A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I might, though Spongebob was never one of my favorite cartoons. I remember Angry Beavers though.
Reaction Image Repository@JT: If you can find it, try Dan Vs. if you haven't already. It's hilarious.
Thanks for the help everyone. I'm going to do some more research on Chinese elements, think on it a bit, watch the MST 3 K movie and think on it some more.
Night everyone.

@Gwen: I've watched most of the first season, and yeah, it's hilarious. I'm sad that they aren't making new episodes anymore.
Reaction Image RepositoryI don't watch many shows and most of the ones I have watched aren't completely kid friendly. Maybe Adventure Time would work, but it's not one of my favorites.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayReally taken a liking to Regular Show. The humour's great and there's usually an Eldritch Abomination of some sort in the climax of each episode. The weird elements juxtaposed with funny animals and inanimate objects with personalities and interactions straight out of an co-worker office comedy is surprisingly enjoyable.
I suspect that the creators had some inkling they were getting canceled, because those last two episodes really feel like they were deliberately aiming to provide some closure, while still leaving the door open for more episodes.
@Story: I'm already caught up on AT anyway.
@Dark: I've seen a couple of episodes, but it's not really my thing.
Reaction Image RepositoryHmmm. How about Futurama? It's not aimed specifically at kids, but it's relatively tame.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayBetter not to risk it. I don't think "Death by Snu Snu" would go over well.
Reaction Image RepositoryI'll have to look it up.
Anyway, I need to get to bed. See you all tomorrow.

- two kids create something so incredible that everyone in the vicinity wants in.
- Their sister tries to bust them for reasons ranging to pettiness to envy to concern for their safety
- meanwhile a sentient/sapient platypus goes to a Mad Scientist's Obviously Evil lair to foil his harebrained schemes, often while keeping that (and his sapience) a secret from his family
- Musical songs Once an Episode
- when the kids mother comes home, their sister's attempts will inevitably end in failure.
Sounds repetitive to me. (Though I did see some specials that avert at least one of these points)
Don't get me wrong. I like the show, but I know it adheres strictly to formula

I got tired of waiting for Legend Of Korra season 3 to appear on the official website and watched the first three episodes through alternative means. Man do they completely not understand the concept of culture.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayThat's kind of the point, though. The humour is that you will know what will happen after a while, so they subvert catchphrases and jokes, throwing in continuity nods and in general the brothers' antics and friends along with the Doc's new Inators can be so different from episode to episode it still provides laughs. Plus, the songs are decent at worst and usually good to great.
@Story: How do you mean? The whole, "We're going to tech you a culture and make a new nation" thing? Because yeah that's kind of... doomed to failure. I mean it'd be one thing if it was like, "We want to teach you to control your new powers, and part of that is a doctrine of spiritual reflection. Afterwards you may return home, or you can stay with us and help rebuild the order". After all, the bending styles are taught as martial arts anyways, and martial arts training comes with a heavy dose of discipline and philosophical theory. Even when you learn them as a sport, the importance of not using them willy-nilly, and following strict guidelines is important. Airbending being what it is, a certain amount of spiritualism is implicit in the art itself. But you kinda just can't make someone develop a whole new culture overnight...
Also in terms of show recommendations, I second Code Lyoko(The first season is a bit of a slog, though. It's very episodic up until close to the end, and while the episodes themselves are good the sense of Status Quo Is God is a bit weighty Until they actually get Aileta out of the computer.
I also recommend Oban Star Racers and Wakfu... seriously, french animation is really good in general. If you can find 'em, there's also a few good Canadian cartoons out there(OR at least translated import cartoons). Ruby Gloom is good, as is Jacob Two Two(which is like, Super Canadian, so be warned there. Seriously). Fred's Head is another good show that's at least visually kid-friendly; there's a looot of parental bonus going on and stuff that they don't outright say. Like, one of the main characters best friends being all but outright stated to be a lesbian ("You're Fred's friend who never has a boyfriend and my mum will tell me why when I'm older". Seriously.)
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Yeah, the idea of getting people to spontaneously adopt a different uclture just because they got powers was absurd.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayWell, it didn't really work, so they seem to be pretty aware of how silly the idea was.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Yeah, I'm glad it turned out the way it did. Some of those were pretty funny.
Also, I was really surprised that They got to Peilei before she broke out. Genre convention dictates that they would just barely not be in time.
Of course She's almost certainly going to get broken out soon anyway, so not sure what they're planning.
Edit: It just occurred to me that the villains of the first two seasons were both adult male waterbenders with brothers. Looks like they'll be changing things up though in season 3 with the whole Fearsome Four thing.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI ducked out of Korra before Season 2 (because of all the nonsense), but the show is self-contained enough that I could jump back in without too much trouble. Season 3 is pretty good, and the pacing feels less rushed.
Gravity Falls is a winner.
