A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

and you simply could never program enough objects for Green Lantern to make it feel good enough.
I was going to agree with you here until I thought of Scribblenauts.
Also, given what I've seen of the way WW's been handled in some of DC's properties (thank you, Linkara), I find it hard to believe that concern for a game treating her with enough respect is what's holding them back.
As I understand it, the closest anyone's gotten to a "good" Superman game is Superman Returns, and even then it was more "Well, this doesn't suck as bad as 64."
Unless you count games that are about DC as a whole, like DC Universe Online or Injustice, which I don't. They're good games, but they're not Superman games.

Well, in DC case it's more a matter of "People can't relate to/aren't ready for/we can't overtly sexualize for teenaged boys as easily a female main character."
I just mean that as a fan of Wonder Woman I'd be concerned about a game treating her well. And this is, apparently, bearing in mind I got into comics after DC started getting fucky with stuff in the New 52. I still like the Wonder Woman stuff coming out now(Well, dunno how I feel about Wonder Woman and Superman in their couple comic.). And Batgirl. Gail Simone, if noone else, is a good writer for female characters at DC.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. How would you even balance a Superman game? Unless all the mooks have kryptonite, everything except the bosses would be pretty one sided. I suppose they could switch things up a bit and have the focus be on stopping the bad guys without letting them cause any collateral damage. So, you know, the opposite of Man of Steel.
that's how the Superman Returns video game handled it. instead of Supes, the city of Metropolis had a health bar, and the mission was failed if the area got too badly destroyed.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.Depends on the scale you're working, I think. Superman tends to be more interesting on a large scale, where the mooks can be like, superpowered robots who can theoretically slug him hard enough to cause damage to the itty bits of his brain.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.IMO, part of the appeal of Superman is that outside of the guys that can either outsmart him (Lex) or can hit him hard enough to actually threaten him (Darkseid, Doomsday), he doesn't really need to be threatened by the mooks he takes down so long as he looks freaking awesome doing so. So make the regular fights timed/scored rather than give everyone and their mother kryptonite/magic/red sun radiation, and I think it should be good.

Ooh, this might be interesting: make a Superman game about holding back. We all know Superman doesn't kill, and we all know he's strong enough to punch a guy's head off, so make the mechanics all about finesse and control when using his powers so you don't just murder every mook you hit, then add a reputation meter. The more enemies you kill, the more the citizens fear you. This could just lead to losing the game, or it could open up a whole other game where you end up playing as a tyrant ruling over humankind. In other words, make the game all about how hard it is not to slip to the dark side when you have all the power in the world.

Interesting, but it'd pretty much have to be an original property. I doubt a real Superman game would allow you to go all Paragon/Renegade on everything.

Yeah, I don't think they'd let you go around using Superman to kill everything.
Reaction Image RepositoryI don't know, think of all the times tyrant!Superman has been a thing in the DCU (granted, mostly in alternate universes). The Justice Lords episodes of the early seasons of Justice League immediately come to mind. Plus, I meant to suggest that becoming a tyrant would be portrayed as a bad thing in the game, so it would still be the bad ending.
The thing is, tyrant!Superman is never really anything more than a glimpse at what the "true" (i.e. main) Superman would be like if he wasn't so upstanding. It's a way for them to go, "And to your left, you see a 'verse where Supes is evil. Aren't you glad that universe isn't this one?"
If you're playing a Superman game that allows you to be evil, then you're not really playing a Superman game, you're playing a "Superman in that one AU where he turned to the dark side" game.
I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but realistically the only way evil!Supes is going to be in a Superman video game is as an antagonist to a heroic Superman.

This, basically. The issue isn't that they don't like Evil!Superman, it's that you never get an evil!Superman unless it's as a counterpoint to a good one. If they would ever release a game where you got to be evil, they'd have another good Superman show up to defeat you.
Teeth: Heh, maybe that could be the evil ending, then?

I never really followed comics, so most of my knowledge of Superman comes from the movies and Superman The Animated Series.
