RWBY Fanfiction Thread

I've never read White Sheep but it sounds like the type of premise that would require Ozpin to be evil if the story wants to have dramatic conflict.

I wouldn't mind it if the story was an AU where Ozpin is just evil from the start, but the way it was actually done was just bad. Ozpin basically turned into a self-caricature during the final arc, when he casually betrays his allies, attempts to destroy an entire kingdom and tries to justify it all with Insane Troll Logic.

Ah, yeah that's bad no matter what. Should have made him evil from the start and save yourself the trouble.

Maybe the author didn't take the Volume 6 revelations about Ozpin well, and let that affect his portrayal of the character in the parts of the fanfic that came after those revelations?

It would seem weird to me, because if anything, the Volume 6 revelations made me like Ozpin more both as a person and as a character. But it's possible I guess.

Coeur's reputation seems to have fallen quite a bit from the earlier volumes, i know the subreddit is less crazy about him then it used to be. IIRC, the general consensus seems to be: great technical writing, but misses the mark with the characters, even if they initially seems similar to canon

Now that I think about it, I can definitely see it being the case. Heck, in From Beyond Jaune puts an entire world at risk so that he can get into bed with Blake. It seems as though Coeur sees most of the characters in an unfavorable light, which can make for an interesting take, but sometimes results in the heroes turning into unsympathetic jerks.

I decided to look at reddit so I could look for general consensus on Coeur Al'Aran. It took me to a thread about why people like his work, and reading it has been enlightening.

When you look for fanfics to read, which are the ones you are interested in the most?

Funny stuff, mostly.

I just look for interesting concepts. It may be a curious "What if" scenario, making an effort to flesh out a minor character or even a pairing so insane that it's bound to be interesting.

I see, I usually like stories that expand the cast with some world-building or straight up comedy. It is something that inspired me to write to.

So... does anyone know any good fics or wants to advertise theirs? Because I'm fairly sure I checked everything from the Fanfic Recs page and I don't want to search blindly.

I would like to advertise mine but wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in the first place. I have two stories: One with an OC team that sets as a parallel plot from RWBY's main plot and the other is a RWBY X Goblin Slayer that I published yesterday. Both are in AO 3 and FF.Net with the same username.

Theirs 'Petals In The Ash' a fan fic about Cinder going back in time a being stuck in Ruby's body. [1] (hasn't been update for awhile)

theirs also 'Blood and Ink' Cinder runs a crime syndicate out of a tattoo parlour and then Ruby opens a florist across from her Ruby x Cinder fic [2] (Complete)

and theirs 'Hazy Shade Of Winter' Ruby has cancer and wants to be treated like normal girl and then new student comes to the school. Ruby x Cinder [3] (Complete)

and this one is not a fan fic but a fan comic by Tiger Paw 90 giving that give us a Cinder backstory [4] i would recommend read her shark Cinder comics they have made me laught ever time one is upload. [5]

and theirs a fan fic call "Dimension boy" am not going to give a describe for you will have to read it you self but i will say it about and OC from our world going in to the RWBY one and it made me facepalm a least one a chapter [6] (incomplete)

I binged RWBY: Scars within a few days and it's now my favorite RWBY fic. It's a nice rewrite (and it just so happens to feature my favorite pairing so that's a plus). My only disappointment is that it uses the "Qrow is Ruby's dad" theory. I really hate that theory.

I do not like reading rewrites very much. I get why so many people write them - RWBY's storyline is really flawed and it is not hard to improve some aspects of it - but much of the plot is still bound to be repeated, only with characters being more cynical and obstinate.

And seriously, what is the deal with making Weiss into a hardline racist? I find her original Tragic Bigot attitude to be more interesting than having Weiss hate the faunus because her father told her to.

I guess most fans see her V1 portrayal as a racist? I see that interpretation all the time.

I was talking about people intentionally making Weiss more prejudiced than she is canon. It is present in most "RWBY rewrite" projects and I'm not sure why, because it doesn't make her into a better character and smells of Flanderization.

I don't think it's necessarily flanderization. A lot of fans seem to just think it fits her arc and upbringing.

I like Jerry Freeman's "RWBY, But Better" series of videos because they re-imagine the setting and characters instead of following the Stations of the Canon like other "RWBY Rewrites". It's not a fanfic, but if it ever became one I'd love to read a story based on his new concepts. Just so no one has to go through the hassle of searching, I'll just link to his videos here, in case you're curious.

In the time I've read RWBY fanfiction, few comedic ones have made me genuinely laugh like The Wonderful Life of Mister Schnee. The story, which you can find on Space Battles, is basically what happens when you take your average engineer here on Earth, with no knowledge of RWBY, and reincarnate him into the body of Jacques Schnee.

Hilarity Ensues

Granted, the when takes place sometime before the Vytal Festival in Volume Three.

Just a random dilemma I got while writing one of my fics: If Blake were to just relax for a second and watch some TV, what channel would she pick?

Personally, I like the Fixing RWBY series of videos best. It's only covered the first two volumes.

Speaking of rewrites, there's a webcomic called RWBY: Visions being made. It hasn't been released yet but there are a few videos about it. It looks promising and the art is nice.
