A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Today: Anime, and Tales of Ancient Internet Horror.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectYeah, Japanese is notoriously difficult to figure out for somebody who's only familiar with English grammar.
Also, Kill La Kill is getting a dub? I approve.
Reaction Image Repository\*looks up "KLK"*
It's either "Kill la Kill" or "Klink Loves Kirk".
@ Ike: I'm sorry you're surrounded with such irresponsible people.
You should just let your sister get in trouble. She's too old to need a constant babysitter. If she doesn't give a buck about her responsibilities, then why should you?
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!I hate my family. Mom is annoying, my dad and brother are assholes, and my sister is a bitch. Believe me, as soon as I have money and a better job I am out of here.
As for why I give a shit about them- because they're my family. My sister is 16 and has OCD. My brother is in college and in debt. My dad doesn't help enough and my mom works her ass off for everyone despite the stress levels slowly killing her. Someone has to help out or this family would fall apart.

http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/I tried learning Japanese in High School, but I just couldn't hack it at all. I'm not very good with Chinese either.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectWhich is what I face, and why I have to use wi-fi on my Wii, since it's the strongest, fastest processor in my house. In case you're wondering, my family is low-middle class. That's why I still use 5 yr old tech.
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceI don't envy the young children who have to learn how to write in Japanese or Chinese. Eesh...
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!I learnt a bit of formal Japanese once, but most of what I know is informal Japanese gleaned from watching too much anime
Knowing mandarin helped me pick up JPN, because Kanji is close enough to Chinese hanzi to be understandable.

The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!@King: Yikes.
@Syd: It was no picnic, believe me. I am Chinese and I suck at it.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI find it easier to emulate what a Chinese/Japanese says with the help of Subtitles to understand what i'm about to say.
If you mean "Yikes" for what it said at top, that's Syd's post.

Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceWell, I was responding to your post about the Wii actually.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project@Syd: Well, it is easier to pick that stuff up when you're younger. If you grow up learning it, I don't think it's that much worse than learning any other language.

Yeah, it sucks that your go-to computer is an outdated game console.
I said this on The TF thread:
The look on all your faces if they did... priceless.

Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceI remember when I was about to enter third grade. I was terrified because I'd now be required to learn cursive handwriting. My 8-year-old self was convinced he was doomed.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!I speak English only. I would love to learn to speak Japanese.
I hope they have Japanese classes during the fall term at my college.

I spent two years taking Spanish classes in high school. I understand it basically, if that.

"Moody Stops Bicycle Theft, Takes No Prisoners"- Harry Potter and the Natural 20I've never tried to learn or speak a foreign language. I imagine it would go like this:
Me: How'd I do?
Teacher: You just told the class, "My liver killed Angelica Pickles."
You know that would likely violate the rental contract.
What's funny is that during Kindergarten, I went to a school where it was all cursive only, but when I switched to public school for 1st grade, I had to switch to print. By the time, cursive lessons came around in 3rd grade, I barely remembered it, but that's ok because noone actually uses cursive and noone cares about it any more.
I took German classes for 5 years over Middle school - college (I quit several times), but I was never particualrly good at it, probably due to being to embarassed to attempt speaking it much.
I can watch movies in German with no subtitles and usually understand most of it, but being able to speak it is a lot harder.
Also, visual context helps when understanding a movie of course.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayThat's highly unlikely. At least in German. I suppose it might be possible in a tonal language like Chineese.
One of the nice things about German is that it's very similar to English, which makes sense, since they were related 1000 years ago.
On the other hand, German is one of the most useless languages you can learn, since all German people speak English anyway.

@Ike: Get an apartment. Have the door converted into a heavy steelframe with a military-surplus Abloy lock like those armory padlocks. Secure windows with well-concealed razor concertina wire.
