A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

@Dark Ah yes now I remember. Finn had that odd design for him in that alternative world and to answer your question I just thought that the whole Finn's in another universe could've had potential there but...there really wasn't anything to it but it did make for a good conflict for Jake though.

"Transform and Roll out!" Optimus PrimeEh, those episodes were okay. I wasn't a huge fan of alt!Finn and I thought Jake was being a huge idiot (wasting your wish on a sandwich? Really?), but they were still entertaining.
Reaction Image RepositoryBack on the topic of MLP, I just thought of something. I wonder what role Discord will play in season 5, if he appears at all? The season 4 finale seems to have solidified him as an ally of the Mane 6, so I wonder if he'd still show up either to make "innocent" trouble (because he still probably has some things to learn about the reciprocal nature of friendship) or if he might even play kind of a Trickster Mentor role like how he helped point out the incidents that gave the Mane 6 the keys to that box by marking the journal entries. There could be the issue of his powers being TOO useful since he's a reality warper, although if he retains his generally mischievous personality he might not become too much of a Deus ex Machina because even the reformed Discord would probably think it was too easy and boring to just solve problems using his powers. Plus the finale also showed that a powerful enough villain could still neutralize him anyway, and he's also not immune to getting sick by having tatzlwurm mucus sneezed on him, so he's not necessarily omnipotent.

Thanks for bringing that up Rainbow. Brings to mind that for a series vague on power levels (and rightly so), focusing on social interactions to drive most of the plots, you know things have hit the fan when Twi needs the equivalent of 4 alicorns worth of energy to try and have a chance against Tirek.
Though that's my biggest criticism about T-Rex. He became too powerful too fast. He was a lot creepier and menacing when he was a withered husk with enough cunning to drain a few cornered ponies to regain a power base from where to conquer. When he absorbed not only two towns at least of innocent ponies, 4 alicorn princesses, and a spirit of chaos, he was so incredibly at an advantage it reduced him to a predictable boring baddie.
By contrast it's why the first Tirek stayed in the background delivering menacing threats to his lackies and having his drakonic army in focus to keep the atmosphere. It's only at the very end does he reveal himself and have a duel of power against the heroes.
Plus, there's really no beating that booming low voice and heartbeat compared with the other's hulkish portrayal.
Not saying they should have done the finale like his predecessor, just pointing out what worked and didn't work for me.
And, although I enjoyed the sheer spectacle of Twilight's brawl against Tirek, I also sincerely hope that the show doesn't try to repeat that or (Celestia forbid) top it. The entire point of the scene was to set up that The Power Of Friendship was greater than the magic of four alicorns and a chaos god. MORE action along those lines (Blow up a continent! Blow up a planet! Blow up the whole galaxy!) would either undermine that point, or would just be beating a dead horse.

@Meta: Especially RD, given that she's the most openly hostile to him.
Anyway, as for subsequent seasons, I really want to see a villain who's threat derives mainly from their intelligence and manipulation rather than due to their raw power or abilities. It would be interesting to see a more social threat. Like Meta said, attempting to top the Tirek fight in terms of raw power will only turn the series into Dragon Ball Z.

Reaction Image RepositoryAgreed. Actually Rainbow and Discod having a friendship episode would be interesting, trying to find common ground and her getting over some histility.
Also Pinkie seems to be Discord's kindred soul in terms of fun all be it different goals as Pinkie prefers to do it for others and Discord for himself, so an episode highlighting their different approaches to fun would be interesting.
Like Pinkie teaching Discord not to go too far and have some ponies open up to his presence, similar to what Nightmare Night did for Luna.

No, turning the series into DBZ would result in 20 episodes of the characters training, and another 20 episodes of the same fight.
And I agree with Dark. Tirek would have been more interesting if he had stayed the way he was at the start of the episode. As for Discord, honestly I've never been a fan of him to begin with. Some of his antics are amusing, but overall he's actually kind of annoying at times. I am interested in what kind of character development he might go through though.

"Are you really going to be this way, Miss Dash?"
"Darn right I am! Either you get a new script where something actually happens, or I'm walking!"
The producer sighs. "I hoped it wouldn't come to this, Miss Dash, but you are more replaceable than you think." He motions to the office door.
The door opens, and a gray pegasus with misaligned eyes enters. She smiles, but doesn't say a word.
Ah, the Discord discussion occurs when I'm away straightening doll hair.
Actually, the rumor mill on season 5 claims there will been an episode in which Discord gets jealous because Fluttershy invites over another guy friend over.
Apparently from Mr. De Lancie himself, but it's the internet; take it with a grain of salt.

"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkNext chapter of the Round Robin is done. Who wants to go next? Edvedd? Sereg? Applelight?
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayOr off doing her Rockterate.
Hey, I actually watched that episode. And I still didn't recognize the reference.
Didn't they do that in the Maze episode?
So like Diamond Tiara except grown up and actually threatening?
Or Avatar. Am I seriously the only one who thought of ATLA, not DBZ during those fight scenes? Of course I haven't watched much DBZ so that might be why.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play

Oposite, Finn wished the Litch out of existence.
