelier Shallie)Mystia is businesswoman and musician, she is also a western bird that migrated(?) to Japan and became a youkai.
"Thanos is a happy guy! Just look at the smile in his face!"I remember there being a gag for a while where Mystia would protest the eating of poultry, what with it being bird-eating and all. Haven't heard anything about that in a while. My take is that it was an advertising gimmick once the whole night-blindness scam started to fade. Something along the lines of "Eating those lovely birds is barbaric! Why not try some tasty eel instead?" There are too many avian avivores for me to think she somehow finds eating birds really repugnant.
That said, while she doesn't find eating birds strange she does consider eating unfertilized eggs to be, if not morally wrong, then gross as all hell.
Should've checked the list.We haven't gotten much from her at all recently. Her appearence in the three fairies manga was a while back and she was still selling eel and also hawking ectasy booze secret sparrow recipe donchaknow. And the Choujuu Gigaku thing we've only heard from Kyouko. Mystia is there too but we don't really know what her thought process is except of course she likes singing whole bunches. Its basically the common element of everything she does.
It is weird that Mystia (and Aya) take a stand against eating chicken. Its not like they're chickens and birds do eat birds so. Touhou is weird about that. At least with Reisen you can guess that she's doing her anti-rabbit-eating thing as a misguided attempt to ingratiate herself with the inabas who don't really care.

Do you think there might be a joke there about her misinterpreting the name and then sticking to her guns?
Huh, weird.
"I'm not for eating!"
"Um, you're not a chicken"
"What? Chicken? Um, bird solidarity! We must be free to birb in peace without worrying about being eaten!"
"If this booze didn't get me so rekt I'd stop coming here."

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI don't think you can even call it a misinterpretation. It would be like if you met some monkey-eating aliens who said "Boy, I sure do love eating primates".

I think you'd have to get rekt to stay at that level of discourse.
"How To Serve Birbs? How delightful!"
I don't know where you're getting the idea that they forgot anything. Other than perhaps evidence of Toyohime gleefully smuggling bunnies without angst.
