I've been waiting to see if Osric or Dedit are going to try to at least close the distance to the three spirits. Only Dedit can really make any attempt to attack them in one post but you could at least move.
That's why I haven't posted yet.
"You lost, Dio. You lost for one simple reason - you were using charcoal." - Hank HillYeah, I'm not confident in accomplishing anything in the few seconds that it would take between the throwing of the torch and it hitting/missing the target. (I treat RPs as being chronological in order of posts.) I'll just wait.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)You're better off not waiting.
It's playing out like this. Carl is in one area. Mernie has just reached the area where the other three members of the group are at. The way I mean for this RP to run is like this: I present Thing A, each or most of the party members does Reaction A. I make Reaction B and fit it in wherever I feel is best.
I let everything play out relatively. I've made the decree that you can get close enough to Carl to make an offensive move the following round of player posts if you move. Unless Carl moves the fight to you, which he's going to take some hits by doing when its one on three/six on seven, you'll never actually participate in the fight. Or at least you won't until the spirits slay Carl and come after you.
If you'd still like to wait, though, I can post after Dedit is moved and then you can post. At least then, it'll be a two on three/??? on seven.
I should also make the point of saying that player death is not a looming threat - serious player injury is. The factor that determines if a character dies, which I try to make infrequent, is if there's just no holding it back any longer or the player acts like an idiot one too many times and just doesn't get the point of the RP. You're not falling into either category in this instance, and in terms of the latter I don't expect any of you will be that stupid but it should be said.

"You lost, Dio. You lost for one simple reason - you were using charcoal." - Hank HillOkay, it looks someone has been confused, because the way it's currently written is that all five of us are in about the same place (at the very least, we can all see each other, as per this post
). Or in short, you think Osric and co. are further away from the baddies than we do.
If this was not how you planned the layout of the place or what would happen, fine, but you kind of have to catch these things before other people post.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)I noted the two were farther apart. Karas has moved (to Mernie) and so has Mernie (to Karas), meaning you're at about the halfway point between you assuming you followed Karas. The whole distance thing still applies here with no actual problem.
In addition, Carl moved away from Mernie.

"You lost, Dio. You lost for one simple reason - you were using charcoal." - Hank HillI feel like someone got pushed at a perpendicular angle through a pane of glass.
Just remember Mernie moved past Karas, and is not standing with Karas. I suppose I can live with this interpretation, although I don't think the distance is that far.
Making a post.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Call it just far enough.
Either way, Totemic, I do understand that i've inadvertently caused some confusion over the matter and I do apologize for it. I'll try to make sure that everyone's a little clearer on what's what in the future but I'm not gonna get any numbers involved (not that you were advocating that).
To everyone else, I apologize that we're just crawling along right now. I don't intend for these spirits to be hard, I just wanted something to help the party find its footing, so to speak. In terms of my personal life, it's been college paper season (and still kinda is) but if everyone else has the time and nothing comes up that i'm unaware of, we can make some nice progress tomorrow.
"You lost, Dio. You lost for one simple reason - you were using charcoal." - Hank HillOnce again, my lack of spatial coordination has created some problems. So let me get this straight: assuming a relatively linear hallway, at this point in the narrative, Carl is in front, Dedit and Osric are charging in, Karas is standing behind them, and Mernie is running away in the other direction. Is that how it works?
...Because if it is, I'm trying something. Refer to the post, and let me know if there are any issues.

Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation. It's perfectly linear in shape and fairly large in size, I believe.
You have the distances between people good as well, but i'll put it another way-
(Spirits, Carl) - (Dedit, Osric) - (Karas)(Mernie)
Left to right, this is the distance from the spirits. A dash is a visible amount of space. Mernie and Karas being in separate parenthesis is to indicate that they're not together, just really close to eachother. Two names in the same parinthesis mean they are in the same small area, close enough to physically interact in someway (i.e. throwong the torch).
Posting now.
"You lost, Dio. You lost for one simple reason - you were using charcoal." - Hank HillUm, I'm not entirely happy with having to tie my post to whatever Pyrite posts (just to make sure we do have "the same thought on the matter"). Describing actions is one thing, but try to leave the workings of the inside of Osric's head to me; it's easier. (I suspect this wasn't what you intended, but it comes off that way.)
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)I'm pretty sure he was just narrating what you had written in this post
using his omniscient narrator third-person allcaps text(what's with that allcaps, by the way?), and not adding in new stuff.
...Karas thinks that while takoyaki are a common snack over on her home world, she totally understands if Carl doesn't feel the same way. What are Osric's thoughts on fried octopus? (I'm going to go with TH on this one.)

Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation. It's asscaps, actually. I just do it just because, I guess.
When I wrote that, I meant to not write out Osric definitively having the same thought. Oversight on my part but you did have Osric keep back and observe, which pretty much means you're keeping an eye out for details that you wouldn't notice in the heat of things. Karas is seeing that detail because she's the first one to make that happen and at range.
In the end, i'm writing in response to you all. That's all i'm doing. Feel free to establish that your character thinks differently, Totemic, but all the same it's what he saw.
"You lost, Dio. You lost for one simple reason - you were using charcoal." - Hank HillSeeing is not thinking. I can understand if English is not your first language (I don't know you well enough to know if that's the case or not, so don't take offense here), but you did use the word "thought", which has different implications than, say, "observation" or "knowledge". With that word, it's not just about what we saw, it's about what we decide can be done based on it.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)English is my first language. I just have a tendency to forget a word, use the wrong word or misspell a word (if i'm on my phone for the last case) every now and again. Usually I catch it but when I try to type something quickly (like a post) I make an error or two. *shrug*
Seriously though, Totemic, if you're willing to give me the benefit of a doubt that I didn't intend to do something like this, i'm willing to give you the benefit of a doubt that you're just ironing out my posts wrinkles in your own as they pertain to you. I certainly hope that isn't the case very often but i'm going to have to assume it'll happen again and when that does happen as long as you don't try to completely reinterpret what I said, changing minor details as they relate to your character is fine by me. Osric is not my PC, so understand i'm never thinking for him and if something like this happens, it's an accident, plain and simple.
I'd go into a whole spiel about what type of a GM I am but i'm going to leave it at 'lazy fucker who likes creative thinking' and let N try to help you understand me a little more if he cares to (although admittedly while he's the only one of you I know well I don't know that he can exactly do that on the spot so EH).

Curses, I thought I had posted, must have closed the window too soon. Good thing I always save copies on my desktop so I don't have to rewrite them.
