Stickers: Ah, OK. Yeah, a nosebleed as a result of being hit in the face should not, in general, count. It would if there was a written rule saying "No blood of any kind, ever, under any circumstances, no exceptions, no excuses." Otherwise, the troper should just lighten up.

Is this a valid example? The script confirmed a car did say this even though it's pretty hard to hear, and "piss" isn't allowed in a G-rated movie.

  • In the G-rated Cars, after the race at the beginning, one of the cars at the sponsor's tent tells Lightning McQueen, "That race was a pisser!"

Is "pisser" a censored word, though? It doesn't mean "urine", it means "a disappointment".

With the caveat that I am ESL but to me "pisser" appears mainly as the urination term.

The problem with "pisser" is that, as I went into in the TRS thread, MPAA age ratings are inherently subjective and nearly meaningless. CARA, the board who assign ratings, do so primarily on the basis of "Do I imagine that other parents find this movie objectionable?", with specific criteria being of secondary importance at best. They even have a formal procedure to give a movie a lower rating than might otherwise be expected.

Given that, if it really is very hard to make out the word "pisser", CARA might well have not considered that parents would find that line objectionable.

Indeed, here's what the actual rules say about the G rating (page 8, emphasis added):

A G-rated motion picture contains nothing in theme, language, nudity, sex, violence or other matters that, in the view of the Rating Board, would offend parents whose younger children view the motion picture. The G rating is not a "certificate of approval," nor does it signify a "children's" motion picture. Some snippets of language may go beyond polite conversation but they are common everyday expressions. No stronger words are present in G-rated motion pictures. Depictions of violence are minimal. No nudity, sex scenes or drug use are present in the motion picture.

Nothing in there about any specific words.

Right, so it is incorrect to assume that specific words like "pisser" are GCPTR because there is no explicit standard for them and thus no violation of said standard.

@Libraryseraph

Good god...that'd be like if I were to make a Nightmare Fuel page for, I dunno, Curious Babies? And then on that page if I REALLY wanted more people to see it, I'd go and exaggerate the everloving hell of the show to make it seem like it's this dark, edgy and radar-dodging series....even though it's a puppet show literally aimed at babies.

That's what those Ready Jet Go pages are like.

When we told this kid "keep your hands where we can see them", this wasn't what we were thinking of!

Shonen Sunday mangas aren't exactly known for sexual imagery, with the exception of Ranma ½. This one, however, seems to be kind of an exception...

  • The picture in this page comes Kazuha's introduction. When she hounds Ran around thinking that Heiji's interested in her, Conan is caught between the two girls, and then his eyes are fixated and his hands are placed in a veeeeery compromising spot of Kazuha's body...
  • In episode 230, a beautiful Femme Fatale asks her long-haired and quite handsome male companion "Can we have a Martini tonight?" Sounds innocent, until one recalls that they're both members of The Syndicate - and their code names are Vermouth (the woman) and Gin (the man). Even more so, Martini is a cocktail made as... a mixture of both Vermouth and Gin. Therefore, this dialogue suggests that Gin and Vermouth may be/have been sexually/romantically involved.
    • This line was notably Bowdlerised in the English manga, which (Dub Name Changes aside) is typically pretty good about being faithful to the original.
  • Also, a very pretty girl who's involved in a crime and later is found dead is said to be a prospect model. Thing is, her specific type of modelling is very... racy, so to say.
  • As seen above, Conan is stuck as the Accidental Pervert several times in the show. Since he's in the body of a little boy, Aoyama has gotten away with having him: subjected to Marshmallow Hell, being bathed by a pretty "older" girl, having said girl undress in front of him (even if off-panel), getting a great view of the girl's Gag Boobs and then nose bleeding over it (and once to the point of a Gory Discretion Shot), etc... In one particular Beach Episode, he once was in the water while another girl in a bikini was around, and at some point he had her swimsuit-covered ass practically on his very face.
  • Also, ever since Miwako Sato and Wataru Takagi became an Official Couple, it's been implied more than once that they're sexually active. One time, she said that he is rather cute when he sleeps and blushed brightly when confronted about it; another time he mentioned that her bed is very soft and fluffy, and later he added "what was really soft and warm wasn't, of course, the bedding..." before she recalled they weren't alone and cut him off. Both times take place when they're talking to the Detective Boys, with only Conan and Ai understanding the implications. Goes from Sub Text into downright text when Takagi mistakenly believes that he has knocked up Satou, which wouldn't make sense if they weren't having sex to start with.... Eagerly lampshaded in this post:
"Well, Gosho-san is leaving nothing to the imagination. Sato and Takagi are fucking like rabbits."
    • Also, right after saying how fluffy his girlfriend's bed is, Takagi mentions that up until then he had never slept in such a soft spot. This can be easily seen as him never having shared a bed with anyone else before...
    • Brought up again in manga chapter 930: Takagi tells Sato that she's ordered a too large meal and her reply more or less amounts to "I'm planning to work out intensely tonight", causing him to blush; this is confirmed at the end of the case, when some slight banter between them finishes with him deciding to go to a gym... and she blushes and mentally calls him an idiot.
  • One from the English dub: In the episode “Game Gone Bad”, Kogoro/Richard is handed a coat check key marked ‘96’ and idly remarks, “That’s almost my favorite number.”
  • There may have been a literal example of this trope in the episode where Kobayashi-sensei and the Detective Kids are witnesses to a crime and they're interrogated by Inspector Shiratori who by that time's getting quite a bit of Ship Tease with Kobayashi, with the kids/Conan/Ai's approval. When she goes to the bathroom with Ayumi and Ai...
Mitsuhiko: "When a lady has to go to the bedroom, it's impolite to tell her "please take your time"!"
    Genta: "It's like you're implying Sensei's having the —"
Shiratori: "Idiot! I wasn't implying anything when I said that!"
  • At the end of the Twenty Year Old Murder case, a case that took place in a ship, Heiji is shown wearing a long mantle since he fell into the sea (or better said, was pushed into the water by the killer) and was rescued by a fisherman's boat. He tells Ran and Conan that he had to take off his clothes save for his underpants to stay afloat, Ran doesn't believe him... and to prove his point, he does this. If not for the pants, he'd be totally flashing her.
  • Many of the Gomera movies feature a cute little fairy as Gomera's Morality Pet/Kid with the Leash. Said fairy is played by a very pretty actress... and is seen completely naked on screen, even if with Barbie Doll Anatomy (probably how Aoyama got away with it). And this is an in-canon franchise for kids, people!
  • In the The Night Before the Wedding Locked Room Case case, Heiji is praying at the Meiji shrine and a cute young woman named Kaede Katagiri comes pray next to him. In the anime, she's introduced boobs first.
  • The cover of manga chapter 69, which involves a schoolgirl making herself pass as Shinichi's sweetheart to find a missing boy she was taking care of and angering the Hell outta Ran in the process, is certainly ... interesting.
  • In a certain case involving Kaitou Kid disguising himself as Ran, one of Conan's Imagine Spots had Ran completely nude.
  • In chapter 1002 of the manga, Sera focuses a liiiiittle on Momiji...'s huge chest.
  • This exchange between Shuukichi and Yumi as they're talking on the phone in Chapter 1015:
Shuukichi: "When you were my place at night, we were so busy that you barely got any sleep, right?"
Yumi: [immediately] "Yeah, yeah! I get it!" [hangs up the phone quickly]
    • The implication is that since Naeko was with Yumi at the time, Yumi is too embarrassed to talk about it in front of her. In the next chapter, she mentions that she was "busy" the previous night... but the word that's used can either mean "playing mahjong" or "having intimate activity".
  • This poster for the 20th movie has Conan pretty clearly Flipping the Bird.

Radar.Card Games contains only the following entry and two subpages, Radar.Magic The Gathering and Radar.Yu Gi Oh. Should the entire subpage be cut?

  • The Pokemon TCG has a Ambipom card where the titular pokemon is giving the viewer a rather... suggestive look. That would be dodgy enough on its own, but the kicker? It's first attack is called Furry Chance, eliminating any remaining hints of subtlety. The designers knew exactly what they were doing with this one.

I still need an entry-by-entry opinion on the Detective Conan and Ready Jet Go subpages.

Here's a full look at Radar.Ready Jet Go:

  • Sometimes, Carrot and Celery's flirting can go past......what would be acceptable in a show like this. Their flirting is very Squicky. For example, in "How Come the Moon Changes Shape?", they sing a love duet together, and at one point their legs intertwined. In Sounds Abound, they somehow end up in a bucket together while Sean is trying to work on his sound experiment. They flirt, and their legs are on top of each other. Sean and Jet then proceed to leave the room in disgust. Not sure how blatant all of this really is, but I'm gonna guess based off experience and assume this probably isn't radar-pushing.
    • In "Mindy's Meteorite Stand", while the entire town gets caught up in the meteorite craze, Carrot and Celery try to dig for meteorites, but they fall in a hole together. They giggle once that happens, and only God knows what they did next... Dirty thing is only subtly implied to happen offscreen; this doesn't count.
    • In "Date Night", Jet is looking at a slideshow of pictures from Carrot and Celery's first date. Jet is having a good time until he sees an image of Carrot and Celery about to kiss. Just a kid finding mild romantic interactions gross. Nothing about what he is reacting to is actually inappropriate.
Jet: Whoa, okay! This is too much. That's enough, mom and dad!
  • In "How Come the Moon Changes Shape?", Mindy briefly punches Jet in the crotch for being disgusted at Carrot and Celery's duet. Groin Attacks aren't inappropriate.
  • In "Mindy's Mystery", when the kids are interviewing Carrot about the mystery smell, it comes off as if they are investigating for possession of illegal substances. Complete with the funny looks they give him as they leave, and the fact that Carrot was apparently cooking up a "sweet sauce". Seems more like Parental Bonus to me.
    • Carrot adds a banana peel to his sauce, but it explodes in his face, and white, sticky stuff ends up all over his face. Apparently, the PBS censors caught on to this, as this episode, along with its sister episode "Diggin' Earth", don't air much and are not available to stream online at all, and was replaced in the final season 1 volume on Amazon, with, of all episodes, "Mindy Turns Five", which is a season 2 episode. However, the episodes can be watched on a DVD called Jet's First Halloween, completely unedited. The fact that it was seemingly later censored means this is likely valid.
  • The animators seem to be a bit too fond of the characters' butts, and yes, this includes the children. During the "Just Add Water" song in "Back to Bortron 7", Celery's rear takes up the screen at on epoint, and during the "Neptune Kind of Day" number in "Sean's Neptune Tune", Sean briefly shakes his rear at the viewer. I'd say butt-shaking is one of those things that likely never counts as GCPTR.
    • In "Satellite Selfie", Sunspot takes a picture of Mr. Peterson's butt. And Sunspot accidentally takes a picture of his own crotch. The butt picture even shows up again in "My Fair Jet". Were the censors asleep when approving this episode?! Again, probably not GCPTR.
    • And then there's this Fan Disservice shot of Carrot's butt in "A Hammer and a Feather" There's literally zero focus on the dude's ass.
  • The episode "Mindy in Space" shares its title with a pornographic comic. Don't look it up. Considering that this is a preschool show, it's probably just a coincidence. It probably is just a coincidence, and even if it isn't, it still wouldn't count.
  • In "Back to Bortron 7", it is revealed that Bortronian buildings look very... phallic-shaped. Pic for reference. Yeah, I'm not seeing it at all.
    • When Zerk meets up with Jet, he peppers his dialogue with the Lord's name in vain, twice. This was not edited in later airings of the movie, and parent groups haven't caught on.... yet. Children's shows are generally forbidden from mentioning religion, but I'm uncertain as to if this really counts or not.
      • Although, the closed captions for the movie spell it as "Oh my gosh!"
    • This awkward line: I'm honestly not sure what the joke here is, so I can't really judge.
Carrot: And what's the deal with Earth hot dogs? They aren't necessarily hot...
    • At one point in the movie, Jet 2 wakes up Mindy at midnight and Mindy tries to make him put the hologram of the house back. Instead, Jet 2 projects several other holograms besides the house. At one point, Mindy climbs up on Jet 2, and Jet 2 projects another hologram. The hologram was not shown, but judging by Mindy's shocked expression and dramatic gasp, the hologram was most likely something not appropriate for kids to see..... Implied inappropriate thing is offscreen.
  • In "So Many Moons", Mindy expresses concerns over getting a younger sibling, then we get these linesnote : Jokes about people having children are never inappropriate.
Jet: Hey, I know someone - or, I guess, something - that's got around 60 kids, and they all get along somehow.
  • In "Space Junk", Uncle Zucchini unveils his BBJS. If it didn't stand for Big Bortronian Junk Sucker, only God knows what other, non-family-friendly things it could've stood for. I had to use Urban Dictionary to figure out what BJ even meant (it's an abbreviation of blow job). This is definitely just an Accidental Innuendo.
    • Then again... Big Bortronian Junk Sucker is an innuendo in and of itself. And innuendos are not GCPTR. This one might even have been just been an Accidental Innuendo.
  • In "Measure for Measure", Sunspot makes a seductive pose at the viewer while Sydney is telling the other kids how many "Sunspots" Neptune (the trampoline) is from the sun (Jet 2) in their scale model of the solar system. It doesn't help that the trampoline/Neptune comes after Cody/Uranus. I'd say this isn't blatant enough to count. Hell, the connection between Uranus and Sunspot's pose may not even be intentional.'''
  • In "That's One Gigantic Pumpkin, Jet Propulsion!", during the "Grow, Plant, Grow!" number, Sunspot is shown riding on an eggplant. Any internet-savvy viewer knows what the eggplant emoji is used to substitute..... Accidental Innuendo.
  • In "Treasure Map", Mitchell reads Treasure Island, a book with alcoholism and killing. As such, that book is probably not ideal for a child as young as Mitchell to be reading. However, various sources say that this is a children's book, so it's probably just a case of Values Dissonance of what was acceptable for children to read back then versus now. If none of the book's inappropriate content is actually mentioned, then this isn't worth mentioning here.
  • In a literal example of Getting Crap Past the Radar, in "My Three Suns", Sean screams "Bathroom stop now!" while in the saucer. Of course, there are no bathrooms in the saucer or in space, so we can only assume that he went in his pants. I don't think instances of Bring My Brown Pants are inappropriate, and this one doesn't even seem to be inappropriate.

The banana peel one sounds like Accidental Innuendo in context, unless there's more to the scene that suggests it was a real bukkake joke.

The one about Zerk using the Lord's name in vain is probably the kicker. It makes the page read like a really conservative mother was reading far too much into a show her child was watching.

Assuming the banana peel thing was unintentional, do we have a trope for stuff that needs to be edited or censored due to it unintentionally looking or coming off as dirty? For example, the infamous phallic-looking spire on The Little Mermaid (1989)‘s cover was apparently added by the artist when they were half-asleep and didn’t realize what they were drawing.

For the reasons jandn2014 and mightymewtron said, just cut Radar.Ready Jet Go. Maybe move some examples to Accidental Innuendo if you think they could be taken that way. The idea that you're not allowd to take God's name in vain strikes me as Common Knowledge; it will need a citation.

For... ugh... Radar.Detective Conan, before I even look at it, we need to know which standards it is working under. I did some quick DuckDuckGoing, and I couldn't find any information about Weekly Shonen Sunday's internal editorial policies; there also doesn't appear to be any government body or industry association in Japan that assigns ratings to manga. American publishers do apply voluntary age ratings, but Case Closed predates those.

IMDB has a variety of ratings, most of which seem to be PG or higher. It only got lower ratings in Japan and Quebec, whose ratings agencies are known to be more lax than other places'.

With that in mind, I'll do a full rundown when I have more time.

If The Little Mermaid example was an accident, it's by definition not GCPTR, since intentionality is part of the definition. In that scenario, it's a classic case of Accidental Innuendo.

All right, time to go through... ugh... Radar.Detective Conan.

  • The picture in this page comes Kazuha's introduction. When she hounds Ran around thinking that Heiji's interested in her, Conan is caught between the two girls, and then his eyes are fixated and his hands are placed in a veeeeery compromising spot of Kazuha's body...

Acceptable given the age ratings.

So the English radar did catch it? And I believe this sort of thing is acceptable in Japanese and Quebeçois media.

Referencing the fact that a woman is a bikini model is acceptable given the age ratings.

Acceptable given the age ratings.

Acceptable given the age ratings, and 90s manga did not have any radar systems.

OK, that's funny. And perfectly acceptable in something rated PG.

Dead link, and just a bit of toilet humour.

He's not actually naked, and we don't see anything, and it's just Naked People are Funny.

Possibly DIH if it is indeed intended for children and not teenagers. Otherwise acceptable given the age ratings.

  • In the The Night Before the Wedding Locked Room Case case, Heiji is praying at the Meiji shrine and a cute young woman named Kaede Katagiri comes pray next to him. In the anime, she's introduced boobs first.

OH MY GOD A WOMAN HAS BREASTS WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!!ONE!!!ELEVEN!!!SEVENTEEN!!!PI!!!!!

Seriously, Kaede has an A-cup and there's no attention drawn to her chest.

  • The cover of manga chapter 69, which involves a schoolgirl making herself pass as Shinichi's sweetheart to find a missing boy she was taking care of and angering the Hell outta Ran in the process, is certainly ... interesting.

90s manga did not have any sort of age ratings.

90s manga did not have any sort of age ratings.

90s manga did not have any sort of age ratings.

90s manga did not have any sort of age ratings.

No it doesn't.
