A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

AU stories are usually interesting. It's fun to imagine how things could have turned out, in our universe or in a fictional one we're fond of. That's why most of my fan fics are AU fics.
Dark- I'm not sure I understand your statement about Terra.

Reminds me of how much the theme from SMB2 sounds like ragtime.

After playing a bit more of the new Mario Kart, I've come to the conclusion that even with the horn, it's actually harder to hold on to first place than it used to be. They changed the item mechanics so that you can only hold one at a time, so if you have an item shield, you're going to have to wait until it's used up to get another one. Between that and the fact that one of the new items (a coin) is something you'll be getting fairly often, yet is completely useless when you're doing well, and it means that you're much more open to random red shell attacks.
According to Wikipedia, the creator of the character's comments on her intended role include the phrase "Wow, this girl is a slut!"
That... is not a good sign. Not one bit.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. She was a sociopathic mutant teenager who was in a relationship with a 30-someodd year old man. She wasn't a misunderstood girl being manipulated, like the TV show version. She was one of the villains, plain and simple. And yes, there were a lot of unfortunate implications.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/... She's a villain because she's a sociopath that wants to murder the titans because she can. It has nothing to do with her sleeping with anyone.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/@Ike: And it was totally possible to make that happen without having her sleep with someone twice her age.
She was deliberately designed to be 'slutty', because it would be shocking. The revelation of her villainy, from what I can tell, was tied directly to a show of sexuality. That's pretty fucking bad.
I kind of doubt the slut-shaming was deliberate, but it still reads as the writer equating female sexuality as shocking, which has really Unfortunate Implications. They could have built up and subverted an expectation in any other way, but they chose this one, and it's just... well, weird. Especially since it drags down another character into being a paedophile.

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Okay, point taken.
My apologies if it seemed like I was defending what happened, because that is not the case. I just didn't see the connection between her sexuality and her villainy so I reacted against the slut shaming label.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/Yeah, fair enough. I feel like that's always a pretty fuzzy thing to call, at least when it isn't outright "Sex is evil". It's hard to tell when it's deliberate, when it's just thoughtlessness, and when it's just our opinions reacting to something.
Doesn't help that half the reason it's such an issue is that the idea is so ingrained in us culturally that it can be hard to notice because we just accept it.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.@Kegisak: The other issue is that if I remember right, the guy who she's with never gets blamed for his part of the relationship; they treated it like it was purely her issue for being willing to put while never acknowledging that he took advantage of it.
Reaction Image RepositoryHey, I'm fully aware of how Fi M can be enjoyed by the older demographic, but I'm kinda having a hard time figuring out the best way to introduce the show to my mom.
Anybody know a good episode to introduce the series to non-viewers like your parents?

Depends on what kinds of stuff she likes. Personally I'd go with the earlier episodes, mainly because they're more standalone. "Bridle Gossip", "Dragonshy", and "Applebuck Season" have all gone over well when I use them to introduce the show to people. They're good demonstrations of the show's cast and humor without leaning too heavily on "girly" stuff. The Two-parter is a good introduction to the show, but I don't think it's one of the best episodes.
Well, I tried to show my mom "The Ticket Master" and…
She said that it was beyond silly, she'd rather watch Sponge Bob (and she hates Sponge Bob), and she can't see how I could find any enjoyment from it. Yeah.
Oh well. Can't say I didn't try.
At least there's always Arrow.
ticket master is about the worst possible episode you could have chosen, imo.

I meant that Id want to go to them.
