A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

@JT: I know. Kind of a fairy tale/vaguely middle eastern feel to them.

I'm not a Dreamworks guy, but I heard that was all right.

I've heard it's surprisingly good. Because they took a popular character and gave him a different supporting cast and plot to stay fresh.

That's what I've heard from critics, haven't seen it.

@Marcen It's awesome I just wish they came up with that earlier. Just a shame the company's going through some rough times thanks to the box office revenue.

I consider Dreamworks to be that bright kid in school who has a ton of potential and could do so well if he just applied himself more.

They have stuff like Dragons and Kung Fu Panda that shows that they CAN make good, resonant stories... and then there's everything else. Say what you will about the state of modern Pixar, but their track record kind of speaks for itself.

@Ed So, you're a Disney guy.

I haven't seen the movie either.

@Star Damn box office revenue.

Then there's the Ten Commandments, which is full of Nightmare Fuel and What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?

The music and animation are legit good though.

@Marcen Yeah apparently they've been losing money from the box office because of well money issues for a start.

@dark: The Prince of Egypt, you mean?

And that was more in the days when they still made 2D stuff. Shrek sort of turned them into the company we put up with nowadays.

I found Puss to be cute, silly and perhaps a bit deeper than expected.

@marcen: In my analogy, Pixar is that one kid who gets As in every class, but he's been having some family issues, and he he's slipping a bit. But you can tell he's still a bright kid and could get back to being great again once he pulls through this rough patch.

@Star Poor guys. Hope they can get out of it ok.

@King -groans loudly-

@Ed Sometimes, it's not about the money. Just do what ya want, not for the money. I hope they learn that and make better stories in the future.

Yeah, that one. No idea why I get those two confused. I mean, I do, but....

Eh I didn't much like it. Mostly for personal reasons. I can respect it, though.

And they have a few original ideas coming up too. And really, except for Cars, their recent output hasn't been bad necessarily, just maybe not as good as they could have been.

I'll be the lone one to say it, but I don't think Frozen's that amazing.

Good? Certainly. The revival of Disney? Not even close to that level.

Personally I don't think Disney needs reviving, it's just in a rough patch.

I don't hate it. It's perfectly alright. Not great, not bad.

I just didn't see much reason why it's hyped so much.

It's certainly not devoid of flaws.

Frozen was good, but I certainly wouldn't call it one of the best Disney films.
