S3E5: As expected Shiroe brings in people from all over the place to push the votes in the Round Table's favor. To Eins' and Touri's credit they bow out gracefully even at the cost of public scrutiny, and I'm glad Eins got a proper, if low-key, send-off.
Next episode is what I'm excited for, though because it's time to see what Kanami and Krusty are up to on their side of the world!
So, can anyone explain to me why this is apparently intended as a good result and why "everyone won"?
Shiroe just casually manages to uncork the transport gate because of the mana problem, which is apparently all it took. But for some reason they decided to leave Honesty to... figure out something that was already figured out, made them a hate sink, and then suddenly solved the issue so Eins looked totally incompetent. Then he tracks in a whole bunch of adventurers from Susukino to blatantly stack the vote, just barely win, has Eins abdicate anyway, and makes sure that Eins is definitely hated even more by his ex-guild members and the Landers while he runs away with his new owner.
It makes it sound like Eins was in on it the whole time to provide a fall guy for Shiroe to manipulate the whole system and pick a popular, pretty figurehead, not an opponent.

It's been fun.Yeah I'm not sure how "everyone won", though it is said that the Honesty guild members at least found a purpose in helping in the elections and helping the People of the Land.
Good point on the transport gate issue though. I can only think that they did leave that to Honesty, and they couldn't figure it out, then Shiroe stepped in and found the solution, which does... make them look incompetent. Maybe LN readers can enlighten us on the subject.
From what I understand, Fairy Rings and the Transport Gates are two separate things. Honesty was trying to figure out the former.
And while Shiroe's heroic technically-not-electoral-fraud scheme does rub me the wrong way, it's more the activation the Transport Gate itself that gets Touri pressured out by internal politics anyways, and Eins then ends up taking the heat for that publicly. So both of them have to bail, but Shiroe acknowledges that he and Eins are basically on the same page, and hands him the tools to accomplish his goal elsewhere.
Seems like the fairy rings were random teleports that worked on a mysterious timetable back during the game. They probably still work after the Catastrophe, but since no one can predict when which ring will connect to where, I guess Honesty has been a bit stifled with how they can test them.
It's been fun.Good episode this week! It's nice to see Krusty and Kanami Gang again. I already sort of know what happens next week, though you can probably predict it just from the episode title and context clues. Still looking forward to it, though! IMO this has been the best episode of the season, and I hope we get a Part Three after that Part Two coming up.
GM: AGOG S4 & F/WC RP; Co-GM: TABA, SOTR, UUA RP; Sub-GM: TTS RP. I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new Empire.Evidently, some things were skipped or glossed over, like Leonardo and Elias' fight was supposed to be longer and it was supposed to be clearer that Krusty changed the contract by burning memories. Overall, I feel like this arc would have benefited from an additional episode. Looking forward to Izumo Knights lore and more Rudy next week, but I strongly dislike the rest of the scrubs, so not looking forward to that part.

Not sure why Rudy seems to disagree with Isuzu about Minori’s puppy love, it doesn’t seem like Minori is uncomfortable with it.
Interesting how the attack by the new Genius apparently involves turning Akiba into a glitchy ghost town. I assume Ereinus has an ability that lets him exile adventurers above a certain level from a certain area, which means that Minori and her posse and the rest of the lower level adventurers will have to step up to bat. Should be interesting!
S3E10: Log Horizon is at its best when game mechanics are getting abused, and having the monster exploiting the rules is a cool twist. Also love that the Adventurers had to resort to MMORPG staples such as tank-swapping to compensate for the level reduction.
Excited to see Akatsuki and the kids kick some raid boss butt.
Episode 12: Ereinus should reconsider his stance on Minori’s party not being worthy of veneration, because they whupped his two butts. Oh, and it was smart to use his mental attack to show the younger Adventurers the memories of when their seniors were beginners.
Then Minori confesses, to which Shiroe answers... he’s in love with someone else. And it’s heavily implied to be Akatsuki. Aww. Sad for Minori, but she really didn’t have a shot anyway. Shiroe’s a proper adult who knows to not go after minors.
After-credits scene is a blatant cliffhanger, though from what I understand they’ve adapted basically all of the available light novel material. Season 4 will be a while off.
I'm on vacation, so I noticed I forgot to watch this series.
On the whole, season 3 was kind of strange. Starting with some overall world-spanning plot, then some small side plot the series assures us is important, but not so important it can have proper screen time, and finally some contrived plot to pretend that the low-level characters are somehow still relevant.
Well, it's not as bad as this makes it sound. I enjoyed most of it. The first arc was best one, since it's more about what I think Log Horizon is about. Would've liked to see more of Krusty's parts, but I can understand why time was spent elsewhere. And despite what I said above, I don't mind focus on the younger characters. They have their own stories and struggles, which are also somewhat interesting. I'm also glad that love subplot got sunk. It was just too obvious it never had a chance.
Highlights:
Our lazy, cowardly princess is still best girl. She doesn't think she amounts to much, and she doesn't move often, but when she does move, she's a game changer. Especially compared to the effort she makes. She's the strongest weakest character I've seen in a long time. Her inner faces while talking with mom were funny and cute.
Shiro being a shifty bastard. Which is why he's great. They had a problem with the Round Table not having any Landers, and then just as he was about to join the Dark Side, a wild princess showed up. But honestly, the Round Table was always only a temporary solution to build up the city, not to maintain it. Maintaining it required, among other things, more support from the Landers, and some of them at the table. That really shouldn't have been so hard to fix, but I suppose it can be hard to see from within.
Nice to see Demi and wife. Love that couple.
Akatsuki shows a lot of confidence with Shiro. Some other young girl isn't a threat at all. Also demonstrated the difference between them with how much Shiro isn't better than her, but her equal. While being the badass of the season.

Yeah, the problem with the Landers not being part of the Round Table seems like one of those bureaucratic issues that are obvious from outside but hard to see from within. So all in all props to Shiroe for catching it.
Rayneshia is the best princess, agreed. And also good that they sunk the Minori ship that was obviously going nowhere.
I think season 3 can be summed up as being a sampling of everything Log Horizon has to offer, from JRPG isekai adventure to political machinations to mechanics exploitation, and this makes the season uneven, but any Log Horizon fan will find something to like.
Yeah, that's a good summary of the season. The samplings weren't bad in themselves, but there was no connection between the them. Previous seasons were better at mixing those elements up. Coming from someone who binged it in a day, the first two part felt much too short, while the last one was decently paced. Not sure how it would've been watching one episode a week.
One thing I do like is that the political competition was between two good-willed parts. It's rare to see, but far more representative of what you probably would've seen in a real world. People generally want to do good for the people they are with. The problem often comes from those in power who're sitting far away, disconnected from the masses they control.
And that was the problem with the Round Table. I think that's Rudy's best contribution to the story. He serves as a connection to the people, with good insight to how they think. It's a bit of a contrast to the other main Lander, the princess. She's not connected to the people, but she's well aware of it, far more so than the Round Table, and as such she's better prepared to deal with it, despite all the flaws she has. Or maybe because of them, not sure. They really should've brought her aboard much earlier, rather than as an outsider diplomat.

It's hilarious how Akatsuki tried to get support by whispering to people in their sleep.
Rayneshia has always been one of my favorite characters in this show and I'm looking forward to her speech. As for Shiroe, given the rule where anyone and they mean ANYONE who goes to the election can vote then we can probably guess what he's scheming.
