It was a quiet afternoon in Felderton. At least, it had been.

"OHHHHH YEAAAAAHHHH!!!" the pack of motorcycle riders screamed as they rode down the street, ignoring just about every traffic law in existence. They didn't care one bit. They just existed in the moment, riding onward without hesitation.

"This is our town! Get the hell out of the way!" the one in front roared. Both vehicles and pedestrians ran for safety, some ducking inside nearby stores. However, none of them were really frightened. They knew what was about to happen to these thugs.

Sooner or later, the heroes would come...

Meanwhile, the Felderton police chief, Michael Duggins, was checking his e-mail. He made it a habit to check it every day, despite a couple of officers making fun of him behind his back. He was smart enough to know that e-mail was becoming the future, but some people were just too set in their ways to start using it. Their loss, he thought.

This time, though, one message caught his eye. Opening it up, he read through it, sweating as he did so. Getting to end, he bolted to his feet and ran out of his office as fast as he could. Which, given his age, was not all that fast.

"What's wrong?" his secretary, a young man, asked him as he barreled around the corner.

"Get every super we can on the phone. Get them here now!" Duggins shouted. Stunned by the normally calm chief's answer, the secretary dashed to his desk and began calling every super he could reach...

Revolver was on it.

Weaving in and out of traffic, another bike joined the pack. Its rider wore a heavy coat, obscuring any sort of clues about his build, and a wide-brimmed hat that looked like a replica of Revolver's—probably just merch bought off a street vendor. A bag sat on the back of the bike. The bike made its way to the front of the pack, getting right alongside the leader. He let out a cheer just like the first guy, and pumped a fist into the air. Then, with a little fiddling and a lot of no-hands bike riding, the figure flung his coat off, revealing the poncho beneath and sending it flying back towards the other riders. This was no fan! It was Revolver himself!

"Hey man. Nice day for a ride." The psychic cowboy growled at the head rider. He reached into his bag and pulled out its cargo—one of two boxes of nails, picked up from Home Depot before arriving. He began calmly slotting his nails into the orbit around his index finger. "I'll just give you the token chance to pull over. Not that you'll take it."

Kris, being on duty in her patrol car was called first. She turned around and headed for building. There would be other people at the meeting, but she was already in her crime fighting uniform. No one would know who the real Peacekeeper was. She got out of her car, she pace was brisk and her back straight. She was not just any superhero, she was the peacekeeper and she enjoyed her Job. As she went into the waiting room for the Chief, she greeted the Secretary warmly.

Behind the pack of motorcycles was a truck, keeping away from the back of the pack as much as it could while still following them. Inside the truck, music was coming out the speakers at a level that only assisted the genre in getting Gaius' blood pumping.

"Not every day I get the chance to pick a fight with a biker gang!", he yells over the music to himself, hardening his skin into a dark bark as he continued behind the motorcycle pack. He really didn't want to be unprepared at this high a speed and he'd be damned if he was going to let the fact he was using his civilian truck stop him from joining in on the fun.

One Gwen Hanson was enjoying of a nice bowl of noodles and vegetables in her apartment as the cellphone rang, with a snap of the hands, unnecessary but enjoyable for her, the phone appeared into her hand. Recognizing the number she smiles "Lady Blink at your service, what do you need?" she said

Ah, Mozart, such a beautiful composer. His spirit was practically in the air as Antoinette sat at her piano, drea- SCREEEEEEEEEEEE

"Aw hell no."

She stood up, looking out the window. A gang of bikers was riding along, ruining her music. This was not good. She went to her closet, and in a few moments, she was in costume, as the Maestro. She sat back down, playing 8 bars of what seemed like "Defying Gravity," and her piano keys flew out the window, making platforms at her feet. She walked out on to them, heels clacking, and looked at the direction they went.

She followed in a sprint after the gang, about 10 metres above them, with the piano keys making midair stepping stones for her. When they hit a red light, she would stop them, she told herself.

Opening the door, Ursa major walked into the station, a cup of coffee hovering a few inches from her mouth. She took a sip as she headed past the desk of the chief's young secretary, and into the waiting room where Kris already was. "I came as soon as I could," she said. "What's the situation?"

She looked over at Kris. "Afternoon, Peacekeeper," she added, "How are you doing?"

A figure in white streaked across the Felderton sky, a blue cape flapping in her wake. Carried through the air by a swirling current of wind, gathered and shaped by her power, she grinned as the buildings flashed past down below. She would never, ever, get tired of flying, she thought, especially on afternoons like this.

A buzzing vibration from her side caught her attention, and she came to a halt, a swirling air current holding her aloft as she took her phone from a pocket of her costume. A tiny nudge at her power created a zone of calm air around her head, so she didn't drown out the conversation as she hovered above the busy street, no doubt giving a few attentive commuters something to talk about at the office.

"Girl Gale... Uh-huh... Can do, I'm already downtown. I'll be there in five." She hung up and looked down at the phone, her eager grin re-forming on her face. That sounded pretty serious, she thought to herself as she tucked her phone away. About time I got some real action in this town.

Gathering and twisting the air around her once again, she darted forward and banked towards the police precinct.

A few minutes later, Girl Gale was swooping down to hover a foot above the front steps of the precinct. Gently lowering herself down, she released the swirling air currents that held her aloft in a single gust - not strictly necessary, but it made her cape billow nicely as she touched down. Nodding to the pair of beat cops who were on their way out, she strode in through the front doors and headed for the chief's office. She'd seen the guy once before, when she'd officially presented herself about a month ago, so she didn't need to embarrass herself asking for directions.

Pushing open the waiting room door, she saw that she wasn't the first to arrive. Peacekeeper and Ursa Major, two of the more established Felderton heroes, were already there. Gale gave the latter a curious look from under her mask, raising one eyebrow. You got to see some pretty strange stuff in the hero business, but a crime-fighting bear was still up there.

Nodding to the pair, the younger heroine crossed her arms, unconsciously dropping into the "at ease" stance she'd been taught to use in public. "Peacekeeper, Ursa. Glad I'm not late to the party." She said, smiling beneath her mask.

Today had been a pretty slow. Usually there was at least a mugging or two, but today? Nada. Joshua—or rather, "the Grey Ghost," as his superpowered form was known—hadn't seen a single wrongdoer so far, and this deserted alleyway had always been so reliable in the past! Maybe the crooks had finally learned started to learn? Joshua thought about it for a minute.... nahhhh. They never learned. Sure enough, he heard some kind of commotion coming down the street nearby. Might as well investigate. Joshua emerged from the alleyway—

"Okay, really?"

—only to have grimy water splashed all over his jacket as a motorcycle tore through a nearby puddle and on down the street. Its rider was screaming bloody murder and so were all the others coming in behind it. Joshua's right arm thinned and stretched out into a long, tendril-like appendage; he whipped it out into the street and wrapped it around a passing bike's frame. The bike's rider looked back in shock as Joshua's grey, highly malleable body reeled itself in on the tendril, then slid up the sides of the frame like living water, somehow carrying the jacket and pair of jeans along with it. The grey substance poured back into the clothes and re-formed into a human figure seated behind the bike's rider.

"What the—?!" he exclaimed.

Joshua formed a mouth and smiled. It looked like today wasn't going to be so dull after all.

"Afternoon Ursa Major, Girl Gale." Peacekeeper said, "I'm doing pretty well, been a fairly quiet day. I suspect it's about to get a lot less quiet if we are all here." She said wryly. Sipping a coffee, it was not great coffee and the caffeine had no effect on her. She drank it out of habit more then anything else. "Anyone want a doughnut? How have your day been so far?" She asked, taking a doughnut for herself.

After being requested to come to the headquarters Gwen blinked out of her civil clothes and putting her uniform, in red today, along with a bowler hat. After that it was out the window and she teleported across the city in short bursts. In short time she would just pop in the waiting room, just in time to hear Peacekeeper's question "Not bad at all" she said tipping the scarlet bowler hat

The biker gang ignored the supers, continuing to ride and yell loudly.

With the various heroes following, they soon came to an four-way intersection - only for the bikers to split up, with two thugs riding in each of the three directions.

"Glad all of you could make it," Chief Duggins said, walking into the waiting room, "This is a bit urgent, so if you all could follow me down the hall to one of the conference rooms, I'll brief you on what's going on."

Without really waiting, he turned and left, clearly expecting the supers to follow him.

Stepping down on her stepping stones like a staircase, Maestro went to see Revolver at about street level. "Hello, there mister Revolver. You North, I go West? Ciao." She smiled behind her mask, and started dashing off in the other direction, with the keys practically pushing her at the bikers.

A minute or two later, a few keys went up to her wrists with a little flick of her hand. She played 8 counts of what sounded like the theme to Castlevania, and some keys that weren't being used formed a whip in her hand. At the next intersection, she hit a red light. Alright, time to make these bikers know just how important music was...

"Mind if I hold on?" Joshua asked, wrapping his arms around the biker seated in front of him.

"Lemme go, freak!" the man shouted back, swatting around behind him with one hand. He grabbed hold of Joshua's jacket and yanked hard.... Joshua didn't so much as budge. "What the hell are you?!"

"Well, just now you said 'freak,' but I prefer Grey Ghost. Nice to meet you."

While the biker continued to tug ineffectually at him, Josh looked behind him to see what the other bikes were doing; he noticed a conspicuously-dressed man atop one of them, nails circling in midair around his raised index finger. Revolver was here? That was pretty cool, Josh had been hoping to meet that guy at some point or another. He quickly lost sight of the superhero as the bikes came to an intersection and split up, Josh's bike breaking away from the group along with one other.

How was he going to deal with this situation? The dilemma here wasn't stopping the bikers—he could easily overpower these two—but how to incapacitate them without causing a wreck. At these speeds they would almost certainly die. Hmm....

"Sounds good. Meet up after at the police station." Revolver carved along the street and banked with the rest of the bikers. Fully loaded, he took aim on the other bikers and blew out their tires with his nails. After emptying four of his six rounds, he pulled ahead and parked, looking behind himself to see who he needed to finish off. Reaching into his box, he reloaded his finger as well as his secondary orbit.

"You just hit a dead end, punk." Revolver strode towards the wreckage, finger raised. "You think you're some kind of martyr of anarchy? I'm gonna finish the job, then. Roman-like."

Aidan closely monitored the situation from his monitor, hunkered down in his secret lair (read: a run down apartment he rented because it was cheap). So far on the scene they had, Revolver, Grey Ghost, Maestro, and some of the unluckiest sods he'd ever seen in his life. He pushed his glasses up in preparation for his evil genius routine. Pitiful, arrogant fools. Were they really so eager to be punished, or had they just not been told? Aidan Lee ruled over rush hour like a god.

With a masterful keystroke, Aidan disabled all the fuel injectors within a block radius of Maestro, effectively bringing the bikers she was chasing to a stuttering stop. This was how he contributed. This was how he made a difference without ever throwing a punch in a world filled with flying bricks, cyborgs, magicians and espers. While the rest of the world took up arms and prepared to fight, he simply fiddled with the controls behind the system, adjusting a variable here or there to bring the whole thing crashing down. It was a work of art, really.

In the grand scheme of his Rube Goldberg-esque machinations, today had been pretty small. But he felt like he was obligated to help out a fellow unregistered super. Aidan switched to the feed covering Revolver and Grey Ghost. The remaining bikers were getting away. How would Grey Ghost handle it?

... Fucked if he knew, he was gonna heat up some Totino's pizza rolls.

Dana had grinned at Peacekeeper's words. "That's what I'm hoping for. It's been a quiet day. Stopped a carjacking this morning, but that's about it. I'm - oh, heya, Chief."

The blue-cloaked super nodded and followed after the others as the police chief led them off, resisting the urge to crack her knuckles inside her gloves - she was revving to go. When they reached the conference room, she leaned back against one wall, too restless to sit down.

... as Maestro was in pursuit, she noticed that the bikers were all slowing down considerably. Now was her chance! When the gang stopped, she snapped her fingers. The keys that were previously used to elevate and propel her moved to a position behind her, like a short cape.

"Hello, sirs." She said with a smile that could be faintly seen even through her mask, "Are you aware some people were trying to enjoy their day with no input from you?" She was aware that she was making a big presentation, but she just kept hamming it up. Walking over to the nearest one, she leaned down into his face.

"Do you know what the difference is between you and the hammers that make the noise on my grand piano at home? Oh, that's right, there is none." With that, she turned away, and swung the key-whip at his tires. Those keys were able to do some serious damage, and she didn't want to hurt the guy, just teach him a lesson.

Three pairs of bikers, three supers in pursuit. Damn. Gonna have to make a choice - the guy in the pancho, the girl in the air or the... what was that on the bike, exactly? Gaius swerved in the direction of the third out of interest more than anything. If he wasn't getting a pair for himself, he was going to follow the super that may or may not need the most help.

He rolls his window down, shouting over the music to the ... thing. He'd find a better word later. "Get them to slow down and i'll take care of them!"

Josh looked across at the bark-skinned man behind the wheel of the truck. Another hero he guessed? And just when he was starting to worry, how convenient! Just slowing the bikers down should be perfectly doable.

"Alright guys, party's over!" he shouted. Josh stretched his legs out and wrapped them completely around the bike frame to keep himself stable; next he stretched his arms into thin tendrils once more, wrapping one tendril around each of the two bikers' brake hands. He squeezed, forcing them to put some pressure on the brakes, not enough for them to lose control, but enough that they started to slow down. He felt them trying to pull their hands off the brakes, but he was stronger—much stronger.

"Fuck you! Fuck you!" the biker riding in front of him screamed, pulling out a switchblade and stabbing Joshua furiously. This had no effect.

"Really man?! I suggest you keep your eyes on the road! If this thing crashes you're gonna be a smear on the pavement!" Josh responded.

"Don't...don't kill me!" one of the thugs stammered as Revolver advanced, "I can...I can tell you where our boss is! Really!"

"You think you can just shut our bikes down? You think you're so tough, piano girl? Hah!" the thug spat at Maestro. "Our boss would wipe the floor with you!"

"Goddamn it!" the thug swore, throwing the knife away. Luckily, it didn't hit anyone, landing on the side of the road.

His companion looked back over his shoulder, and saw the truck with Gaius driving it. "Let's split! I'll meet you back at the boss's place!" He veered off down a side street.

"Fuck you!" the thug, still struggling with Grey Ghost.

"Okay, we're all here." Chief Duggins looked around the room. "Well, everyone except Revolver. Either I or any of you can fill him in later."

"Now," he continued, "I'm going to get straight to the point. He punched a few buttons on a laptop, bringing up a projected image of a thin, gray-haired man.

"This man is one of the most dangerous super criminals out there," Duggins explained, "His name is the Fencer, because he both uses a rapier and he specializes in trafficking in illegal and stolen goods. His powerset is super speed, heightened reflexes, and limited telepathy. He's opposed just about every major hero, and outwitted more than a few of them. About the only one who was able to ever catch him is...was the Mentalist." Duggins sighed and shook his head, clearly upset over that infamous incident.

"Not that it stopped him for long. And now?" the police chief raised his gaze. "He's shown up in Felderton, sighted just two days ago."

"We don't know what he's after. What we do know is that he is exceedingly dangerous." Duggins looked sternly at the assembled supers. "Don't get any ideas about personal glory or whatnot and try to catch him yourselves. If you see him, call for backup - every super and cop you can get. I repeat, do not confront him alone."

He paused, letting this sink in for a moment. "Any questions?"

"Does he have any known associates in the city? Are any of those heroes he's outwitted living in town?" Ursa Major asked. It was unlikely he did, or the chief would have mentioned that, but it never hurt to ask. "What about his real name? Cellmate in prison? Which prison he went to. Circumstances relating to his first arrest, and how he got out in the first place. If we caught him once, we should know a lot more about him than what he puts on his business card."
