WHAT HAS SCIENCE WROUGHT
#1: Sep 25th 2013 at 4:27:13 AM

The threat of Kaiju is nothing new. Japan was ravaged by the titanic Nue. England had its dragons. The vikings had the World Serpent, and the Greeks the Hydra. Over time, it was thought that the giant monsters were all slain, and the world went on as what we'd see as normal.

However, a great change came about during the beginning of the 20th century. In light of America's burgeoning industries, our cosmic neighbors- from the plant-like martians to the jubilant Valkyrians- began to visit Earth publicly. Many stuck around, finding the new culture exciting and exotic. This influx of new and strange beings had a price. Stars aligned, ancient prophecies were fulfilled, and new industrial chemicals and technologies mixed from the alien and earthling were sent into nature at an alarming rate. Atomic theory soon blossomed, and the first kaiju attack in centuries occurred- a malfunctioning Martian Tripod struck at the World's Fair, causing hundreds of thousands in property damage.

The greatest minds of the time- Nikola Tesla, Gerald Ford, Thomas Edison, and a nameless alien from the planet Eltar- worked together to build a device to counter the rampaging machine. The result was the world's first Electro Cannon, mounted on the pinnacle of 1930's robotic technology, Uncle Slam. With vacuum tubes carrying information issued by the finest radios of the time, this league of geniuses successfully fought off the tripod by commanding the robot in battle. Soon, however, more monsters would emerge- from the fossils held under lands yet discovered, falling from space, from the depths of the Pacific.

To combat this threat, which persists to the game's present of 1956, the United Nations seeks out those willing to fight these threats to Earth and its peoples. Be they alien soldiers looking to make a name for themselves in the Space Garrison, giant turtles from space that are friends of all children, or a person who just happened to find themselves in a giant robot, the United Nations has a place for them in the Science Alert Corps.

  • Name: Chouzuki Kyouko
  • Personality: Originally, Kyouko was a normal enough girl, though not particularly outgoing or, indeed, confident socially. She also really hated to be seen in anything less than full school uniform? Now? Well, she's fine with being seen in a swimsuit... but she's really, really awkward with talking to people, and completely lost at see if you try to engage her about technology. What really upsets her is that she used to like to read—books, comics, whatever.
    Maybe someone can help?
  • Appearance: "Um... this is a fake city, right?" Due to her size, and the general likelihood of having to wade through deep water and her newfound propensity for swimming to China etc. to look around, Kyouko's clothing is basically a variety of swimsuits. They're decent, can't be gotten around, and use relatively little material.
  • Monster Appearance and Concept/origin: Appearance: the same. Origin: NUCLEAR RADIATION
  • History: Kyouko was a normal girl... up until five years of age. An accident at the powerplant where her father worked appeared to have no side effects... until several months down the line, she was comparatively huge. This has just worsened as she's grown, and Kyouko has basically been unable to really attend school properly for years, though she does her best to keep up with the curriculum. She's glad she shouldn't really grow more, at least.
  • Do you have the Monster Island rules?: No. :(

Question; for those with some sort of mecha equipment, would it be made of the same sort of tech that was in that era, or can it be more futuristic?

I suppose it depends on how futuristic, really.

Name: Domom Daigouji

Personality: Domon is ordinarily a somewhat bumbling, shy and mild-mannered Kaijuu research assistant, quiet and really more of a helpful background piece to his colleagues. But when he puts on his magical ancestral kabuto Domon becomes the giant hotblooded warrior of peace and justice TAKAMAN! His personality does a complete 180 degree flip, and he flamboyantly and courageously fights giant monsters with all the skill, resolve and burning passion of his ancestors!

Appearance:dressed for success. and tea.

Monster Appearance and Concept/origin: sort of like this but with a kabuto, the giant samurai of justice, Takaman!

History: The source of Takaman's powers is his ancestral Kabuto, enchanted in ancient times by the onmyouji Abe no Seimei so that Domon's ancestors could fight off giant monsters plaguing Heian Era Japan and modified only slightly since then. Now, as that samurai's true descendant Domon must fight giant monsters as his ancestors did generations ago!

Do you have the Monster Island rules?: no, sad

Gonna take a stab at this. Please feel free to let me know if anything needs tweaking/fixing.

  • Name: Thrik Threj'ik
  • Personality: Hailing from Jupiter's volcanic moon of Io, Thrik is deeply fascinated by Earth and its many cultures. Friendly and outgoing, he loves meeting new people and socializing outside of work, though his species' physical inability to reproduce spoken human language complicates this some. He finds himself homesick for Io at times, but is nevertheless passionate about defending Earth from its various threats.
  • Appearance: Small and awkward-looking. He has a small, metal implant in the back of his neck.
  • Monster Appearance and Concept/Origin: Huge and awkward-looking, still that weird shade of green. Form originated from an experimental serum.
  • History: A guinea pig of a group of Ionian scientists on Earth, Thrik received an implant that would inject him with a serum, which the scientists hoped would grant temporary increases in strength and endurance for possible military applications. However, its effects were far more potent than intended, and Thrik was inadvertently given the ability to transform into a gigantic monster at will. With the looming menace of the Kaiju, this shocking and accidental find might be put to good use after all.
  • Do I have the Monster Island rules?: Unfortunately, no.

I'm not seeing anything too objectionable so far, but I'd prefer if Thrik could have some method of communication.

I'll have a Discussion thread up later today, and hopefully have a battle planned out by the end of the week.

Well now, what can I say to a character whose only traits are bloodthirsty and animalistic in a UN operation dedicated to ensuring as little loss of life as possible other than "no."

X is wholeheartedly rejected.
