A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

Three's a Crowd had the issue of trying to be both a Twilight and Cadance episode and a Discord episode at the same time. Both of those would be good, because Cadance's relationship with Twilight needs development, and because a "Twilight dealing with Discord" episode would've helped set up the finale. Thing is, doing them both at once didn't really turn out well because the two plotlines kept stepping on each others' toes. That said, I found the episode mostly enjoyable. Discord's trolling of the ponies at the beginning was great, his song was epic, and the Tatzlwurm fight was cool. TL;DR good ideas but they were too crammed.

Yeah, pretty much this. I think this episode would have worked had they either sidestepped the scene where Discord gets rid of the (re)Mane(ing)4, or they made the whole episode about the them keeping Discord out of Twilight's hair.
Really, going back to my point about a Celestia episode, I think I'd like to see one where Discord interacts with Celestia and possibly Luna. Great potential for backstory and character development right there, considering their history.
"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkI've always wanted an origin story for the two sisters. Or even a creation myth for Equestria.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI doubt we're going to get an episode that really focuses on them, because at least one of the mane six has to be involved with every episode. More episodes with the princesses in general would be nice though.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/A princess origin story could save them the trouble of having to make a new threat for the Mane 6 to fight in the season opener. Can't go back to that well too soon.

I know they're releasing that book written by Amy Keaton Rogers that has some stories with the sisters in it. ...which I should probably order...
But a solid episode about one or both would be preferable.

"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkI think Discord's interaction with Twi in "Three's a Crowd" was necessary for his redemption in the finale to really work. His petty antagonism towards Twi really come across like he's got some kind of platonic Foe Yay for her. And that went a long way towards helping explain his change of heart in response to Twi insisting that he's a friend.
I don't know if any of you watch The Mysterious Mr Enter's videos or not, but if you do, let's just say that my respect towards him has increased due to his review of the S4 Finale.

@gwen: I think it's based on the journal of the two sisters, yeah.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project@Meta: Yeah, I just think it would've helped if the episode had been about that rather than trying to include both Discord trolling and Twilight and Cadance spending time together. The bit about Twilight's relationship with Discord came across as sort of an afterthought.
@Gwen: See, I think a fun way of handling it would've been to do dual episodes like they did with "Just for Sidekicks" and "Games Ponies Play". One side showing Twilight and Cadance hanging out, and one showing Discord attempting to bother them while the rest of the cast just barely keeps him in check.
That said, Meta is right that the moments between Twilight and Discord helped set up the finale, because it establishes that Discord is at least kinda branching out from being just Fluttershy's friend to attempting to interact with the other ponies.
Reaction Image Repository@marston Big fan of Enter's work,so I ought of check that out.
Honestly I would if we coiuld get some episodes giving more background to characters,or at least episodes that don't have to focus on the mane 7 or the cmc and instead focus on other characters.
My Tumblr "If theirs one thing I'm good at, it's blowing" Jesse Cox 2013I do hope that Discord's development towards being less dickish sticks.
Not that he can't be fun, but he needs to learn how not to hurt or inconvenience others with his antics.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectDiscord has some kind of thing for Twilight that even he doesn't really understand. And for the most part he only expressed it by antagonizing her. In "Return of Harmony", he singled Twi out by not using mind control magic on her and her alone. In "Princess Twilight Sparkle" he sarcastically praises Twi for not going into the Everfree with the other five ponies. And of course, he fakes sickness to get on Twi's nerves and claims afterwards that it was a Secret Test Of Friendship all along.
@ Dark, no it's not. It's the Journal of the Two Sisters. The one Twilight found in Castle-mania that inspired them to keep their own journal.
And yeah His Finale review was just so damn GREAT, and really, everyone should watch it. Not just for his look at the episode itself, but some really great bits bout the whole 'analyzing/reviewing' thing in general and why so many people fail. Without being an asshole about it.. well to much. Just making some really great points about what you shouldn't do that many people need to learn. it's worth the watch just for that bit.
@Dark: Yes, I am excited about the new Sailor Moon anime and the re-dub, especially because they’re finally going to do a real, legal US release of Sailorstars, my favorite Sailor Moon season!
@Big Macintosh: To "have a crush" on somepony is slang for "to be in love." It doesn't mean that anypony wants to literally crush you. Or is this a case where whoever is chasing you is literally trying to crush you with their overeager affection?
@JT & Meta: I can kinda see that, but I just don't think it came across very well. At the end of the episode, I feel like Twilight didn't care for Discord any more than before, and Discord didn't take anything to heart from his adventure. I dunno.
But I can see what Meta means about Discord's interest in Twi. I wonder if he subconsciously realizes he's in the same boat she was not too long ago.
Oh! S5 plot line! As "punishment" for his betrayal, Discord becomes Twilight's student of friendship. Eh? Eh?!
Yeah, see this is why I shouldn't write for the show.
@Seraph: It's got the friendship lessons from the Mane6 as well, so sayeth the Amazon description.

"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkI think it's a combo of that, and the fact that Twilight is the one who basically defeated him, so even though he's officially reformed, he still probably harbors a bit of resentment that she didn't fall for his mind games.
That and he has a thing for Celestia, and thinks that by helping her student he'll get brownie points.
Reaction Image RepositoryDiscord wants to find out how Purple Smart ticks. For Science!, of course.

"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkIt was also Discord kind of rubbing it in her face that even though she calls him a 'friend' she doesn't treat him like one at all. Yeah he's being a dick. But to be fair, the other Mane 6 aren't really giving him a chance either still. So why should he act nice to them, if all they do is pay lip service to being his 'friend' while clearly not able to stand him.
It planted that little seed of having to confront that Twilight.
I think perhaps one of Discord's flaws is that he doesn't realize that trust takes time to develop. I don't know if he picked this up from Fluttershy, since she herself was quick to trust him when they were still trying to reform him. And he was way too quick to trust Tirek in the finale. We all know how well that turned out.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...

To each their own.I liked it.I found Discord Hilarious. My only gripe is the whole focus of the reason why the other 5 wouldn't be in the episode and the lack of cadence.
