I think David might get along well with Claire, but at the end of the day if he doesnt end up in the same group I wont lose any sleep over it.

I want Kaitlin to be with Claire, definitely, at the very least.

Hmm, Rob might work well with Claire since he could probably benefit from a protective figure in his life who is actually human. Possibly also Jacob, just because a team of kids who can control animals and technology respectively sounds like it could be pretty badass. Joseph could also work, since I can see Rob relating to him and Winter starting to defend him by proxy.

I don't need to partner with all or even any of those characters necessarily, just throwing some ideas out there.

I kind of like the duality of it, especially since you rarely see such match-ups.

Hmmm... Claire and Kaitlin at least... And I'd be fine with having them tag along with Rob and Jacob, although I'll wait and see if Anno's okay with that. Was kind of hoping she could be with Jojo too, although that means she'd have to be with Strato's character too so we'd have to see what he thinks (not that I'd be unhappy with that; it's been a while since I RPed with Strato and it'd be fun to do it again[lol]). And... Well, helping Raineh make her character, so with her too that would be seven, which makes them a full group.

That is, if everyone else is okay with it, ahah.[lol]

Probably a good idea to get more. Four is kinda small.

David

Kyle

Violet

Alvin

Mark

Jacob

Joseph

Well, that's... long, but not quite comprehensive, since it's really just my first impressions. Anyway... hmm. I think I'm actually starting to figure out which group I'd like her to be in, but it's in the planning stages. If any of that appeals to anyone, let me know. tongue

I guess I'll just go ahead and post here what I sent to Bean about Rob's powers.

First, a few words on general limitations. Rob can choose to stop using his powers and cut his animal connection at any time, but there are a few things that can make them cut out against his will.

1.) The animal dies: Having this happen is a jarring, sometimes painful or unpleasant experience, something to generally be avoided, but it doesn't have any lasting negative effects on Rob.

2.) The animal, or Rob himself, is startled or injured: Either of these happening might cause Rob to voluntarily give up control anyway, but depending on the extent of the distraction or damage, he may not be able to help himself. The severity required to force him out of his connection will vary based on experience level, and this may be one weakness he can completely overcome through experience eventually.

3.) The time limit is reached: The amount of continuous time he can spend controlling an animal is somewhat ill-defined, but should range between only a few minutes when he's just starting out to several hours or even days at his most powerful. The amount of time he needs to recharge from this will also vary, but will generally be proportional to some small but significant fraction of the total time spent controlling the animal. It is important to note that there will always be a finite limit, even if this limit is beyond useful practicality and therefore moot.

Now on to his capabilities by level, corresponding to the four time frames:

  • Level 1: Rob can only control Winter, and must give his senses and consciousness completely over to the dog in order to do so. This means that Rob's normal body is basically useless when using his power. An external observer would see him as alive, but catatonic. As Winter, Rob retains his human intelligence but is nonanthropomorphic. He is physically unable to manipulate tools, open doors, write, or do anything of that nature, and his vocalizations will only be barks and growls. His best hope for communicating with anyone would be pointing at letters or words.

  • Level 2: Rob can control animals besides Winter, but may still only be linked with one at a time. He has started to be able to maintain awareness and control of his human body, but this requires extra concentration he has not yet mastered. Failure to concentrate results in strange things happening, like the animal mimicking his movements and gestures or vocalizing when he talks in a tone consistent with what he is saying. Less familiar species, especially those which don't have as many parts analogous to human body parts, may still require that he go catatonic to control.

  • Level 3: Rob can now control and coordinate small groups of 2-3 animals. Controlling groups of radically different species or attempting to control slightly larger groups may be possible but would require he enters the catatonic state.

  • Level 4: At the pinnacle of his power, Rob can control animals in large groups, making them swarm and display complex coordinated behaviors not seen in nature. It is here that he might be able to control other humans, but doing so would require a huge effort and be extremely dangerous for both himself and the person he tried to possess. I can certainly nix this particular possibility, but if it is allowed, I would intend for it to be extremely risky and something he would do very rarely, if at all. I'd probably be content just to be able to acknowledge it as a theoretical extent of Rob's power that he's too scared to actually test.

So, right now, we only have Group A partly formed. I say partly, because apart from my character, there's at least three or four or even five more coming. That makes it around 24 characters, which means each team can have eight characters (for now). I have a suggestion: why don't we leave Group A as it is, and once we're 100% sure that everyone has signed up, we'll divide the groups?

And just for the record

Group A (so far)

  • Joshua
  • Maximus (?)
  • Claire
  • Kaitlin
  • Rob
  • Jacob
  • Alice
