Folder preferences won't let me default to closed

Every time I try to save my profile and have the folders closed by default, they're still open when I go back, and the folderpref cookie gets the value "open" even if you tick closed and hit save.

Not just restricted to this person—it seems to be a Chrome thing.

Windows 8.1, Chrome version 31.Something, here.

Firefox has this problem too.

If you refresh your profile after you save, the folder option resets to open.

My Firefox does not have this problem, so it's probably not a browser specific issue. Check your cookies and related options.

I've never had folders defaulting to open, or even looked at settings recently. I'm... also unsure why my cookies would be responsible for folder behaviour. :/

[up]I would guess these people changed their settings to default to open in the past and now can't change them back, possibly because their settings are stored as a cookie, maybe even because if the wiki can't find the cookie it defaults to open.

Folders open is the default behavior of the wiki. I have no idea why it wouldn't be saving changes to that preference, though.

Log out, folders stay closed. Log in, folders still staying closed. Huh.

... and it's back to staying open for no reason. The hell is causing this? O_o

This has been happening to me on and off throughout the week. No idea what in particular triggered it. I checked my profile settings, but they were set the way I like them (set to closed by default).

Do not obey in advance.

Okay, earlier today *I* started having pages load with the folders open on my iPhone, but only sometimes.

Same issue. Firefox. Noticed it two days ago.

Everything else that functions by menu works fine.

I also have the same folder glitch. Since the "Open/Close" folder was too big, I had to click on it twice to close it. And this happens to tropes as well. sad

Good to know I'm not the only one having this problem. I realize it's a minor thing, but it's extremely annoying.

Chrome is my primary browser, but I tested this in IE and the problem wasn't there.

I've had this for a while. I use Firefox; I'd use Chrome, but the sound for the video skips on my crappy old Windows XP laptop. It's really pissing me off because it doesn't let me choose what I can see.

Also having this problem, using Windows XP and Firefox 26. Seems like something is being inverted, the profile option always seems to be set to "closed" no matter what I do, while the article folders themselves seem to revert to being open when navigating around.

Navigating to profile shows "folder view default" as "closed". Changing to "open" and clicking save causes an article's folders to be closed, this can change back to open when going to a different article.

Changing them from "open" then to "closed" and clicking save and going to an article causes the folders to appear open.

Adding my two cents here on this one. Starting having this problem about a week or two ago. Tried clearing all history on Firefox 26 as well as disabling Ad Block, and Right To Click. Nada. My profile settings have never been touched, but the folders have always been closed before. Checking the settings shows that they are, indeed set to be closed by default. No es bueno.

This seems to randomly happen to me.

There was another glitch where a page's layout would randomly be corrupted, and the cause of it was a bad stylesheet on one of the servers. Maybe that's the problem again...

I know this is a pretty low-priority issue, but has it been basically deemed "too minor to bother with?" I'm just kinda surprised that nobody's really said much of anything on it.

I've noticed that when the folders are automatically closed, the foldercontrol button will be small, but when they're open, the foldercontrol will be as big as the folders.

If you are experiencing this, please look at the source of the page and search for "Set All Folders(". if it doesn't look like "Set All Folders('closed')", copy it and post it here.

Oh, and try clearing your cache to see if it clears up. http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache

Loading the code async-style. Sometimes it arrives too late due to latency in the particular client browser's connection. I removed the async keyword.
