A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Yeah, I keep getting your names confused. My apologies, Sereg and Sera. xD
Also, I have a question related to comic books. What do you guys think is better- a Mass Super-Empowering Event, or individual origins for every character? And, why?

Well that was a quick ninja
The screenreader doesn't read italics at all? Weird. Sounds like a bug. Anyway, it depends on the editor, but normally you can make italics by just hitting ctrl+I.
P.S. I wonder if Chrome Vox handles bold and italics properly.
You could also just get someone to edit it for you prior to posting. Which you should be doing anyway to catch mistakes (And homophones in your case).
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayIn any case, I'd say getting an editor would help.
Anyway, I'm heading to bed.
Depends on what you're going for.
I looked it up and they say that Chrome Vox doesn't have any way to query the current text style but does announce when it changes. I'm surprised.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI would use a Mass Super-Empowering Event if you're going for a team of superheroes. Individual origins might strain suspension of disbelief (I mean, try to describe the Justice League or the Avengers by only using each character's backstory and abilities and you'll see what I mean).
If what you want is for the characters to stand on their own for a bit before they team up, then I'd use individual origins. It helps to characterize each member of the lineup if they each have a unique backstory, and suspension of disbelief isn't strained as much if the audience has already suspended it for the individual characters.

Well, if I'm going to do this it'll definitely be a team book. On the other hand, in-universe several of the characters would probably have been active on their own before joining the team, and of course everyone has their own backstory and motivations.
My current idea for the origin is a bit of a mix. Some event (either people get Touched by Vorlons or a portal to another dimension opens) occurs, and a small percent of humanity mutates and they gain powers. Afterward, some of the super-genius mutants develop alternate ways of getting powers, such as super advanced gadgets or a Super Serum. How does that sound?

http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/No prob. And really, so long as you're not introducing them all at once saying, "And this one can shoot fire from his eyes because he was blessed by a fire spirit when he was a kid, and this one's a super-scientist that can run really fast after getting shot by a beam of pure speed, and this one's a martial artist that can fly because he went up a mountain 200 years ago and became enlightened, etc." then you should be good.

You can go for the best of both worlds, like DC does - several people have the potential to gain powers, but different situations that trigger them. Or gaining powers from things associated with the original event.
For example: a mad scientist creates a metagene-esque chemical and releases it into the water main. Thousands of humans are exposed to it, but the genes remain latent until triggered appropriately.
As a result: A criminal psychologist is seeing his own (normal)psychiatrist in order to cope with the stress of being too empathetic to very bad people. His psychiatrist recommends a certain drug to help relax and get his mind off things. The chemicals in the drug, normally harmless, trigger the gene and give the criminal psychologist the ability to sense and manipulate emotional energy into a variety of effects.
A scientist ingests the meta-chemical before taking a research trip to the south pole. The extreme cold triggers the chemical, giving him the power to lower temperatures and survive extreme cold. Upon return to civilization, his own unknowingly-generated cold unlocks his brothers chemical, allowing the brother to raise temperature and survive extreme heat.
A weapons engineer has his chemical triggered such that he becomes a genius, but also completely mad. He kidnaps a citizen and turns him into a cyborg with the ability to remotely access and summon a variety of weapons for any situation.
So, there we go. A variety of powers and origins, all from a single Mass Empowering Event.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.so apparently there's a "meltavia" tag.
which is for drawings of Octavia melting.
and unsurprisingly, most of the images currently tagged as such are from japan.
XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!I think it'll be a bit tidier than that. Most of the characters will just be mutants.
Kegi- eh, personally I'm not a fan of the Meta Origin. I do appreciate the suggestion though.

XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!Same reason the majority of the rest of the fandom seems to be fixated on her too?
