Since as we all know, there are many people who believe change is bad, that Character Development should be outlawed, and that readers/viewers just wanna read/watch the same stories over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Thus, the Generic Plot Templates need to be formed. Here's the first two:

The Mighty Thor

  • A crisis occurs; it turns out Loki's the villain.
  • A crisis occurs; Loki's not the one responsible . . . but he's manipulating the ones who are.

See how easy it is? Now, who's next?

Embroiled in slave rebellion, I escaped crucifixion simply by declaring 'I am Vito', everyone else apparently being called 'Spartacus'.

  • Doctor Strange: Something's coming from another dimension to wreck stuff.
  • Sam And Max: The Commissioner calls, the duo drive someplace, and defeat the problem in some wacky way (okay, that one's kinda cheating)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mirage: Write a generic sci-fi story, and replace the protagonists with four humanoid reptiles.

[up](Not sure how true of comics, but true in the cartoon and movie)

  • Tony or his father ruined the business of someone else who comes back for revenge as a villain.

Also, for Spider-Man

  • Spider-Man is cloned.
  • Spider-Man is impersonated by a villain
  • Peter and MJ break up

Classic Spider-Man: Pick an animal. A villain with that theme fights Spider-Man, so that Peter is late for a date/work/school/saucy puppet show. He mopes about his terrible luck.

Batman:

  1. A crime is committed.
  2. Batman figures out that some guy we've never heard of is the culprit by using his magic computer.
  3. Alfred serves tea and commentary.
  4. Batman goes to fight the bad guy after talking with Gordon.
  5. All the villains break out of Arkham.
  6. Batman beats up the villains.
  7. The Joker laughs, reveals that he was behind it all, and explains how he and Batman are foils to each other.
  8. Batman throws all the bad guys back into Arkham and flies off into the night.
  9. Rinse and repeat.

"Oh great! Let's pile up all the useless cats and hope a tree falls on them!"

Judge Dredd:

  1. . New person comes to town, new item is invented, old character resurfaces, or a fun quirk of Mega-City One culture is featured.
  2. . It ends in a bloodbath.

[up]Yep. Bonus points if the Cursed Earth is involved, and (more recently) the Apocalypse War, Day of Chaos or both are brought up. The Dark Judges escaping seems to me to be another one, though that's arguably more applicable to the Judge Anderson strip than the main Dredd.

I liked the story where the meat wagon guy starts totaling up the number of people Dredd's killed over the years and realizes that our favorite Judge is one of the most prolific mass murderers ever. It ends in a bloodbath.
