From Recap.The Boys S 01 E 04 The Female Of The Species:

Considering how the show is meant for adults, I don't think that implied bestiality is something that needs to be sneaked past the radar.

[up] You can cut that. And since it's on a streaming service, the radar isn't strong.

Bringing up the following examples from Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM):

  • Getting Crap Past the Radar:
    • These start with the first episode in the series. Robotnik's plan is to air-drop a newly invented tree-killing chemical to destroy the Great Forest, exposing Knothole Village. You might happen to notice that the chemicals are colored orange.
    • The kiss between Sonic and Sally in "Hooked on Sonics" (the second one, after the peck on the cheek with the faux Post-Kiss Catatonia) gets rather intimate. Also counts as Parent Service.
    • Sally's tone of voice when she uses the Power Stones with Sonic for the first time:
"So this is what Power Rings feel like. Wow. Let's do it to it!"
    • Bunnie. In addition to having a flirty disposition, her outfit is strikingly similar to (and somewhat more revealing than) a Playboy Bunny.
    • Bunnie's dialogue tends to contain mild expletives, some of which aren't as child-friendly as they may seem to be:
Bunnie: "What in the hoo-hah just happened?"
    • A very subtle but clever example occurs during in "Warp Sonic", with Sally cutting Sonic off just before he recites a famous rhetorical question:
Sonic: Sal, is the sky blue? Is dirt dirty? Do bears-
    Sally: Sorry I asked.
    • For those not versed in English idioms, he was about to ask if bears shit in the woods.
    • Antoine has trouble using the correct word in a sentence.
    Antoine: Gringo!
Rotor: Antoine... it's bingo, not gringo.

[up] The first one could go under Does This Remind You of Anything?, while the rest can go. The reason Radar.Sonic The Hedgehog was cut was because it was mostly overreaching fan-intepreted Accidental Innuendo and things from higher-rated games. Some of it felt like enforcing stereotypes about the fandom.

Found this on Ferngully The Last Rainforest:

  • There's one moment that may or may not be this trope: When Crysta tells Zak "I want to learn magic like yours" (a line that in itself sounds vaguely like... something else), he leads her to a flower, they both crawl beneath the petals... and it turns out that Zak's only showing her a lit match.
    • Why did Zak have matches to begin with? Is he a teenage smoker?

Oh, boy. It's just a list of mildly naughty, obvious things. I'll get the axe...

Upon further inspection, there are a couple things that might fit, but most of the entries were "they almost said something sexual". The jokes are very obvious. The show relies on edgy humour.

There was one entry which clearly isn't Getting Past the Radar, but might be a different trope. One episode involves a character called "Nega Chin". Some people thought it sounded like N-Word chin. Some people said Nickelodeon revised that line, but I can find no evidence that this is true. If the line was changed, there is a different trope. If not, it's nothing.

Correction: There does not appear to be any change to the "Nega Chin" line, nor did it cause controversy in traditional media. Given that "The Big Superhero Wish" aired in 2003 and I can't find anything about the controversy before 2018, I'm calling this reaching.

[up]No, the Nega-chin thing is just an edgy Mondegreen that may have been turned into a meme. Nickelodeon never touched the line and I've never seen it cause an issue in the mainstream.

My recent visits to Digimon and some of its subpages are a bit nattery. I think most of the entries are legit, but there shouldn't be so much conversation. I also need confirmation on some of them, like the claim that Wizardmon's death was "removed" from the dub. While the shot of him dissolving into data might have been, I am pretty sure he was actually still supposed to have died.

[up] Also there's a bit too much reading into things.

  • In general, Digimon really did have more translator bravery than a lot of anime aired in the Saturday morning cartoon block. Other series lost entire episodes or even arcs, had stories and characters changed drastically because God forbid there should be any drama, angst (kids can't handle it!) or romance (that's tantamount to admitting sex exists!/Boys will think it's yucky!) happen. Digimon will keep the handgun given to an eight-year-old out of frame but that's about the extent. Never Say "Die" applied pretty much to death words only, and the occasional use of The Hit Flash. (They did try to pretend away two deaths in the Myotismon arc, but then they realized just how huge a body count the series was going to rack up from here on in and gave up.) You get things like the sight of Chuumon with one of Piedmon's knives sticking out of him (we lose only the instant the knife goes in.) The letter of the law is adhered to
    • Death and related words are actually said fairly regularly in Adventure, 02, and Tamers. They gloss over it a bit, but they don't outright hide it. Heck, they've even used "kill" before!
      • That was T.K. When BlackWarGreymon was going after one of those stones that tied the Digital World together, Cody stood in between him and it all on his own. Just before it cut to commercial you get a chilling, "He'll be killed!"
    • Tamers definitely averted the Never Say "Die" trope. When Guilmon first biomerged to create his Mega form, Kenta was worried about Takato's disappearance and thought he may have fallen off a cliff "and be hurt or dead or something" amongst other points.
  • Thanks to the higher demographic target, Digimon Savers can get more leeway than usual. Even then, some of those aspects are ridiculous, such as:
    • Yoshino barging in and insisting on 'accompanying' Masaru for security reasons, which results in her sleeping in his room. Consider this: at this point their relationship is defined by bickering and mockery, and there's 4 years of difference between them. Chika even lampshades how they act somewhat too close.
      • Masaru's mom let it go without further ado, so that's a bonus.
    • Emphasis on Rosemon's Digivolution as well as transition from local Bridge Bunnies to Lovely Angels (training suit with loose zipper).
    • Taking the cake and eating it is Touma vs Nanami. To say this is not sexual at all is the same as saying how sincere GLADOS is.
    • Chika drags Ikuto and Falcomon to the bathroom and then throws them into the bathtub, but not without stripping down poor Ikuto first.
    • The way Ikuto's mother is Bound and Gagged.
    • Given how the previous seasons' dub censored all the instances of "real" guns being used, it was a surprise to see Kurata and his soldiers keeping their guns intact in Data Squad.
    • With Masaru and Touma gone, it's up to Yoshino, Ikuto, Miki, and Megumi to fight Belphemon. Think about it: three grown-up ladies who wear somewhat fanservice-y clothes are bringing a pre-pubescent boy with motorcycles at night. The situation might be intense, but it's hard to not snicker at the party's composition and accuse the ladies of being paedophiles.
  • Mervamon from Digimon Xros Wars really takes the "Ms. Fanservice" trope and runs with it to the end zone. Her bustier is flesh-toned.
    • In the sequel, in the second-to-last episode she Xrosses with Beelzemon, and uses an attack called Sexy the Cannon.
    • Stingmon and Lilamon from the original Xros Wars. One is an insect and another is a flower. They're portrayed as lovers. Insert pollination jokes here.
  • Lilithmon, in an Evil Is Sexy manner, is similar to Mervamon at least in the original dub of Digimon Xros Wars. A particular standout moment is in The Dark Side of Bright Land, when the radar is outright shattered as she fondles her breasts and tells her comrades how being in Hell's Field is getting her ''excited'' because of how the area feels to her.
  • Digimon Adventure 3D: Digimon Grandprix! has Agumon outright shitting with his behind right in front of the camera!

I'm not sure the general page is worth saving, let alone the subpages.

So on a (coincidental) related note to the above, I just stumbled upon Dub Text, a trope I'd never seen before, and it feels... problematic, in many of the same ways as Getting Crap Past the Radar does - and it's particularly bad because the link I originally arrived from implied an entirely different trope that doesn't have any inherent relation to innuendo and the like.

I dunno, I just figured it was worth bringing up here.

[up] There are definitely issues with Dub Text. Especially with the crossover of Getting Crap Past the Radar. I think many of the examples that aren't Radar are based a bit too much on literal interpretations common in fan subs compared to official localizations - for example, TV Nihon tends to literally translate "potato" when used as an insult, when the actual implication is more in line with "bumpkin." That same difference in translation has occasionally been added and then removed.

[up][up][up] You may be right. For the few legitimate examples there are, I don't think there are enough to justify full subpages. And of the few that there are, even those might be a bit iffy considering how many of them only barely qualify. For example, simultaneously claiming Barbie Doll Anatomy being in full effect followed immediately by "[they] show clearly [...] genitalia." These two things are not compatible statements.

Last night I took an axe to the OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes radar page because I'm very familiar with the work in question, as well as what is/isn't generally allowed on a TV-Y7-FV show. Most of what I cut was either toilet humor/butt jokes, or things that require mental gymnastics to even be seen as inappropriate (ie "woman with big breasts exists" or "a character points so it must mean he's flipping the bird").

A question: where does violence fall when it comes to radar? I feel like it's covered better by Family-Unfriendly Violence but there are ENDLESS examples under radar. One show in particular which has a radar page mostly consisting of "wow, this is more violent than a kid's show usually is!" is Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart, which I did clean up a bit too but didn't touch the aforementioned violence examples because I wasn't sure whether they qualified for the trope.

[up] My guess is that Mao Mao isn't flying under the radar because as violent as it is, it's consistently violent and the network hasn't said anything along the lines of making the creators change it or apologizing to the viewers or their parents. Cartoon Network and FCC are both well aware of what's allowed for a given rating and neither has done anything about it.

Bringing up the following examples from Radar.Archie Comics Sonic The Hedgehog:

  • Issue 3 had everyone think Robotnik got hold of atomic bombs and went over the destruction the weapons could cause.
  • Back in issue 8, Bunnie jokes that she's the "sax cymbal" of the team. She must really love music.
  • Sonic Super Special 15 features a parody of Sin City, in which Sonic goes to a robot dive bar and witnesses Bunnie, disguised as a female Swatbot, performing what is apparently an exotic dance.
  • Issue #60 gets away with describing Monkey Khan as a hellion.
  • In the "Heart Held Hostage" storyline, Nack and his gang used realistic firearms. Subsequent stories had Nack use cartoonish guns.
    • In the same storyline, Sally delivered a Groin Attack to Nack to escape him.
  • Issue 133 had Sonic tell Mecha that her "father" (Eggman) could go to... before he was interrupted by her laser eyes.
  • In Sonic Universe 17, we get this little jewel after Tails asks if Antoine n' Bunnie will be bored while he's off at his little workshop. If you keep in mind that they're supposed to be on their honeymoon, one doesn't have to guess what they plan to do with their alone time...
Antoine: "Will we be bored", he asks.
    Bunnie: You hush. He's still a young'un.
  • An issue had Robotnik confronting Snively and accusing him of "Snooping as usual". This references a line from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and by proxy, the dick joke that sprung from a particular mondegreen of it.
  • Back when Scourge was Evil Sonic, he comes to Mobius specifically to hit on the chicks undercover, going further each time - Amy, then Mina, then Bunnie - whom he is seen lying next to later in the day. Bunnie has a robotic lower body. In a later issue he comments to Sonic, "And Amy? Yeah, there's a real prize-winner..." Sonic is absolutely fuming... maybe because Sonic and Evil-Sonic are 15, and Amy is chronologically under 12.
  • Rouge gets into a personal confrontation with Julie-Su, leading to this exchange:
Julie-Su: Let go of me, you b
    Rouge: Bat, dear. Remember it.
  • And ten issues later:
    Knuckles: You'd do that, Rouge?
    Julie-Su: She'd do anything.
    Rouge: Watch it, pinky.
  • Blaze has been having visions about Sonic in her sleep, and seeks him out. They fight, and afterwards, we get the following exchange:
Blaze: You are indeed the one I have sought out. No question.
Sonic: You've been looking for me? Who are you exactly?
Blaze: The one who will now haunt your dreams the way you have haunted mine! Farewell, Sonic... Until I have need of you!
Sonic: (thinking to himself) Haunt my dreams, huh? I wonder...
  • In one of the old Sonic Grams online for the Archie comics, Fiona and Scourge have this exchange.
    Fiona: Time for bed, babe.
    Scourge: But—
Fiona: You wanted the letter, remember?
    Scourge: (mutters)
    • Thinking about his character, what else might he have wanted?

  • In the Sonic Riders comic arc where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles face off against the Babylon Rogues, there's this exchange between rivals Knuckles and Storm that could easily be taken out of context. The fact that their hands are locked together in a fistfight and one is smiling doesn't help either:
Storm: It's been a while since I fought someone as strong as me.
    Knuckles: Likewise!

  • A non-sexual example in the post-reboot continuity. SEGA mandates forbid comic book writers from creating relatives for characters from video game series, yet Witchcart from Tails Skypatrol is introduced as Naugus' twin sister. SEGA let it stay that way.

Bringing up the following examples:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie:
    • Sonic gives Dark Eggman the finger. Later on, we learn that since Metal Sonic and Sonic share the same data; each can see what the other sees. Then Sonic is shown cringing and twitching around. Cut to Metal Sonic in a position that would allow him to look up Sarah's dress. Though, in this case, he could just be twitching around in pain because he just landed crotch-first on the angular tip of Eggman's hovecraft. Or perhaps because Sara is smashing Metal Sonic's face in for the aforementioned offense.
    • Then, after a crash, this memorable exchange is made:
      Knuckles: Tails! Get off!
      Tails: I'm so sorry!
Knuckles: I never thought you'd stoop so low!

[up]x4 I can probably take care of that sometime soon. In fact, Radar.Video Games is also in genuine need of a good alphabetization, which I'm also willing to tackle, as it could probably help in the process of getting rid of all the non-examples on there.

Bringing up the following examples:

  • Sonic X:
    • In episode 17, the Monster of the Week references Cutey Honey by imitating Honey's catchphrase. The catchphrase in itself isn't particularly naughty, but you wouldn't expect Sonic X to reference a franchise infamous for its borderline hentai content...
    • Rouge the Bat is this trope incarnate. Some of the her most egregious moments would be:
      • In episode 39, Rouge teases Knuckles with some innuendo:
Rouge: If two people who've been living entirely different lives start living together... Are you very active during the night?
Knuckles: (blushing red as a tomato) Stop asking me weird questions! It's not like we're going to be together!
Rouge: Oh my, just what are you thinking? I'm a bat, and bats are active during the night. I was just wondering if you were or not. Don't you prefer dark places?
      • In episode 78, Eggman and Rouge are talking about Shadow who had recently left without a word. Rouge is clearly concerned about him, so Eggman tries to light the mood by exclaiming "Goodness! You have a rather ample bosom!". The camera pans to the outside and then back inside, showing Eggman with a bright slap mark on his cheek and Rouge rubbing her hand in pain.
