A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Have some Goth Ponies.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!Not just Flash bashing. Sombra bashing too.
It does seem like a huge waste that the character who gets the most focus in an evil alternate universe is the one who got the least amount of characterization in the main series. He's practically an OC at that point. I want some alt!Chrysalis or something dang it.
I had no idea the current comic arc was so controversial.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!I was about to suggest Puella Magi Madoka Magica, but then I remembered the subtitle issue
Ah, the Amber Spyglass dilemma
Ninja'd. That's what I was thinking!
Besides ninja pones(I know what i'm drawing next!) what's new?
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justice@Sereg: Pointing out legitimate flaws isn't bashing. There were some serious problems with how the comic portrayed Celestia's relationship, mainly that it forced her to act extremely irresponsibly and selfishly in order for the plot to work. They could've have easily made it so that she wasn't aware of the damage, and it would've been fine, but they showed her making a conscious decision to risk the safety of the dimension for the sake spending time with Sombra, which is completely at odds with how she's portrayed pretty much everywhere else in canon.

Reaction Image RepositoryCelestia's young and does things that are selfish and foolish. I don't see how that's a problem.
I don't personally see much of a problem with it. I think it adds depth to her character by showing vulnerabilities and failings.

The problem is that that's not how the arc plays it. If it treated it as "she was young and impulsive but has matured out of it" it wouldn't be too bad. The problem is that the current-time part of the arc shows her deliberately rebuilding the link between dimensions and going through again despite being fully aware of the risks. It shows that she hasn't matured in that fashion. That's why I think it was mishandled. It shows the current Celestia acting impulsive and selfish, even though the show generally shows modern-day Celestia being more mature than that. They stripped away a bunch of development to make the plot work. In short, she isn't young for a good chunk of the story.

Reaction Image Repository@ Purple: Mulia Mild had to put up an innocent front because Pinkie was about to expose her true identity: Mulian, master ninja and the baddest of bad asses!
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!You do know the responsibilities of a princess of any land, right?

She hasn't offered any alternate explanation yet, and it would have be a really good one to feel in-character.

You could make a point that the only reason she found it so hard to leave him is that he was an emotional crutch after having banish Luna, but I don't think that idea is ever brought up.

Reaction Image RepositoryAs far as alternate Mane 6 goes, it occured to me that Fluttershy could be like N except with animals instead of pokemon.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play

One time on Sunday I planned to meet an artist whom I admired for years and it was the one time she was in town before she moved halfway across the country. I slept in, watched TV, the time passed, and had this inkling feeling that I was forgetting something. -___-
Sundays. ...sometimes....
