Trenchcoat Brigade has a laconic definition of John Constantine Expy.

More detailed definition: An Occult Detective with a cynical attitude wears a Badass Longcoat and smokes heavily.

The Occult Detective aspect has been forgotten in several examples, and I most especially noticed it when a Detective who wears a Badass Longcoat was re-added after I deleted it for being misuse.

I'm thinking that John Wisdom from Excalibur counts, he isn't an official detective, but he does work with sorcerers and sorceresses sometimes.

There seem to be plenty of insufficient context examples on this page? Shall we just comment them out?

Whatever. I just removed all the questionable examples to the discussion page, and I also namespaced most of what's left. If people can explain how the questionable examples fit the trope they can readd them.
